Take a good long look at this image and see if you can spot the problem…

Yes indeed, Chrono Ranger has only one round left to save himself from the icy jaws of death! Can he manage it?

Well, no, not really.

Argent had enough healing to get CR above 0 briefly, but only long enough for him to face an impossible dilemma. With Hunter and Hunted in play, a single point of damage from Failed Hero Infinitor would cause Jim to hit himself for 4 damage minimum, assuming one Bounty in play. But without that one Bounty, the Atlantean Throne Room meant that Neuro-Toxin Dart Thrower couldn’t get through, in order to reduce Infinitor’s innate damage enough to protect everyone else from it (nemesis damage to Cap was prevented by the Cosmic Crest). I settled for trying to use The Ultimate Target to gain a power and destroy Hunter and Hunted, but thanks to the Throne Room and the Dart, the only target in play which could actually take damage was CR himself, and with only 2 HP, there was no way for him to take only 1 damage.

So, my first app game to use Hero Infinitor ends in victory for the heroes…all but one of them. (Well, two if you count Nigel himself.). This is actually the first time I’ve ever seen him flip; I’ve previously considered HI as possibly the game’s single easiest villain, since the heroes just have to knock all the Manifestations down to 1 and then hope he plays Whispers of Oblivion, which is an instant win in that situation. But this time I neglected to protect him at all, and while the Reapers usually just chewed up a Construct every turn, I made the mistake of playing a Construct Cataclysm to set up for the win, not having mathed out the attacks of existing constructs to realize that the last Hellion would turn Nigel into Reaper chow.

Oh well, at least now I’ve experienced just what the “Overcome by Manifestations” side of him does (and what it looks like by default, since I’ve previously only seen the promo version). Not a huge fan overall, as he rivals Spite for how boring the fight is (but is far less frustrating, without the armor and the “unplaying” of cards), but in this case a well-timed Oppressive Smog made it a good bit more manageable. Two rounds of Thorathian Monolith bought me the time to set Argent up the rest of the way, and with every Mannie only healing him for 2 instead of 4, CC and SS were able to make pretty short work of him.
