Challenge Iron Legacy vs Chrono Ranger, F5 Bunker, F5 Tachyon, F5 Absolute Zero and Young Legacy in the Block.

Well, this should be ‘fun’.

I so wasn’t expecting a mint there, but that was surprisingly easy (not a complaint, obviously - there’s something staggeringly satisfying about kicking IL’s ass!)

Bounties helped a lot, but everyone played their part really well.

I lost the first one - as you have to discard 3 cards from everyone’s starting hand I think what you keep is probably key... I finally managed to get stable against him, but it was too late to win (Young Legacy immune to melee damage and environment damage but alone and unable to significantly hurt Iron Legacy while he healed 10 per turn)...

Challenge Iron Legacy is real tough as the main way I beat him is to crush enough of his ongoing to have a chance...

Mint with everyone still standing (at between 12 and 4 HP) after a lightning fast beatdown with Legacy going down in Bunker's turn 3. I'd like to thank the Masada, Chrono Ranger's damage increasing bounties, two absolutely inexpendable hypersonic assaults and an incredibly well-timed Fueled Freeze for this very surprising victory!

Fine. As in, “Fine, be that way.”

Lost game one when Iron Legacy wiped everyone but his daughter out on turn 2. She couldn’t really do anything to him, but could hold out due to Next Evolution immunity to melee. So the game dragged out until he drew enough projectile damage.

Lost game two when I simply didn’t do enough damage, and lost Chrono Ranger to Hunter and Hunted boosted Demoralization. Moral: don’t play Hunter and Hunted, even though this is a damage race. Chrono Ranger’s bounties are required to bring the damage up to the point where you can overcome Armored Fortitude, and once he’s down, the game is lost.

Won game 3 during round 2. Basically, I didn’t play On Board Installation on Absolute Zero turn 1, because I knew Legacy would blow it up on his turn 2, and he drew a Fueled Freeze. On turn 2 Bunker’s power lets Tachyon play Blinding Speed to get rid of Armored Fortitude, and a turn 2 Fueled Freeze on Absolute Zero’s part brings Iron Legacy down to 1 HP.

Also, Tachyon’s Blitz power is a lot more effective if Armored Fortitude is out of the way, and boosted by By Any Means. While the Fueled Freeze was the near-finisher, Tachyon doing 4 x 3 = 12 points of damage on round 2 had a lot to do with it as well.

A harrowing Mint, only lost Tachyon. With Chrono-Ranger in the lead, though, I knew I had nothing to worry about. He's just the best at taking down Iron Legacy, especially when he's got F5 Bunker backing him up. Though Absolute Zero probably did the most actual damage...

Well, that first round was a whole lot of F that S.

Second attempt: AZ went down to his own Self-damage, and, with some clever manipulation of HP, I managed to get IL and F5T to 3 hp.

And the Environment finished him off.

Mint. I went in prepared for a really brutal fight, and the three card discard at the start was brutal, but I managed to win on legacy's third or fourth turn without flipping IL or losing any heroes.

Mint but very close, with Tachyon and AZ down, Bunker and CR at 2, and Legacy at 6.

Couple of misplays like trying to deal more than 5 damage to him with Superhuman Redirection out hurt, but I sqeaked by anyway, mostly through CR's damage boosts, AZ's mass ongoing destruction, and Tachyon's Hypersonic assaults keeping him under control for 2 rounds in a row. Had Next Evolution out all game but actually never used it, prefering to just deal damage. Bunker helped with card plays more than anything else, AZ got 2x Impales and a Cold Snap going, Tachyon sacrificed herself keeping him down, Legacy and CR did damage, and a lot of it.

Near Mint with no one down. Double passing with Absolute Zero turn one and playing Young Legacy’s card draw meant that Bunker’s power could play the Fueled Freeze Turn 2, and with both of Chrono Ranger’s damage bounties out this was enough for Tacyhon, Absolute Zero and Young Legacy to finish him off at the end of the second round.

Mint, but I wasn’t expecting it; he was whooping on me for the first half of the fight, but then all of a sudden… I won.

It's actually super easy.  Sudden Contract is the third card down Chrono-Ranger's deck, so if he plays Eye on the Prize, Bunker can play it for him immediately.  Tachyon starts off with a Hypersonic Assault and draws a second one immediately, so she can shut down IL's damage for his second and third turn (if he even lasts that long).  All those discards also help feed Tachyon's Blitz; I managed to get Blinding Speed on top of her deck in round 2, so Bunker played that for her, letting her do 3 damage 4 times, and then I won with the Impale that I'd had AZ dig for.  Normally I focus on destroying IL's ongoings, but you don't have to here--only one of them really makes any difference, and even it just delays the inevitable.

I tried to be super careful to eke out all the damage I needed before IL got to deal damage again, but there's a lot of wiggle room--AZ and Young Legacy only got one turn each and IL was still looking at being unable to do damage on his next turn.

I stupidly forgot about Tachyon’s nemesis bonus on my first play, so dumped Hypersonic at first, thinking I’d never get past his DR.  Fixed that and a couple of other mistakes to get a fairly easy Near Mint.

Yeah, I made the same assumption my first game, that Tachyon couldn’t hurt Iron Legacy with Hypersonic Assault because of Armored Fortitude. I usually have trouble tracking who gets a nemesis bonus against who, and rely on the damage estimate to remind me.

Mint on Absolute Zero's second turn. Never had ongoing destruction in hand, didn't need any. FV Tachyon is a great way to plink IL down even in a quick game; AZ getting Isothermic Transducer out and drawing into Frost-Bound Drain helped as well; Bunker's base power helped CR play two cards and his sacrificial equipment saved the Transducer; CR got out two bounties and did tons of plink damage; Legacy played Bolster Allies and used her base power once.

Mint

Not as bad as I thought it would be, although that brutal opening from Iron Legacy had me sweating. Kept Hypersonic Assault for Tachyon knowing that was the only card that might buy enough time to do something. Getting By Any Means was icing on the cake. Second Hypersonic added chocolate sprinkles! Absolute Zero went for Isothermic Transducer and Impale on Round 1, and again in round 2 after Mr. Parsons blew stuff up, later adding Focused Apertures to further add to the icy fun. Felicia punched and eye lasered at every opportunity.

Basically a damage race that the heroes won on Felicias third turn. Maybe the first time Ive beaten IL while only taking out one of his ongoings, taking out Armored Fortitude on Tachyons third turn.

Mint.

Similar to others. Freaked out when nearly all cards discarded right away and half of all heroes HP taken away before they could act.... but then Hypersonic Assault. ‘Nuff said.

Game ended on Absolute Zero’s incap turn when he made Iron Legacy freeze himself, triggering Chrono-Ranger’s Masadah use with Ultimate Target for the irreducible 4 damage win.

Whew.

Chrono Ranger 9HP, Bunker 8HP, Tachyon 4HP, Absolute Zero 0HP and Young Legacy 11HP.
