Weekly One-Shot #128 Cuts Like A Blade

So we have a Variant heavy week this week

Vanilla Baron Blade vs Visionary Unleashed, Setting Sun Ra, EXTREEEEEEME Haka, EXTREEEEEEME Fanatic, EXTREEEEEEME Tempest in insula primalis. 

Was a very fun fight. There are some probably horrible misplays I made but making it so the Barron had to play the same card 3 times was fun. Also skipping Haka's turn whilst ground point and the volcanic eruption was out was a great bit of amusement to me. 

Mint with everyone in low 20's high teens. 

Easy mint. There is a Volcano and Ra. Burning ensues.

Really easy mint. I guess they heard that I screwed up the easy Voss in Egypt challenge, so they lowered the difficulty another notch.

Didn’t do anything clever, didn’t use Into the Stratosphere even once.

Visionary put Twist the Aether on Ra since he was consistently doing damage, though in retrospect it would have been smarter to put it on Visionary herself, since this variant does damage pretty much every turn. Normally I treat Twist the Aether as a defensive card, but doing damage to Blade on his front side is a much higher priority than blunting his occasional attacks.

I left the Obsidian Field up for a long time just because of the damage race on Blade’s front side.

I used Wrest the Mind in the canonical fashion - on the second Blade Battalion to come out, so it was doing 6 points of damage a turn to whoever I wanted (+1 damage for Obsidian Field).

I made a point of leaving the Blade Battalions alive while Blade was on his front side, just to avoid the chance of Blade’s discard pile growing, but I flipped him so fast it turned out to be unimportant.

Haka was the only hero to get seriously hurt because he kept stepping in front of damage. At one point he was down to 1 HP. Unusually for Haka, he never did any damage himself, since I drew no damaging cards.

Mint.

Played fast and reckless -- damage flying all over the place. Baron Blade bit the dust pretty quick.

Saw the Volcano, but Tempest ended the game before it erupted.

Visionary 13HP, Ra 16HP, Haka 15HP, Fanatic 3HP, Tempest 17HP. Fanatic was at 3 because she used an Obsidian Field-boosted Divine Sacrifice (hitting Blade all three times, thanks to her base power) and on the next turn, Blade did a Slash and Burn, which hit Fanatic with both instances of damage.

Easiest one-shot in a long time. Fun getting to unload Visionary and Ra on Blade, though. :)

That happened to me too

Easy mint, with Ra "Doing the most damage" via Flesh of the Sun God and watching the pretty volcano go off over and over. Lowest was Fanatic because of what happened to Pete at 10 hp, everyone else was closer to 20.

Easy mint, volcanic eruption knocked Blade down to a few HPs and a mind-controlled T-Rex ended it!

My mind-controlled T-Rex never got to hit Blade because I knocked Blade down first. The T-Rex wanted to, of course.

You people playing with volcanoes must have used Ra’s base power less than I did. I never saw Flesh of the Sun God, presumably because his base power threw the card away. I don’t tend to track exactly which cards the power is eating. Since I couldn’t make my team immune, Tempest flooded the volcano.

I never saw Flesh of the Sun God either - might be a reshuffle thing based on whether one leads with Summon Staff or not.

Regardless, by the time the Volcano got to do anything (it skipped a round of damage thanks to Ground Pound), Blade was already dead. Primordial Plant Life did more damage to me than anything else did.

I was paying attention to what cards Ra's base power got rid of and Flesh of the Sun God was never one of them, but I never drew it either.  I played Summon Staff first.  It didn't really matter though, since the game was over the first time the volcano erupted (I could have ended it on Tempest's turn, but decided to give the Volcano the honor with Blade at 1 hp).

Nothing too tricky card play wise and I even made a HUGE misplay that pretty much took Fanatic out of commission for a turn (targeted Fanatic with Divine Sacrifice thinking that I’d used her base power on Blade last turn when I had in fact used it on the Mobile Defense Platform before it was destroyed - therefore, not only could I not redirect any of the damage, all of Fanatic’s damage would have redirected to her, so I couldn’t use her base power either...)

No one in any real danger.

It seems to me that Summon Staff is the smart first-turn play for Ra. I’m assuming that the players who got Flesh of the Sun God may have played Summon Staff as well - but did things slightly differently with the earlier heroes, which would change the shuffle.

I went hyper-aggressive and won in round 4, despite drawing very little damage for Haka or Tempest. Twist the Ether went on Fanatic because I knew she was about to do 4 instances of damage in one turn. Tempest actually double-skipped twice: once because he had nothing but Into the Stratospheres and Flash Flood in his hand and once just to let the volcano win. Haka went down in round 3 saving Ra from himself, but everyone else was very healthy, even Fanatic.
