Here it is! The last variant of Fall of the Variants!

Best of luck, everyone!

Tried Ra/Fanatic/Tachyon/Tempest in Tomb of Anubis. Made sure to destroy Anubis and all Ennead. Ra didn't destroy any of them himself. Ra played each Ongoing and had each one destroyed. Staff was in play when he was incapacitated. Fanatic was the sole survivor. No dice.

Figured all ten of them + Anubis had to be destroyed per the ARG + Fanatic being there made sense.

I tried more or less the same thing and failed.  Tried to get Ra to destroy Anubis and the Ennead himself, but he went down when three of them were left.  He never played the Staff.

I'll try cheesing it in future attempts... The Ennead basically does nothing when it can't play cards, so stunts that involve recycling Take Down give you free wins.  You can pull it off with two Take Downs and a couple of "put a card from your trash back on top of your deck" cards, but that can take some time.  The easiest way is to take Freedom Six Bunker, put him after Legacy in the turn order, and just straight up murder him.  Then all you have to deal with is the environment, and fortunately, Freedom Five Legacy works perfectly for that.

I did one where Ra took out 6 of them at once, committed suicide, and Fanatic finished off the last one. Did not succeed.

Such a pain; Drawn to the Flame, while DEVASTATINGLY effective against the Ennead (especially with Legacy!) Makes the game lag REALLY HARD. Like, it took a minute and a half just to go through all of them, while mashing the “speed up” button.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one who suffers the Drawn to the Flame lag; it happens with Repli-Blade in Biomancer's deck as well. I keep meaning to file a bug report but then forgetting to get around to it. X3

Tried some baselines. It's definitely not just having Ra deal lots of area-effect damage vs. the Ennead, in the Tomb of Anubis. I tried to have him finish every member of the Ennead himself, but the environment took out Osiris.

Aside from the Ennead, wondering what else could be done for 'first successful strike against Oblivaeon.'

Well since from the letters page, setting sun ra appeared once he recruited Anubis before going to the enead and getting them all to follow him. So it was SS Ra that fought oblivaeon. Maybe we need to defeat all the enead, and Anubis must be in play/cannot be destroyed by Ra/something on those lines.

I can say that it's not "have both relics in ra of two horizon's play area, kill at least three members of the enead in the same round, have anubis deal the last damage to the last member of the enead."

On a similar note, is it possible that Ra needs to go down to self damage in some part? maybe self fire damage? Just looking at his ability "blaze of glory."

The bio on the wiki indicates that he travelled to the Tomb of Anubis, and the place where the Ennead had started to reassemble.

Is it possible you need to play a game with Ra at Temple of Anubis first and then another against the Ennead somewhere else?

I think that's a good call. Maybe fight a game in ToA first, Ra gaining all the relics and defeating(or possibly never getting hit by) Anubis, then play another game where he defeats the Ennead. Not sure if the second game should also take place in ToA or not...

Edit: Spelling

Had Ra personally incap all members of the Ennead, destroy Anubis twice (once using the Rod of Anubis), but Anubis was in play at the end and the Rod of Anubis was in Ra's play area.  No unlock.  This was following the game I described previously, in which Ra destroyed Anubis and incapped most of the Ennead before going down himself.

In the ARG Ra was alive just long enough to have words with Fanatic before he died. Gonna guess that Fanatic can’t be on the team because she arrived after and that Ra must be near death, maybe even as low as 1 hp.

Course it could be something as silly as Ra deals all the damage and ibcaps everyone including himself.

Following up on the Bunker unlock recently with the different types of damage, etc., and Ra/Anubis being smarter about the later fights, going through and taking them all out one by one --

I made an effort to have Ra incap each member of the Ennead using a different source of damage, one by one, never more than one in a turn.

I can't say if it would have worked or not, because the environment jumped in and killed Geb right near the end of the game.

Probably not right, but seemed worth a try with some of the tricky unlocks. May try something like it again.

Adding to the list of things it's not: defeating the entire Ennead with a single card while Anubis is in play.

It took Scorched Earth and 10 environment cards along with Imbued Fire, the Staff of Ra and Solar Flare. Probably the most setup I've done for one of these. I hope I never have to do it again.

Played on advanced so i would be sure to see everyone. Ra personally finished off all the villians as well as Anubis. He had both artifacts from the Tomb in his play area and all ongoings except for flame barrier in play.

It's not, lose with Ra, Tempest, and Fanatic against the enead at temple of anubis then win with Ra of two horizons, tempest, and fanatic against the enead at insula primalis.

I think I heard this relating to the RPG, but isn't insula primalis a major part of the oblivaeon crisis? I never actually read the letters page.

This is just a guess but shouldn't the unlock come from Horus of two horizons since that would be what he was before he went to recruit the ennead?

Maybe? But I'm unclear on that point, since Setting Sun Ra is much more visually similar to the original, and the ARG comic shows him as pretty much regular ol' Ra. I always associated Horus Ra as being part of just that particular event, and then he went back to doing his normal Ra thing.

In one of the episodes of The Letters Page(I'm not sure witch, I think it was an interlude), C and A did mention that most characters will have a costume change once in a while, but they then normally return to their standard costuming after the special event passes or whatever. They even used Ra as an example, saying he did get a shave and return to his normal costume once he regained his mind and power after the Horus of Two Horizons events...

Not sure how/if this will key into the unlock, but just thought I'd mention it.

Relatedly, I just tried self-incapping Horus Ra with two Solar Flares, Imbued Fire, the Staff, and Flame Barrier in play. That was 20 self-damage just off the Solar Flares...

I've been running Ra (or Horus Ra), F5 Legacy, Omni-X, and PW Argent Adept to help Ra do all the things, vs. Ennead in Tomb of Anubis, and I'm clearly missing something. Team comp? Villain? Environment? Many of the Fall of the Variants unlocks required a particular environment. And since we don't have Ft. Adamant yet... I'm at a loss.

I think if I give this another shot tomorrow I'll make sure a Fanatic is on the team.

Ok. I am a little.frustrated with this one. The letters page (listened both to Ra and Ennead episodes) indicates Ra joins forces with Anubis and the defeats the Ennead before taking them to fight Oblivaeon. There is no mention of any other hero or anything.

I have defeated the enyire Ennead with Anubis in play and multiples of Ra’s ongoings and got nothing.

My only oyher guess is to go through Ra’s entire cycle. Losing to the Ennead and then making sure to encounter Ammit (not sure if I need to win or lose there so maybe do both?). And then go back and beat the Ennead.

Well I guess I wl start trying that stuff, but it feels like I am grabbing at straws.

If this unlock involves the lead up to their final battle against Oblivaeon, than shouldn’t Ra be leading the team against the Ennead. After all, it was Ra that went to convince the Ennead to fight. And since this game isn’t 1 hero versus the villain I think Ra would have to be the one to defeat most if not all of the Ennead to simulate it was Ra And Ra alone who faced the Ennead. And since a battle like that would take a lot out of Ra and we know Ra succeeded, I’d imagine he would need to be low on health in the end, maybe below 10 or even as low as 1.

I've been giving it a game or two a day, but no luck yet. A couple of thoughts I had to help us narrow the potential focus a bit:

- If there's an environment requirement, we can be pretty sure it's at least on Earth. I've been mostly running Tomb of Anubis, but I may be off base. I'm considering moving over to Freedom Tower or Megalopolis for a few matches.

- If there's a party comp requirement (or non-requirement, as it were), we may need to think about excluding the F5 variants, if not the F5 in general, given the timing of the ARG comic of End of Days (it cuts off before F5 #800, which is where the F5 variants come in). I had been running a team including F5 Legacy and F5 Bunker to help Ra do All The Things, but that may have been a bad idea.

- The ARG comic mentions "the heroes" over and over but only actually names Ra and Fanatic. I'm still going with the theory that Fanatic needs to be on the team in some form.

Unlocked!

Horus Ra, Sentinels, PW Argent, Tempest, Greatest Legacy Vs. Ennead in Tomb of Anubis

Goal of the game was for Ra to drop to 1 HP, then end the game at full HP with a bunch of ongoings/staff out.

Side goals were for Anubis to be in play for most of the game (so had to leave Osiris in play), and for Ra to deal the killing blows to the Ennead.

Crucial elements: the full Ennead was NOT in play over the course of the game. Ra did NOT have all of his ongoings out. I left Fanatic out because thematically she didn't know this was going on, and he just showed up with the Ennead in tow in front of her.

I'm having trouble with Pastebin, so I can't seem to post a log, but I tried to replicate Braithewhite's unlock up there and failed. I definitely got Ra down to 1 hp, and then finished with him at full hp. Anubis was out, as was his Rod and Idol (both in Ra's play area). Ra took at the last 3, but not all, of the Ennead. He had lots of Ongoings out (mostly Living Conflagration multiple times), as well as the Staff. I was using Horus Ra.

So based on this it looks like:

  1. Ra must lead a team, first spot, against the Ennead in the Tomb of Anubis
  2. The team must win
  3. Fanatic can not be on the team
  4. Ra must drop to 1 hp and fully recover hit points back to max during the game
  5. Ra must deal the killing blow against each member of the Ennead

Things to check:
Can any version of Ra be used?
Can Fanatic be on the team?
Does Ra have to get the killing blow on every member of the Ennead or just a specific number of them?
Does Ra need to defeat Anubis or does Anubis even matter?

Unlocked it with Braithwrite’s team same set up. Brought Ra down to 1 hp and back to full easy to do with all the free healing, Ra did the killing blow on 8 of 9 Ennead members ( as long as he did the attack it counted, turn didn’t seem to matter). Only played what cards I felt like but waited until Ra was at 1 hp to play the staff though. Log attached

Unlock, using Horus Ra, Tempest, and Greatest Legacy vs Ennead in Tomb of Anubis. From the above conditions conjectured two posts above:
1. I'm guessing this is valid - probably requires Horus Ra.
2. Seems redundant to say that with condition 5.
3. Not sure about this one, but Fanatic certainly isn't required.
4. Does he need to end the game at full HP, or just recover to full during the game?
5. While, in my game, Ra did deal the last damage to each member of The Ennead that awoke, my game only involved waking up 5 total.

Anubis showed up twice in my game, but he didn't stay very long - defeated both times by the Ennead's one-shots.

Tested statement 1 - specifically the first position thing. Horus Ra in final position in Tomb vs Ennead, heroes won with all active, Fanatic not present, Ra down to 1 then healed to full at game end, Ra got killing blow on all Ennead members to enter play.

No unlock, so it appears he has to be in first position. Anubis entered play twice, but got destroyed immediately by the Ennead on their turn both times. On iOS so no log.

Horus Ra / Grampa Legacy / Omni-U / Tempest vs Ennead in that order.  Took Ra from 1 back to full, and won but Ra did not land the kill shot on the last Ennead.

No unlock.  Given what we know from bolnerap, it's possible that Ra may merely need to killshot X Ennead members as opposed to *all* of them.

Update: Unlocked with the same team as above; Horus Ra defeated three members of the Ennead (the starting three, as none of the others wanted to play), with the Staff of Ra and Imbued Fire entering play. Objectives 1-5 were met; I destroyed both the Staff and Imbued Fire via their powers, but other logs seem to indicate that is not required. Anubis was destroyed by the Ennead. Based on that, I believe that NinjaMonkey is mostly correct, with the addendum of #5 being "Ra must defeat at least three members of the Ennead". I say this as my first run with this team did not unlock with the defeat of two.

Got the unlock with Hours Ra, Grandpa Legacy, PW AA, Tempest and TL Tachyon. I followed the first unlock method getting Ra down to 1hp then bringing him back to full. Ra KOed all the Ennead members that showed up. Anubis did pop up twice but died shortly after. I did chuck his staff to KO Osiris and played it 3 times so that might have something to do with it. Here is the log for the fight. https://pastebin.com/EtZrzDLP

I had a couple of failed attempts at this last night - 1st had Horus Ra in first position but not surviving. 2nd had Horus Ra in first position, kill all the Ennead that came into play, but didn’t go down to 1 health and back up.

I played a game with these conditions.

From this check list of things

Can any version of Ra be used?
Can Fanatic be on the team?
Does Ra have to get the killing blow on every member of the Ennead or just a specific number of them?
Does Ra need to defeat Anubis or does Anubis even matter?

Horus Ra was used

Fanatic was not on the team

Ra got the killing blow of all six ennead that came into play

Anubis came into play, and was destroyed by 'Desert's Wrath', so Ra does not have to destroy Anubis, and Anubis does not have to be in play at the end of the game.

At least one member of the Ennead in my unlock was destroyed by an environment card. So that rules out the “Ra deals the killing blow to each theory” It’s still possible Ra must take out some Ennead members.

I just unlocked it with Ra killing all but 1 and America’s greatest Legacy killing the other one. Ra was my only standing hero by the end. Went down to 1 but came back up to full, but was around 20 at the end. Horus Ra in first position at the Tomb.

I’m going to say:

1. Win a game with Horus variant Ra at Tomb of Anubis vs the Ennead.

2. Ra must be in the first position

3. Ra must go down to 1 hp and then go back up to maximum hp during the game.

4. Ra must defeat at least 3 members of the Ennead himself.

Has anyone gotten him with Fanatic on the team? If not, I would add and update:

4. Ra must do the killing blow against at least 3 members of the Ennead. 5. Fanatic can not be on the team

Well done! The community has discovered the official unlock condition for Ra: Setting Sun.

Defeat the Ennead in the Tomb of Anubis with Ra: Horus of Two Horizons as the first hero. Fanatic may not be on the team. During the game, Ra must be reduced to 1 HP, then restored to maximum HP. Ra must deal the final blow to at least 3 members of the Ennead.

(just in time too, I'm about to board a flight)

Nice job all, Braithwhite especially.  Another well-deserved Hall of Fame spot for you.  I never would have guessed the 1 HP->full HP thing, it's incredibly improbable in organic play and I'm not sure how it follows from the story.  And I was sure Horus wouldn't be required, since we know he wasn't in his Horus aspect at the time (due to Cosmic Contest).

He never really stopped being Horus Ra.  His outfit likely went back to normal after a while.  Also we go from a sunrise to a sunset.

Wow. That was fast. It makes sense with Ra’s story too. Previously we just hadn’t thought about the middle of his cycle being represented by him being reduced to 1hp and then climbing back to full power for the end of his cycle.

I secured the unlock last night with PW Haka (for rapid healing after Ra hits 1 HP), Wraith (for deck control), Argent Adept (to give Ra more turns and slow healing) and Grandpa Legacy (to give Ra more turns and for defense in general).

It went easily. Ra can both do damage and provide Flesh of the Sun God when he gets extra power uses. Osiris’s self-damage attacks don’t matter if everyone is using fire via Imbued FIre and immune to fire. The discards were more annoying, including Tefnut’s discards on her incapacitated side.

I left Shu for last. Normally I tend to target healers first, but Ra had little trouble doing enough damage to ignore the healing, and once Shu is the only one up he can only do damage via one shots, and the team has plenty of time to whittle Ra down to 1 HP.

I was worried that the turn Ra goes down to 1 HP was going to put him in danger of death, but all I had to do was put down a Ground Pound with Haka to neutralize any risk. Megacomputers had already mostly eliminated any threat of environment damage. I planned on protecting Ra from villain one shots with Lead from the Front, but I didn’t get that until I’d already brought Ra down to 1 and brought him immediately back up to 11 with Haka of Restoration.
