The Dark Watch variants of the Dark Watch take on challenge Progeny in Rook City with a randomsed start.
Good luck. You'll need it.
Also, I am already heartily sick of fighting Progeny and I doubt the next couple of weeks are going to help.

A more aptly titled one-shot I have never seen. Why couldn't he at least be Normal difficulty? D: Let the Freedom Five handle him with extra rules!
The title does not refer to this fight..
*sign* and again...
Honestly, this one I'm going to just skip.
If it wasn't random, I would know that I at least have a chance.
...Setback cheerfully exclaimed, "What's the worst that could happen? Maybe its head will shoot off into space! That would be so cool!"
...Is Adam Setback?
I think you could say every character is a bit of Adam. I fall into the camp of the floating head looking cool though.
Fine, after many, many tries, and with some serious cheese.
I gave it an honest try for my first two, of course. But after that, I needed a strong setup: Dual Crowbars, Bloody Knuckles, and Friendly Fire probably took half of Progeny's HP down, but took Setback out of commission.
Then, Mist Form, some luck getting the Environmental allies, and everybody but Nightmist got incapacitated...leaving me enough deck (Mr. Fixer's incap ability) and Ongoing (Expatriette likewise) control to let the toxic sludge of Rook City eat away at Progeny until Nightmist could break out of mist and plink him to death with redirected damage.
Nightmist at 9, everybody else incapp'd.
Blugh.
Gave it an honest-to-goodness try.
First game: Everyone incapped, Progeny had taken 2 whole damage
Second game: Everyone incapped, Progeny down to 20 hp. Got lucky and just had Blight forms out for a few turns so just wailed on him with shotguns, Looking Up, and various Fixer tools.
Third game: Was liberal with the rewinds (Whats going to come out in the environment? Do I want to play X over Y from Nightmist depending on what card comes up?) and still only managed to get him down to 50
I'm going to say this here. I am going to keep trying but the Dark Watch variants of the Dark Watch team is probably my least favorite hero combination in game. I just can't seem to get them to synergize at all. Mr. Fixer eats into the setups, Expatriette can't play extra guns to feed to him, Nightmist's draw/redirect capabilities are severely reduced, Setback just turns into a meh tank if he can't draw/keep out some ongoings....
Although they can put out some serious hurt if you don't mind giving Setback the Jason Todd treatment but I never drew Friendly Fire :(
Good luck to everyone still trying.
And I am scared of what is coming if these last two are really just Preludes....
Saw the challenge and just said "Nope!"
Idk, in the video game, it looks silly, but I can totally imagine how cool it would be, becoming more projectile-like as it flies up.
I gave it one try, and that’s enough for me. I HATE the Dark Watch variants (except for ExPatriette. And Fixer is “meh,” but I like the original better.)
Oh except Harpy though. Hers is just fantastic.
So far, I’m about seven tries in, and have brought Progeny into single digits 3 times... but not to zero yet.
not sure how many tries I have left in me.
Near Mint here. Got buried by a horrible Scum and Villainy combo on my first attempt - I had no environment destruction in hand when the first one came up, then Progeny played Time of Tribulations on his turn, then on the next environment turn, I ate AOE 5 from Scum and Villainy, followed by another Scum and Villainy being played, into a Form of the Harbinger for another AOE 3 + 3... yeah, that wasn't great.
Round 2 went much better. Expat started with the shotgun, Fixer started with Driving Mantis and got to redirect a bunch of Racketeer hits toward Progeny, Nightmist got set up and tanked behind Mist Form after Progeny did a massive whiff on all his ongoing destruction while searching for other cards, and Setback survived a surprisingly long time behind High Risk Behavior and Surprising Fortune, which kept feeding Nightmist more cards. Eventually Progeny hit on a good combo and buried everyone but Nightmist, who steadily healed up behind Mist Form, leading to the following cycle:
- Expat destroys an ongoing or skips
- Fixer puts Falling Statuary back on the bottom of the environment deck
- Nightmist draws three cards and heals via the Necklace
- Setback spies the environment deck to get rid of nasties, then starts spying Progeny's deck when the environment deck is down to nothing but Toxic Sludge and Falling Statuary
At that point, I just watched the environment kill Progeny for a while. Finally he played Beginning of the End when he was down to 4 HP, and I threw out the amulet to watch him kill himself. Nightmist finished at full HP, as she does.
Finally managed to beat this one with Nightmist the last one standing with 2 hp. I would say I put in over 10 trys on this one.
Wasn't doing too bad for a while then a series of bad plays from both the environment and Progeny wiped out Expatriette and Mr. Fixer in quick succession and Setback soon after. I had 2 Mistforms in hand, 5 hp and no necklace so I resigned myself to a long haul that *might* work out for me and put Nightmist into Mist Form.
Similar to bolnerap above, I just destroyed ongoings/environments if they were not beneficial (Toxic waste/Time of Turbulations as that destroys a Scion card) and judiciously used Setback's Look at top card/Rewind/Look at top card of other deck to find the setup that would not cause Mistform to be destroyed by Progeny. There was one scary bit where it was destroyed at a bad time but I had some "Reduce damage to hero" built up and survived with 2 hp and put the other Mist Form in play on her turn.
2 Toxic wastes = 10 damage/round to Progeny which brought him down from ~75 hp eventually. Stacked up a few more "Reduce the next damage dealt to heroes", waited for Progeny to get to <5 hp, and Oblivioned him down.
Near Mint.
Like others, I gave it a good try on the first attempt. Nightmist went down first and I ended up with Setback left. Good damage reduction and some healing ability kept him alive for a while, but not enough.
For the second game, it was obvious I would have to rely on incaps, so I chose Nightmist because she can do everything, especially heal and tank damage, and everyone else's incaps were way better than hers. With Mistform out, she relied on Mr. Fixer, Setback, Tony Taurus and Dr. Tremata to stack the decks very favorably. (while soaking up all damage to Tony and the good doctor so they stayed out for a long time) Eventually the Toxic Sludges came out and hurt Progeny badly. With all the deck stacking, Progeny went from 75 down to 3 while Nightmist hid under Mistform the entire time. She had her healing amulet out near the start, so even if something bad happened somehow, she was at full health.
At the end, Nightmist came out of Mistform and played Amulet of the Elder Gods. (no sense playing an attack spell- there were no cards in her deck) Progeny then promptly blasted himself in the face.
I almost wonder if the Dark Watch is built to be beat down like that and then rely on incaps to win the game. It does seem like Nightmist is their Superman and everyone else is there to set her up. It's fairly easy to control the villain deck with Mr. Fixer and Nightmist can only be hurt by ongoing destruction once she's in Mistform. This is generally a bad match up for them anyway- Dark Watch deals better with multiple targets and they have decent ongonig destruction. Neither of which is great against Progeny since they need the ongoings to stay our and destroy Scions.
Yeah, I got a Near-Mint using endless incap shenanigans. Right at the start, Setback pulled Wrong Time, Wrong Place, which let him eat all of Progeny's damage. Then Mr. Fixer dropped Dual Crowbars and Bloody Knuckles to hit himself in the face for 8 damage and hit Progeny for 11, so that he died. Nightmist hopped into Mist Form, Expatriette got blown up, and I started aggressively manipulating Progeny's deck and the environment deck. Mr. Fixer managed to seed all of the Falling Statuaries and Toxic Sludges back into Rook City, Setback discarded the worst of the Progeny cards while Expatriette kept blowing up Ongoings, I narrowly avoided a Beginning of the End, and then once everything was together Mr. Fixer just kept dropping Ongoings to the bottom of Progeny's deck while he was slowly murdered by toxic goo.
It was not a quick win, but it was pretty solid.
I ended up winning finally via the Friendly Crowbars/Mist Form combo.
The early release is killing me, though. I got a Good because I thought I still had a half hour left before the new one. :(
