All right, here we go! Not sure why Bunker is first, but I like this variant a lot better than Wraith, or even Legacy, so I’ll take it.
Which is not to say either of those are bad, but neither improve their hero quite as much as this one does.

Bringing over the comment from my parallelly created version of the thread...
I wonder if the Freedom Five will have a theme like the Xtreme Prime Wardens did...
I usually go for story-based unlocks first, but in this case the F5 all got their new costumes when they rallied after the destruction of Freedom Tower by OblivAeon, which A) isn't really replicable right now and B) won't be the same unlock condition for all five members.
We've already had a "play all 3 mode cards" and a "draw lots of cards" as unlock conditions, which would be the ones that tie most obviously into his new mechanic. So... nothing really springs to mind here.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Well, I tried a thing based on the Wiki writeup - something about stockpiling artifacts and being pulled in multiple directions. I did a match in Tomb of Anubis vs. Gloomweaver, had both the Relics in Bunker's play area at the end, and had him deal a pile of damage to the heroes (incapacitating everyone else). Didn't work, but hey, it was worth a shot.
Then again, if it's one of those DCAA-style interactions where certain things between teammates are verboten, I probably didn't do stuff right. But I'm just throwing stuff against the wall.
I had an idea for a “prerequisite” game, wherein you play as the Freedom Five against Deadline in Freedom Tower, and lose by lack of environment. This could simulate Freedom Tower being destroyed.
Tried something sort of similar with the artifacts angle. Tried a game vs. Kismet in the Tomb of Anubis. Finished the game with the Talisman and both relics in Bunker's play area, and had him deal the final blow.
No unlock.
It could just be as simple as "Lose a game in Freedom Tower" first...
I doubt there is a loss condition that comes first. If there is, and the whole Freedom Five have that condition, it means losing each week after each unlock becomes available. I doubt they'd do that to us.
Um, did they press their magic button correctly? I’ve quit and reopened the app several times, even force-closing it, and I don’t see Freedom Five Bunker in the list of variants. (Android via Amazon if it matters.)
So, it also is not:
Lose a game to Deadline via destruction of Freedom Tower, with the Freedom Five
and then:
Win a game with Bunker in the lead position, vs. Kismet, in the Tomb of Anubis, and finish with the Talisman and both relics in Bunker's play area.
But if there is a prerequisite of Freedom Tower being destroyed first, I've fulfilled it as best I could think of.
Sounds like you need to update to the latest version (2.5.7). Amazon Appstore isn't great about auto-updates.
You are correct, sir, thank you!
You probably won’t have to lose each week, but rather each week’s prerequisite will involve getting Bunker first. Like with the original Prime Wardens.
Didn't Bunker blow up all/most of his suits during the OblivAeon event? Maybe External Combustion is a key part, or maybe Bunker has to be incapped/low HP with no equipment at the end of a game?
I'm not seeing the variant avaliable on my Steam version yet either...
Good luck everybody!
Freedom 5 entails the Freedom Tower environment the back of bunkers freedom five card has him blowing up the Ironclad maintenance Bay I’m wondering if it involves freedom five in Freedom Tower with that environment card in play I’ve been doing Nemesis battles with those caveats but I’m on Android so no logs. More attempts to come.
Heads up: there was an issue with the server setting and so Bunker wasn't actually unlockable until just now. Restart your game and it should pick up the change. Sorry about that, it was a new thing and it's my bad!
The Bunker suit had a software glitch.
Ah! That's the first step to the unlock!
First attempt: Failure. Tried base freedom five versus akash'buuta (wanted a long game with plenty of opportunities to proc conditions since I can't think of a specific villain for this one aside from Oblivaeon, and obviously that's not an option). Drew a bunch of cards, was in every mode at least once or twice, played most of Bunker's cards, Bunker's Omni-Cannon delivered the final blow.
Honestly, at a bit of a loss for where to start with this one. Normally I just try to recreate the story events leading up to the variant in question, but that's obviously impossible as of right now, so feel kinda lost without some sort of hint.
Ok, I can confidently say it isn’t to weirdly have a super challenging game against Ambuscade in Insula Primalis where Bunker dies super fast. Helpful...
Also, just had another game with each Freedom Five member in Megalopolis against Baron Blade. Bunker dealt the final blow with a 12-card omni blast of doom. No unlock...
Another Failure. Thought I'd try ruling out one of the more basic things this time: freedom five versus baron blade, in freedom tower, had bunker double skip every turn. So I can safely say it's not as simple as "Don't do x".
Another Failure. Freedom five versus baron blade again, this time in megalopolis. Bunker was incapped before the end of the game.
How about Freedom Five versus Vengeance Five?
Tried Freedom 5 vs. Deadline in Freedom Tower and managed to lose via environment destruction with the whole team at full HP, with Bunker double-skipping. Then hit the Retry button and won. No unlock.
However, I did have the thing happen where the log showed a bunch of eligible achievements that I'd already earned. I did see F5 Bunker in the list, though, so hopefully that wasn't a meaningful bug.
Hmmmmmmmm...
Have we tried Bunker getting all his gear out in play, then losing it all by the end of the game?
We have now.
Bunker and assorted friends vs. Ambuscade in Freedom Tower. Played and used all his equipment, had all his equipment destroyed, played all his equipment again. Won. No unlock.
Well, it is not the entire freedom five vs Progeny with Tachyon icapacitated and Bunker dealing the final blow
These are sadly the worst kind of unlocks: at least with most of them you have story to work with, you can try to recreate the story events that led to that variant in the lore. But with these, that's not an option: the Freedom Five variants are a result of Oblivaeon destroying freedom tower and wrecking the freedom five. You can't do that, because Obliveaon isn't out yet. So now it's just a scavenger hunt, screwing around trying random things with no real direction or clues, hoping someone will find it by accident.
I know why the developers don't just release the variant and why they let people try to unlock it, but this is isn't satisfying: this isn't a reward for playing well, it's a reward for getting lucky.
Okay, rant over, tried a game against Baron Blade with Legacy, Wraith, Bunker, and Tachyon on the Mobile Defense Platform. These variants are essentially a celebration of the freedom five after all, so I thought I'd try recreating the Freedom Four Annual that started the team. No unlock. Running out of ideas fast (in fact that was pretty much my last idea, I've tried everything else that makes sense).
It will get better when we get more clues. Trust me. :)
Oh I know, I've done these before, I unlocked all five of the last variants like this. But the wait for someone to unlock it by accident is a pain in the ass, because there's literally nothing to go on until then. Once we have that, it becomes fun again, an actual scavenger hunt. Till then it feels like just spinning our wheels. The hunt can be fun, but this is definitely the least fun part by far, especially when we don't even have story related events we can recreate.
The Dark Watch Setback one didn’t have a story to it. Nor did the Unity ones. Once we find it out then the story will be clear
And now I can say firsthand that accidently discovering it (or even intentionally) is pretty satisfying. (No I’m not talking about this week. I’m still riding the high of unlocking Sky-Scraper on my first attempt.)
It probably doesn’t involve using all Modes, as that was the requirement for F6. Maybe using every power in the deck?
I used all his powers in the attempt I described above. Sorry I didn't make that clear, but I used both of the functions on Auxiliary Power Source as well as all the powers on all his other equipment.
I'm of two minds on the accidental stumbling. Two of my 'first' unlocks felt natural and like things I would have done during a game. The other, Termi-Nation Unity, was total blind luck and the only reason I got it was that I happened to have Visionary on the team for that precious 15th hero target. I'm super happy I got TN Unity! But the hunt on that one was a little frustrating because it basically required either (A) a 3H team with Visionary, which is what I had, or (B) having Captain Cosmic on the team, who doesn't have much to do with Unity and whom I rarely use if I can avoid it.
Anyway, that's a little off-topic. Back to Bunker.
I've been throwing stuff against the wall again today. Here's some stuff I tried, mostly in Freedom Tower:
- Going off the "Fall Before the Harbinger" comic, I tried finishing Progeny with Bunker while the F5 were all under 10 HP...
- Finishing Progeny with Bunker's Flak Cannon immediately after AZ hit him with ice, while Legacy/Tachyon/Wraith were all incapped...
- Destroying all of Bunker's available cards in play with Omnitron-X's Singularity, thanks to Caspit's Playground (which was at least fun to see Singularity do 27 damage to all targets)...
- Tried my Relic thing in Tomb of Anubis again since John said it wouldn't have worked last night if it were the right idea...
So yeah, I'm low on ideas. I have one more thing I'm going to try out based on Fall before the Harbinger; I will report back when I finish.
Well, I tried losing to Progeny with Dark Watch in Rook City, then losing to Progeny with the Prime Wardens in Tomb of Anubis, then beating Progeny with the Freedom Five, with the final two hits being AZ Cold and Bunker Fire damage and the other three incapacitated, in Megalopolis. No dice.
And I'm pretty much sick of fighting Progeny at this point, so I'm taking a break. Good luck, team.
Another failure. Freedom five versus Akash'buuta in freedom tower. Think I did essentially *everything* as bunker. Played every card in his deck at least once, used every power at least once, dealt the final blow as bunker. I am 100% out of ideas. :(
For the record, you can totally do Termi-Nation Unity with no other heroes who supply targets. She has 14 of her own, after all.
Hrm. I thought it was 3*H targets in addition to the heroes - but I suppose looking back that though I *got the unlock* the turn she got the last two out, it meant that there were three characters, 12 golems, and Decoy Projection out for the complete round.
Well, anyway, that still requires H=3, which I suppose is sort of intuitive since it's a Termi-Nation thing? So that's a little better than I thought.
I’m at tried again for an OmniCannon dump with 21 cards and the killing blow. I would have done more but I got bored. Everyone was just waiting around skipping all their turns to get back to Bunker...no unlock.
Termi-Nation heroes vs Chokepoint in Omnitron IV (considering no access to Fort Adamant yet). Really annoying game: first four Evironment cards were Mechani-Accumulator, Resource Recycler to bring it back, another Mechani-Accumulator, and another Resource Recycler. Between that and Chokepoint herself I had trouble getting anything set up. Unity drew just about every bot except Swift before getting means of getting any of them into play and AZ never got a benefit from his power, only punishment as he couldn’t keep anything else in play until he was too low to risk it.
Won with all heroes sub-10 HP, but it was a mess and can’t say that I got any useful data from the experience. No unlock. I can say that I only got one Mode (Turret) into play just long enough to sacrifice to use his base power in a bid to draw into something helpful.
Hmm… maybe something like (multiple?) Decommissioned Hardware while the Ironclad Maintenance Bay is in play or something? Lots of different suits shown?
Played Ambuscade in Freedom Tower. (Bunker, Rook City Wraith, Visionary and Freedom 6 Tachyon) At the end of the game, I did a 37 card Omni-Cannon to take him from full to 0. I had every environment card in the trash when the game ended. Note, I didn't destroy all the environment cards, I put some in the trash via Rook City Wraith. Only cards not under omni-cannon were Heavy Plating and Maintenance Unit. (and a copy of Omni-Cannon, of course)
No unlock.
Thank you for your service. I couldn’t take doing it anymore haha.
First F5 is tough, have no idea if there might be patterns we can follow...
So, this is just me thinking aloud, but the F5 Bunker power, Tactical Uplink, has a lot to do with modes. So there could be a requirement around the number of turns you do or don't have a mode in play. Like the rule might be 'always have a mode card in play at the end of Bunker's turn' or 'never play a mode card' or something of that nature...
![]()
I wanted to have all his cards under Omni-Cannon, but Mission Control took a few cards out of my deck and without Unity or Dark Mister Fixer around, I had no way to destroy my own equipment. Something to remember for next time.
Well, I can confirm it's more complicated than "never play a mode card" since I already tried the obligatory double skip with bunker every turn.
Also just confirmed that having a mode card in play at the end of every turn is also not sufficient. I also had all three mode cards in play at some point during the game.
Does anyone know if the multiple game conditions usually have to be in a row? Like, if the condition is "lose a game as x then win a game as x" do those games have to be sequential?
If not, I've tried losing and then winning a game against progeny in the freedom tower with the freedom five (tachyon got incapped), no success, bunker dealt the final blow.
Looking back at the previous bunker variants, with the exception of GI bunker they were all pretty specific. I have a feeling I might as well wait at this point. Not like they're gonna give us a hint or anything like that... Oh well, at least no one has been eagerly awaiting the freedom five variants for months, right? :/
They do not.
Entropy, that would have made Omni-X [censored] insane.
Tried recreating some important parts of the termination event, had a game in which base bunker got hit by Chokepoint's harvest the mighty, followed by a game in which bunker defeated Chokepoint as Termination Bunker. No dice. I feel like I've recreated every important event in Bunker's story at this point (aside from the Oblivaeon event, but I can't do that yet), to no avail. Really hoping someone gets a successful unlock soon, so we at least have some sort of clue to work with.
I've tried a few times and failed. Can someone attempt to defeat Miss Information with the Freedom Five (Originals) in Freedom Tower?
I know failing doesn't work.
They don't but the game doesn't start tracking them until a character becomes unlockable. So any past games before Bunker became unlockable Tuesday night don't count.
Termination Bunker’s incap side shows Omnitron. Perhaps that villain (or environment) is important?
Did it. Beat Miss Information on Freedom Tower, with the Freedom Five, Bunker dealt the final blow with omni-cannon. No one was incapped. No unlock. ![]()
It was a good idea though, definitely worth a shot.
This is the longest we've gone in a while without even an accidental unlock, isn't it?
a shot from the Omni-Cannon.
Thanks! Also, congrats on beating it with no incaps!
Tried KNYFE: Rogue Agent, Adamant Sentinels and Termi-Nation Bunker vs. Chokepoint at the Block. I figured I'd grab the people that were likely part of Project Ironclad and chose the block since it's the closest thing we have to a military installation. Won with no problem. No unlock.
Onr thing I tried to do was to select Bunker, and just press random. Play it normally, or wierdly, and see what happens.
Just as a baseline because I didn’t see anyone else do it. I did the do nothing test.
Ambuscade in Freedom tower vs. Base Freedom Five. Bunker in lead and double skipped the whole game.
No unlock. - No surprise really, but it had to be done.
What is the most number of powers somone amde Bunker use in one turn (on his or somone elses)?
I got 5 by blowing up all three power sources and being in turret mode. Although technically the card draw one didn't do anything since I was in turret mode
That does make me wonder, Have we all been trying with base Bunker? Maybe we need to try a variant? Termi-nation Bunker is the only other one that is Tyler Vance so maybe him
Just a thought, but has anyone tried winning a game at Freedom Tower with each of the other 4 Bunker variants?
I doubt it’s that, but it seems like a straw worth grasping at.
That's a good idea!
Can it also be that Bunker has to be incapped as well?
We can try both with Ironclad Maintenance Bay in play.
Another thought, since his suit looks a lot like Baron Blade's, maybe he needs to defeat Baron Blade like this as well?
I know all of these can't be done at the same time, but it's still worth a shot!
Have there ever been unlock conditions which involved Vengeance mode? I doubt this is it, but maybe the Freedom V unlocks involve the Vengeful 5 somehow.
I beat the Vengeful Five with the Freedom Five in Freedom Tower,
No unlock.
I've still been beating the Progeny/Freedom Tower drum. Today:
- Beat Progeny with Bunker as the only incapacitated F5 hero, after Progeny destroyed Ironclad Maintenance Bay
- Beat Progeny with the final attack from Bunker at 1 HP, after Progeny destroyed Ironclad Maintenance Bay
among other F5 vs. Progeny escapades. I'm guessing that I'm barking up the wrong tree or that this one has a high amount of detail.
Oh, I forgot - I also tried spending 2H turns in each Mode by parking behind Meteor Storm in a 3H game, then breaking out of Meteor Storm and one-shotting Ambuscade with Gatling Gun (thanks, PW Haka). That didn't work either, obviously.
That is a very specific game… I don’t blame you.
but this is fun! It’s been a few days and no unlocks! A lot more exciting than first 20 minutes.
Hey, first 20 minutes was REALLY exciting for me!
Maybe he something to do similar to F6. Try doing our plans but lose to progeny first. Or all of them could have the first lose unlock second idea.
Maybe tachyon had to use experiment to reveal two equipments.
The blurb in the Kickstarter write-up back when it was unlocked as a stretch goal mentioned something about him knowing it is his duty to protect everyone. Any clue in there you guys can read into, because I'm at a loss. "Stop the environment from playing H cards in a game?"
I'm just checking... I know they had a problem with F5 Bunker being available-to-be-unlocked-but-not-really initially, and they supposedly fixed that, but I also notice that the little ad on the side of of the startup menu still has extremist skyscraper as the current variant, and it's been a long time with no successful unlocks from anyone as far as I know... I mean, it's possible that the unlock conditions for this are just absurdly specific, but I feel like we've had a lot of people searching for quite a while, it's weird that we haven't had a single successful unlock... are we sure that problem or whatever has actually been fixed? I know there have been variants that have taken a long time for the community to figure out, but it's weird to go this long without even a single successful unlock... I mean, unless people have unlocked it and just aren't saying anything.
Yeah, that we haven't even had an accidental unlock is kind of concerning.
I wonder if we'll get a hint if nobody unlocks it by the time the next unlock comes online.
That said, my random guess: Lose 4 games with the 4 different variants of Bunker. Or play 4 games in which each version of Bunker is incapped.
Data: Akash in Freedom Tower against KNYFE Rogue Agent, Dark Conductor, base Bunker and OX (in that order)
Used powers from other heroes on Bunker so he did all the things.
OX got the final blow.
No unlock.
I will go back and repeat so that Bunker has the final blow.
That's not it. I lost games with all the bunkers in freedom tower. Baron, Matri, Progeny, and legacy
Basically we had one guess and I disproved it.
Tried a game in Megalopolis that echoed Extremist Sky-Scraper’s unlock.
Ambuscade vs Freedom Five (Termination Bunker variant)
goal: win a game. Bunker must have at least 3 turns where all three modes were in play.
No unlock
Definitely easier to do with the Termination variant, but still possible with the base one. I’ll have to try again with the base version.
What about winning four games in which the four Bunkers are incapped?
Super weird thought....
what if, hear me out, what if Bunker is NOT needed ?
for the next games I’m going random and see what sticks.
Well, I've started the Bunker roulette. First I lost to Progeny in Freedom Tower with the Freedom Five, just in case.
My first game was against the Matriarch in the Final Wasteland, with Bunker, Requital Cosmic, Unity and Legacy. No heroes died. Bunker only got one Mode out all game (blug), but drew about thirty cards thanks to the Library and a few Bolster Allies (and yet, no modes until almost the end of the game). That didn't unlock anything.
That was just missed because Jeremy & Crista have gone to PAX. I've updated the news item with Bunker.
I am not surprised there has not been an unlock yet.
Not surprised? We may be in trouble on this one.
Here’s my thinking: Handelabra pushed a magic button that made F5 Bunker seem to be available, in that he showed up in the app. However, they missed a step and it wasn’t actually possible. That tells me that they had to manually enable at least two elements, if not more. It might just involve two games, but they’ve done that before and not screwed it up. I’m actually wondering if it’s something completely different, like if it has to be in multiplayer or something.
Not surprised? Hmm, maybe that means his unlock condition involves a game no one in their right mind would ever willingly choose to play. (Ok, that's an overgeneralization. Their are people who do enjoy repeatedly hitting their twigs and berries with a hammer. Who am I to judge.):
1. Spite in Rook City. Or just Spite period.
2. Miss Information vs a 5 man team. Or just Miss Information period.
3. The Chairman in Rook City vs a 3 man team.
I think that would be excessively unfair, and hope that is not the case.
More likely it’s something like Omnitron U or Termination Bunker that has lots of moving parts.
Last night, I tried to follow the ARG comic with Progeny’s assault on Rook City. Lots of games of people getting torn up - the Prime Wardens in Tomb of Anubis, then all this in Rook City: Dark Watch plus the Scholar, the Freedom Five, then a match with a couple F5 folks with the Sentinels and Dark Visionary. I followed by Chrono Ranger, Parse and KNYFE beating Progeny. Then tried the three variants of those beating Progeny. No unlock.
We just have to think outside the box on this one. What haven't we tried yet? Is there any way to simulate the power of FV Bunker?
Apparently Handelabra is surprised we HAVEN'T got it yet. Maybe by thinking outside the box, like we normally do, we should think inside the box!
Read what John said again. He is not surprised there is no unlock. So, the condition is likely some measure of complex or specific that would be difficult to stumble on.
Data: Just tried against ChokePoint in Omni IV with term Bunker, term Unity, term AZ and the Green Sentinels.
It was a tough, but fun game. I came out on top, but no unlock.
Yup, you're right!
Sorry John! I forgot how to read today
I did think of one other reason that would make the lack of an unlock unsurprising - some form of aggregate condition over multiple games. But that hasn't really been a thing before, so I doubt it would be now.
It’s not “Lose to Progeny with the Freedom 5 minus Bunker. I was thinking the same thing, Greatest Legacy needed Legacies to not be in the game. Could it be the same wi5 Bunker?
Maybe he's not surprised no one's got the unlock yet because it actually does require OblivAeon and we have to wait for it to be released haha.
Maybe you unlock it by losing a game in a particular way!
I thought since the new power was tactical uplink, it would be related to his Bunker's tactics power to draw a card. I tried the following:
Deadline vs. Legacy, Tempest, Dark Watch Setback and Bunker at Realm of Discord. Bunker used tactics on each of his turns and the heroes won. No unlock.
Infinitor vs. Haka, Visionary, Extreme Skyscraper, Captain Cosmic: Requiem and Bunker at Enclave of the Endlings. Bunker drew 25 cards in a single turn and the heroes won. No unlock.
So I keep playing “throw word deleted by Mod at the wall games” but my log keeps showing no potential unlock for FV Bunker what am I missing ???
If I read the SS unlock thread correctly, the appearance of that in the log was an error. Debug code that shouldn't have appeared to non-Handleabra employees.
Up with the baby, tried finishing off three different villains with Bunker in different modes each time (thanks, Gatling Gun, for making Recharge Mode possible) - no dice.
I'm pretty much out of ideas here, I think I'm taking a break and waiting for Wraith/AZ where I actually have ideas.
After a few days of trying to work out what we are all doing wrong I have decided that the best stragey is to just keep hitting random until I get something with Bunker in it...play to either a win or a loss...and when the unlock does not appear pour myself another glass of wine and try again. I have no idea where the weekend has gone.
Can we all do that? Does it have to be wine or can I substitue Gin and Tonics. ![]()
I'm much more of a beer man.
Blech. It’s gotta be whiskey for me. Or vodka.
I'll stick with my Shirley Temples.
I had a thought. I'm still stuck on MigrantP not being suprised it hasn't been unlocked yet. I'm thinking that means we have to try things we never tried before. Maybe the unlock condition involves multiple games which are always SO MUCH fun to figure out, I'm looking at you Omnitron-U.
Maybe it has to do with the events leading up to Oblivaeon. I rememeber reading or maybe hearing that Progeny basically rolled through all the heroes leaving a path of destruction before destroying Rook City. Since we need to try things that we've never tried before, why not try recreating the Progeny "event" which eventually led to the formation of the Freedom Five. Since the Freedom Five are a team maybe we can limit ourselves to just the other teams that were crushed by Progeny like Dark Watch, The Prime Wardens, Termination?, or any other team I may be forgetting. I don't think they'd be so cruel as to have us lose a game against Progeny by all heroes in the game in order to unlock Bunker...would they?
Maybe it's
Get bunker enough to try and drunk you own Build suit.
Being a minor, I guess that leaves me with sparkling grape juice. Good stuff though.
Re: previous post by NinjaMonkey - here is what I tried along those lines already.
Also, someone suggested beating Ultimate Progeny in Megalopolis with the Freedom Five - that's not it either (no incaps, Bunker dealt the final blow from the last position).
It's a shame that your the only person working on it while the rest of us are talking about getting drunk.
Well, that didn't work. Figured it couldn't be that easy.
I wonder about how Handelabra views these unlock hunts... I think it's pretty clear that they view last week's unlock as far too easy (and I would probably agree), but do they consider this long without a single unlock to be appropriate difficulty? I really hope not...
@ian.hankin: It's Christopher that creates the unlock conditions, not any of the Handelabrats.
Edit: Ninja'd by Powerhound. :P
Just a quick note Handelabra does not set the conditions for the unlocks. The unlock conditions are set by by Christopher. Handelabra just implements what they are given.
Ah, that's good to know. Though I suppose the same question applies to Christopher in that case.
Someone! Quick! Ask it on the letters page!
I'd guess that the unlock conditions were determined in advance of Fall of the Variants starting so Handelabra had enough time to program all of the hooks and test the unlock conditions beforehand. Don't think difficulty of the previous unlocks would've been factored in and gave them enough time to upgrade them.
In keeping with the only clue we have (the bio for Freedom Five Bunker, which states that he's focused on protecting the innocent and saving lives), I tried a long game in megalopolis with the freedom five, and Bunker personally discarded to prevent 5 Impending Casualties. No unlock. :( Thought I might have been on to something, but unfortunately not. It's pretty obvious at this rate that whatever this condition is, we're not likely to complete it without actively trying to, which requires at least some vague idea of what it might be- if it was the sort of thing you could complete by accident, someone would have by now.
Also, just have Bunker draw 10 cards from ammo drop in a single turn, and deliver the final blow. No unlock.
Thats thinking outside the box!! Of course the last episode said they were recorded the next several in advance due to schedules and the holiday so it may be a few weeks. ![]()
So truly thinking outside the box, and this is thinking way out there, What of The condition requires restarting or quitting a game at some point. I know it’s insane but if X-Men on the Sega Genesis taught me anything it’s that game programmers are evil.
That’s the one that required you to press the reset button on the console to get past a certain point, right?
It's not just beat Kaargra with the Freedom Five in Freedom Tower.
As interesting as that is, I have to believe that would have been discovered by now if that was the case.
Played a match in Freedom Tower with normal Bunker. Kept Upgrade Mode in play most of the game, so he played a LOT of cards. Incap with Upgrade Mode and the Maintenance Bay in play. Won against Ambuscade; no unlock.
I thought maybe Upgrade Mode would be related in some way. /shrug
I’m just playing every single villain with the Freedom Five vanilla team. I’ve done the core villains and four or five others so far. No luck obviously.
I think this evening I’m just going to start playing Freedom Five games vs Every villian.
I relistened to the Bunker episodes of the podcast and they mentioned how he never really had many Nemesi of his own and really just fought alone the freedom five all the time. So maybe it’s just a number of matches vs a variety of enemies.
The other though I had is maybe it’s related to Sergant Steel and his buddies because the podcast mentions a few of their first apperenaces were in Bunkers book
There is a nagging idea that somehow Freedom tower and blowing up equipment is involved as well just not sure how or who to use for that
Two more random tests:
No unlock from losing a game of Freedom Five VS Vengeful Five.
No unlock from fighting Ambuscade in Freedom Tower, and winning with Bunker as the only surviving hero, with 1 HP remaining.
Maybe have Bunker destroy the maintenance bay by discarding his hand with that one other card?
Tried this. No dice
I'm going to try one where bunker takes as much damage as possible, and survives. If I feel up to it, I might try some more specific variations on this including e.g. he dies, he is the last active hero, he deals the killing blow, he loses first, then wins. I'll probably do it with the freedom five, though that's likely to make the territory more well-traveled.
Another thought occurs to me. Would it even be possible, even against an easy villain like blade or ambuscade, to solo a 5-hero game? That, is, to play a game where all other heroes do nothing? This sounds extremely difficult, and would explain why MigrantP is unsurprised at the lack of success. I suspect, though, that it would be impossible, but perhaps something like this, for example a game where no other hero plays cards or no other player uses powers?
Took a run at this too. Interesting game one baron had all 4 ongoings out it was pretty rough. Revealed the entirety of freedom tower and that had me curious what would’ve happened if I’d won.
Here’s the log
Remember, whatever it is is to be possible, if improbable, to achieve through normal gameplay. They’ll never have you do something like have all other heroes skip their turns, or attack each other, or destroy beneficial cards for no reason.
between this and F6 Bunker, why does it seem like this is the favored hero for "weirdly easy but way overthought" unlocks? like, how long was it before we even had an idea what was needed for the F6 version? and the thought line quite a few people were going was rather way off...
I still feel Progeny is the villain. It was his fight that led to the new Freedom Five. Unfortunately I despise playing against Progeny. If the condition involved a victory Id be hard pressed to accomplish it. If the condition involved a victory and playing every card maybe multiple times that would be impossible for me. My games just dont last long enough against him for that.
I liked where you were going with this one. Maybe do the same as this, but have Bunker be incapped by the end of the fight?
I have another theory that I'm willing to test on Progeny but I'm trying it against Ambuscade first because it's easier. :P
What is it?
OK, my newest thought was "redirect as much damage to Bunker as possible", so I set up Wraith as the lowest HP target with Smoke Bombs out, and had Bunker with Heavy Plating + Turret Mode + 2x Maintenance Unit and left Ambuscade cloaked while Haka ate the rest of his deck. So, every round, Bunker happily soaked up the damage that was sent at Wraith and healed up. No unlock. I figure it might be worth attempting on Progeny? But it would be a lot harder to pull off given how hard it is to indefinitely control Progeny's deck.
Dark Watch Setback kinda break that rule, at least the easiest way to unlock him does. There are a few others they don’t require self damage but are a lot easier if you do it
What, you're saying Setback wouldn't normally let his head be used as a drum-set to help defeat the Operative?
Just spitballing here since I'm too lazy to try it out myself since I'm burned out on Thanksgiving four days before the actual holiday…
But maybe you're onto something here? Reason why I say this is that we know that post-Oblivaeon Bunker and Wrait are taking cute selfies together on Instagram while everyone else rolls their eyes, so maybe having her on the team and interacting with Tyler (like with Smoke Bombs) might be part of the key. Possibly even in Freedom Tower?
Anyone tried goofy things like jamming his entire deck under Omni-Cannon and taking out the villain with that hit?
I have started to mess around with team games, but no luck so far. I am not sure this is the right track at all.
Welp, I have now… I just killed Akash'Buuta with an Omni-Cannon shot, with every single card in my deck (other than the omni-cannon itself) under the omni-cannon, further boosted by about 203 points of critical multiplier from Parse, for a grand total of 280 damage after 2 Mountainous Carapaces.
No unlock. ![]()
That took way too long.
Tried a Multiplayer game with Steam and iphone. No unlock.
F5 vs. Ambuscade in Freedom Tower.
P1 played Bunker, Legacy, Tachyon.
P2 Played AZ and Wraith.
Environment cards: Mission Control, Cryo Chamber, Security Desk
Wasn't going for any shenanigans- just wanted to test the idea that you needed to win a F5 game in multiplayer. If that is a component, there is more to it than simply playing and winning.
Okay, but I salute your dedication! That's pretty fantastic! ![]()
Sorry, Take. I did it by playing meteor Storm from Mars. Did all 39 cards and killed plague rat in one hit. At least I got flawless victory
I also noticed that we haven't even made a guess with specifics once. So I am going to do it even though I know it's probs wrong.
Lose a game to Progeny with regular bunker on the team. Then defeat any villain with bunker as the first hero and super-scientific tachyon on the team. Tachyon must use her base power to reveal two mode cards and put them into play.
There’s not much point making guesses until we have a successful unlock. That one in particular is not all that hard to test.
In other news, I’m more than halfway through the project of beating every villain with the vanilla F5. Didn’t lose once until I got to The Dreamer. I’m currently 0-4 against her and I’m taking a break.
Ok, it can’t be progeny. I’ve gone through the “Progeny Event” first losing to Progeny using the Prime Wardens. I couldn’t remember where they fought him so I just chose Wagner’s since I figured it wasn’t on earth. Then I lost to Progeny using Dark watch in Rook City. I then followed it up with a battle of Freedom Five losing to Progeny in Rook City.No Unlock. Fine, I’m clearly on the wrong track. So I just played a half dozen games vs. Progeny using Bunker and a team of Nightmist for redirecting, Omintron-X for helping bunker get all his cards out and Team Leader Tachyon to help Bunker get through his deck. I played everyone of his mode cards i believe twice if not 3 times as well as pretty much every card he has. In addition Bunker took all the damage from all of Progeny’s scions and progeny. I won the game and lost the game. Bunker was uncapped and he wasn’t incapped. No unlock.
I’m out of ideas. Maybe it is just some random villain/environment combination. Or maybe I just had the wrong team. I choose the 3 heroes to fight with Bunker because they gave me the best chance to fight against Progeny and get out all of bunkers cards.
I'm curious, does anyone know the record for the longest time passed for a variant without a single successful unlock? I feel like this is definitely the longest I've ever seen, but I only got into the whole unlock hunting thing recently (I've participated in most of the hunts since Best of Times CR, but not much before that). I also wonder, Handelabra has metrics and stuff, they know when there has been a successful unlock, I wonder if anyone has managed to unlock it but hasn't said anything, there are definitely more people playing the game than there are communicating on the forums after all, we might just all be unlucky.
Have all three modes in play at once, maybe? Super-Scientific Tachyon in the Time Cataclysm?
Okay, tested a few things: given that all his stuff got blown up during the Oblivaeon event, I tried playing an entire game against Chokepoint in which Termi-nation Bunker destroyed at least one of his own cards every single turn. Also tried haveing Super-Scientific Tachyon play several equipment cards from Bunkers deck several times. No unlock.
Just did this, I actually had all three modes in play when I beat Chokepoint. No unlock. Good thinking though, we are grasping at straws, ridiculously specific conditions are pretty much all we have left to test.
whatabout playing two External Combustions/turn for X turns in a row, redrawing them with ammo drop from your otherwise empty deck/discard? It's a fairly wild thing that Bunker can do under the right circumstances that occurred to me while I was trying other ideas. I started to do it, but the villain was already mostly dead, so I killed him before I got through 3 rounds. Doesn't have much relation to F5 bunkers backstory or abilities, so probably the wrong tree for upward barking.
We've gone nearly a week without even a single accidental unlock?
Cripes. That's just discouraging.
Hey, in Ready Player One, they went five years before anyone found the first key. So as long as it doesn’t take that long, I think we are in good shape! XD
To be fair the price their was billions of dollars and control of the internet.
We are just looking for a digital variant card ![]()
fyi. I tried having Bunker use every one of his incapacitated powers and win a game but that didn’t work
Okay, how many games ahve we palyed where Bunker WASN'T part of the team?
Tested a couple of weird ideas. I essentially used AA's Inventive Preparation and Omniton-X's Timeshift power to simulate F5 Bunker's hero power many times over the course of the game, playing mode cards when I could, stuff like that. I also played a ton of equipment as Bunker, but ended the game with all of it destroyed, to represent the destruction of Freedom Tower and all his suits. No unlock. Any more ideas? I'm fresh out, every logical/lore-based idea I've had hasn't panned out, this unlock condition must be pretty bizarre, if it was anything we could be reasonably expected to do in the course of a game, it'd definitely have happened by now.
More weird ideas: I tried losing a game as the freedom five but without Bunker (just Legacy, Wraith, Tachyon, and AZ), then winning the same game as the full freedom five (sort of a prove why Bunker is an important part of the team thing). Then I tried winning a game as the Freedom Five without bunker (sort of a, if you want it, prove you don't need it) sort of thing. Neither of these worked, no unlock.
Has anyone done any testing on advanced, challenge, or ultimate?
Maybe Ultimate Progeny, or Ultimate Vengeful 5 are required… Doesn’t seem too likely but just wondering if it’s been ruled out.
I think I did beat the Ultimater Vengful Five in Freedom tower with original Team. no unlock.
What if we have to do multiple games. Unlike my other guesses where it's just lose to Progeny first, what if you have too do games like Omni U and eternal haka. If we try doing all of our lore based games but in chronological order.
A couple of us have tried ultimate Progeny with the vanilla F5, that didn’t work.
I did a couple of silly things today (reduce 20 damage with base Bunker’s incapacitated power, a one-round win with TN Bunker vs Gloomweaver) just for laughs, but didn’t get anywhere
Do any of the Bunkers' incap powers let you play cards or use powers? Maybe there's something in winning a game on his incap turn.
Hey, that's a thought. Core Bunker lets a player play a card, GI Bunker lets a player use a power, and Termi-Nation Bunker lets a player destroy a card to play the top two cards of their deck.
If you're talking just unlocking the variant at all, I want to say… A week and a half to two weeks? I could be vastly mistaken though.
If you're talking finding out the unlock conditions? There's been ones where we had no idea, and Handelabra set revealing the unlock conditions as a 'squish goal' for their previous Season 2 Kickstarter…
Edit: We can probably get a tip on the next stream if we don't find anything by tomorrow…
@MindWanderer : I've played the vanilla F5 against every solo Standard villain other than Agent of Gloom Spite and Wager Master by this point, and won against everyone except The Dreamer. And the only thing I've discovered is that I still hate playing against Miss Information and Spite. :P
Heh, I finally beat the Dreamer, but I still have Wrath of the Cosmos, Wager Master, and the promos to go.
My successful try against The Dreamer involved stalling with just one Granite Oni and getting a whole ton of ongoings out so I could dump five and still be in good shape. Heroic Interception, Next Evolution (psychic), Lead from the Front, and Smoke Bombs made it a comfortable win. Was aiming for double Evolutions but did just fine without.
I feel kinda bad saying it, but all this time playing Bunker (I've lost track of how many games it's been) has left me with nothing to show for it other than the destinct impression that Bunker is really kinda... bad.
Not if you get team leader of micro assembler
...OK, if this one-shot is a hint, it's kind of irritating, because it means I was on the right track with one of my early ideas and I might need to re-try it.
I assume that’s “lose to Progeny with the PWs, then…” and the missing detail you didn’t have was Ult?
Worth a try.
Yeah, the problem is the "win in Rook City with Chrono-Ranger, Parse, and KNYFE on Ultimate" part of that theory. I can't find a good opening combination that doesn't result in me getting wrecked and KNYFE being dead in three rounds. Of course, the one time I won on Standard, I won in only a handful of rounds...
Winning with the vanilla F5 is much, much easier than just those three, so I'm hoping I can just do that in Megalopolis instead... but I already tried it and didn't get the unlock. But there's a final step or two I may have done wrong there.
It’s not simply “Lose [the setup in the current One Shot with the Prime Wardens in Tomb of Anubis vs Progeny] then win against (Standard) Progeny in Megalopolis with the Freedom Five.”
Specifics from that latter game: order was Legacy, Wraith, Bunker, Tachyon, and AZ. All vanilla versions. Legs and Tach incapped by the end, AZ death final blow on Progeny’s turn, Bunker only got 2/3 of his modes into play during the game.
Thoughts on this theme: have a Dark a Watch in Rook City (possibly with Scholar present as I think he was mentioned at one point in a LP episode) loss between the two.
Possibility: There were two failed fights we know about.
Prime Wardens
Dark Watch in Rook City. While we don’t have The Harpy, The Scholar was involved in that fight.
Progeny also fights Freedom Five and really harms Tachyon.
Maybe it’s somehow related to those three events?
Well, I retried my ideas, and here's what I did:
- Lose the matchup as shown in the One-shot
- Lose with Dark Watch + Scholar of the Infinite in Rook City vs. Progeny on Ultimate.
- Lose with Legacy/AZ/Bunker/The Sentinels/Dark Visionary in Rook City vs. Progeny on Ultimate.
- Lose with the vanilla F5 in Rook City vs. Ultimate Progeny.
- Win with the vanilla F5 in Megalopolis against Ultimate Progeny. Absolute Zero did cold damage with his final turn and Bunker did Fire damage on his last turn (but not the killshot, I couldn't quite get that worked out). Only Legacy was incapacitated. No unlock.
So I'm some combination of (A) off track, (B) missing something (CR/KNYFE/Parse?), or (C) needing to use regular Scholar instead of Scholar of the Infinite.
I'd say it's scholar.
Ok. So if it is lose to Progeny with the Prime Wardens in tomb of anubis, followed by lose to Progeny with Dark Watch in Rook City, followed be lose to Progeny in Rook City with the Freedom Five. Then it would stand to reason that the final step would be to kick Progeny’s butt with the Freedom Five in Megalopolis where the finally defeated him in the lore. Looks like I had the wrong team and location .
Looks like I need to change where I lost with the Prime Wardens and then go through the other team fights again and finish with Freedom Five winning in Megalopolis.
If those are the steps, I'm doing something wrong - I've beaten Progeny with the F5 in Megalopolis three times over the last few hours (twice making sure Bunker got the final blow) with nothing to show for it.
Which versions of Progeny did you use? I don't think any unlocks have required Advanced or Challenge rules before, but there's always a first time.
Also, what versions of the heroes did you use?
Look up three or four posts, I got into the details of what I've done since the one-shot launched. Since then I tried re-losing the Dark Watch match including regular Scholar and beating Progeny in Megalopolis with the vanilla F5 on Ultimate again, and nothing happened.
Whoops. Sorry.
I constantly amaze myself with how bad I am at reading, considering how much of it I do.
Maybe add that Tachyon needs to be incapped in the final battle of our Ultimate Progeny story quest.
Wasnt Tachyon out before the fight or really early on? Wasn’t Parse there at the end
Maybe the end team must have Parae but not Tachyon? and the game before Tachyon needs to be the first incapacitated
Or maybe Scholar shouldn’t be with the Dark Watch team because he isn’t Dark Watch. Also maybe if it isn’t enough to just win the final battle against Progeny, maybe Bunker needs to do something specific. I’m hoping it doesn’t involve playing or even discarding all his modes more than once. With the FV vs. Progeny I just can’t keep the fight going long enough to get them all, let alone multiple copies let alone consistently winning.
I'm still impressed you won once. (claps)
Agreed. I saw the weekly challenge and I still can't bring myself to try it. I need to give it all one go and not pause in between. I'm going to assume losing this battle is part of the requirements because I don't expect many people to win it on their first try, which leaves a very small pool of people, if any, who are able to check if Bunker can be unlocked without losing to Progeny with the Prime Wardens.
Are we putting our eggs in the “ultimate” basket? I ask because none of the unlocks so far have required beyond standard villains, and requiring ultimate puts a natural unlock well out of reach for a lot of players.
I can now confirm that it is not:
Lose to Ultimate Progeny in the Tomb of Anubis with the Prime Wardens, lose to Ultimate Progeny with the Darkwatch in Rook City, lose to Ultimate Progeny in Rook City with the Freedom Five, and then defeat Ultimate Progeny in Megalopolis with the F5 with Tachyon incapacitated.
Even if the preamble is correct, seems like it would need character specific things. There are four other team members to unlock, after all.
I'm fairly sure it would, but that was a tough match to set anything up with. I won the final match, but couldn't quite set it up for Bunker to get the final hit in, and definitely wasn't going to both win, and get all of the modes out. if the rest is correct, even 'win' is tough enough. But I might try it a few more times when I get the chance.
I agree with something someone said earlier. Maybe the use of Ultimate Progeny in the weekly one-shot was just a hint that the team was supposed to lose.
Ultimate Progeny, to me, is just one of those games you play when you get too cocky and want to remind yourself your not as awesome as you thought as he methodically destroys your entire team.
It’s been a week; if we still haven’t gotten one by the time this week’s comes out, can we get a hint?
Hint?! Bah! Bah, I say! The weekly challenge was out a hint. And if we don't get it in a week, then the next weekly challenge should be another hint. Plus, we'll have another hero to unlock which will likely trigger some new combinations.
Looks like we'll end the fall of the variants with some good challenges.
Data: Freedom 5 in Megalopolis against Progeny. Lots happened and Bunker got the killing blow. No unlock.
You have already received a hint.
I’m trying to figure out if MigrantP is channeling Mister Fixer teaching his student or if he is secretly just a Vorlon.
Or we are on the right track with the first game being Pirme Wardens vs Progeny. Thinking something must happen in that game and then a second game with Bunker must happen. Maybe something will slip during the stream tonight
“it’s really hard” isn’t a hint. It doesn’t tell us what direction to go in. It’s also nothing we didn’t already know.
A hint is something new. Something helpful.
MigrantP would almost certainly have told us if the One-Shot wasn't a hint. Thus, it almost certainly is the hint that MigrantP refers to.
So lets not bite the hand that's feeding us just yet…
Do we know, canonically, who was left standing after the final battle with Progeny? We know that Tachyon was hurt, but was anybody else? Who struck the final blow? Was it KNYFE?
I'm inclined to try one with the F5 ,substitute KNYFE for Tachyon. Try and have her be the only one standing.
Then I'll try the F5, and see if I can end with both bunker and Tach incapped.
I wouldn’t have assumed the one-shot WAS a hint. They’ve never done that before.
That being said… What order were the fights in? Dark Watch in Rook City was before Megalopolis, right?
So what if it’s like,
Lose to Progeny @ Tomb, with Prime Wardens.
Then lose to Progeny @ Rook City with Dark Watch.
Then lose to Progeny @ Freedom Tower with Freedom Five. (To simulate the tower dying)
Then win against Progeny @ Megalopolis with Freedom Five, but with KNYFE instead of Tachyon, everyone dead but her, and her getting the final blow (possibly with Overdo It in play)
Thats not true at all. The weekly one-shots have been used as hints a few different times for unlocks.
We have had a few one-shots that hinted at conditions. Omnitron-U was a multi-week affair, and the weekly one-shots were a big part of that.
Here is what I've tried thus far:
Lose to progeny w/wardens (Tomb, ultimate)
Lose to progeny w/Dark Watch + Scholar (regular, Rook City)
Lose to Progeny w/DW Nightmist, Legacy, Dark Visionary, KNYFE (regular, Pike Chemical)
Win vs Progeny W F5 (all standing, Ultimate, Megalopolis)
Win Vs. Progeny with F5 minus Tachyon, + KNYFE (regular, Overdo it in play at end, KNYFE got killing blow, all others incapped)
Currently fighting vs Progeny w/F5 (regular, megalopolis, intending to have Bunker be only one left standing)
We've even had a one-shot that was a hint as recently as XPW Argent Adept, it really hasn't been that long.
I'm still stymied on Bunker, though there's one more thing I need to re-do to see if it will work. (Also tried my initial idea on Wraith and it didn't work; the lore screamed something to me but it wasn't enough.)
I've now tried:
Lose to (Ultimate) Progeny with the Prime Wardens at the Tomb of Anubis
Lose to (Ult) Progeny with the Darkwatch in Rook City
Lose to (Ult Progeny) with the F5 in Rook City
Beat (Ult) Progeny in Megalopolis with the F5 -- Tachyon incapped, Bunker prevented 2 ipending casualties
Lose to Progeny with the F5 at Freedom Tower
Beat Progeny with the F5 (minus Tachyon, plus Knyfe) in Megalopolis, Bunker got the final blow, and preventing 1 impending casualty. All heroes below 10 hp.
No unlock. Still working on it.
I forgot about the Argent Adept one, but I didn’t have the game when Omnitron-U was happening, so I think you can forgive me for not knowing about that one.
What if it is lose to Regular Progeny with the Prime Wardens anywhere but Rook City or Megalopolis (since Megalopolis was the final battle and they didn’t fight him in Rook City). Lose to Progeny with Dark Watch in Rook City. Lose to Progeny with Freedom Five in Rook City. And finally win against Progeny in Megalopolis with the Freedom Five and Bunker must have played or maybe discarded all or multiple copies of his mode cards.
well, it isn't:
(Lose against Progeny w/multiple teams in multiple locations, as detailed above)
Progeny vs F5, megalopolis
Win with Bunker at 1 HP, every other member incapped (which was a pain to pull off, btw).
According to the ARG, the Progeny battles are:
Prime Wardens lose to him in Algeria (Tomb of Anubis, probably).
Dark Watch + Scholar lose to him trying to keep him out of Rook City (This is before the Harpy is part of the team, although she's there).
Freedom Five + Sentinels + Dark Visionary lose to him in Rook City (Legacy is specifically called as as incapped; Dark Visionary leaves).
Chrono-Ranger, Parse, and Knyfe (and remaining heroes?) "drive him away" from Rook City.
Freedom Five beats him in Megalopolis. Tachyon is incapped, Absolute Zero and Bunker do a lot of damage and Bunker eventually deals the final damage "with an incendiary shell."
Now, I'm not sure how to model all that, but if it really does require us to play out the Progeny event (as the One-Shot seems to suggest), that's what we're doing!
The three Omnitron-U centered One-Shots?
McBehrer already commented that he didn’t have the game around that timeframe.
So I tried to unlock both Wraith and Bunker. I will post Bunker here, and Wraith in the Wraith thread
Here's my Bunker Attempt:
1) I lost to Ultimate Progeny with Prime Wardens in Anubis.
2) I beat Progeny in Megalopolis with Freedom Five.
3) I beat Ambuscade in Temple of Zhu Long (Legacy, Bunker, Team leader Tachyon, Wraith).. Bunker was at 10, then healed to full. I played all his modes (I think…) and prevented a lot of damage. No Unlock.
No unlock.
Attempted:
Prime Wardens vs. Progeny in the Tomb of Anubis, and lost
Dark Watch (Dark Watch versions) + Scholar in Rook City and lost
Legacy, Tachyon, and Bunker + Sentinels and Dark Visionary vs. Progeny in Rook City and lost
Chrono-Ranger, Knyfe, Parse, Absolute Zero and Wraith vs. Progeny in Rook City – 2 games, won one, lost one with Progeny at 10 health for 'drove away'
Freedom Five vs. Progeny in Megalopolis – 2 games, won 1 with Tachyon incapped and Bunker dealt the final blow with grenade launcher, over the game, Bunker discarded all modes to get rid of Hostage Situation and Impending Casualty
second win – Tachyon incapped, Bunker discarded 2 modes for Impending casualty, 1 for hostage situation, Bunker deal the final blow with External Combustion, trying for 'incendary shells'.
In addition to previous games to add in losses for F5 at Freedom Tower, F5 win vs. ultimate Progeny, F5+Knyfe-Tachyon wins
No unlocks – but making the attempts to simulate the progression.
Just for the hell of it, I tried "Lose to Progeny with the Prime Wardens, then lose to Progeny as the Freedom Five minus Bunker, then win against Progeny with the full Freedom Five all at 20+ HP".
That did not do it.
Okay, so the very first line of the oneshot makes a connection between Progeny and this enormous heat from underground.
So, I'm thinking, is that a hint at Magmaria, then?
New run at the Progeny progression.
Okay, beat the weekly challenge with the Prime Wardens, having previously lost it.
Then lost to Progeny in Magmaria with the PW.
Then lost to Progeny in Ultima Primalis with the PW -- to cover the possible 'hot places'
then repeated some of the progression.
Lost again with the Dark Watch versions of the DW vs Progeny in Rook City
Lost vs Progeny with Legacy, Tachyon, and Bunker, plus Sentinels and Dark Visionary in Rook City, Legacy was first incapped.
AZ, Wraith, Knyfe, Parse, and Chrono-Ranger vs. Progeny -- won to drive him off
F5 in Freedom Tower vs. Progeny, lost, Tachyon was first incapped, and he destroyed the environment a couple times over.
F5 vs. Progeny in Megalopolis, won, with Bunker discarding each time to get rid of impending casualty (and hostage situation), with smoke grenades funneling damage towards Bunker. Tachyon incapped. Rest of the team at or below 10. Bunker got the final hit with a massive omni-cannon.
No unlock.
Maybe we need to try winning some of these battles as well. It stretches out the solution space, but try winning and losing each time you do one of these battles before moving on to the next one. That way, you have all your bases covered. So far, there hasn't been a "do this game then immediately do this game right after" unlock condition, so having intermediate games in between shouldn't hurt our solution.
At this point, it would be really nice to hear from MigrantP or Christopher, to give us a hint about what we are missing. We've already "gotten a hint" in the one-shot, and I think that we've narrowed down at least some of the conditions, but we've gone through a LOT of permutations, and interest is starting to die down. If the F5 unlocks are all conditional (like the prime wardens) on unlocking a specific member, then we can't make any headway until we get through the first one... and if they aren't conditional on unlocking Bunker, then a hint would still be appreciated because we are serisouly losing steam, and more variants are coming.
I'm continuing to throw random things at the wall. Unfortunately, if this is a multi-part unlock (and even confirmation or denial of THAT would be a HUGE step), I have no idea if I've fulfilled the initial steps- which means that we may have already figured out the final step in megalopolis, but be missing some crucial detail along the way. Like, what if we need to have Dark Watch and the Scholar lose in Rook City.... but Scion of Blight must be in play when they are defeated? Nightmist must be the last one standing with mist form?
/rant
Progeny Vs. F5 in Megalopolis (I think that this is likely to be a key element)
I decided to try something a little weird- beating Progeny (final blow from Bunker with a Flak Cannon), but having all three mega-computers out (thus unlocking the secret picture from the ARG). Tachyon was incapped.
No unlock.
Next, I want to see if maybe I need to have Tachyon at exactly 1 HP when Progeny is defeated. It makes no sense, but thats kind of where I am right now.
Freedom Five Wraith has been unlockable since Tuesday night and does not require Freedom Five Bunker.
Another hint will be provided on Monday night.
Thank you very much. This is immensely helpful, and lets me (and all of the other variant hunters) know that we can keep trying things with Wraith while the Bunker enigma is slowly unraveled!
I tried against Akash'buta in the Freedom Five Tower with Bunker dealing the killing blow using the omnicannon that had only all of the nine mode cards in it. No luck but a really fun game.
Part of me is getting frustrated that Bunker and Wraith have not been unlocked yet but part of me is loving the fact that I just seem to be getting better at the game with each new try.
I am so conflicted right now.
If the Wraith's unlock is anything to go by, this will require playing out Progeny's canon storyline, losing multiple games to Progeny with different teams and locations (Prime Wardens at the Tomb, Dark Watch at Rook City, maybe the F5 at Rook City) before finally winning against Progeny at Megalopolis with the original (non-variant) versions of the Freedom Five, and Bunker has some specific requirement he has to fulfill during the battle.
That would make this week's one-shot a 'hint' in the sense that it's step 1 of the process. And following that logic, I bet a shiny nickel that tomorrow's new one-shot will be the Dark Watch vs Progeny at Rook City...
I'm pretty sure Bunker's specific requirement is related to the next to last line from the F5 Bunker introduction: "Bunker knows his duty is to protect those who cannot protect themselves, so that is what he does." Maybe halting the environment by playing multiple Adhesive Foams, maybe absorbing some number of total damage with his armor (recharge mode helps), that's all I can really see being super relevant here... unless it's something to do with Smoke Bombs redirecting damage into Bunker some number of times.
I unlocked Wraith after doing all the faffing about losing three times. In the last game, where I was trying to win, Bunker was incapped - I noticed he has an ability to prevent 2 damage to another player. This would fit with his 'realisation he needs to protect his team mates' perhaps it is use that incap a certain amount of times?
Eeep. Honestly if there's three games required for the prerequisite, I'm probably just going to bow out and wait out the next few weeks until everyone's available, and then work on unlocking everyone.
If you do the unlock games previously though, you won't have to do them for every release.
I believe
Because that would be hell
Plus its three loses. So just beat the heck out of each other and quickly lose ![]()
Actually AFAIK in this case you would, since IIRC games don't start counting for a variant's unlock until after the unlock is made available, and this time they're doing it one by one instead of the past whole team at once deal.
Hence why I figure I'm just gonna wait.
Will we have to redo this setup every week? Or will doing it once (since Bunker was turned on) be enough?
ETA: I am guessing every week, since the code to make it "carry forward" seems ... complicated, and could have confused things if we [the community] hadn' figured out the requirements already.
Not too bad, actually. If they all require the same flags, it would just be "check these conditions were unlocked before, then they did <X> during the game"
Uninstalling would likely reset it (since the losses to Progeny are not tracked by, say, an achievement), but it doesn't seem complicated enough to require it every single time.
MigrantP confirmed the prerequisite games won’t have to be repeated for each unlock http://steamcommunity.com/app/337150/discussions/0/1488866180590871498/?tscn=1511808901#c1488866180613152401
Looks more like he just confirmed that player's flags for Wraith's prerequisites will stay after the update. Not anything about whether they'd apply to future unlocks.
Though I'd be happy to be wrong and they changed it from how it used to work.
So, to recap:
All Freedom Five variants require a triple loss: PW against Progeny somewhere other than RC/Megalopolis, DW against Progeny in Rook City, base Freedom Five team against Progeny in Rook City.
There is also speculation that the last piece involves a win against Progeny in Megalopolis with the base Freedom Five, but that has not been explicitly confirmed. (It's certainly how I unlocked FF Wraith.)
FF Wraith's unlock suggests that Trust Fund is, if not strictly required, extremely helpful in unlocking FF Wraith--which ties into the description for FF Wraith ("most of her excess funds"), or FF Wraith's ability (whenever you draw, you may discard to let someone else draw).
FF Bunker's description refers to protecting those who cannot protect themselves. This suggests a connection to the various Environment cards in Megalopolis (discard to destroy Impending Casualty, the Monorail, &c.)--this of course depends on whether the "must defeat Progeny in Megaliopolis as the final game" condition is true.
Alternatively, FF Bunker's ability...is not something I believe is represented in any of his deck.
Here'll be my next test:
Complete the prerequisites [Done!]. Then, defeat Progeny in Megalopolis with the base Freedom Five. Bunker must discard to destroy Impending Casualty three times.
That's not how I read that; I have to believe that one reason to have loaded all of the unlocks into the code, such that they aren't requiring an update each week, is that they can set some flags (like the three prerequisites) even before the unlock is available.
Either way, losing to Progeny with those teams is pretty fast. Put him on Ultimate and don't do a darn thing. After 2-3 turns, you're good to go! Not ideal, but super easy to do.
Doing it once is enough.
Awesome - thanks MigrantP for the response :)
Now I feel like actually getting those losses in so I can help with the hunt
OK, I stand (sit?) happily corrected, and feel better about pitching in.
Still no luck. I'd long since done the pre-req games, and got Wraith unlocked.
Tried ever definition for protecting innocents I could.
Had Bunker discard 5 times to get rid of impending casualty, he was the one to destroy targeting innocents, 5x discarded to get rid of hostage situation.
Also set it up so he was high hp, and stayed that way, to reflect lots of damage to him from lower hp teammates via Wraith's smoke bombs.
Still working on it.
Yeah, thank goodness they're all losses. "Lose against a hard villain in a hard environment? Sure, I can do that!"
I did the prerequisite games, then tried Freedom Five against Progeny in Megalopolis. I had bunker use Adhesive Foam Grenade and Decommissioned Hardware 3 times each in the game. Otherwise, there was a lot of Medical Units and a lot of Flak Guns. One External Combustion. Heroes won. No unlock.
Things I’ve tried:
I’ve unlocked F5 Wraith, so I know I’ve got the prereqs done.
All of these were done in Megalopolis, with the F5 vs progeny.
1. Environment focused game: Progeny destroyed 0 environment cards. Bunker played 3x foam grenade. Bunker got finishing blows on all targets in Megalopolis, discarded cards for each event that required discards.
Possible problem: used RC Wraith to help Speed up cards.
2. Heal/tank game. Bunker spent multiple rounds as lowest hero, getting hit by Progeny. Then healing to make Progeny flip, then repeat again and again.
No unlock.
Current testing: win with multiple bad enviro cards in play (targeting innocents, impending casualty, etc).
I win a nickel!
Hmmm. Is everyone trying in Megalopolis at this point? Maybe it should be Freedom Tower after all, just after the prereqs are done and all that?
Tried letting Progeny destroy every mode card, and 5 total, plus discards for impending casualty and other environment-related discards. Also kept each mode on for at least three turns. And while inflicting 100+ damage. (Scion of frost x2 up for part of that.)
All no luck, but was able to get him into a total lock-down with takedown, all cards drawn, and Bunker freezing the environment, eventually, to try stuff. With the pre-reqs known, if the unlock battle is all going to be different permutations of F5 vs. Progeny in Megalopolis, someone is bound to get it before too long.
If I have the time and patience, and it's still not unlocked post work this week, I may try it in Freedom Tower, and let him demolish both Bunker's 'suits' and the environment.
So I've been thinking: aside from the Auxiliary Power Sources, Bunker has four cards in his deck that grant him powers. If you were to destroy all those Power Sources to get an extra power use, you could use all of them in one turn. Maybe that could be it? I'm going to test it now.
EDIT: Well, that doesn't seem to be it, unless I've done something wrong. I haven't missed any of the prerequisites, because I actually unlocked F5 Wraith at the end of the game. No log since I'm on IOS, but no modes were in play at the end, if that helps.
Maybe it is based on the events here: https://greaterthangames.com/harbinger and so maybe involves bunker using external combustion (his only internal source of fire damage I think) or grendade launcher while scion of frost is in play.
Oh, I've tried all sorts of permutations on the elemental form changing / Bunker deals the last blow thing. I guess it can't be ruled out, but if it were that simple, I'm sure someone would have unlocked it by now.
Ashcarr on the Steam forums has confirmed that Wraith does not require Progeny. Maybe Bunker doesn't either. I tried some stuff by locking down Gloomweaver this morning, including playing double External Combustion out of Upgrade Mode to finish the match, but didn't get the unlock.
No unlock:
Fugue Parse, RC Wraith, Bunker vs. Ambuscade in Rook City.
Bunker soaked damage meant for Tony and Tremata for many turns. Bunker soaked damage meant for lowest HP heroes many times. Bunker played foam grenade 5 times.
Ashcarr on the Steam forums has confirmed that Wraith does not require Progeny.
That is a bug and will be fixed as soon as possible.
Tried Freedom Five vs. Progeny in Megalopolis. Destroyed Progeny with a 39 card omni-cannon. No unlock.
I also didn't unlock Wraith in this game, either, and I played 3 Trust Funds and had a load of equipment out. I'm sure I did the prerequisite games, but getting Wraith would let me feel 100% confident these Bunker games are valid for information.
Huh - it's kind of interesting that Progeny's forms don't actually do that. Scion of Frost doesn't protect him particularly from cold damage or weaken him to fire. In fact, Absolute Zero is more likely to have the power to punch through Scion of Frost than Bunker, discounting Omni-Cannon.
I was thinking the same thing this morning. But on the other hand, the form cards have so many mechanics packed in already, it's not like they need more game effects.
Has anyone tried the “Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing” approach?
Can confirm that approach (combined with Bunker discarding for every available opportunity, including 3 Impending Causalities) was not enough.
Looking at FV Bunkers power it involves his modes and playing other hero’s cards. I still think the unlock has something to do with his modes. I also kinda think it has something to do with him doing something he normally wouldn’t be able to do on his own which is kinda what he’s doing with his new power.
If that’s the case, it wouldn’t come from his own deck. It would need to be something either another hero, villain, or environment card would let him do. He can already draw, play and use extra powers on his own. What can’t he do that another deck would let him do?
Tried the “elemental combo” approach: With both Scion of Flame and Scion of Frost out, had AZ deal cold damage and immediately follow with double Combustion from Bunker for the win. No unlock. I’ll see if I can try it again with only Frost out, maybe double Frost, but that could get tedious to set up and annoying to try to win in that state.
Hmm. On doing something Bunker can’t normally do on his own, the only card I can see that would allow him to do something different is Close Quarter Combat from the environment which allows him to do a damage type, melee, he normally wouldn’t be able to do on his own. Gonna try cycling through all his modes and hope the game lasts long enough to try and punch Progeny with Bunker. Oh, and win. That last part being the hardest.
We're assuming this has to be a game with the base freedom 5 against Progeny in Megalopolis. If any of that isn't true, the list of things other decks can help him do that he couldn't normally do is expanded. I'm pretty convinced of the progeny part at least, since MigrantP confirmed that Progeny is required for the F5 wraith unlock, so consistency would imply that it's required here as well. But if, for instance, variants of the freedom 5 are allowed, Super Scientific Tachyon could play a mode card from the bottom of Bunker's deck. I can imagine "Bunker must play a mode card from somewhere other than his hand" as a condition simulating F5 Bunker's power.
Beating Progeny with Combustion while Frost was the only villain card in play didn’t do it.
Has anyone tried dealing 5 instances of damage to progeny in a single turn with Bunker? It would go as follows:
In Play:
Auxilliary Power Source, Gatling Gun, Flak Cannon, Grenade Launcher, Omni-Cannon, Upgrade Mode all in play
Start of Turn:
Gatling Gun hits progeny
1st card:
External Combustion
2nd card:
Turret Mode
Powers:
Flak Cannon, Grenade Launcher, Omni-Cannon
You could even get to 6 instances of damage if Tachyon has Synaptic Interruption in play, or 8 with 3 synaptic interruptions, smoke bombs, Galvanize, Inspiring Presence and the exact right configuration of hp.
I was about to suggest a game in which only Absolute Zero and Bunker actually deal damage to Progeny, but while it's totally feasible to have them do all of the work burning down his HP, I don't know if it's possible to win without hitting Progeny with Hypersonic Assault, Throat Jab, or Stun Bolt. It would certainly be extremely difficult.
Well whatever it is, it certainly could be extremely difficult, since we've gone two weeks without a single unlock.
True, but we also just recently confirmed the pre-reqs.
If we make it to NEXT tuesday wihtout an unlock, then I'll worry.
Though, honestly, I'm kind of getting bored with beating Progeny in Megatropolis with the FV.
You and me both.
At the very least we're all getting more and more used to fighting Progeny.
honestly, I'm having difficulty getting the Trust Funds played fast enough for Wraith (assuming they even come up).
I usually restart the game if she doesn’t start with at least one.
That's probably a good idea.
I had one where she started with 2 of them.
And then I lost that game because I couldn't play cards for several turns.
Edit: I also wish there was a "play this game again" button when you win.
When I unlocked the Wraith I played trust fund 3 turns in a row, but I don’t think that is necessary. It did slow me down alot though.
Have we tried having Bunker be the one to discard anytime a hero needs to discard?
Yeah that’s what I did, during my “LWBDAN” (Luigi Wins By Doing Absolutely Nothing) run.
Got some hints from Christopher. I’ve been banging my head up against them for a while, with no luck. Maybe someone else will figure out the secret!
1. It’s not about how you defeat Progeny, it’s about how you fight him.
2. There are 2 parts that have to happen in the same fight.
3. The first part has to do with sacrificing for your allies (but not health). The second has to do with what Bunker is doing to switch Progeny’s form in the ARG.
4. For BOTH of the halves, you’ll need the help of Megalopolis.
Here is what I’ve tried, unsuccessfully.
1. Having the environment kill Progeny, via monorails, cops, or redirecting damage from Targeting innocents (via Synaptic interruption or bouncing back as cold with AZ)
2. Having Bunker discard for/destroy every environment target or card.
3. Winning with 3 Impending Casualties in play, never having gotten rid of them and using mega computers to mitigate the damage from leaving them out.
4. Winning with every Environment Target in play.
5. Playing 5 foam grenades, destroying 5 ongoings, 5 equipments, and discarding 5 cards.
I’ll keep trying various things as I think of them. Hope these help someone get the unlock!
Um, in the ARG, Bunker doesn't do anything to switch Progeny's form. Progeny turns into Frost because AZ hits it with cold. Presumably it would become Flame when hit with fire (but not apparently when it's already Frost), but that doesn't actually happen in the ARG. Progeny only changes form twice in the ARG: once to defend against AZ's cold, and once as an opening move against the Prime Wardens. Megalopolis only has two cards that can even affect Progeny: Police Backup and Plummeting Monorail. Maybe Cramped-Quarters Combat or Rooftop Combat, interpreted generously. None of any of this seems applicable.
As for sacrifice due to the environment, we've been playing around with that already. Presumably he has to discard to feed various environment cards, Impending Casualty being the obvious one (since Bunker can be the only one to discard), but Paparazzi and Hostage might also count. Bunker could also lose an Ongoing to Impending Casualty instead, which seems like an odd choice since others would also be affected, but might explain why no one's gotten the unlock yet since that's almost always a dumb move.
Beyond that, Bunker isn't (for example) Absolute Zero or Tachyon, who could have reactions go off using the environment. I sat in the Multiverse section trying to interpret #3 in conjunction with #4 and it's just not making sense to me at all.
Well at least now we know for sure Progeny and Megalopolis are required. Sacrificing for your allies (but not health) that you'll need the help of Megalopolis has got to be some form of "whenever the environment makes players discard/destroy a card, Bunker must do so." As far as doing something to switch Progeny's form that we need help from the environment for, the best I can think of with the few things that Megalopolis can actually do is that we have to hit Progeny with a lot of (H+1?) sources of damage and/or types of damage.
Maybe bunker has to destroy every single card in the environment deck. Maybe twice, but he has to do it himself.
I was just playing on Megalopolis against Progeny using the freedom five. I'm not as hard core into this as you guys, but right now, on the same turn progeny put his second frost form into the field, Legacy healed the team with motivational charge. Tachyon is currently incapped and Legacy, Wraith and bunker were at 9 health. AZ was at 19. This heal brought them to 10, 10, 10, and 20. As I did so, Bunker's portrait changed color (it looks paler? like being looked at through wax paper?). Anyone know if this has to do with anything? This was also the turn that progeny reshuffled his deck and the turn after bunker discarded a card to remove impending casualty. All of them are base characters.
Also, during this game, I may have accidentally used Adhesive Foam Grenade in the same round thanks to Tachyon's incap, but I'm not certain. Figured I should mention that, just in case.
I'm a little afraid to continue this game in case it turns out I need to do one more thing to unlock him and I'll need to get lucky to get everything like this again.
I had the same thing happen in a game earlier today - I have no idea why, but it didn't amount to anything.
I'm just wondering if we did the first of the two things required to unlock him. They said there was a second part involved, yeah? Did anything I mentioned seem to line up with what you did?
Unfortunately all of my games are blending together, and at that point in the day I was actively trying stuff with Tachyon, not Bunker. I can't remember what Bunker was doing in that game, sorry.
I also just noticed, the order they were healed meant Bunker was the last one brought up to 10 from 9.
Wait a sec! the environment turn WASN'T impending casualties. I remember now. It was Targetting innocents, but I sent the fire damage to AZ and redirected it to destroy the card. Not sure if it made the environment draw impending casualties anyway, but if it did, Bunker discarded to remove it.
Didn’t Progeny change forms based on the damage he was taking? At least with the AZ example above.
Maybe it isn’t so literal as matching exact damage type to scions in Progeny’s deck. Since Bunker can only do Projectile, Fire, and Energy damage. Maybe its doing 4 types of damage to Progeny by Bunker which in theory would cause him to shift forms, if not in the game at least in the story. 4 types because there are 4 scion cards and because a 4th type would require the help of the environment through Close Quarter Combat for melee and sounds sadistic enough to be a Christopher unlock condition.
Well, I tried a game in which I made sure to deal all four types of damage Bunker can do, but if that's a component, it must have to match up to the elemental forms somehow - I didn't get the unlock. Obviously fire would go up against ice, but otherwise that seems like a guessing game I really don't want to start playing.
I also spent that game making Bunker discard for everything possible - every time Scion of Blight triggered, two Impending Casualties, and one Hostage Situation. So maybe I killed Progeny too fast. :P
I nearly killed everyone by trying to let Bunker destroy as many ongoings as possible to Impending Casualty, and leaving Targeting Innocents out for a while so I could feed a mess of discards to it as well. Very tough game, ended with Bunker at 6 HP and everyone else at 1 or 2. Then finished off Progeny with External Combustion while two Scions of Frost were out. No dice.
The natural extension of that would be to put out lots of Mega Computers so we can ignore Impending Casualty and just keep feeding ongoings to it, but that's a stretch, and I still have no idea what the idea with Progeny's forms is supposed to be, unless it's just "deal 4 different types of damage to Progeny."
Man, I hate this. Like, I understand the whole “it’s a puzzle” thing, but no one’s got it in over 2 weeks. And it’s one of the most annoying environments in the game, and one of the top 5 hardest villains. (At least it’s not Miss Information, but that’s a small blessing.) I just want to know how to do it already!
At least we're using the freedom five and not Dark Watch. I cannot, for the life of me, get them to work well together.
Agreed. If anything, this has shown me why Freedom Five are so good. I consider it trivial to defeat Progeny with the Freedom Five. It's never even come close in any of my games. I don't see it that annoying yet since at least we have Wraith and Tachyon to chase after at the same time.
I suspect it's that bunker has to eat the discard EVERY time it's possible – environment or Blight. Which is … ow. Painful. Gonna have to keep those Blights off the board as much as I can, if that's the rule.
For the other half of the requirement, I was thinking maybe it requires Progeny to be Impaled and then eat two Combustions in one turn (via Upgrade Mode) but I can't see how the environment would impact that. Maybe do it while the paparazzi are watching.
Well, destroying all three modes and two Drops to Impending Casualty and dealing all four types of damage didn’t do it. Had all three Casualties out, too. He didn’t do a whole lot of any one type of damage, but he did deal at least 5 of each.
...Hmm. Maybe...Maybe the only damage Bunker is allowed to do to Progeny while it's in its ice form is fire? Or maybe he has to get the killing blow while Progeny is iced, and it has to be with Combustion?
Yeah, the Dark Watch are pretty terrible as a team, they lack any meaningful synergy. Which is, actually… accurate, in the lore. The whole Darkwatch story is about them falling further and further apart until Faultless kind of puts them all back together.
The four characters work a lot better with their standard variants, or standard variants except DW Fixer. DW Fixer is really strong, and a lot less painful with standard Setback and Expat's increased cardplay to get Setback's ongoings and Expat's ammo out for Fixer to eat. It's still a REALLY card-hungry group (Nightmist's Enlightenment isn't strong enough or common enough to help much, and Setback's card draw is inconsistent) but it works, at least better than the full DW team. I'm interested to see how adding Harpy (or replacing DW Nightmist) alters that balance.
My guess is Play the prereqs and then beat Progeny with FV Bunker and the rest of the FV heroes.
Good luck unlocking that.
Ok if it’s not just dealing 4 different types of damage alone, what if it also involves discarding his modes. The Hint from Christopher implied it was a personal sacrifice from Bunker. What bigger sacrifice than to destroy(discard) his armor (modes)? Possibly even every copy of them
He has 3 of each right? Maybe it’s a combination of discarding all his modes AND dealing the 4 types of damage.
Without further hints I’m at a loss.
Well, it's not "Discard each mode in the same round, switching above and below 10 health to make Progeny flip."
So, based upon the clues we have, and knowing that we need the environment's help for both parts, my thoughts:
1. Have Bunker sacrifice X cards to Progeny /and/ the environment effects.
2, Bunker can do 4 possible damage types. What if he not only has to do all 4, but do them when Progeny is in the correct form?
i.e. must do fire when Progeny is in ice form, and find the right times to do melee, projectile, and energy vs specific forms, or at least fire vs. ice, and physical vs. something?
yup. We have an unlock on Steam and it's exactly what I was afraid of. Poor Bunker and his overly convoluted conditions. Good luck nailing this one down, folks.
At Least F6 was easy, even if we didn't actually know what was triggering the unlock.
Yeah, at some point, flailing around fruitlessly in the dark just isn't fun anymore.
I mean, has anyone even accidentally unlocked it yet?
At this rate, I'm more or less in the, "I'll just wait till I can just push a button" camp.
We have one confirmed unlock. Looking at the log I’m wondering if it may just be a combo of discards and doing a large amount of melee damage. Will have to experiment today
WW2 Bunker wasn’t hard either. Just play all three modes in one game.
I can’t look at the log at the moment. How many Mode cards did he discard? I still think that is the sacrifice piece of the puzzle.
Could someone maybe copy the log and unlock screen here?
Data: Did at least 10 of all 4 possible damage types and had Bunker discard for every possible opportunity. No unlock.
Had bunker discard at every opportunity and load up an omni-cannon to full except for the cannon, a plating, and two healing units. Fired it for the kill after letting progeny play each different card in his deck. Close quarters was active on the firing turn, so it was melee damage. He only dealt melee damage this game.
No unlock
On a side note, Freedom Five Wraith is great for letting bunker discard at every opportunity while still loading the cannon.
Had Bunker deal 10 of every type of damage and discard each unique mode card once to Impending casualty… no unlock.
Also, Bunker dealt no melee to Progeny with Blight in play, no energy with lighting, no fire with flame. and no projectile with Frost.
Used all base forms of heroes.
OK!
I just got it, and I’m pretty sure I’ve got the missing component.
The key for Bunker is damage rotation. It doesn’t matter what form Progeny is in, what Bunker has to do is constantly be changing damage types.
I saved all the civilians, discarding mode cards preferentially (not sure if that is a component). I sacrificed equipment to the Beginning of the End, though I couldn’t manage to get Bunker to pay for a full 5 equipment sacrifice in one go.
For the damage rotation, I shifted types every time, never attacking with the same type twice. I didn’t worry about form (I used projectile against ice, fire against fire, energy against storm, etc). If I couldn’t switch types, I drew cards or healed until I could do so.
There were several turns where I used the same type within that turn (Fire, projectile, energy, projectile).
Hope this helps.
What characters was the person who got the unlock playing with? Is there a screenshot? My gut is telling me it has to be with the other members of the Freedom Five using their non-variant character cards.
I wish I could reliably beat Progeny to test this stuff out. Unfortunately, much like Omnitron for some reason, he consistently hands me my behind. It’s those Damn can’t play cards followed by destroy all your stuff followed by 2 scions of frost followed by can’t play cards followed by destroy all your stuff I just can’t get past.
How many copies of his mode cards did you discard?
What do you mean "ner same damage type twice"?
Finally, some progress! At least we havr something to test now.
I discarded multiple copies of each mode card, but specifically discarded 1 of each type for the civilians.
I used the full F5 (base versions).
Here is how to consistently win against Progeny.
START
Make sure Wraith starts with an eyepiece or an impromptu invention.
Make sure AZ starts with a null-point, so he can help tank
If you don’t start with these things, reset.
EARLY GAME
If Legacy starts with any other powers, great. You want to get to a point where he can make himself immune to energy damage and redirect it to protect the others.
Prioritize Wraith getting dual eyepieces, so that you have greater deck control. It also raises the chance she will get a throat jab.
Once Wraith has a Throat Jab, KO Tachyon. Her ability to put cards from trash to hand makes sure that you can throat jab every round.
If the environment plays Rooftop Combat, keep it in play until you are fully set up. Hypersonics/Throat jab as needed. If not, you WILL hit one of those turns where the environment and Progeny combine to lock you out of doing anything for multiple rounds. It sucks, which is why I prioritize eyepieces and next evolution/lead from the front, so I have a better chance of avoiding it/surviving it.
MID GAME
If Progeny or the Environment card locks you before you have the setup to rank indefinitely, you need to make a judgement call and reset or try and take the hit. If I have the stuff in hand to get the immunity/damage prevention combo, then I’ll usually take the hit.
My Legacy turns often consist of making myself immune to Energy damage, then motivationally punching AZ. He then heals on his turn.
If Progeny resets you too much with an unexpected Beginning of the End, reset. I try and avoid this with dual eyepieces and liberal use of the rewind button, but it can happen.
LATE GAME
Remember that “the inevitable” discards anything that it reveals that isn’t an ongoing, and “form of the harbinger” discards anything it reveals that isn’t a Scion card. This is a great way of getting rid of clumps of stuff that you’ve been shoving to the bottom of the deck via eyepiece.
First of all, Wraith's scope is fantastic for fighting progeny.
Second, I tried rotating damage. Beat him too quickly to get more than one rotation off (melee, projectile, energy, fire, in that order). Didn't have time to discard every mode card, but I did make sure that bunker discarded whenever there was a choice. No luck. Gonna keep trying.
Third, he means that he's not doing fire damage one turn and fire damage the next turn too, etc.
An unlock on Steam has Bunker discarding an Auxiliary Power Generator, two Upgrade Modes, and a Recharge Mode to Impending Casualty, but never a Turret Mode. So discarding all three mode cards is not required, and I suspect discarding modes is not required either. (Said unlock also had a Beginning of the End that destroyued no equipment at all, Bunker's or others, so an active "Bunker must lose 5 Equipment to BotE" is definitely not present.)
A reminder: Christopher's comments say there are two halves to Bunker's unlock game: one is "sacrifice for your allies, but not health," and two is "how Bunker switched Progeny's form in the ARG," and we'll need Megalopolis's help with both.
Here's my thought:
Part one is almost certainly "Bunker must discard to every Impending Casualty." I suspect there's nothing more to that (no "modes if you got 'em"). It coudl also be "must discard to at least three ICs," or else, both.
Part two is proabbly where Braithwaite's "damage rotation" point comes in. The point of the "like in the ARG" comment is, I suspect, that when AZ hit Progeny with ice, Progeny shifted himself to ice...at which point Bunker hit Progeny with something else.
Bunker can deal fire, projectile, energy, and (thanks to Close Quarters Combat) melee damage.
So.
Complete the prerequisites. Then, win against Progeny in Megalopolis with the Freedom Five. Bunker must discard to [this is either all "Impending Casualties that appear," "at least three Impending Casualties," or both]. Each turn that Bunker damages Progeny, Bunker must use a different damage type than the last time Bunker damaged Progeny.
With a possibility of "must deal X damage of each of the four types."
Time for some testing!
Bunker needs to change damage types every time he attacks. Don’t use a Flak Cannon (projectile), and then use a grenade launcher (also projectile). Don’t use a Flak Cannon one turn, then a Flak Cannon again the next turn (because that would be repeating projectile damage), unless the environment is Close Quarters Combat, because then you would be using a new type of damage (melee).
I tried to rotate between Flak (projectile) and Omnicannon (energy) on most turns. When I had an External combustion, I would use it. If I had multiple copies of external combustion in hand, I would make sure NOT to play them back to back (via upgrade mode).
When Close Quarters Combat is in play, Remember that it switches everything to melee, so you need to use only 1 damage dealing card or power.
Does that make more sense?
There's an unlock log that disproves that on Steam: https://pastebin.com/eGyDKLTv Bunker uses Projectile several turns in a row.
(Yes, it got posted just as I was writing up my thoughts above.)
Could it just be hit Progeny with 4 different types of damage? That would be why we need Megalopolis's help on this- to get the melee damage component.
If I did it properly, that log file shows Bunker discarded 28 cards, drew 94, and used 28 powers. Can it be the following?
"Play the prerequisite games. Fight Progeny in Megalopolis and have Bunker draw 20 cards, use 20 powers, and discard 20 cards. he may not be incapacitated.
I'll try and test it tonight.
Yeah, I'm thinking it's "minimum X damage of each of the four types," as the unlock log I linked shows over 10 of all four.
Do you think it might be a rotation with AZ instead of with himself?
Almost certainly not, per Christopher's hints.
The unlock log I linked shows exactly one rotation with AZ: on one early round, AZ hit for cold and then Bunker hit for fire. That's literally the only time all game that AZ dealt Progeny damage.
It's possible, but I wouldn't wager on it.
I will say that one unknown that we need resolved is whether you can have any Freedom Five variants on your team (say, Wraith).
We're assuming (with cause!) that after the prerequisite games, you need to beat Progeny in Megalopolis with the Freedom Five. It would be useful to know whether that's "with the base variants of the Freedom Five" or with any variants, or with base or FF only.
Where did he post these hints?
Page six of this forum posted by Braithwhite.
Braithwhite's advice is pretty good. I'll just add some extra tips and modifications. I have never reset a game yet, and I've won them all. (I mean the latest ones against Progeny- not every game I've played)
Dual Eyepieces on Wraith is key for deck control. After that, you want Smoke Bombs. Everything else is just a bonus and you're just trying to draw cards to make sure you have Throat Jabs available on the off chance you need them.
Tachyon can cycle through her deck like nobody's business. I stick Push the Limits out and then let it die next turn just to get the extra card draw. Research Lab is great for cycling through the deck. Fleet of Foot and Nimble Attack do the same. Once I get going, with her 3 Hypersonic Assaults in the deck, I can have her nullify Progeny's damage every turn. On the rare times it doesn't happen, Wraith and Legacy are able to take over. Don't worry about keeping a trash full of bursts, just use her to keep Progeny off balance. Both Wraith and Tachyon nullify any ongoing or environment cards that stay out for a turn.
Legacy plays Lead from the Front and makes himself the lowest hp target when Smoke Bombs are in play. This gives everyone the benefit of smoke bombs and shunts all the damage to the highest hp targets. Bunker and Absolute Zero are best due to armor and healing. This is for the times when you can't play cards and need to eat Progeny's damage for a turn. This also lets you use Heroic Interception as another version of Throat Jab/Hypersonic Assault since all damage is shunted away from Legacy. Bolster Allies is good to give everyone cards. If possible, Next Evolution is used to become immune to Energy, but Motivational Charge is also decent. Take Down, as always, is great, especially since Progeny can't deal damage most of the time.
Absolute Zero has some ongoing Destruction. Bunker has some environment control. Otherwise, these two are just there as tanks- to take damage and hit back. Their equipment and ongoings are sacrificed to keep Wraith and Legacy set up well, and even Tachyon somewhat, though she recovers much faster. Wraith and Legacy want an extra equipment (Wraith) and ongoing (Legacy) in play in case they are forced to sacrifice one.
For Progeny, the lightning form is the worst. Never let it out. The rest of the forms are fine, but I avoid blight just to avoid discards. Progeny won't deal damage hardly ever and because of that, you can easily build up power and hit him down, so the ice and fire forms are negligible. I also usually nuke his ongoings just to avoid having to destroy my cards.
This setup practically gives me a lock and by the time Progeny gets a lucky End of Days or prevents me from playing cards, I have a tonne of cards laid out and high health so it's not an issue.
I think there is a minimum discard to impending casualties because I did over 10 damage each with all 4 damage types and did not get the unlock.
I just parsed the log and what I see is:
Bunker did 4 different types of damage to Progeny.
Bunker at one point had everyone of his modes, all 3 copies of each, in his trash.
Are there any other logs so I can see if the same is true for each of them?
Well, here's a fail log from a very long game. The other thing I had noticed about that one success log we got was that Bunker dropped below 10 HP and then was raised above 10 HP again. Since this causes Progeny to flip, I thought it was worth a shot. No luck.
However, I did have Bunker deal only 2 Energy damage and 5 Fire damage (2 of it to himself). This could have a lot of little fiddly bits that all need to fall into place....
I just tried having bunker have all his modes in the trash and dealing each type of damage. This didn't do it. However, no one went below ten. I think going under and over 10 has to do with the conditions. Can we confirm this happens in the successful logs?
I apologize if this was said, and I'm just not seeing it, but Bunker does assist in helping shift Progeny's form in the final battle by firing high temperature explosives at him while he's in his ice form.
Maybe that phase of the unlock involves attacking first with Absolute Zero while Progeny has Scion of Frost out and then Bunker needs to attack with Grenade Launcher and/or External Combustion in order to finish him off?
Also, how long do you think before they make an edgy, brooding Guise who's unlocked by waiting at a defeat screen for a certain amount of time? Probably not gonna happen, seeing as Oblivaeon's a sort of finale, yeah?
Sorry, one of the successful ones only had AZ attack Progeny the first turn and not since. I think they said they used "External Combustion" after AZ did damage, though.
Just tried having all mode cards in the discard pile, letting progeny flip multiple times due to Bunker's health and using 4 types of damage. Admittedly, I only did 3 melee damage.
No Variant
granted, they were only all in the discard pile at the end due to them all being in the omni-cannon, which I fired to get the necessary energy damage. Bunker did not discard for every impending casualty.
I see three success logs on Steam. Here you go, parse away!
https://pastebin.com/eGyDKLTv
https://pastebin.com/N2jDsYVL
https://pastebin.com/EDm7JkVL
I got the unlock.
A long game of Legacy pulling damage only to have smoke bombs redirect it to Absolute Zero.
Bunker discarded for all three Impending Casualties.
And Bunker did a fair amount of projectile, melee, fire and energy.
I hope this log file helps.
I just went through all 3 and in all 3 I see
If there is another piece I don’t see it yet.
Bunker always discards to Casualty, and at least three times, but does not always discard to Scion of Blight.
Same with this one. 4 types of damage, and at least 3 copies of each mode in the trash.
I’m going to guess that its:
I can confirm that I met all these prerequisites except for non-variant and did not get FFB.
Actually after looking at the logs again and noticing the shuffling I’ll revise 4 to say
4. Bunker must have discarded or destroyed 3 copies of each mode card.
Revise 2 to say
2. Win a game against Progeny with all 5 of the members of the Freedom Five, non-variant, in Megalopolis.
I attempted this. There may be a minimum amount of damage of each type. I only did 3 projectile damage, but I met the rest of the prerequisites. No dice.
When you did the pre-reqs did you do them in the following order:
I remember reading early on a lot of people were adding a 5th guest member to the Dark Watch roster for the Dark Watch pre-req and fighting against Advanced or Challenge mode Progeny and not standard Progeny.
Just want to eliminate any possible missteps along the way.
If that's the same as the order for FF Wraith, then yes.
I just did it again following the prerequisites and dealing a considerable amount more damage of all types. Still no unlock. Even cycled the entire environment deck and Bunker's deck this time. Maybe the modes can't be destroyed in the omni-cannon ie: they have to be discarded. Likewise, maybe the prerequisites are mostly right, but you need to discard a different mode card for every impending casualty.
Where would I find the game log if I have SotM downloaded to a different drive than drive C (windows 10)? I went into the handelabra folder and into sentinels, but the only files in there were titled "News"
I thought we were pretty sure Impending Casualties was part of this. Destroyed/undestroyed modes may also be a part, but discarding to Impending Casualties should definitely be on the list.
My plan is to wait a month for the auto-unlock, but that’s admittedly because I sincerely dislike three of the Prime Wardens and don’t want to unlock them so they can waste my time in random selects.
This advice might not answer your question in the spirit it was intended, though.
I've been discarding for impending casualties the entire time. I'm just not sure if you need to discard specific cards for them. How does that check out with the logs?
Here's my most recent fail log. I have Wraith, so I got the prereqs for sure.
Now that we actually have an idea what we're doing with Bunker, I gave it a try. And failed. https://pastebin.com/3zmvZFvL
Prereqs are definitely done correctly because I have FF Wraith.
Bunker did 13 Projectile, 13 Energy, 17 Fire, and 20 Melee damage to Progeny and I also did the damage cycling even though I think that's been disproven.
Bunker dealt the final blow with Internal Combustion while Scions of Frost and Flame were out right after Absolute Zero had dealt Progeny cold damage.
Discarded for all 3 Impending Casualties and every Scion of Blight.
Ended the game with every single mode card in the trash (although all 9 of them had been Omni-Cannon ammo).
Only cards he played were Ammo Drop, Recharge Mode, Omni-Cannon, Flak Cannon, External Combustion, Maintenance Unit, and Heavy Plating.
I think (and hope) the reason my try failed was that I used FF Wraith and Team Leader Tachyon, because I was trying to test if you're allowed to use variants. Hopefully the rest of my game holds up to any more conditions we figure out and can be used to prove that variants aren't allowed.
Edit: I should add that Progeny never flipped in case that turns out to be important.
I got Bunker's portrait to change color again. It looks like it happens when Progeny is flipped and multiple heroes go from 9 to 10 health on the same turn. How does this compare with the logs? I can't help but think Progeny flipping is the game engine's version of him changing form.
Just wanna say it does not need to be standard Progeny. I used his ultimate form in one of my prerequisite games, and it was fine. I have FV Wraith to prove it.
Same here. I used Ultimate for all the prereq battles.
i got it to change when he was healed.
It shouldn't matter where you installed to, the logs will always be in your windows User AppData folder. It should be in C:\Users<your user name>\AppData\LocalLow\Handelabra Games Inc_\Sentinels. AppData won't be visible if don't have 'show hidden items' turned on – it's in the View menu.
I got it. turns out I was looking at the one in temporary files, which was wrong.
No logs due to iOS. Bunker did 4 types of damage, but only 4 in melee and projectile. Bunker saved 3 Impending Casualites, though Progeny did kill one using End of Days. I made a point of not playing or discarding any mode cards. Defeated Proheny with Wraith getting the final blow. Wraith unlocked this same game so I know my prereqs are fulfilled. No unlock.
Bunker did do very little this fight. I managed to draw lots of cards via Legacy, Tachyon, Tactics, ammo Drop and Auxillary Power such that I kept the environment locked down after a few turns with Adhesive Foam Grenades and then purposely let the environment have a turn so I could find Impending Casualties. It could be the End of Days destroying Impending Casualties or it could be the lack of mode cards.
Finished another one, failed. Did not discard a different mode for each casualty. Kicking myself for missing that opportunity. Started from a continued game, so only that part of the log is here.
That's just a bug, it has nothing to do with variant unlocks or even Bunker in particular.
Curses! I was hoping you added a hint and never told us! Oh well. Conspiracy theory squashed. On to the next one!
Thanks for clarifying that up for us.
Tried again. Made sure to discard 1 of each mode for impending casualty, 1 of each mode for scion of blight, and 1 of each mode for the gatling gun. Did four types of damage. By the end of the game, every hero was fully set up (-damage over time cards) and most of them had their entire deck in their hand. Was using the original Freedom Five with the substitution of FF Wraith. Progeny flipped at least twice. Every one of his cards was used.
No Variant
Would uploading this game log help in any way?
That sounds like it would be helpful since those are all the conditions we think are needed for the unlock.
Alright, having Impending Casualites in mind I went back through those logs. Now I don't think Impending Casualities is the cause of the unlock, more like a symptom. I noticed the difference between the fails and the successes was that in all of the successes the following happened:
1. Bunker did 4 different types of damage to Progeny.
2. Bunker discarded from hand 2 copies each of Upgrade, Recharge, and Turret Mode.
I think Impending Casualities just makes it easier to discard cards from hand (symptom not cause)
So my new thought is:
1. Meet all the pre-req games as described by MigrantP
2. The Freedom Five must defeat Progeny in Megalopis
3. Bunker must do at least 4 different types of damage to Progeny
4. Bunker must discard from hand at least 2 copies each of Upgrade, Recharge, and Turret Mode.
I've definitely done that before, still no unlock. Here's my most recent log, though, like I said, I used Freedom Five Wraith this time instead of base Wraith.
In the story, part of Freedom tower was destroyed, yeah? Do you think all copies of decommissioned hardware need to be discarded from hand? I can tell you I haven't done that yet.
Just unlocked it!
I did four types of damage.
Used the base Freedom Five.
Progeny never flipped.
Had bunker deal melee damage every time close quarters came up.
Discarded all mode cards from hand.
Discarded all decomissioned hardware from hand.
Ended the game with nothing in bunker's hand, nothing in his deck, and the entire environment in the trash.
Here's the log. Hope it helps.
Finally got it myself! Glad to be done with this one. Sorry that there are still three more to go. Not at all sure what I did differently this time than last, but here's the log for folks to try to figure it out.
I really think the problem with your other games was using FF Wraith. I'm pretty sure all base Freedom Five is going to be a requirement for all of these unlocks.
This might have been mentioned earlier, but I noticed in your log here that Bunker only did 3 energy damage, so there's no damage amount requirement like we were thinking (or it's only 3). This also confirms that Progeny doesn't have to flip, which is nice to know. Good job!
Unlocked. I think the 4 types of damage/ discard every mode card is correct. Discarding decommisioned hardware is unnecessary.
log: https://pastebin.com/MxYX01TM
I guess now we just need to see if you actually need to win, and whether or not Bunker (or anyone else) need to survive.
Admittedly, it's really hard to lose to progeny without trying once you're set up with the Freedom Five.
It's not just discard all 3 modes and deal all 4 damage types. I have a fail log above that meets both criteria. You also don't have to discard all 3 modes to Impending Casualty specifically, since payprplayn (at least) didn't.
Tachyon being incapped is OK for sure. Not sure about anyone else, or if a win is required.
I can say that most of Bunker's discards in my successful playthrough were to blight.
So far I haven't managed an unlock. What would be a helpful test condition right now?
Right now the questions seem to revolve around two things.
2. It seems that Bunker needs to do a good amount of damage of various different types. Does it need to be four different types of damage? Is there a minimum amount of damage of each type that must be dealt? Do the scion cards in play at the time have anything to do with it?
Anything that can definitively answer one of those five questions is useful.
I've got another fail log (and I learned to remove Undo sections). I was trying to test again if variants would work (I used Grandpa Legacy, TLT, and Rook City Wraith along with base AZ and Bunker) as well as avoiding Impending Casualties. Bunker dealt all 4 types of damage and discarded from his hand 3 upgrade modes, 3 turret modes, and 2 recharge modes, although they were all due to Scion of Blight. With Rook City Wraith, I made sure Impending Casualties never entered play. I'll try this again with Bunker discarding for all 3 Impending Casualties and discarding his modes from hand, but still with the variants to try to make sure they're what's causing the problem. I'm really stuck on the variant thing right now, because I think if we figure out if they're allowed or not, that's going to apply to all the Freedom Five conditions.
Okay, I know you need to complete the prerequisite lost games.
I believe you need to use the freedom five, no variants, against Progeny in Megalopolis.
I believe you need to deal bunker's three types of damage (projectile, energy [from omni-cannon], and fire [from external combustion]) and melee damage through close quarters combat from the environment. Lowest amount of energy damage I've seen in a successful run is 3. I'm not sure whether or not there's a minimum amount of melee damage.
I believe you need to discard each of bunker's mode cards from hand.
I believe that "from your hand" is key. No discards through omni-cannon. I only discarded one mode card to impending casualty, so I don't think that impending casualties are necessary in that way, though all three did go through and bunker did discard a card for all of them.
Omni-Cannon doesn't involve discards at all. You move cards under it from your hand, and then they are destroyed.
The thing that mystifies me the most right now is how the environment is required for the "sacrifice" requirement. The Impending Casualty theory doesn't hold up, or isn't complete, as there are fails where Bunker discarded as many as 4 cards to it, and successes where there were only 3 that weren't all modes. It's possible that he just has to discard at least 3 cards to Casualty, and no other hero can discard any cards to it or to Scion of Blight.
Successful unlock: https://pastebin.com/aEbDF0c1 (sorry about the handful of undos)
Decommissioned Hardware doesn't appear to be relevant. Here's the successful logs I can see on this forum.

https://pastebin.com/MxYX01TM (loaded from a continued file)
I went through your fail log. Bunker discarded 1 Turret Mode, 1 Recharge Mode and 2 Upgrade Modes.
The condition I suggested was discard 2 or more of each mode card. So at least 2 Turret Modes and at least 2 Recharge Modes and at least 2 Upgrade Modes.
In addition Bunker needs to deal at least 4 different types of damage to Progeny. I didn’t get a chance to see if you had during your fail.
On this forum, that I've seen (posted those I saw above), everyone who successfully unlocked FF Bunker defeated Progeny.
I went through the unlock log files and discovered.
1) Bunker can play Modes
2) Progeny CAN flip
3) Bunker does NOT need to deal final damage
4) Bunker does not need to discard ALL modes.
5) Progeny has always been defeated
6) Bunker has never been incapped
7) Bunker has dealt ALL the kinds of damage in each game. (No damage less than 1, no damage more than 38)
8) The lowest amount of damage Bunker has dealt in one game is 12, the most is 89.
9) Bunker has dealt Progeny one of every type of damage
Sadly not true
https://pastebin.com/aEbDF0c1
Sorry, should have made that more clear. It's saying that everyone who successfully unlocked FF Bunker also defeated Progeny.
Darn me I misread that ENTIRELY. You're right. My bad.
It's cool.
I think you might have it! Let me toss this out there and see if it sticks:
First complete the prerequisite losses. Then defeat Progeny in Megalopolis using the non-variant Freedom Five. Bunker must discard at least two of each Mode card and must deal projectile, energy, fire, and melee damage to Progeny.
Okay... so I just unlocked while doing a test that was meant to fail. So that's a thing. Here's my key elements:
Failed Unlock
That log shows 2 discards of Upgrade and Recharge. Only 1 discard of Turret Mode
Unlocked.
Bunker did five instances of damage (the four to progeny, and four fire to himself.) Discarded at every opportunity, and discarded each mode at least four times (cramped quarters was the thirteenth card in the environment deck, so long game.)
Bunker only played the following cards:
He ended up skipping many turns.
UNLOCKED
I dealt ZERO Fire Damage
Bunker was not incapped
Bunker discarded ALL his mode cards.
Do the pre-requisite battles. Defeat Progeny using the Freedom Five in metropolis and have him discard 2 copies of his mode cards each.
I've been reading these threads and I feel like I missed a memo. What are "the prerequisites"? They are spoken of like Voldemort's name.
These are the prerequisets:
I just checked your log. Bunker dealt fire damage.
The community has discovered the official unlock condition for Freedom Five Bunker!
First, play the Prerequisite Games. Then, the Freedom Five (non-variant team members) must defeat Progeny in Megalopolis. During that game, Bunker must discard each unique Mode card at least twice. Bunker must deal at least 4 different types of damage to Progeny.
The Prerequisite Games are: First, the Prime Wardens (all variant members) must be defeated by Progeny anywhere other than Rook City or Megalopolis. Then, Dark Watch (all variant members) must by defeated by Progeny in Rook City. Then, the Freedom Five (non-variant members) must be defeated by Progeny in Rook City.
Great Job everyone! On to Tachyon!
Whoo-hoo, finally! :D
...Of course, now I have to wonder if there's a way for Bunker to deal more than four types of damage in this game. <.<
Unlocked.
The operating theory appears to be a good one.
Edit: Second time in 2 days not refreshing before posting has backfired. Great job everyone!
ARG! I was playing my unlocked game while the official requirements were being posted. I managed to unlock both bunker and Wraith in the same game. it ended up taking forever because I had to wait forever and ever for an Omni Cannon
The prereq games are required before you can do any of the F5 unlocks, but you only have to do them once. They were uncovered first in the Wraith unlock thread.
So Christopher’s tip was slightly misleading after all. Only one of the two conditions requires the environment. The other can be fulfilled entirely with Scion of Blight.
Well, his job IS to tell us lies. :P
I was surprised he gave a tip at all. Though knowing what it was and reading it myself I didn’t find it that misleading.
Does Progeny have to deal the finishing blow on all prerequisite games? I tried doing all four game conditions, only to be met with no unlock. Twice.
He shouldn’t.
Make sure you’re using the correct variants (vanilla for FF, actual PW and DW.) and not adding a fifth member for the DW fight.
This.
Dark Watch. Not Dark Watch plus a guest star.
And Prime Wardens, not Xtreme Prime Wardens.
Also it must be in order:
Prime Wardens anywhere but Megalopolis
Dark Watch in Rook City
Freedom Five, non-variant, in Rook City
The Prime Wardens loss can’t be in Megaopolis or Rook City not just Megaopolis.
That’s right. Sorry. Lost track of how many times I’ve types that.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, then...I've met all those conditions. The environment finished one of those teams off, so I thought that was it. Trying again.
If you still have issues I’d suggest sending feedback to Handelabra.
Are you on PC?
Can you post post your Fail log?
*FACEPALM*
I didn't have the correct F5 members. For some reason I keep thinking Tempest is on the F5, not AZ.
Anyway, unlocked.
Megalopolis*
Needless nitpicking.
I do that all the time myself. I always want to put Tempest in the F5
He isn't Wolverine, he can't be in seven different hero teams and in thirteen different books in the span of one month.
If any hero was in that many teams/books I’d wager Tempest or Wraith is that character.
Unity would beat them all, Based on the letters page she seems to be the most popular character.
Sorry, I’m an editor by trade, so I can’t help myself. Especially when it’s twice in the same post.
Unity is a fan favorite, but she doesn’t seem to get around much. She isn’t on many cards and she doesn’t feature in many stories, not even most of the Freedom Five ones. And she’s a late addition. Wraith, Tempest, and Mr. Fixer would be my top three, with Scholar, Haka, and AA getting honorable mentions.
