And so it begins--and Sky-Scraper yet again is denied her Extremism.

The obvious places to start looking are Biomancer, and perhaps the Court of Blood, as DCAA inherited the baton that was imbued with blood magic.

But shouldn’t it be Da Signe (I have no idea how to spell it; we always just used D.S.) since he has the symbol on his chest and all?

Well, it's not as simple as "win a game where AA destroys Carbon Adept", or then also "win a game where AA deals the final blow to Akash'Bhuta in the Court of Blood". But I figured I'd give a couple things a shot. Had a fun team going on that second one (AA / RA KNYFE / Omnitron-X / Legacy); AA was doing a pile of damage with every power phase.

It’s not simply win a game against biomancer with AA uncapped and carbon Adept in play when Biomancer goes down.

It’s also not “have Tempest kill the Carbon Adept and then win by having Biomancer removed from the game.” Not that I thought it was, nor was that the plan…

Just brainstorming, but perhaps if AA plays a song and destroys a song in the same turn? Or perhaps helps a hero play a card, then destroys that card in the same turn?

I figure copying the effect of the power we're hunting for is a good enough place to start as any...

According to The Letters Page, the baton belonged to a Virtuoso who, instead of training up other potential Virtuosos, stole their power to use for himself.

So maybe the unlock has to do with Argent Adept not supporting other heroes -- like only using his cards effects on himself (i.e., only granting himself card plays, power uses or draws, and only healing himself).

Having AA only use his songs to benefit himself and deal damage, as well has have him get all instruments into play and personally destroy both the Carbon Adept and Biomancer, isn't it. He boosted his own damage, granted himself extra powers, and healed himself (with both songs that do so), as well as destroy targets with both his damaging songs.  This was in the Court of Blood.

Maybe we have to put him in the lead as though he's "conducting" the team?

Or maybe, since he's acting selfishly, he has to be in the back?

Maybe he has to Cedistic Dissonant Carbon Adept? Or even blow up all his instruments?

Maybe he has to buff only other people, and then when Carbon Adept is destroyed, only buff himself?

I think an important thing to remember about this variant is Blood magic. The holder of the baton infused the power of blood magic with the normal void 'energy' of a Virtuoso, which lead to its corruption.

Blood Magic could be represented through self-damage, so the first card that comes to mind is Polyphoric Flare? If self-damage isn't the case, maybe its just being in critical health?

So the variant was just unlocked, and the picture can be found on Handelabra's twitter page.

Argent's turn, the other heroes are Legacy, then (in second position) Base Argent, Requital Cosmic, SOMEONE who is hard to tell in the picture (Scholar?), then Unleashed Visionary. No one appears to be incapped. The Villain is Akash in Court of Blood. Hallowed Halls and Infecting an Heir are both out.

I'm assiuming it has something to do with Argent dealing the final blow to Akash in this specific envionrment. Will get to testing.

Maybe Infecting an Heir has to hit Argent at least once in Court of Blood?

It's probably an environment requirement and not an enemy requirement.  AA's Letters Page episode didn't mention any encounters between him and Akash'Bhuta after the Carbon Adept event.  Unfortunately I can't tell much about the game state from just that picture.

I can say it is not /just/ Argent Adept dealing the final blow to Akash in the Court of Blood. I tried that last night. He had almost everything out, and had used every instrument at least once.

So that may be the villain and environment, but there's definitely more to it.

While it's not quite the 30-damage combo, I feel like Nepycros must feel somewhat vindicated.

Well, here's a fail log for the pile.  Argent Adept in the lead, vs. Progeny in the Court of Blood.  No hero other than AA dealt damage to Progeny, so that's 91 damage dealt by him.  Some sonic and cold, mostly fire and infernal.  All instruments and most songs were in play, though many were unused.  He Sarabanded a couple of vampires, but a couple were still in play.  Luckily, AA was damaged by Infecting an Heir once, but everyone finished at full HP.

AA vs Akash in Court of Blood, deal a LOT of damage (easily over 20 a turn for several turns), got sniped from the killing blow by a surprise vampire looking for the WORST heir, no unlock. A lot of the damage was to limbs instead of straight to Akash'Bhuta, though. (Didn't have every song or instrument out by a long shot).

The Steam discussion seems to have theorized "The Argent Adept must not target any other heroes with songs" as a condition.

CH

It is also not: Court of Blood, Argent Adept gets hit with Infecting an Heir, and Argent Adept takes out X targets or deals X damage.

He was hit third turn with Infecting an Heir. Over the game, he destroyed 12 targets via damage, and did over 100 damage. Team was Legacy, AA, Tempest, Ra, and Visionary Unleashed. Villain was Ambuscade.

Akash'bhuta may be necessary, or I'm missing a condition.

One used the Perform on Inventive Preparation, so using songs to benefit allies is allowed, perhaps just as long as they're not "targeted".

AA can destroy vampires, but doesn't have to.  One success has him destroy no targets except the villain, but one success has Tempest finish off the villain.  One success has him use literally no songs other than Scherzo, but others have him use other stuff (but only ever on himself).  He can end with HP as high as 19 that I've seen so far, so low HP is not a condition.  He seems to do at least 50 damage in each of the successes I added up, but that's clearly not the only requirement.  Looks like, once again, my last success probably missed just one condition, but I don't know what it was.

Edit: Oh, it could be a combination of my two attempts.  Have him deal 50+ damage and also never target an ally with a song.  I tried each of those things but never both at once.

Failure. No log because iOS, but the game only lasted two rounds.

Advanced Plague Rat vs. Legacy, Ra, Hunted Naturalist, Chrono Ranger, and regular AA. Court of Blood.

PR busted out Ravage turn 1 and infected all but AA. Everyone piled on damage. AA's two turns were play Scherzo / use Vocalize on Scherzo for 8 damage to PR, then play Instrumental Conjuration to pull out the Pipes, and use them to activate Scherzo for a 4 damage killing blow from the first hit.

So, it's not JUST that he can't target allies... hmm.

[edit: In case it may matter: the only environment card that came out was Drudge Ficko.]

OK team, I have an unlock where AA did absolutely nothing. Again, iOS, but the game was so short that it's not hard to remember.

Same setup as before: Advanced Plague Rat vs. Chrono-Ranger, Ra, Hunted Naturalist, Legacy, and Argent Adept in Court of Blood.

AA skipped both of the turns he got.

Round 1: Court of Blood played Blood Countess.

Round 2: Court of Blood played Infecting an Heir, which hit AA and caused him to do the subsequent AOE damage. (This definitely didn't happen in any of my failed attempts - I was playing either Akash or Gloomweaver, and there are no shortage of low HP targets for the vampires to feast on.)

On PR's third turn, AA was incapacitated; I unlocked the variant anyway as soon as we won on Ra's third turn.

Interesting.  I just tried a game where AA did nothing and did not get the unlock.  Mine was against Akash in the Court of Blood.  I never saw the Blood Countess and Infecting an Heir was in play, but it was destroyed before there was ever a vampire in play to infect someone.

I just had a fail where AA got hit with Infecting an Heir, so that might be a red herring (although I was fighting Ambuscade, not Akash or Gloomy -- people have unlocked against him though).  Or at least not sufficient.

AA was doing a lot of stuff in my game though.  He did large amounts of damage and destroyed the majority of the cards either with damage or sarabande.  He played many of his songs (including two copies each of scherzo and sarabande, which I used with the pipes almost every turn) and several instruments, and did not target allies with any songs.  He did do some healing with vernal sonata, but there are successes that used vernal.

Remainder of the team was Legacy, OX, Ra, and TLT.

Got it with Legacy,AA, Vis Unleashed, Ra, and XPWCC against Akash in the court of blood. Spent the whole game with a Xu’s Bell and sycopated onslaught just cranking out damage with AA. Legacy gave +2, Ra gave +1, Vis and XPWCC just helped pop targets and wail on Akash. Thinking the unlock is a damage or incapped target requirement.

So no need for Akash, and no need for CoB. I think by now we can focus on how much/type of damage, number of targets destroyed, how many songs played on only AA...

Yeah, I had H=5 and Galvanize up.  Plague Rat and the Plague Locus were out. None of my team or other targets had any damage reduction. AA was not infected.

7 targets, 3 damage each = 21 total damage from AA in my game, so Mindwanderer has the right idea if we're looking at a damage requirement.

Just unlocked.  Here is what I did, to try and narrow down some of the requirements.

Villain: Ambuscade

Environment: Insula Primalis

Heroes: Legacy, TL Tach, Ra, Vis, AA

Previously defeated: Biomancer

AA focused entirely on damage.  The only songs I used were Scherzo of Frost and Flame, and skipped my power phase until I had them out. I played Arcane cadence several times to do so.  Once I had the dual Scherzo/pipes setup, AA became the party damage dealer, with everyone else skipping turns or beign defensive.  AA destroyed numerous targets, and was buffed with Galvanize, Flag, Imbued Fire, and double Twist the Ethers to do about 20 damage a turn.

Ra used Flesh of the sun god to protect people from lava, Visionary used Levitation to protect people from plants and dinos, and Legacy protected people from Ambuscade by being immune to propjectiles and redirecting damage. This enabled me to spend as long as I needed to get fully set up, and to spend multiple turns killing devices, environment targets, and generally wreaking havoc with the AA.  Final turn, I hit Visionary with one of the pulses from Scherzo, just in case there was a hero damage component.

Someone on Steam just had an unlock exact same as Bolnerap's: Argent did nothing... except get hit by Heir and do more than 20 damage in a turn thanks to damage boosts.

I'm going to go look through the logs and try to set up a game myself, but I wonder if my joke about Nepycros had some merit and the unlock condition is basically "Have (base?) Argent Adept do at least 20 damage in a single turn".

I got mine with not effecting anyone else with AA, I stuck to punching and destroying ongoings with him

Interestingly the final blow was landed by a Vampire with 'Infecting the Heir', so AA doesn't have to land the last slap

Was against Ambuscade as well, so the villain doesn't seem to matter.

Unlocked data

Ambuscade in Insula P. with team in this order: TLT, Legs, Ra, Cap C, AA.

AA took damage from the environment and Ambuscade.

AA helped no one else. On a previous failed attempt AA only helped others by healing them with a Vernal Sonata. I think this is key. He can do nothing that benefits others.

AA only did damage. Others did damage as well, but I really focused on him doing damage. This may be a red herring as others have reported doing little and getting the unlock.

My guess is:
Win a game with Argent Adapt. Over the course of the game Argent Adept cannot cause other players to use powers, play cards, draw cards, reveal cards, discard cards, increase damage, reduce damage, move cards from their trash to thier deck, or heal hp.

AA didn’t do more than 12 damage in one turn in my unlock. It’s probably something as simple as: win/complete a game, AA must have dealt at least 20 damage and cannot have targeted any heroes with a song.

Since it’s unlocked at the end, it might also require that no other heroes be incapped. Might also be an average damage per round rule (about 5 would have done it in my game).

Unlock Data:

Defeated Gloomweaver in Realm of Discord with Skyscraper, PW Fanatic, DW Fixer, Term-AZ, and Argent Adept.

Argent Adept was incapcitated at the end of the game, having played one card (Scherzo) and used one power (to activate Scherzo,) on the penultimate round. He destroyed one target (Angry Mob,) but was infected by Blood Countess. No other heroes were incapacitated.

This comes on the heels of a similar game against Blade in the Court of Blood where Adept destroyed no targets, played no cards, used no powers, but Expatriette was also incapcitated at the end.

Similar to this worked for me. Advanced Plague Rat, Court of Blood, Legacy, Chrono, Ra, Hunted Naturalist, AA. Won at the end of turn 2, everyone just blasted the rat, AA was at 9 HP and did do damage with Ice and Fire song.

I got really lucky with Heroic Presence, Galvanize, By any means, with 2 The Predator's Eye and an early Croc form, AA got Frost and Flame first turn.

2 games ago i beat Biomancer with AA killing Carbon Adept, game before I beat Ambuscade with AA dealing the final blow (both of these I think are unrelated). I think its really easy, defeat a boss with AA under 10 HP.

AA passed every turn until he played 2 Scherzo of Frost and Fires and conjured Drake's Pipes on the final three turns.  On the last turn, he hit Ambuscade for 20 total damage to defeat him.  He had 9 HP remaining.  Here's my guess:

Win a game with the Argent Adept.  Argent Adept may not target any other Hero with a song effect and must do at least 20 total damage.

Went through some logs.  In none of the successes did AA use either of his healing songs, even just on himself.  Some of the failures have them and no other trigger that matches our current theories.  Interestingly, I found one failure (https://pastebin.com/JPCisy4x) in which I have no explanation except an Inspiring Supertonic accompany that was shut off by Unhallowed Halls.  He can use Vernal Sonata, though.

I found one game that did seem to meet all current theories... until I noticed that the heroes lost.  So pretty sure either victory or "no other heroes can be incapacitated" is a condition.  Or both.

So my current working theory: Win.  Argent Adept (any version) must deal at least 20 damage, cannot use any songs to benefit any allies, and cannot use the Perform on Rhapsody of Vigor or the Accompany on Inspiring Supertonic.

Edit: No, this one is mystifying: https://pastebin.com/58J1Pwyb He did use the Perform on Syncopated Onslaught, which I haven't seen in any other logs.  Perhaps that's forbidden, too?

Edit 2: No, found a log where he used the Perform on Syncopated Onslaught and did get the unlock.  Huh.

Played a couple on Insula against Ambuscade.  Teams were Legacy, Ra, Vis, Naturalist, and AA (all baseline).  Didn't use any songs that would benefit others either time, and did damage when possible, exclusively with scherzo.  AA got the final hit both times, by coincidence.

First try was a fail.  Second try was a success.

Differences between the two:

* On the first try, AA destroyed environment targets (the T-rex and a raptor pack) with sarabande.  On the second, I didn't play it.

* On the first try, AA had all three song types in play.  On the second, I only played melody (both scherzos and one rhapsody of vigor, which I did not activate -- was going to test whether helpful songs might be a 'do not play' condition rather than 'do not activate,' but clearly not).

* On the first try, AA had both pipes and harp in play.  On the second, pipes were the only instrument.

* On the first try, the environment did almost no damage to Ambuscade.  On the second try, volcano came out early while I had Ra's flesh of the sun god out, so it did at least 21 damage to him, along with destroying a bunch of devices.  I don't think this has anything to do with the unlock, though.

* AA took more damage in a shorter time on the second, thanks to fewer redirects.  However, he lived through both, and ended at 12 and 14 hp.

* AA did less damage on the second, although his damage rate was higher because the game was shorter.

* AA did not pass any turns on the first.  He passed one play phase and two power phases on the second, skipping one entire turn and the power phase of another turn.

Just unlocked. The team, in order, was Legacy, Chronoranger, K.N.Y.F.E, Freedom Six Tachyon, and regular Argent Adept against Akash-buta in the Court of Blood. Argent Adept only played four melody cards, two of the one that destroys ongoings and environment cards and two of the one that does cold and fire damage (sorry - cannot remember their names to save my life). All he did the whole game was either damage or destroying environment cards. He destroyed two unhallowed halls and one entomb card. He did get the killing blow on the villain. There was a primordial limbs still in play.

I did nothing with the Argent Adept that affected other characters and merely focused on the damage. I did have two instruments in play but both of them got destroyed (they were both instruments that allowed him to use melodies). He got the killing blow with his vocalize ability doing cold and fire damage.

I apologize for not knowing the card names but I'm pretty sure people here can get the gist of what I am trying to say.

Hope this helps.

OK, so I pored over https://pastebin.com/58J1Pwyb and the only thing odd I saw about it was damage to Crimson Pin.  So here's a semi-wild theory:

Win a game with any version of Argent Adept on the team.  Argent Adept must deal at least 20 damage, cannot affect any targets in any hero play areas other than his own with any of his songs, and cannot activate the Perform effect on Rhapsody of Vigor or the Accompany effect on Inspiring Supertonic.

Unlocked.

Did a ton of damage

Legacy, AA, SST, RA.

Ambuscade

Insula Primalis

I dealt a lot of damage

Never used instrument or H,R,M on another hero.

Win a game with AA where AA doesn't use a Harmony, Melody, or Rythym on a hero asides from himself. He also must deal 20 damage. AA can't be incapacitated.

My new guess is:

Win a game with any version of AA on the team. AA must do at least 10 points of damage over the course of the game and cannot use any of his cards or powers to benefit other hero targets.

Not sure how exact we need to be woth the wording on benefit. If I need to spell out how he can benefit other players or not.

I haven't been able to follow the unlock as closely as I've wanted. I imagine the data is easy to keep getting mixed up if you're not paying attention since day 1 and then you have all this data to try and parse at once. But the good news is, I still have my unlock to burn!

I haven't read any logs, but I've tried to go through this thread. Here is my limited understanding. Maybe all of you who are more intimate with the attempts so far can make corrections and fill in the blanks. Then we can use this as the base model for trying new unlock attempts.

  • Villain/environment are irrelevant

  • AA needs to deal a lot of damage, either by his own doing or forced by other cards. (Does it have to be against non-heroes? Certain amount vs. environment? Certain amount vs. villains? Minimum amount of damage in one turn?)

  • It doesn't matter if AA is incapacitated or not. (What about the other heroes?)

  • AA can't use songs on other heroes. Yes or no? What about non-song effects, like Vernal Sonata?

  • Do you have to win the game?

True.

This seems to be the case, but has largely been assumed and has not been well-tested.

If it's required, it can be against heroes.  Usually it's against villains.  I haven't seen any where the damage was primarily against environment targets.

Seems unlikely.  rj917 maxed out at 5 damage in one turn.  I did as little as zero damage in one round.

Untested.

That's the running theory.  No successes have involved using any song on any other hero, and there were a few failures where that seemed like an obvious explanation.  There are failures not covered by that theory, though.

Vernal Sonata is acceptable.

Not well-tested, but there was one failure that ended in a defeat by hero incapacitation that seems like it probably would have been a success otherwise.  Sudden death losses have not been tested.

Thanks, MindWanderer. That's very helpful. Good info on the variant AA as well, rjc917.

I'll try a sudden death game. If that gets an unlock, it could be a "no other heroes may be incapacitated" situation. If not, we can likely conclude winning is required.

The problem that's keeping me from figuring it out is that if it's damage related it can't merely be total damage, as there's failures which had a lot of total damage. So something like damage per turn, damage per hit, amount of a single type of damage, etc.?

MI
MindWanderer

Might be average damage per round over the course of the game.  Type of damage seems unlikely, since Dark Conductor has no reason to be fire-themed and fire is the only consistent damage type (thanks, Ra).  Damage per hit also seems to be out, since bolnerap's unlock was lots of small-ish hits once only.

If it's damage per turn, the data from my two Plague Rat games is easy. Both games had H=5 and ended before AA got a third turn.

Game 1 (fail): AA got two turns and did 12 damage (4 + 4 + 4, cold / fire / cold)

Game 2 (success): AA got two turns and did 21 damage. (7 instances of 3, all infernal)

What about damaging multiple targets in a turn, or multiple targets at one time? Doesn't infecting an Heir cause AoE damage? That could be why Court of Blood seemed like it was required.

OK, team - I hate to post this again, but I really think my unlock helps rule out a lot of these potential conditions folks keep saying. Here is what happened in my unlock:

Round 1: AA skips his play phase and his power phase. Court of Blood plays a vampire.

Round 2: AA skips his play phase and his power phase. Court of Blood plays Infecting an Heir, causing AA to hit all 5 heroes, Plague Rat, and the Plague Locus for 3 damage each (total 21).

Round 3: AA is incapacitated by Plague Rat and the game ends before he would have had his third turn.

AA did not use powers, did not play cards, and did not destroy any targets. AA was incapacitated at the end of the battle.

Actually I was suggesting something that too my knoweldge had not been suggested yet. Keep in mind that I was using 10 damage as the threshold. MigrantP went through a big lecture about things that qualify, but are not necessary. So doing 20 damage would qualify if the requirement was 10, but it would count as a necessary condition. I was thinking that may be where we are at and was testing to see if we were going over on the damage requirement.

Well, this is much less useful than I thought it was going to be, and unfortunately I stopped in the middle and thus only have a partial log. But my strategy was to give AA multiple Cosmic Weapons and then have him play no cards and use no other powers. So AA did a mess of damage and nothing else. However, Infecting an Heir never damaged a character card, just a construct one time. So I'm guessing it's something like: Court of Blood, AA must deal some amount of damage (I'm guessing about 20 from bolnerap's description), AA must not target any heroes with any of his songs.

Edit: whoops, ninjaed and I'm wrong.

I used nothing but Cosmic Weapon, myself, so I didn't deal damage to more than one target at a time most rounds, and never more than two targets in a round (two Cosmic Weapons and Augmented Ally).  AA did destroy a few, but he destroyed nothing in bolnerap's game.

Jeysie failed with 132 damage over 12 rounds, a whopping 11 damage per round, more than the 10.5 average he did in bolnerap's game.

Damn.  Then I'm at a loss to come up with a condition that can explain unlocks like that one and also like the one where AA did nothing other than get hit by Infecting an Heir.

It's not villains, it's not environments, it doesn't have to do with playing cards, it doesn't seem to matter whether he's incapped or other heroes are (and I don't think we're even sure that a win is required at this point…) or who is with him.  It doesn't even require a particular version of AA.  There are very similar games where one doesn't unlock and the other does, and there are wildly different ones where both succeed.

I'm starting to wonder whether it has to do with AA at all.  Maybe there's something the other heroes have to do.

I would try using Extreme AA and have him build up over the course of a few games trying damaging multiple different targers with his base power and doing nothing else. For example game 1 only damaging 1 target, game 2 damaging 2 targets. etc. and see if you get to a point where you get the unlock. I am guessing the magic number is going to be 5 targets.

Then try the same thing only damaging 1 or 2 targets, but doing 5, 10, 15 20 damage over subsequent games. that way we can see if it is total damage or multiple targets.

- Number of targets hit is irrelevant. From Bolnerap:

- It doesn't matter if AA is incapacitated or other heroes are incapacitated. From Bolnerap:

- AA can target other heroes. From Tskami ek:

No unlock.

Legacy, Ra:Horus of Two Horizons, Dark Visionary, Xtreme Prime Wardens Argent Adept and Rook City Wraith vs. Ambuscade on Mobile Defense Platform.

XPW AA did nothing but deal damage using Ra, Legacy and Visionary to boost his damage. AA did use Synopated Onslaught on himself to increase his own damage one round. (and only himself) He also played Polyphoric Flare, Xu's Bell Arcane Cadence and Silver Shadow to get more damage out. I did well over 20 points to villain targets and then I had AA destroy Propulsion Systems to take the sudden death route. No unlock.

On a side note, Wrest the Mind and Flesh of the Sun God is a good combo against a Sonic Mine.

Well, I have my second unlock, but I'm not sure if it tells us anything.

Since my wife doesn't have any season 2 content, I did Legacy / Ra / Chrono-Ranger / Omnitron-X / Argent Adept in Insula Primalis vs. Advanced Plague Rat. Once again, it was a damage-fest. Once again, it ended in two rounds. This time, AA did a total of 20 damage:

5 to himself from Infection in round 1 (1 + Imbued Fire + Galvanize + Advanced rule for Infection + Plague Locus)

10 to Plague Rat in round 1 from Scherzo (same modifiers)

AA was down to 2 HP after PR's second turn. I played Heroic Interception so he wouldn't kill himself from Infection, but now I'm kicking myself that I did that, because it would have made great testing material! Oh well.

Then, PR was down to 5 HP on AA's second turn. Infection whiffed because of Heroic Interception, and PR went down from the first hit from Scherzo. (Same modifiers as before).

AA did exactly 20 damage in 2 turns (15 to Plague Rat and 5 to himself, all Fire because of Imbued Fire), and I got the unlock.

The damage component of the unlock is almost certainly 'at least 20'.

I have two logs, in the first, XPWAA did nothing except use Rebel Yell to deal 18 damage to Villain targets.  It failed.  In the second, XPWAA did the same but with 20 damage.  Success.

I don't know about the helping other heroes out component, but dealing 20 damage or more seems to be the key.

Logs are attached with their name indicating AA's damage amount.

Edit: I should say I also have another failure where AA did 19 damage, but he was using effects on other heroes in that attempt.  If that log ever seems like it will be useful, I'l post it.

For now we should probably concentrate on seeing which powers AA is allowed to use and on who, while also dealing at least 20 damage.

Looking through that log, it seems the only things that AA readlly did in addition to the damage were:

  • Destroy a lot of cards with Sarabande of Destruction (probably irrelevent)
  • Heal a lot with Vernal Sonata (possible culprit)
  • Give another Hero a boost with Syncopated Onslaught (possible culprit)
  • Heal all Heroes with Rhapsody of Vigor a decent amount (likely culprit)
So we can narrow it down to probably three of those things.  We need tests with each done as the only thing AA does.

OK, so was going to edit the prior post, but this one seems important enough to have its own.

This unlock:https://pastebin.com/5Ripp7Ux

has AA heal with both Vernal Sonata and Rhapsody of Vigor.

So the only red cards we have are Sarabande of Destruction and Syncopated Onslaught.

Could it simply be:

Argent Adept (any form) is on a team that wins a fight.  Argent Adept must have dealt at least 20 damage and must not use the perform effect of Syncopated Onslaught to increase damage of other Heroes.

or

Argent Adept (any form) is on a team that wins a fight.  Argent Adept must have dealt at least 20 damage and must not use the perform effect of any Rhythms or Harmonies on any other Heroes.

UXM266's unlock in post #70 has Sarabande destroy Volcanic Eruption.

Jeysie's bugged game that MigrantP said should have unlocked has Sarabande destroy Unhallowed Halls and Infecting an Heir.

Interestingly enough, I haven't seen any unlocks where Sarabande destroyed an environment target, but there are a few fail logs where AA dealt more than 20 damage and didn't use Sarabande to destroy an environment target, so if that is it, there's still something else too.

Considering the flavor of the variant, I wonder if maybe it's a matter of repeating an action a certain number of times in addition to damage. Damage itself has been the easy repeated action to find, but there could be other options since IIRC there's been people who've just done single large instances of damage and still gotten an unlock.

The only repeated action my AA did other than deal damage was draw a card.

I still have my unlock available. What things do we need to test yet?

We believe that should have unlocked the variant. Did you confirm that the lock icon was there before starting the game? If you started the app offline, or before Tuesday evening, then it wouldn't know that the variant could be unlocked.

An update will be out very soon (probably today) with offline support for unlocking all variants up to and including Dark Conductor Argent Adept.

I'm starting to feel sorry for MigrantP and all the mess our bugged logs are making. Clearly that blood magic baton has cursed our efforts.

So...... we looked into it in more depth, and discovered there's a bug in the unlock code for Dark Conductor Argent Adept. If you activate the accompany text of Inspiring Supertonic or Alacritous Subdominant, the variant will incorrectly fail to unlock. This bug will be fixed in an update soon (but not the 2.5.7 update being released today). Sorry about that!

In light of that, and since the community has gotten very close to the condition, I'm revealing the official unlock condition for Dark Conductor Argent Adept!

Win a game with any version of the Argent Adept on the team. Every time the Argent Adept uses a power, perform text, or accompany text that can benefit himself, he must benefit himself. The Argent Adept must deal at least 20 damage over the course of the game.

So that's the real reason my first unlock failed! (I used both of those songs on Argent.) OK, Spectrum internet, you're slightly forgiven.

...but if I'm gonna be honest, I'm not 100% sure we'd have hit on that one any time soon considering we kept getting focused on the exact opposite idea.

I have faith in us. I like that it was a little more difficult to nail this one down. Not because of the bug, but it would have taken us more work to figure out the difference between "help anyone" and "always at least help ourselves." Some serious log analysis would have had to happen.

That Dark Conductor is more than a little self-centered isn't he? :)

Time to go unlock!

Honestly between that and the damage, I wonder if when he says "Fail to do so [move to my beat] and you will danse macabre", is he warning they'll lose, or warning he'll personally kill everyone who doesn't follow his command out of annoyance? :stuck_out_tongue:

I would have unlockedthis on the train this morning with PWAA, had I not triggered both of those accompanies.

Well, UXM, like the rest of us, also missed the part where he can benefit others as long as he also benefits himself.

Clarification for MigrantP: If he targets himself with Rhapsody of Vigor, but he’s at full HP, does that count as benefiting himself? What about the Perform on Inventive Preparation when his deck is empty? What about targeting things like Voodoo Pins and Jinxes when both he and an ally are inflicted with them–does he have to get rid of his own first?

I also assume that if you use Dark Conductor to unlock himself, he always has to choose his own deck to look at. Does he also always have to choose his own revealed card to play?

@MindWanderer - if he chooses himself for the decision, that counts - it doesn't need to actually do anything. Targeting things for destruction with Sarabande is not tracked. There's only so much we can reasonably do to track "selfish" behaviour (especially since we don't want to have to keep updating the unlock code when new decks come out).

The code isn't actually checking for his innate power yet, we'll fix that in the next update. He would have to pick himself and he would have to play his card.

Yeah I was going to note that MindWanderer, but I was also also going to note that UXM did get the reverse phrasing we needed. So thanks Powerhound for pointing that out; I had initially overlooked it because back then I still thought my fail log disproved the idea.

Wow, I was actually going to suggest that maybe it's OK to help others if he also helps himself too…  I thought it was a little too far out there to try out yet, though.

At least we have the solution!  Thanks for being generous, MigrantP. :slightly_smiling_face:

So to clarify, for Rhapsody of Vigor, does that mean he can only heal himself with it, or that he can heal others, but has to target himself as well?

It sounds like he always has to be included, instead of excluding others like we thought back when.

Yeah, you would get a failure if you healed others but not AA.  Or with Syncopated Onslaught or Counterpoint Bulwark, AA must be one of the two targets chosen.

Is there another glitch that prevents this unlock?  I have tried repeatedly without success, following the official conditions and even avoiding the glitch conditions mentioned above.

I’ve tried vs Gloomweaver and Ambuscade in Final Wasteland, with TL Tachyon, Legacy (regular or Greatest), Hakka, and Argent Adept (regular or XPW).

Maybe the 20 damage has to be unboosted?

I’ve tried without those accompanies, without any accompanies, unboosted damage, etc.  Gloomweaver regular or advanced.  I’ve tried redownloading expansions, restarting the app.  I’m good to try restarting my iPad next.  I had similar trouble unlocking Tormented Infinitor...

We've identified the problem with the unlock condition - it's a new bug unfortunately introduced when fixing another bug with it. We are working on an update with a fix. Until then you can unlock the variant by clicking the lock icon then the unlock button. That will let you play the variant, but won't prevent you from performing the story challenge and earning the achievement later.

After I submitted a bug report by email, I received a reply asking for more details on what I did, but haven't had a chance to respond.  Is it still helpful for me to do so?

Thank you!  I tried so many different things that it would have been a pain to try to explain, and considered transcribing a play-through to give you a homemade log (I'm glad I don't have to now).  I assume the glitch isn't something that can be worked around (e.g. don't use a certain card)?

I tried it with the Adept doing absolutely nothing but attacking with Autonomous Blade. No songs to worry about being selfish with or not, no misfiring of anything, just non-stop laserswording.

No unlock. Damn. Thought I'd had a good workaround, there.
