Well, it's not as simple as beating Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base with Tachyon on the team and having Chrono-Ranger deal the finishing blow with Temporal Grenade.  I had Kill on Sight on Ambuscade, too (it's the bounty with Ambuscade's picture and flavor text, though it has no effect when played on him).  Since that's BoT's origin story, I thought that might be it, but no dice.

Hm... I suppose I could have been more literal and had Tachyon destroy more/all of Ambuscade's stuff first.

Holy cow, I got it.

Here is my guess as to what I did.

Chrono-Ranger with Tachyon vs Ambuscade on Wagner Mars Base

Used Temporal Grenade on Ambuscade.

Chrono-Ranger did not land the final blow.

I just tried that.  I damaged him with a Temporal Grenade, and I won, but I did have CR deal the final blow.  Let's try again.

It might be necessary to have a bounty on Ambuscade, but I only had Ultimate Target on him.

Did the environment play Self Destruct?

I tested it too.

Wagner Mars Base, Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon present, had the bounties The Ultimate Target and By Any Means on Ambuscade, and Chrono-Ranger used the temporal grenade to hit Ambuscade and kill the self-destruct (but didn't do any more damage). No unlock.

Played against Ambuscade at Mars, with Chrono-Ranger, Tachyon, Legacy, and KNYFE.

Chrono put Kill on Sight on Ambuscade, dealt him damage with Temporal Grenade, and allowed KNYFE to finish him off.

No unlock.

I never saw Self-Destruct Sequence, so maybe that’s important?

Got it in one. Used Temporal Grenade to get rid of a Villainous Weaponry on the second round, never saw the self destruct. Chrono, base Tachyon and Fixer. Chrono did most of the damage, and had By Any Means and Kill on Sight on Ambuscade at the end. Hunter and Hunter went into play in the last round, followed by Terrible Tech Strike, and using the darts for his power. Fixer finished him off.

My guess:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base with Chrono Ranger and Base Tachyon on the team. Chrono Ranger must use Temporal Grenades to destroy an environment card and damage Ambuscade. Kill on Sight must be in play on Ambuscade at the end of the game, and neither Chrono Ranger or Tachyon can land the final blow.

Just got the unlock.

Against Ambuscade in the Wagner Mars Base

Team was

1.  Team Leader Tachyon

2. K.N.Y.F.E

3. Chrono-ranger

4. Sky Scraper

Chrono Ranger had "Kill on Sight" and "By Any Means" on Ambuscade.

No traps went off.

Chrono-Ranger used two Temporal Grenades.  One early in the match to destroy Pervasive Red Dust, and one in the final round to destroy "Maintenence Level"  Ambsucade was damaged both times by the grenades.

Sky Scraper got the finishing blow.

I think mwc146 has the right idea, except base Tachyon is not required.  Any Tachyon will get the job done.

Wish I had my phone here to help hunt and try this out, but are we sure any of Ambuscade, Tachyon or Wagner Mars Base is required? I understand where it's coming from looking at the cards, but it seems everyone is jumping on this band wagon without even trying other teams, villains or environments.

Got it. Legacy, Tachyon and Chrono vs Ambuscade in Wagner.

Had Ultimate Target, By Any Means, Dead or Alive and Kill On Sight on Ambuscade. Had the Hat and bow out. Didn't have hunter and hunted.

Chrono Grenaded the Self-Destruct sequence.

Final blow was dealt by fire in the bioshpere.

I know it CAN be TL Tachyon, because that's who I used to open it on Steam.  In the Steam forums, people have unlocks without Kill on Sight.  I just beat it twice on Android having used a Temporal Grenade to damage Ambuscade and destroy an environment card and someone besides those 2 got the killing blow, and I didn't get the unlock either time, so we're still missing something.

My guess.

Win a game against Ambuscade at Mars, with Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon on the team. During the last round of the game, Ambuscade must have a bounty on him, and Chrono-Ranger must use Temporal Grenade to damage Ambuscade and destroy an environment card, but not deal the final blow.

I didn't use the grenade in the final round, so that can't be it.

Just got it on Android.  Thinks I can definitely say, I did NOT destroy an environment card with a Temporal Grenade.  I really think that it's:

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base.  Tachyon must be on the team.  Chrono-Ranger must damage Ambuscade with a Temporal Grenade.  Chrono-Ranger cannot deal the final blow.  No trap cards may go off.

I know that scifantasy said he might have had traps, but he also said he wasn't sure.  This game I added Parse to the bunch and manipulated his deck to make sure I never even saw a trap.

Question: did anyone win with Villain cards other than Ambuscade himself in play? The lore is that Tachyon cleaned up Wagner. Have there been any unlocks that happened even if Ambuscade had other cards on the board when he went down?

Also, as has been mentioned, are we 100% confirmed of the villain, environment, and even team requirements? Has anyone tried different locations/villains?

(The lore suggests we need all the elements, but that’s not evidence, it’s well-founded speciation.)

I just got the unlock, and it blows a couple of theories.  Team was Chrono, Legacy, Super-Scientific Tachyon, and Xtreme Captain Cosmic.  Chrono did jack-all: Just Doin' My Job and damaged the cloak a couple of times on turn 1, skipped turn 2 to destroy Meteor Storm, played and used Compounded Bow on Ambuscade on turn 3, and that was it.  Game ended when Unavoidable Explosive was revealed, damaging a Dynamic Syphon on Captain Cosmic and allowing him to retaliate and reduce Ambu to exactly 0 HP.  So there was a trap and there was no Temporal Grenade, or even a single bounty.

I've also attached another fail log for comparison. Because it's Android, I had to save the log before the final phase, but Guise basically wiped the board with Selling Out, leaving no environment or villain cards in play and clocking Ambuscade with Look What I Found.

Someone on Steam reports they got the unlock without CR doing anything. At all. All game.

So, could it be "win in Wagner against Ambuscade with Tachyon on the team, and when you win, no Villain cards or Environment cards in play"? To represent CR getting lost in the nothingness that is outside time?

(Or not necessarily against Ambuscade, not necessarily in Wagner, not necessarily with Tachyon, for that matter?)

My guess is:

Win a game against Ambuscade on Mars Wagner base with ChronoRanger on the team. Over the course of the game CR must damage Ambuscade with a temporal granade and must destroy explosives launcher and reactive plating. He may not be damaged by any trap cards or sonic mines.

Nah, a guy on Steam (and he provided logs) won with CR performing no actions other than skipping.  So, grenade is out as well as him performing any specific actions.  They have brought up the idea that maybe none of his bounties can trigger (since that's how he got stuck there) and obviously if you don't PLAY any, none will go off.

Nope, Broccoli's CR destroyed the cloaking device. Doesn't seem to be related to how much damage he deals to Ambuscade, either–there's a success where he dealt as much as 23 damage and a failure where he dealt only 2.

Ok, got it. I don’t know what was different from the last game.

Literally the ONLY thing Chrono-Ranger did was play a Temporal Grenade to destroy Charged Attacks, and discard cards to destroy environment cards.

Haka got the kill, everyone was alive, and upon his defeat, there were no other non-hero cards in play. Chrono-Ranger did no damage. Tachyon did some, but but much.

Also I had discarded a Bounty last game, but not this one. Maybe you can’t have any Bounties in your discard?
Also I had discarded a Bounty last game, but not this one. Maybe you can't have any Bounties in your discard?
You might be on to something with that one.  I just went through all the logs that were posted here.  There are only two failure logs, but both had bounties in the trash (although both were put there via their own effects).  None of the success logs had bounties in the trash, although I didn't find any in which a bounty entered the trash, came back out of the trash, and didn't go back in the trash again.

Edit: Unless there's an error, that's not it, or not only it.  Someone on Steam tested "Win with Chrono-Ranger (& Tachyon?) against Ambuscade in the Wagner Mars Base without playing a single bounty card. (Chrono-Ranger must land the killing blow?)" and it did not succeed.  It's possible you can't have a bounty in the trash and CR cannot land the killing blow.

Edit 2: Nope again, for sure.  There's an unlock on Steam with No Executions in the trash.

Not having any bounties in trash is entirely possible.

I tried everything that's been suggested with no luck, but I ran a game of Ambuscade in Mars vs TLT, Chrono, Legacy, Knyfe, and Tempest where Chrono took no actions, nor discarded any cards, and got the unlock!

Immeadiately before I left out Tachyon (Chrono, Legacy, Knyfe, Ra, Tempest,) with no luck so whether Ambuscade and Mars are necessary I think Tachyon definitely is.

Only card he played was temporal grenade to destroy a self destruct sequence. Parse used critical multiplier to pump Knyfe up and gank Ambuscade in one shot.

here is another log for the fail pile.

Tachyon, expatriette, CR, Haka

No environment cards were in play at the end of the game. CR played 3 bounties,  but not Kill on sight. Haka did the final hit. Ambuscade had 2 sonic mines out at game end. No bounties were in CR's discard pile. No traps went off. Temporal grenade was used to damage Ambuscade and destroy Maintenance Level.

Just got the unlock with some of the standards already mentioned: CR (and TL Tachyon) against Ambuscade in Wagner, Kill on Sight on Ambuscade, used Temporal Grenade to damage Ambuscade, someone other than CR and Tachyon delivering the final blow.

Then, when the unlock screen came up with the promo image, it hit me: he doesn't have his hat.

I'd lost his hat to Pervasive Red Dust and got the grenade back instead when it was destroyed, and ended the game without his hat. My previous attempts without the unlock, he had his hat at the end.

Could it be that simple? Win against Ambuscade in Wagner Base and Jim's Hat not be in play. (It would explain the do-nothing unlock.)

Here's my unlock: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ql9os6mpvsucsil/Chrono-Ranger%20unlock%20success.txt?dl=0

Chrono did nothing, and everyone else either played one-shots or used base powers only. (Young Legacy, KNYFE, Parse, TLT) Only environment cards I saw were Maintenance Levels and Oxygen Leaks which I destroyed using the shuffle/discard, a Meteor Storm which Chrono nixed by skipping his turn, the Weaponry which I destroyed by taking down its HP, and Fire in the Biosphere which is actually what took out Ambuscade's last 2 HP.

It's gotta be something really simple.

I played on iPad, so it's hard to remember, but I had ONE bounty trigger (the one where he gains 1 life at the beginning of the turn), and he had some equipment in play: His hat and a temporal grenade.
Self-destruct sequence was in play and it was stopped.

OK, tried F6 Tempest, Omnitron-X, SkyScraper and Chrono-Ranger vs. Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base. Chrono-Ranger did nothing but draw, but did discard a lot to get rid of environment effects.

Looking through the 8 unlock logs and 4 fail logs listed in this thread, I can see the following:

- All the passes are CR and Tachyon vs. Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base. Every Tachyon but the base Tachyon was used in the logs, but there are reports of base Tachyon being used in the unlock.

- All of the passes do not have CR deal the final damage.

- none of the unlocks have a bounty in the trash.

- In at least one of the passes, Ambuscade ended the game with "By Any Means" on him.

- In at least one of the passes, Ambuscade ended the game with "Ultimate Target" on him.

- In at least one of the passes, Ambuscade ended the game with "Kill on Sight" on him.

- In at least one of the passes, Ambuscade ended the game with "Dead or Alive" on him.

(At this point, I stopped checking bounties. I think we can safely say, putting bounties on Ambuscade is not an issue.)

- In at least one of the passes, Jim's Hat was in play at the end of the game.

- None of the passes have Hunter and Hunted in play.

-Bounty Board was not played in any of the Passes.

- At least one failure is matching all the above criteria so far. For reference, this is the fail log which has passed all this criteria:  https://greaterthangames.com/system/files/forum/attachments/log_40.txt. In this log, only Temporal Grenade, By Any Means and Dead or Alive were played by Chrono-Ranger. These have all been played in passes. One of the passes even has all these cards played. Also, in this failure, Chrono-Ranger did 0 damage. (never used his power)

One thing I noticed in this fail log was that Tachyon did the final damage. That did not happen in any of the other passes. Two of the failure logs cut off, so I can't see who dealt the final blow.

Based on the above data, if I had to take a stab at it:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither of them may deal the final blow to Ambuscade. No bounty cards may be in Chrono-Ranger's trash at the end of the game. (or possibly, no bounty cards may be in Chrono-Ranger's trash at any time during the game)

So tried CR, F6 Tachyon, Xtreme PW Captain Cosmic, Naturalist and Fugue State Parse against Ambuscade in Wagner. No unlock.

The idea was to break all the rules of my guess and then play again and again to narrow it down. In this case, Captain Cosmic finished off Ambuscade. Hunter and Hunted was played, but had been discarded by the end of the game. "By Any Means" was played on one of Ambuscade's devices, entered the trash when the device was destroyed, but was back in CR's deck due to Maintenance Level. Unless Hunter and Hunted is a gate to getting the unlock, and my theory is correct, it would seem to indicate you can't have a Bounty complete during the game. Modifying this:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither of them may deal the final blow to Ambuscade. No bounty cards may be placed in Chrono-Ranger's trash during the game. (or possibly enter the trash from play) (or possibly no bounty cards must destroy themselves)

Three things to try:

1) Have bounties enter CR's trash not from play. (being discarded from the deck or from his hand)

2) Have bounties enter CR's trash from play, but are destroyed by other means. (eg. have Tachyon or CR destory the bounty)

3) Play "The Ultimate Target" next to a device and destroy the device. The bounty will stay in play, but the target beside it is destroyed.

Yeah, I only parsed the log files; I didn't search back through individual posts to validate conclusions except about base Tachyon. Still, I'm inclined to believe Hunter and Hunted is not part of the equation and you have a pass where you didn't play it, so I'll believe you. I'll take it out of the equation.

Things we know from unlock logs

1 CR can deal damage (no large amount needed, but could have a restricted amount allowed)

2 CR can take damage (but don’t know if a specific type is not allowed)

3 CR can have bounties in play (Don’t know if a specific one is forbidden)

4 CR can have bounties in the trash (Don’t know if specific one is forbidden)

5 CR can but doesn’t have to deal the final blow

6 CR can but doesn’t have to destroy villian targets (specific ones may be forbidden)

7 CR can but doesn’t have to destroy environment targets (specific ones may be forbidden)

8 CR can but doesn’t have to play equipment (specifix ones may be forbidden)

Are there other pieces to the puzzle I am missing?

So then maybe something like:

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars base.  Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team.  No bounties can leave play.

That would make it okay to discard them, but not okay for them to be trigger by being destroyed.

That's OK. The question is whether we can have bounties on other targets and they are fulfilled. (i.e. the target is destroyed) Or as has been said above, they have been discarded from play. When Ambuscade is defeated, then the bounties aren't discarded because the game ends.

I lost doing the "CR does nothing" strategy, and the only differences between that and my successful one were:

I had discarded Ultimate Target

There were some villain/environment cards left

Haka and Argent Adept were not present (probably not important)

Tachyon got the final blow.

Rigged to Detonate did not asplode, but did during my successful game.

So maybe it has to be a 5-player game? Ambuscades traps have to activate? who knows?

Here's the rule I was following:

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base.  Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon must be on the team.  Neither Chrono-Ranger nor Tachyon may deal the finishing blow to Ambuscade.  No Bounties in play may be destroyed.

In a previous game I did the same stuff but killed with ChronoRanger and did not unlock.  I should've tried having Tach do it but... oh well.

Chrono Ranger did most of the damage to Ambuscade in this game -- Tachyon did only 4 points or so.  Here's a list of all the bounties I stuck on Ambuscade:  Ultimate Target, By Any Means, Dead or Alive.

I basically played ChronoRanger the way I normally would, except I made sure to only put bounties on Ambuscade.  Could that be a missing factor?  Maybe you have to only put bounties on Ambuscade.

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base.  Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon must be on the team and must not deal the finishing blow to Ambuscade.  All Bounties played must be played on Ambuscade, and no Bounties in play may be destroyed.

Just unlocked twice on Steam/Mobile

Team: Chrono-Ranger, Team-Leader Tachyon, America's Greatest Legacy, Absolute Zero

In both games, I only played Bounties on Ambuscade, and made sure that he had none of his devices in play when he was defeated. Both games, Absolute Zero got the final hit in.

In one of the games, I did have an environment card (Maintenance Level) in play.

I never saw a trap in one game; in the other, Tachyon prevented the damage via Hypersonic Assault in the other, so no confirmation there.

Got it first try on both devices, so nothing to suggest that I did differently.

So I was hoping to not get an unlock, but I did.

Chrono Ranger did even less than he does in the other double-skip approaches.  He skipped his phases every turn and even refused to draw any cards.  He didn't skip his turn for the Meteor Storm.  He didn't even discard cards to get rid of Pervasive Red Dust!  The only thing he did was take damage and healed a few HP due to Motivational Charge.  Oh, I guess he did also shuffle his deck once for Maintenance Level, but nothing else.

So yeah, the conditions almost certainly have to be something that CR doesn't do, perhaps.  We can test if Tachyon dealing final damage is important with this method too.

The log is attached.

The failed attempts are likely due to known causes: Tachyon dealing final damage and a bounty on Personal Cloaking Device destroying itself.

One thing to note on the success though was the player order: Legacy, Freedom Six Tachyon, Xtreme Prime Wardens Captain Cosmic, The Argent Adept and Chrono-Ranger

It would seem to indicate there is player order required.

FYI, last night, I tried the known passing conditions, but at Freedom Tower. No unlock, unsurprisingly, but I wanted to make sure.

All right, I just went through every single log both here and on Steam, and I discovered something interesting: 100% of the successes and failures are described by this:

 • No bounties can be played on any target other than Ambuscade
 • Tachyon cannot deal the final blow

And that's it.  There isn't a single log, success or failure, in which Chrono-Ranger deals the final blow and also did not play a bounty on a target other than Ambuscade.  So right now, my theory is just this:

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base with Chrono-Ranger and any variant of Tachyon on the team.  Ambuscade must not be destroyed by Tachyon.  Bounties cannot be played on any target other than Ambuscade.

That said, there are subsets of this that can still be tested.  I can't tell whether Chrono is allowed to deal the final blow.  I can't tell if bounties can be played on other targets as long as their "when that target is destroyed" text is not triggered.  There's also an off-chance that it just has to not be on Tachyon's turn--i.e. if it's fine if she deals the final damage as long as it's on someone else's turn, but that's a niche case.  And also no one tried Sucker Punch as the winning move, but again that's a niche case.

I'm pretty sure that Ambuscade and Wagner Mars Base are required thematically, but no one who violated that assumption posted logs.

Four attempts: vanilla Tachyon, CR, Legacy, Ra, and Haka in that order vs Ambuscade in all cases.

First - Non-Tachyon final damage, CR used double skip on all turns, the difference is that I played in the Block. All subsequent tries in Wagner Mars Base. No unlock.

Second - Non-Tachyon final damage, CR double skipped except for that he played a single bounty (Kill on Sight) on an automated turret on his last turn and it remained in play until the game ended on Haka's turn that round. No unlock.

Third - Same setup, CR double skipped until his last turn at which point he played Terrible Tech Strike, which defeated Ambuscade. No unlock.

Fourth - Non-Tachyon final damage, CR always double skipped. Unlock successful.

Then I have to admit the lack of a confirmation message from MigrantP is completely baffling me. We’ve been postulating basically the same thing for a while now–Ambuscade, Wagner, Chrono, any Tachyon, no bounties on anything but Ambuscade, neither Chrono nor Tachyon can deal the final blow. There must be some niche alternate success or failure condition we haven’t encountered yet.

Do they both have to survive? Do the heroes even have to win?

No log because I am not sure how to get one from Kindle but I used

Team Leader Tachyon, Chrono Ranger, Legacy, Ra, and Haka against Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base.

Team Leader Tachyon did not deal the final blow to Ambuscade or even target him with any one shots although Ambuacade did get hit by some Hyper Sonic Assaults.

Chrono Ranger Double Skipped on most of his turns. He did shuffle his empty trash into his deck twice for Maintenance level and he skipped to end the Meteor Storm. On his turn of the final round of the game, He played The Whole Gang on Ambuscade.

I'd suggest that people stop winning by having CR skip all his actions.  We know that works, but that doesn't help narrow down the actual requirements.  So far I think these are pretty solid:

Win a game against Ambuscade in Wagner Mars Base.  Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon must be on the team.

Here are some things to try out:

1) Play bounties only on Ambuscade, but destroy one or more (using Jim's Hat, Temporal Grenades, or other means).  Don't let CR or Tach die or throw the final blow.

2) Play bounties on targets other than Ambuscade, but don't destroy any of them.  (This may involve letting him keep one of his pieces of gear until the end of the game.) Don't let CR or Tach die or throw the final blow.

3) Play bounties only on Ambuscade and don't destroy any, but let Tachyon go down in the fight.

4) Play bounties only on Ambuscade and don't destroy any, and have Tach throw the final blow.

5) Play bounties only on Ambuscade and don't destroy any, and have ChronoRanger throw the final blow.

Chrono-Ranger did double skip the whole game. F6 used Team Leader frequently, Fleet of Foot, a few Nimble Strikes and one Hypersonic Assault. Otherwise, she skipped. Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon got knocked out by Ambuscade. No unlock.

At this point, I see it as:

Defeat Ambuscade in Wanger Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither of them can deal the final blow against Ambuscade. No bounties can destroy themselves.

Then add one of the following:

1) Chrono-Ranger must not be incapacitated.

2) Tachyon must not be incapacitated.

3) Neither Chrono-Ranger nor Tachyon can be incapacitated.

4) None of the heroes may be incapacitated.

To test this, I would likely have Chrono-Ranger and another hero incapacitated (besides Tachyon). Assuming no unlock, the same thing with Tachyon and one hero incapacitated. Assuming no unlock, only Chrono-Ranger incapacitated. Assuming no unlock, only Tachyon incapacitated. These should be ordered in "most likely to fail" to "most likely to unlock".

I think you may need to add the clause about both Tachyon and CR not being incapacitated.

He is adding it, he just doesn't know which version to add.  Further testing will determine which of the four is the correct one to add.

Got the unlock: https://pastebin.com/MbQNAw2E

Tachyon, CR, Setback, O-X, and Adamant Sentinels vs. Ambuscade at Wagner.

No Sonic Mines entered play; one Unavoidable Explosive was played but never triggered.

Tachyon contributed very little -- 4 damage to Ambuscade from a pair of Hypersonic Assaults, and 0-2 to each of the Devices.

CR played every bounty except No Executions, all on Ambuscade. None of them left play mid-game.

CR never dealt damage to Ambuscade himself, but did 29 (total) to Devices and Environment targets, including destroying a few targets.

Setback dealt the finishing blow to Ambuscade.

Someone on Steam claimed they got an unlock with Chrono incapped, but they also didn't post a log. :P

Someone on Steam has also created a spreadsheet of info from the logs of people on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/app/337150/discussions/0/1488861734121361905/?ctp=3#c1483232961034683110

I don't know that I'm contributing anything new but I got the unlock with the following:

Ambuscade on Wagner Mars Base

Chrono Ranger, F6 Tachyon, KNYFE, Old Man Legacy

Chrono Ranger did nothing the whole game, even going so far as to only discard a card for Maintenance Level and nothing else. I tried to have him interact with the Enviroment Deck as little as possible.

Tachyon did some damage to Ambuscade but not the killing blow, and used Push the Limits, Blinding Speed, Lightning Reflexes, Quick Insight, HUD Goggles, Hypersonic Assault, Fleet of Foot, Sonic Vortex and Nimble Strike.

KNYFE did the bulk of the damage, as well as taking the bulk of the damage. Not sure Ambuscade hit CR even once.

Old Man Legacy helped KNYFE do damage.

Enviroment deck played...*thinks*...Fire in the Biosphere, Maintenance Level, Self-Destruct Sequence (Destroyed by Blinding Speed), Prevasive Red Dust and Meteor Swarm.

There were no cards in Ambuscade play area, or the Enviroments play area when KNYFE dealt the finishing blow.

Alright, 2 failed attempts that should provide some light on the matter. Both games were Chrono-Ranger, Tachyon, Legacy, Ra and Naturalist vs. Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. In both games, Chrono-Ranger and Tachyon skipped all their turns.

Game 1: Tachyon and Ra were incapacitated and the heroes won.

Game 2: Tachyon was incapacitated and the heroes won.

There are really only 2 possibilities that I see:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither may deliver the final blow. No bounties in play may destroy themselves. Tachyon must not be incapacitated.

--- OR ----

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither may deliver the final blow. No bounties in play may destroy themselves. Chrono-Ranger is the only hero which may be incapacitated.

But I'm going with option 1. I just don't have time to test it tonight.

It's slow going when you're purposely trying to not unlock and prove theories. To paraphrase Nathan Hale:

"I only regret, that I have but one unlock to lose for my community."

OK, and now I'm out of tries with a successful unlock, so hopefully this is the one.

Chrono-Ranger, F6 Tachyon, Legacy, Ra and Sentinels vs. Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. I let Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger do whatever they wanted short of taking out Ambuscade and having bounties destroy themselves.

At the end of the game, Chrono-Ranger and the Sentinels were incapacitated. Legacy dealt the final blow. Therefore:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither may deliver the final blow to Ambuscade. No bounties in play may destroy themselves. Tachyon must not be incapacitated.

I'm not sure if we've nailed down the exact requirements of the bounty rule, but I haven't been paying close enough attention to know what needs to be tested.

If anything, I agree it's the bounty rule that is not nailed down. What seems possible is that if the bounty is played on a target that's not Ambuscade, and that target is destroyed, than there is no unlock. We have seen bounties in Chrono-Ranger's trash, however, so that is not it on its own.

There are a few other possibilities that haven't been tested:

1) It might only be villain targets that can't be targets of a bounty. In that case, we should try placing a bounty on Villainous Weaponry and destroying Villainous Weaponry to trigger the bounty.

2) I believe someone has tested destroying bounties from play using Blinding Speed and other such cards. I don't know if anyone has tested doing it with Jim's Hat. It could be that none of Chrono-Ranger's cards may destroy a bounty.

3) It could be that no target besides Ambuscade may be destroyed if a bounty is beside it. This is important because "The Ultimate Target" does not destroy itself when the target it is placed beside is destroyed, so you can still fulfill the bounty but not have the bounty destroyed.

To narrow down these possibilities, you should try violating all 3 of these rules at once. If no unlock occurs, we know one of these rules is the one to use. Then, we violate 2 of the rules to narrow it down further. And if no unlock occurs, then we only violate one of those 2 rules to nail it down.

To violate all 3 rules:

1) Play a bounty on a villain target that is not Ambuscade and then destory it with Jim's Hat.

2) Play any bounty besides "The Ultimate Target" on Villainous Weaponry and then destory Villainous Weaponry.

3) Play "The Ultimate Target" on any villain target that is not Ambuscade and then destroy that target.

And also follow all the standard rules: Tachyon must not be incapacitated, Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger cannot incapacitate Ambuscade, do not destory any targets with a bounty beside it. (besides Ambuscade)

The more I think about it, it's likely:

Defeat Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base. Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger must be on the team and neither may deliver the final blow to Ambuscade. No targets with a bounty beside them may be destroyed, except Ambuscade. Tachyon must not be incapacitated.

Yes. It’s pretty clear now that we know what ChronoRanger must to do (nothing).

Now we’re trying to figure out what he can’t do.

Right, so testing if bounties matter is irrelevant. QuirkyDM's recommendations to play bounties is moot.

I might try the following:

1) Mars base sans Tachyon

2) Tachyon n a different environment

3)  A game against a with a villain who isn't Ambuscade

I also tried the unlock condition except in Magmaria. No unlock.

I don't think the bounties search is moot. We've seen conditions with bounties being played on villain targets and then being destroyed and that appears to have prevented the unlock. But playing bounties on Ambuscade is allowed, as has been shown in other unlocks. We might not have figured out the exact conditions of playing or destroying bounties that causes the unlock. A more precise definition of this requirement may still need to be defined.

That being said, there may be other variables we haven't hit yet. But I don't know what other options to pursue.

Folks are forgetting one of WalkingTarget's games:

This strongly suggests that bounties cannot be played at all on Automated Turrets at least.  Perhaps not on any targets other than Ambuscade, perhaps not on devices or villain targets or some other subset.  But bounties being triggered/destroyed is irrelevant.

It still looks like it's: Ambuscade, Wagner, Chrono, any Tachyon; neither Chrono nor Tachyon can deal the final blow; no bounties can be played on a target other than Ambuscade; Tachyon must not be incapacitated.

There may be other fail conditions we're not hitting, such as other hero incaps, specific bounties, or specific types of target that bounties can't be played on.  Technically we haven't even tested to see if you have to win the game; with Self-Destruct it's possible to lose with no heroes incapped.  And maybe Chrono or Tachyon can deal the final blow but not on their turns.  At this point I'm kind of inclined to just wait another 4 1/2 hours to see if the devs will throw us a hint in tonight's stream.  It wouldn't be helpful if they showed us how to succeed (we know that), but maybe they can show us a way to fail that we haven't encountered/defined yet.

Try 1: Ambuscade on Wagner with no Tachyon. Chrono only drew cards and discarded for an oxygen leak. No unlock.

Try 2: Unlock. Used Tachyon, specifically made sure Chrono killed lots of villain targets, but not Ambuscade, only Bounty played was on Ambuscade. Log attached.

Sorry, that probably wasn't too much help. D:

The community has discovered the official unlock condition for Chrono-Ranger: Best of Times!

Win a game against Ambuscade in the Wagner Mars Base with any versions of Tachyon and Chrono-Ranger on the team. Tachyon must not be incapacitated. Chrono-Ranger must not play any bounties on targets other than Ambuscade. Neither Tachyon nor Chrono-Ranger may deal the final blow to Ambuscade.

I hope it is, because I already feel like I know where to start.

In Megalopolis (her character cards are there), vs Baron Blade (he makes her new tech), and switch to all 3 sizes in one turn. Maybe with Proportionist in play. Possibly using multiple powers, but idk if that’s really possible without Captain Cosmic/Argent Adept.

Getting all 3 sizes in one turn is pretty trivial to pull off. It could be as tough as Hunted Naturalist- beat 3 different villains in 3 different sizes.

And heaven help us if we have to face Kaargra.

I think that the best part of the solution is the specification that you can use any version of Chrono Ranger for the unlock.  Meaning, you can use Best of Times Chrono Ranger to unlock Best of Times Chrono Ranger.

Assuming you can somehow time travel, that is.
