I imagine the variant isn’t QUITE out yet, but there’s no way this isn’t this week’s unlock, so let’s have a thread for it, ready for when it DOES become available.

Tried putting over 10 devices under Savage Mana in Omnitron IV while using each of Haka's "Haka" cards... no unlock.

On my tablet, so no log for this one, but Haka in Temple of Zhu Long. Used Enduring Intercession, took a bunch of environment redirects, died, and was resurrected before winning. No unlock.

Currently working on tanking a mess of fire damage in Magmaria using Enduring Intercession.  Unfortunately the first Behemoth came out on turn 1...

Took damage from Megalopolis stuff (2x Monorail, 1x Targeting Innocents, 1x Impending Casualty) down to 1 HP with Haka, recovered all the way to full, won at full HP with Intercession still out. Nothing doing.

It’s not have Haka take all the damage from the wasteland cryptically have 3 dominions in play, and savage mana gloom weaver for 74 damage (and essentially redrawing giants whole deck in the process)

I just had a hell of a failure.

Vs. Ambuscade in Magmaria. Used all 4 damaging powers, had Enduring Intercession out. (And took 15 damage through it in one turn.) Had every single device, all Magmarians, and one Dodongo under Savage Mana, then used a Haka of Battle (which emptied my deck) and dumped every card I had (32). Dealt Ambuscade 67 damage in one Savage Mana burst, bringing him to -51.

NO UNLOCK!

So, I’m guessing one of three things is true.

First, I either had to have ALL non-hero targets, but since I had all villain targets and one of each environment target, that seems a bit unlikely.

Second, I did something I wasn’t supposed to. Maybe I shouldn’t have used Mere or Taiaha, for instance.

Or, third, Magmaria is not the correct environment.

I have two ideas if anyone wants to try with me in different environments

1) heal more health than your maximum (more than 34)

2) deal 0 damage

What's the most METAL environment we haven't already seen?

Insula Primalis? Pretty METAL

Court of Blood? DEATH METAL

Dok'Thorath? Beat the system, man.

Enclave of the Endlings? Uhhh...

The only other METAL environment I can think of is The Block.

No dice.

failed attempt:

Ambuscade VS Haka, and the rest of the XPW team in Rook City.

specifically i was trying to go for a big amount of damage with Savage Mana. everyone was alive, and ended up doing 34 pts of damage. nothing really special happened, so i dunno what else to put besides that.

Took Haka down to Rook City, tried out a game in which he never dealt damage (against Ambuscade). I also used all the Hakas, and used one Haka with a 9-card feed, as well as redirecting a ton of environment damage to Haka.

No unlock.

Failed attempt:  Give Haka the title of "Reckless" (which has him gain an HP the first time each turn he takes damage).  However, I lost that game, so it's still within the realm of possibilities (though I hope not, since that would be a pain).

Prime Wardens Haka already required Ambuscade, so requiring him again seems unlikely.

Tried one mega-game in Magmaria, in which I did the following things:

  • Had Haka kill all environment targets and put them under Savage Mana
  • Redirect a substantial amount of damage to himself via Enduring Intercession (melee and fire)
  • Finish the game at full HP and often receive healing to put himself over full
  • Play all three Haka cards
  • Collect all three Smoldering Crystals and have them in hand at the end of the game
  • Have all Haka's ongoing and equipment cards in play, including Ground Pound, at the end of the game
  • Have 29 cards under Savage Mana at the end of the game
  • Overkill Gloomweaver substantially using his base power

No unlock.

What if it has to do with redirecting villian damage to Haka. Perhaps a game with Visionary, Tachyon, and Mr. Fixer is in order.

No unlock to date has required using a mechanic that a hero can't do by themselves, or against a required villain, or in a required environment.  Since he can't redirect villain damage to himself by himself, I'm confident that won't be required.

Random game of Haka, Naturalist and Bunker vs. The Chairman in Time Cataclysm.

Haka destroyed every non-hero target in the game with Punish the Weak while those targets were the weakest target and put them under Savage Mana. (including the Chairman, because it was fun) Did a whole lot of damage with Rampages, but none to the heroes. At the end, 22 cards under Savage Mana plus a 33 point Haka of Battle boost took out the Operative.

No unlock.

DW Nightmist required rolling two 4s with Oblivion, and she can't stack the deck by herself.

TLT required using Fleet of Foot five times, and she can't pull cards out of the trash by herself.

Old Legacy required not even using Legacy in the game.

Technically the first 2 can be done by themselves. Might not be the easiest way though.

Pydro already commented on the first two but Greatest Legacy is more of an exception rather than the rule.  It's also why he is the only variant so far that can't be unlocked in multiplayer since no player is controlling the hero being unlocked.

Still, though, the statement was no unlock to date required a character to do something they couldn't normally.

I really don't think there are hard and fast rules like that. We've seen a number of different combinations required. If I was to speculate, I'd say these unlocks are probably less complex than some in the past because of their relatively rapid-fire nature. Christopher and the game devs probably realize that if it's taking us weeks to figure out each of them, the whole thing's going to get bogged down and frustrating. Better to let them be simpler and let the excitement of the hunt get both rewarded with success and renewed each week.

Unlock achieved.

Legacy, Wraith and Haka in Magmaria vs Ambuscade.

Cards defnitely played: Ta Moko, Elbow Smash, Dominion (but not all three), Ground Pound, Vitality Surge, Rampage, Punish the Weak.

Cards definitely not played: Any of the Hakas, Taiaha, Mere, Enduring Intercession, Savage Mana.

Haka did all the work killing things (Magmarian, Device, Crystalloid Behemoth, didn't really matter. If it was there, Haka punched it, just in case). Wraith and Legacy did damage but no kills. Some devices and a magmarian died to charged attacks damage (Wraith drew precisely zero Grappling Hooks so that card was extra painful). Taiaha would have made it a lot easier!

No Savage Mana, Enduring Intercession, weapons, or Hakas makes this much easier (and nearly the opposite of what I would have guessed).  He didn't kill all the Magmen.  How many Behemoths did he kill?  (One of my guesses was that he had to kill all three.)

With Rampage, there might have been a requirement to deal a certain amount of damage (possibly without using weapons or Haka of Battle).

Well, I can work with this.  Back to Magmaria!

Oh hey, I can attach things on the forum!

This is a non-unlock game, I was just kind of messing around to see how easy this is to get. Haka played all of Ground Pound and Savage Mana, killed a bunch of stuff, only ate one because he got SM late in the game. I was specifically trying to avoid Taiaha and Mere, but that's not enough by itself.

Got it.

Ambuscade, Magmaria. Using normal Haka, Greatest Legacy, Tempest, Argent Adept, and Captain Cosmic.

Played Savage Mana, and won with it. No hakas, no weapons used. Also did not use Enduring Intercession.

I made sure to defeat every Magmarian at least once using damage from Haka. No other hero defeated any targets. All of them dealt damage, but no ko's with anyone except Haka (and the villain and environment.) Argent Adept destroyed a handful of non-targets, though.

Got it as well.  Unfortunately it's very close to pwatson's.  I played exactly the cards he described and no others and had no other heroes kill anything.  FS Parse, G.Legacy, F6 Tempest, and Haka vs. Gloomweaver in Magmaria.  Haka did kill and collect all three behemoths and collected all three smoldering crystals.  However, I do have a log (omitting the last power phase in which I won, because Android).  The final move was to have Parse use her power, which enabled Tempest to heal everyone to full and Haka to play Rampage to wipe the board.

Just played a game against Ambuscade in Magmaria.
Haka killed every target, and only played Rampage, elbow smash, 1 Dominion, and that’s it. No unlock.

I suspect I needed to deal more damage and/or destroy more targets; I only saw about 6. It was a very short game.

Interesting pwatson, I also had an attempt with Haka doing the majority of the work without unlock.  There may have been a few kills here or there, but Haka was trying to kill everything to get it under Savage Mana.  He got all the Magamarians, not quite all the Crystalloid Behmoth's and many of Ambuscade's targets (and even a Decoy Projection).

I'm attaching the failed log for comparison purposes (with my game rewinds removed).

Edit:  Hmm, I see no kills from other heroes, the only other kill via damage was a Crystalloid Behemoth taking out a Sonic Mine.  This is interesting...

Yep, you played both Taiaha and Mere. TakeWalker and McBehrer both didn't destroy many targets, so I'm suspecting it's something like: In Magmaria, win a game in which Haka destroyed at least 10 targets and did not play (or use) either Taiaha or Mere.

Ok I got it. I had Haka, regular Legacy, F6 Tachyon, RC Wraith, and Dark Visionary. I only killed guys with Haka and put all the Magma targets under Savage Mana. I was playing Ambuscade and put most of his targets under SM as well. Once I had all the Magmen under SM I killed Ambuscade on one shot from SM. No weapons in play. I had Dominion, Tia Moko, and Sm as my ongoings. Also I did not use any Haka cards.

I did it. Vs Voss in Magmaria.

I had destroyed 19 targets and put them under Savage Mana. 13 Minions, 6 environment targets. (One of each Magmarian, one or more of several Minions, but not all, one teleporter, and Tamar.) Did not play Mere or Taiaha, or any of the Hakas, but did play Ta Moko, Intercession, Punish the Weak, and all 3 Dominion. Also a Vitality Surge, at one point, and many Rampages.

(What if it’s “regain HP, reduce damage, and destroy… 10? Targets during your turns, without using either weapon or any Haka?” You know, emulating the effects of the Hakas, but with just your “bare hands,” so to speak?)

Ok, so playing Hakas is safe.
And since I destroyed 19 targets, it’s likely that the number of required targets is around 10-15. (Or it’s 20, and the villain counts.)

I just unlocked using Baron Blade in Magmaria.  Team was Visionary, Legacy, Wraith, and Haka.

Game 1: Used no weapons, no ground pounds, no intercessions, but did use my hakas and savage mana; no unlock.

Game 2: Used no weapons, no hakas, no intercession, but did use 2 ground pounds and finished it with a rampage; unlock successful.   I only destroyed 13 targets with Haka (including Blade himself), but I did kill one of each Magmarian along the way.

Haka dealt final blow to Ambuscade.

Unlocked. Ambuscade in Magmaria with GrandaPa Legacy, Wraith and Haka. Played no Hakas and no equipment. Did play Elbow Smash, Ta Moko, Punnish the weak, Dominion, Savage Mana, and Healing Surge. I collected one of each magmarian under savage mana. Haka did take fire damage from a granade launcher. It most likely has to do with either playing no equipment, no Hakas or both while defeating one of each magmarian. I don't think damage type taken by haka will matter.

No unlock.

Had a game where Haka did very little- played no ongoings or equipment. He did discard equipment to have them count as crystals. I used Haka of Battle for a 20+ hit on Ambuscade. A behemoth hit everyone for 4 at the start, but then Naturalist clamped down on environment damage after that. Haka never dealt the final blow to anyone. Minimal information here, but I'll start playing games where Haka does very little and work his way up.

Got it. Team of Wraith, Legacy and Haka, Wraith got Megacomputers out to minimize damage (but only 2, so we could still grab the crystals). Haka was the only one who destroyed targets. All Magmarians were under Savage Mana, along with a bunch of zombies and cultists for a total of 16. Finished it by blowing up Gloomweaver with Savage Mana (and learned that you can discard the crystals to boost Haka of Battle, too!). Has anyone gotten an unlock without using Savage Mana?

My guess:

Win a game using Haka in Magmaria. At some point during the game, Haka must destroy at least 15 cards in a single turn.

I'm thinking that it's probably something Haka is doing "accidentally" as he plays, thus, I think we can all agree that the starting conditions are:

Win a game in Magmaria with Haka on the team.  Haka cannot play any equipment cards.  Also,

and the possible thing you could be doing "accidentally" could be:

Haka must heal at least X hp.

or

Haka must deal at least X damage.

or

Haka must draw at least X cards.

or possibly even

Haka must shuffle his deck at least X times.

The first one makes the most sense with the promo, but the rest are things Haka might likely do during a game, without you really intending to, kinda like Tempest's unlock condition.  I also wouldn't be surprised if he needs to play Ta Moko, since, again, it works with the theme of the promo. Thus, I'll guess

Win a game in Magmaria with Haka on the team.  Haka must play Ta Moko and cannot play any equipment cards.  Haka must heal 10 hp during the game.

Ambuscade vs. Haka, Tempest, Greatest Legacy in Magmaria

Never played any of Haka's equipment. Dominion, Ta Moko, Savage Mana, punish the weak in play. Haka used crush every turn. All Magmarians  were defeated with Haka getting the kill shot.

Haka was NOT the only hero to destroy Targets. He was the only hero to destroy environment targets, but not the only hero to destroy environment cards.

Haka definitely healed at least 10 hp, largely from Cleansing downpour.

Just had a thought related to "things me might do on accident".  What about:

Win a game with Haka in Magmaria.  Haka cannot play any equipment and must take 34 points of damage over the course of the game.

I figure that he has a decent amount of healing, and with lots of us using Argent or Granpda to boostl him, it could occur easily.  I had a game on Steam where I played "exactly" like my (very long) game on Android, but no dice.  I played again and made sure to have Tachyon smack the bajesus out of Haka, and I got the unlock.  Obviously, there could be lots of reasons, but I thought it was worth postulating, and it would be really good thematically.

I know I didn't take nearly that much damage (Legacy tanked most of it).

No unlock.

TLT, America's Finest Legacy, Naturalist, Haka, Captain Cosmic vs. Ambuscade in Magmaria.

No damage was done to the heroes by the environment. No damage taken by the heroes from the environment.

Haka played Vitality Surge, Ta Moko, Haka of Battle and Haka of Shielding. Did a fair amount of damage, but only took out a few targets, including Ambuscade. Haka did discard some equipment as crystals to draw cards.

Hm. Haka had Punish the Weak, Dominion, and Savage Mana in play. Had all of the Magmarians under Savage Mana. No unlock.

Perhaps Ta Moko is necessary?

I agree, I think Ta Moko is necessary.

Side note:  I'm a bit shocked at how few people are using XPW Argent Adept for these super teams.  He's AMAZING in this context (or any).

TLT and Grandpa Legacy were my old go tos, but XPW AA gives essentially full turns to the hero you're trying to have do things with no equipment, and just the small cost of 1-2 HP.

People keep suggesting this, even though it was proven incorrect from the very beginning.

It looks like Ta Moko is required (which makes sense) and Mere and Taiaha cannot be used (not clear if they can be played and just not used).

I just checked my log, and my successful unlock did have one round in which Haka destroyed nothing and dealt no damage, so that's not it.

Every unlock I've seen so far do have him playing both Elbow Smash and Rampage–and since those are his two melee attack cards, that may not be a coincidence.  So right now my best guess is: win a game in Magmaria, Haka must play Ta Moko, Elbow Smash, and Rampage, but not Mere or Taiaha.

XPW Haka Unlocked https://pastebin.com/GLWFBv1P

Both had Voss in Magmaria with Old Legacy, TLT, Wraith, Haka, and AA.

In both attempts Haka did all the killing with liberal use of Elbow and Rampage. He did not play Mere or Taiaha. Haka had the final blow in both games.

In the failed attempt Haka did not play Enduring Intercession and failed to kill all of the Magmarians.

In the successful attempt Haka did play Enduring Intercession and killed all of the Magmarians.

I have to say, Vanilla Argent Adept is my favorite.

PW is too unpredictable, XPW is too slow, and Dark Conductor/Kvothe is too swingy.

While original AA is definitely the most generally versatile, the goal of most of these unlocks is for the target Hero to do things, and XPW AA can make this happen every turn from turn 1 with no setup required.

PWAA might be a little unpredictable, but there are very few cards of his that would be detrimental to play. About the only one would be Polyphoric Flare, but there's only two of those in the deck, and the risk is well worth being able to double his card plays. Plus it lets you get a double play out of Arcane Cadence, while with normal AA, putting a card at the bottom of the deck puts it effectively out of reach.

OK, went through the logs a bit. I see 5 success logs on these forums and a handful of failures as well.

In all the success logs, the four cards played in common are: Rampage, Ta Moko, Dominion and Elbow Smash.

However, there is at least one failure log where those same four cards were played and the weapons were not played, so the cards themselves are definitely not enough. (https://pastebin.com/RnZbFGvC)

It is not based on total damage done to Haka. The pass logs range from 13-36 damage done to Haka. The same failure log listed above has 18 damage done to Haka.

It is not damage dealt to Haka that is reduced. We have a Pass where only 5 damage is reduced and others with much more reduced, but the above failure log has only 6 damage reduced.

The above failure has Haka destory 16 targets. (not including Savage Mana destroying targets) Another pass has Haka destroying only 13 targets. I didn't check the types of targets.

Hopefully that gives someone some insight on what we need.

Maybe it's about Haka drawing cards through Dominion?

QU

That's very possible with all the Rampages being thrown around. And Savage Mana will let you double dip on Dominion, getting cards when you destory the environment target and again when you destroy them under Savage Mana.

Plus Dominion being non-Limited, so you can get up to three draws per destruction.

Here are more things that do not explain DeviantQuail's failure (looking through logs):

  • Having Haka destroy a certain number of targets with Crush specifically, unless it's a strange number.  (Quail destroyed 6, but one success had 8.)
  • Having Haka destroy 2 Behemoths.  (One success had only one.)
  • Drawing a certain number of cards from Dominion, unless it's a strange number (Coincidentally, Quail again got 6, but one success got 8.)
  • Regaining a certain number of HP (Quail healed Haka for 15, my first other comparison healed him for only 11.)
  • Playing Rampage or Elbow Smash a certain number of times, or killing a certain number of targets with either (I played Rampage only once for 5 kills, which Quail outdid, and Quail played all 3 Elbows for a kill each; another played only 2 for zero kills).

It could involve Ta Moko preventing a certain amount of damage.  Quail's failure had it reduce damage by only 2 points total (it came out late).  The next-lowest one I could find had it prevent 7 points.

I checked prevented damage, but that doesn't work either. GainzofCastamere's pass log only has Ta Moko prevent 5 damage.

Well, it's not just card draw.

I tried a game in which the only cards Haka played were Ta Moko, two Dominions, Elbow Smash and Rampage, and then he let everyone else pound on the environment and drew about sixteen cards. No one died. No unlock.

I've got a failed unlock for people to look at (which I finally learned how to find). https://pastebin.com/f9nZkQXf

It was Haka, TLT, GP Legacy, and Xtreme AA against Ambuscade in Magmaria.

Haka played two Dominions, Savage Mana, Punish the Weak, Ta Moko, Rampage, and Elbow Smash, and did not play Mere, Taiaha, Enduring Intercession, or any Hakas.

Haka destroyed a lot of devices and a behemoth, but only one magmarian (it was the only one that came out all game), which I suspect was the problem.

If it's just killing Magmarians, that would be similar to Fanatic and a little disappointing. I had a similar game as FrivYeti with no unlock. Perhaps time to check logs for environment targets that have been destoryed, done damage or otherwise interacting with Haka.

Another fail for the pile.

https://pastebin.com/zA21fYBV

Definitely included Ta Moko, Enduring Intercession, Dominion (x2), Elbow Smash, and Rampage. The only other cards that I played were hakas, and Haka killed all of the Magmarian environment targets plus most of the Ambuscade targets. Ta Moko reduced a lot of damage, and I drew a lot of cards.

No unlock.

*EDIT* I just had a thought, but I don't have time to comb through the existing logs. Could it be related to Haka using Magma Crystal powers in some way?

I don't think the Magma Crystals have anything to do with it. The only hero to hold a Magma Crystal in my game was Legacy (one of the Behemoths) and he never discarded it. The rest were either still in play or under Savage Mana.

This time I brought Rook City Wraith along to bring out Magmarians to kill.  Haka destroyed every Magmarian and at least 2 if not all 3 behemoths.  The other main difference between this game and my last fail was that Haka never played Savage Mana, Enduring Intercession, or Punish the Weak.

To use a crystal you discard it, so while people have said they haven’t used the crystals particularly, have they discarded much? Seeing as that’s something Haka can do a fair bit of himself too.

Has anyone else noticed the "CheckForIncrement: Is final damage" text at the end of the logs this time?  I'm not sure I've seen it before, and I just did a test outside of Magmaria without Haka and I didn't see that text in that log either.

Could that text be related to the unlock condition?

If so, it would seem that things are based on total damage.  Could it be that the unlock condition is Haka doing more total damage than any other hero (or more than all the other heroes summed together), perhaps?  Do we have any logs to disprove that?

I believe that’s related to the achievement that involves heroes landing the killing blow on their nemeses a certain number of times.
.
I didn’t have Haka discard much, if anything, but I did have Parse, so much discarding occurred.
.
I’m not at a computer today, but has anyone checked for Punish the Weak yet?

I noticed that, but since this is the first time I've ever looked at logs, I assumed it was always there.  Nice catch!  It seems like you might be on to something, but I can disprove your suggestion with my second failed unlock.  In that game, Haka dealt 142 damage, Wraith dealt 29, Tachyon dealt 19, and Legacy and AA each dealt 10, so Haka was well over the sum of their damage.  Perhaps there's a damage threshold we have to reach, but it would have to be really high.

Things that were specifically tried:

All equipment out.

No cards in deck.

All haka's doing at least 10 of their respective.

Redirecting (A CRAP TON) of damage to Haka via Enduring

Haka got all the magmaria crystals

Haka discarded all the magmaria crystals, at least once for each of the various effects discarding could do.

A haka using his entire hand (33 cards at the time)

healing for mucho heals (Tempest, AA heals.

Finishing blow.

Punish the weak was out.

I got the unlock in a game where Haka did a lot of damage, destroyed over 10 targets (I had Savage Mana so I could track it), destroyed each unique Magmarian (twice if you count the destruction from Savage Mana when I triggered it, and the game clearly does since I Dominion-drew for them when it happened), never played Equipment. I suspect this is based on doing damage/destroying targets through Crush or melee One-Shots. Like, what if it's "no equipment in play, do X melee damage" or "no equipment in play, destroy X targets with melee damage"?

I finally got the unlock https://pastebin.com/TwHCHgk1

This time I had the same team fight Voss and had Haka do ALL THE THINGS.

By the end of the game, he had played all of his cards except his equipment and hakas, had all 3 dominions, all 3 enduring intercessions, ta moko, punish the weak, and savage mana in play, had no cards left in his deck or trash, had every environment target and most of the villain targets under savage mana, and finished off Voss with a 48 damage savage mana.  So unfortunately, this probably doesn't narrow it down too well as to what is needed.
