Threw us a curveball, huh, Handelabra? This week, backed by the AC/DC soundtrack, it's Tempest!
(My first guess: Atlantis.)

Dok'Thorath is also worth checking out in my opinion.
It's going to be interesting to see which gimmick he has to exploit to the extreme in his unlock. We've already had one to do with playing all the weather-centric cards. Perhaps this one might function around his deck manipulation skills...
Got him. Dok'Thorath. I played Subwave Inducer round 1, Electrical Storm round 2, and made sure to change my damage with Subwave Inducer to each type by the time the game ended. Also played some other stuff. I can write more in a bit, busy right now.
https://pastebin.com/cePgpt0Y
I got him as well, here's the log
Holy hell.
Okay. Dok’Thorath it is, but it’s not every damage type by laura.a.forbes’s log, so I’m thinking destroy some number (guessing 10) targets.
Maybe it's something like deal lightning damage to destroy at least (x) targets, since they're struck by lightning?
I thought this one would be quick!
Laura only did cold, lightning, and projectile damage, but she did a fair amount of all three. Short game: Tempest played only Grievous Hail Storm, Chain Lightning three times, Flash Flood, Into the Stratosphere twice, Elemental Subwave Inducer, and Gene-Bound Shackles. Some of those were via Rebel Yell. The Subwave Inducer was only ever used to change cold or projectile damage to lightning.
Wow, that was fast. I just get off work, check to see who is available this week, and he’s already unlocked!
I’m sure that either destroying a number of targets or dealing and amount of damage, possibly specifically of the lightning persuasion, is the key to winning this variant. In Dok’Thorath, of course.
Well.... that was easy.
Ok, so. I just REKT The Matriarch at Dok’Thorath, making sure that Tempest killed every target possible (both Cohorts, the Mask, a Carrion Field, 3 or 4 environment targets, every bird that appeared – there were a lot, but never more than like 6 at a time – and The Matriarch herself) with JUST lightning damage. Legacy had him double buffed, Argent Adept fueled his card play engine, and Omnitron-U tanked the psychic damage.
I unlocked him upon victory, and he was not in first position. Legacy was.
So it’s definitely:
Win a game with Vanilla Tempest, at Dok’Thorath. During the game, destroy a bunch of targets
or
do a bunch of damage. (If you have to deal a certain type of damage, it must be lightning damage, since I did nothing but that and got it. It could just be damage in general, and not matter what type you deal.)
I tried simply doing a ton of lightning damage but making sure Tempest only destroyed a single Sonic Mine, and that did not give an unlock.
It’s possible you didn’t deal ENOUGH damage (I don’t know where the hypothetical threshold would be, or how much you did – I’m pretty sure I did over 100 over the course of my game) but assuming that’s not the case, that’s a strong point of evidence that it is more based around destroying targets than dealing damage.
OK, so it's likely "Win a game in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Tempest on the team. Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets," with a possible rider of "with lightning damage."
Thunderstruck indeed.
I think I did 46 points of Lightning damage if my count from my log is right.
I could try for more, but my instinct for now is that it is probably the "destroy targets" deal instead.
I had legacy, TLT, and Tempest against Matriarch in Capital
dealth TONS of lightning damage. Destroyed TONS of birds.
no unlock
Did you destoy any Thorathians or minions? I had the Shackles in play as well, that might be considered XTREME
I did not use the Shackles, to my knowledge.
You may also need to have Electrical Storm and/or Elemental Subwave Inducer in play.
I think the only other cards I played were Chain Lightning, Lightning Slash, and Aquatic Correspondence. And eventually Hailstorm, I guess.
Battle in Dok'Thorath, just to test some totals. Tempest had the Shackles, Resilience, Subwave Inducer, a Vicious Cyclone, Cleansing Downpour, and the cold damage one.
I meant to check if nine kills were enough. I accidentally forgot to make all the kills electric, so here are the results:
Lightning Damage: 66, Cold Damage: 45, Projectile Damage: 4
Lightning Kills: 5, Cold Kills: 4 (including two environment targets).
No unlock, so at least one of those numbers was not good enough.
I tried a few things. First, a lot of projectile damage without muhch destruction, then a lot of lightning damage with some destruction (not much), then a lot of destruction.
The third led to a successful unlock.
Thus, destruction seems to be the key. Although I don't know why UXM266's unlock didn't work. Tempest had 13 kills (not including the Villain).
I did put out a lot of Tempest's ongoing cards too, so it might have to do with having certain cards in play as well. The successful unlock was light on one-shot usage too.
Lightning was not a huge factor in this.
I'm attaching logs of both my second failed attempt and my third attempt in case they help.
Edit: I guess we should at least put out one guess for MigrantP:
Regular Tempest wins a battle in Dok'Thorath Capital. Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets.
Destroyed 19 targets with lightning damage from Tempest. No unlock. However, it was almost all with Hurricane and Hail with the damage type changed by Twist the Ether. Log is attached.
Just unlocked on my phone. Team Leader Tachyon, Grandpa Legacy, X-Treme Adept, Tempest, Naturalist vs Ambuscade in Dok'thorak.
Tempest killed pretty much everyone with Elemental Subwave Inducer converting all damage to lightning. Didn't keep track of the number. Gene-bound shackles did come into play at some point, but not sure if required.
Not sure how to grab the logs from my phone, or I'd attach.
Current guess: Win a game with regular Tempest at Dok'thorath Capital. Tempest must kill at least 10 targets using Elemental Subwave Inducer to change the damage to lightning. [Gene-bound Shackles must be put into play / when the game ends.]
Hey just wanted to ask a question.
I was playing with my boyfriend in a private game. When we finished the game, he had gotten the unlock for XPW tempest but I did not receive the variant. Wondering if someone could help with why that happened?
It's not related to doing damage via Elemental Subwave Inducer. In my unlock, although I did activate it, I never did damage or destroyed cards while it was active (although I did get a lot of Electrical Storm kills that had been played prior to its activation).
It might have to do with cards in play. I'm going to take a look through MindWanderer's log as it is probably key. We need to find out what MindWanderer didn't do that the rest of us did.
Actually, I think Elemental Subwave Inducer might be the key. You don't need to use it to actually convert damage, but I think it has to be in play. All of our successful unlocks mention it and it was not in play in MindWanderer's log.
Did any of us get the unlock without Gene-Bound Shackles? Perhaps they have to be in play as well, given they are Tempest's only other Equipment card.
Edit: I note McBehrer mentioned not having the Shackles, so they may not be important. Still, I think we should focus on trying to get a lot of kills with only the Inducer as an Ongoing in play, then perhaps add Electrical Storm and/or Gene-Bound Shackles to see if they help out.
I did not use the Shackles. I don’t think so, anyway.
You posted that before I edited into my post, heh.
Given that I doubt Electrical Storm is a necessity (why it and the Inducer?), perhaps it's time for another guess…
Tempest is on the team and wins a battle in Dok'Thorath Capital. Elemental Subwave Inducer must be played. Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets.
I will note that I did select Lighning once in my unlock, despite not changing any damage to Lightning. It would be nice to have tests where Lightning is never selected.
Just tried this and didn't get the unlock. Team was XPW AA, Tempest and Grandfather Legacy against Ambuscade in the Capital. Had the Subwave inducer in play from turn one and used it for lightning every turn after that. Tempest destroyed at least 13 targets between the environment and the villain deck. I didn't have the Genebound Shackles, though.
I believe only the player playing Tempest will get the unlock in a multiplayer game.
Did you have Electrical Storm?
Yep, had electrical storm, localized hurricane (twice, actually, destroyed them both), Cleansing Downpour, Grievous Hailstorm x2, Otherwordly Resilience and Shielding Winds too. The shackles was pretty much the only card I didn't have.
Oh, also played all of Tempest's oneshots except Lightning Slash.
Yep, in multiplayer you have to be controlling the hero for the unlock. It's also why America's Greatest Legacy can't be unlocked in multiplayer since Legacy can't be part of the unlock.
Perhaps it’s just killing the targets (10?) with lightning damage (in Dok Thorath, of course).
Only 5 of the things I destroyed were with Lightning damage. 3 were woth Projectile and the other 5 were with Cold damage.
No, I did that and no unlock. I did have Gene-Bound Shackles and Electrical Storm, but no Inducer. I didn’t play a wide variety of cards.
I just did two runs at Dok'rath against the Matriarch, and spammed lightning when I could in both. The distinction between the games as near as I can tell is that in the second game I got the Inducer, and Tempest killed the Matriarch with Lightning Slash. Given the name, if it isn't 'do x damage with lightning,' that suggests to me that either the Subwave Inducer is required, or offing the villain with lightning damage or lightning slash may be the key.
(Also, thanks to everyone for threads like these; I've been lurking on them for months and it's made the process a lot less frustrating and a lot more fun!)
I definitely did not finish the villain off with Lightning Slash, so THAT isn’t it.
I think the Inducer is the key.
I had the inducer and certainly destroyed more than 10 targets with lightning damage. However, some of those were not converted by the inducer. Maybe it needs to be converted lightning damage.
Oh, that could be it. "Destroy at least 10 targets with damage that is converted to lightning by the Inducer."
Can it be 10 Dok'Thorath targets? Or is it targets in general?
My guess is:
With regular tempest on the team win a game in Dok’Thorath. Tempest must do at least 10 points of lightning damage in one turn some time during the game.
Here's some cold water on everyone's theory. I just unlocked and did exactly 0 lightning damage.
I used Wraith, Tempest, America's Finest Legacy and Captain Cosmic against Ambuscade in Dok Thorath. I intentionally avoided lightning damage during the match. Tempest killed over 10 targets, but I can't remember the exact number. Tempest did over 100 points of damage. There was a small amount (say 5) damage from the environment to the villains, but otherwise Tempest did all the damage to the villains. Except for a little bit of projectile at the start, this was all cold damage. I had Subwave Inducer out to convert the damage to cold. I had an Electrical Storm out, but it came out after Subwave Inducer, so it was always doing cold damage.
I didn't expect the unlock, but there it was. I did have the shackles out as well. Actually, I had all the ongoing and equipment cards out except Vicious Cyclone. Tempest did the final blow. I never played Lightning Slash, Ball Lightning or Chain Lightning. That's all I can remember. Now, figure out the unlock.
Maybe do X amount of damage or kill X amount of targets with damage converted by the Subwave Inducer.
So at a guess:
Tempest wins a fight in Dok'Thorath Capital. Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets using damage converted by the Subwave Inducer.
Got it this time. Log attached. I did very little different this time–Tempest still destroyed lots of targets, all lightning damage due to Twist the Ether–but I did play the Inducer this time. I was also careful to play it only on the very last turn of the game, so I never had to choose a damage type for it.
Looks like it's the Subwave Inducer, then. Are we certain it has to be Dok'rath?
So, it's lightning damage, subwave inducer in play. destroy 10 targets.
I can try again, in a different environment.
I actually played a very similar game in Atlantis before people started getting the unlocks. (Well, while they were getting them, but I went ahead and finished the game.) Other than the environment, Tempest definitely got the required number of kills and had the Inducer out. So I'm guessing it's "Win a game in Dok'Thorath using Tempest. The Elemental Subwave Inducer must be in play. Tempest must have destroyed at least 10 targets." Possibly fiddly bits excepting (having the Inducer destroyed mid-game, for instance). It is for sure not lightning damage required per QuirkyDM.
It could also be 10 targets using powers. Grevious Hail Storm, Squall, and Localized Huricane were the main components of my damage with some Electrical Storm thrown in.
So I had inducer
I faced against Apostate in The Block
using only powers I destroyed 10 or more targets.
Could be that Capital is necessary
I'm possitive Dok'Thorath is required at this point. There's no documented unlock cases proving this wrong, is there? Also, with the whole extreme environment dedicated to the particular character being part of the theme, Dok'Thorath makes more sense than anywhere else.
Unlocked!
"Win a game in Dok'Thoran capital with regular Tempest and destroy 10? targets with lightning damage using only powers."
I had the inducer in play.
I did NOT have electric storm
The only powers I used were Grevious Hailstorm and his Base
I had Shackles in play
I played against Apostate, TONS of easy to destroy targets. And they can keep on coming too!
It's not merely having Tempest destroy 10 targets while in Dok'Thorath. I made sure to have Inducer and Electrical Storm out too but no dice.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9reqmd8erc13rj4/tempest%20unlock%20fail.txt?dl=0
I never used electrical storm, it may just be using powers?
I had Electrical Storm out and the Inducer, but got almost all of my kills with Hailstorm (converted to lightning damage); must've taken out a dozen targets between the environment and the zombies alone, no unlock.
I counted up Jeysie's battle: Just 9 kills using powers. The rest were with Chain Lightning.
Edit: However, I went through Laura's as well. 5 kills from Grievous Hailstorm, 2 from Electrical Storm, 6 from Chain Lightning, and Gloomy himself from Into the Stratosphere.
Edit 2: I went through all the posted logs. Tempest got the killing blow against the villain in every successful unlock. A couple of the "I don't know why this didn't work" games involved a different character getting the finishing blow. So my new theory:
Win a game in Dok'Thorath with (regular?) Tempest on the team. Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets and the (final?) villain. Elemental Subwave Inducer must be in play (have been played?).
When I get myPC set up, I will attempt to get a log. I got mine on my iOS
I was thinking similar to you, but you've got research to prove it. I think this is on the right track.
It looks like the point has been dropped again, but given that it came back up while I was asleep, I'd like to point out again that converted damage has nothing to do with this, as my unlock had 0 converted damage. The Inducer was used twice, but Tempest dealt no damage while it was active.
I think we might be onto something with Tempest dealing the final blow, though...
It’s super NOT “kill 10 targets using powers only.” I had Electrical Storm out, so most of my kills were start of turn, add one-shots took out several others. Powers amounted to maybe a small handful of kills. (It’s also not kill 10 environment targets. I only saw like 4)
Plus we have evidence that Damage Type DOES NOT matter, but having Inducer in play probably does.
My guess:
Win a game with Tempest in Dok’Thorath. During the game, Tempest just destroy at least 10 non-hero targets and deal at least 100 damage total. In addition, Elemental Subwave Inducer must have been played during the game.
We just need to test if any of those parts are superfluous (I doubt it) or if there is something else, too (the Shackles, or Tempest dealing the final blow, seem like probable candidates). I think that’s REALLY close, though.
Steam has a case of an unlock without Tempest dealing the final blow, with a log to prove it.
https://pastebin.com/q83uS8M2
Ok, so there’s that. Only other thing I can think of would be the Shackles.
There is still something missing. I defeated GWB is Dok'Thorath with Tempest. Tempest destroyed a bunch a cards (around 12 or 13, maybe one not with power) and the inducer was in play (though some cards were destroyed before the inducer was played) and no unlock.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z11ryzw6kehofwd/Tempest%20unlock%20fail%202.txt?dl=0
Yeah, I tried doing mostly what I did before (switched to Voss for easier target destruction was the one change) except having Tempest do the final blow this time and still no unlock. Did not have Shackles in play, which might be interesting.
I just did two attempts. Both used Ambuscade, Dok'Tharoth, AA, TLT, Grandpa, and Tempest.
The first was on Steam, and I tried the basics of what most folks have said. I had Tempest kill a lot of targets (at least 10), and get the final shot on the boss. Got the unlock.
The second was on Android. I killed at least 10 targets and had Tempest deal the final blow. No unlock.
For both attempts, I had Shackles and Inducer out. It didn't seem to make a different on the second attempt. I will mention though that I healed a lot more on the second attempt, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Deal more damage than you heal or something?
I’m guessing there’s just a really high damage requirement. If you spent time healing, you weren’t maximizing damage, so you probably just didn’t do quite enough.
Also, did anyone unlock it and NOT have Electrical Storm?
I believe I didn’t have electrical storm in my mobile unlock against Matriarch.
Then I’m sticking with this:
Win a fight against a villain at Dok’Thorath, with Tempest. During the fight, Elemental Subwave Inducer and Genebound Shackles must enter play, and Tempest must deal at least 100 damage and destroy at least 10 targets.
Also he probably has to survive the fight. I’m guessing.
Curious: any unlocks without using Into the Stratosphere? It's the only way I see to mimic the 'stop end of turn effects' bit from XPW's power. I put a couple of pins back on top with my uses of ITS, and I see Laura did two separate targets with end-of-turn effects as well.
I never played it in my unlock. Drew it but discarded it.
I did not use Into the Stratosphere in my unlock.
Here's a non-unlock log for people to delve through: https://pastebin.com/ZD6ZDWLj
I fought Ambuscade in Dok'Thorath and didn't pay too close attention to what I was doing. Highlights include Tempest getting the Subwave Inducer out early on and always setting it to lightning, the team saving all the targets for him to take out with Greivous Lightning Storm, and Tempest getting the final blow with Lightning Slash.
EDIT: And on that note, are the Steam forums down for everyone, or is that just me? There's like, no text showing up on any pages. c.c
I was seeing that earlier but it's working now for me.
Followed McBehrer’s fomula- Dok’Thorath, Tempest destroyed at least 10 targets (probably 15+) and dealt over 100 damage, had both elemental subwave and gene-bound shackles in play from mid-game to the end. Dealt the final hit to GW with Localized Hurricane. Unlocked.
I did use Into the Stratosphere, so what with those who didn’t use it and still got the unlock, I don’t think that card matters.
Gene-bound Maurader did appear in the early game, but Tempest did not take him out, so I think that’s unrelated.
Oh, and Tempest was at 8 HP when I got the unlock. Not sure if HP factors in at all.
Tempest dealt 63 damage total in that game. 100 damage is still an eligible theory.
In my unlock, I did 36 Lightning Damage, 25 Cold Damage and 26 Projectile Damage for 87 total Damage.
Are we missing something simple, like maybe it has to be 10 Villain Targets? Most of TakeWalkers destroyed targets were Environment ones.
I just counted yours up and got 94 after modifiers, but still not 100. Dang.
That's odd, are you sure? If so, I wonder what I missed… I used a spreadsheet to find all the "Tempest deals" lines…
Edit: Actually, I think I figured it out. I don't think you took into account that I undid one of Tempest's turns. That looked to be about 7 damage extra.
Maybe it’s like 75 damage, then. Or it’s (the villain’s hp) damage.
First try unlock!
Dok'Thorath Capital, against Grand Warlord Voss. XPW AA, Grandpa Legacy, TL Tachyon, PW Haka, and vanilla Tempest. everything i did was to boost Tempest and make him even scarier than he normally is. Gene bound Shackles, that weird red harness (i forget the name, it's such a weird one. but that one that changes damage types), Electrical Storm, Cleansing Rains, and shielding winds were out. i spent as long as possible just getting lightning damage, getting damage boosted (YAY for songs of boosting!), and passing turns until Tempest could strike down everything that existed or came out. took a little longer than usual, but Tempest needed the glory, and by the ROCK GODS! He got it!
Got him.
Greatest Legacy, standard Tempest, AA, F6 Tachyon vs. Omnitron in the DT Capital.
Only power Tempest used was Squall, but he used it a lot, 2 or 3 times per round. Destroyed at least 10 targets, counting environment targets. Delivered at least 100 damage (lost count at 85, but threw out 20 that turn), mostly projectile and lightning. Subwave, shackles, electrical storm, and otherworldly resistance hit the table.
Tempest got the kill shot on AA's turn.
It can't simply be a matter of doing more than 100 damage; my second failed unlock I posted here I think had over 140 damage done by Tempest (probably 144 damage since IIRC I used Hurricane to finish off Voss) if I counted right.
Can somebody do a test trying to destroy cards with Flash Flood and Ball Lightning? It would be horrible if our guesses were incorrect simply because we were only counting targets that are destroyed when it really is all cards that are destroyed or something.
Could it be do X amount of damage in a single round? Most of us are using characters that allow extra power use and damage boosts. Not to mention Gene-Bound Shackles. With these target rich environments and lots of bonus damage, the one round damage could mount up quickly.
Also, has anyone unlocked without Tempest killing environment targets? Maybe there's a certain target to destroy. Put Tempest last in line and use Argent Adept, Parse or Omnitron-X to destroy environment cards as fast as they pop up.
I got an unlock this morning, but I don't recall doing more than 8 damage at any one time. Lots of destruction, though, including destroying a bunch of Environment targets.
Could it be "Tempest must destroy one of each type of Environment target"? It would definitely be XTREME for him to be attacking Thorathians...
On my unlock I won pretty quickly. There is no way I did 100 points of damage. My team was:
Team Leader Tachyon, OmniX, Knyfe Rogue agent and Tenpest. (In Dok’Thorath)
I used OX and Knyfe to play Tempest’s cards and TLT just to make sure I had a good hand. At the end I had electrical storm, shackles, Subwave inducer, otherworldly resistance, vicious cyclone and localized hurricane.
Tempest did a crap ton of damage to Ambuscade in an individual round, but I am pretty sure he didn’t do 100 damage total and also that he didn’t kill 10 individual targets. I was using the inducer to only deal lightning damage.
PS - I did use chain lightning at some point.
I never played Ball Lightning for my unlock.
Possible. None of the rebels came out, but I did have to clear out some looters who were making life complicated. I don’t recall if Tempest was the one who did it, though.
No, I never saw any Minions. I got 2 Thorathians and 2 different Civilians, but no Ravagers.
Have any unlocks involved INto The Stratosphere?
Just wanted to add that I had 2 additional unlock attempts with similar setups to before. I did a bunch of damage, destroyed a bunch of targets, dealt the final blow (even though we know that's not required), had out Inducer and Storm. No unlocks. We're definitely missing something.
@broccoli: Did you save your two logs? Going through them might turn up what the difference is.
Or I could just post my own comparisons since I finally got an unlock! :P

Definitely not.
Never saw the refugees, looters or Minion and got the unlock.
@Jeysie Unfortunately, my first unlock was on Steam, and since I got it on the first try, I thought it would be easy. All my subsequent attempts were on Android, and my understanding is that Android either doesn't keep logs or keeps not useful ones.
Android can produce logs, but you basically have to home button out and then copy or share it out with your file program before letting the game end to get one.
I guess that means my logs are ones we have so far to compare with, though I had a change of swapping out Grandpa Legacy for Omni-X between my successful unlock and one of my fails. (The other fail was much more different.)
Android does keep a log, but it's deleted the moment you complete the game, and it's not linked to in the app, so you have to know where to find it. (I use ES File Explorer, which automatically shows you newly-created files, which makes it easier.) So right before you make the winning move, you have to go make a copy of the file first.
iOS keeps a log, too, but I don't believe there's any way of getting to it unless your device is jailbroken.
Unlocked in Dok'thorath vs Omni - no log since I'm on iOS
Had Subwave, Shackles, Hailstorm, Electrical Storm and Vicious Cyclone out.
Tempest was in final position and although he did a crapton of damage, I am certain that less than 10 targets were destroyed (was 3 drones, 1 EPE and 2 environment target) and not all of them by Tempest. There were also several components that died due to Omni taking 7 to the face. Tempest did deal the killshot with a Lighting Bolt
I used Into the Stratosphere once, and I believe at least one other person said they did as well.
Does that mean in one attack, one turn or one round? Using a card on Tempest's turn, a power on Tempest's turn and a power on at least one other person's turn, the damage can add up quickly. Add any damage boosts from Legacy and Gene-Bound Shackles and it's easy to do 20+ damage in a round. Which would not be that Xtreme honestly, even for Tempest.
Have we ruled out Tempest doing a certain amount of damage in a single turn/round? That could actually explain why the Electrical Storm and Grievous Hail Storm features in so many unlocks...
I don't think it's in a round. It has to be in a game. The unlock happens when the villain is defeated.
It could easily be "win a game &c &c. Tempest must have dealt X damage in one round."
It could be, but if it was ONE round it would most likely be unlocked when it's reached, i don't think there's an unlock that is specific to a round/turn and is unlocked upon victory. I'm sure it's over the course of the game.
It is definently over or exactly ten. Ten is an extrime number and all the other XPW follow that pattern.
Maybe not a particular round/turn, but it could be every/each round/turn, though. Some minimum threshold of damage/destruction each round/turn(for tempest/by tempest?), and then unlock if win?
If it was EACH turn, sure, that makes more sense. But I'm stills tumped, when I get back to my PC I will do some testing and get logs up!
I am mad that the game in which I don’t play with the intent of unlocking the variant is the game where I actually unlock the variant.
Played a quick game before work that consisted of XPW Argent, Legacy and Tempest in Dok’thoarth against Ambuscade. There is almost no way I dealt 100 damage nor destroyed 10 targets. The Villain targets Tempest destroyed were Handgun, Cloaking Device, Fire Launcher, and Cloaking Device again. For Environment, it was Thorathian Military (which was destroyed with Environment destruction one-shot), a second Thorathian Military, and the Environment Minion card. The only Citizen card to enter play was the beggars, which the Minions destroyed. Tempest dealt the final blow to Ambuscade with no other non-hero targets left on the field. I ended the game with Shackles, Subwave Inducer, and Electrical Storm on Tempests field, and Tempest was in ‘Critical’ condition. (Like, 4 health?) Subwave didn’t come out until the second to last turn, so I don’t think the gimmick is changing a lot of your damage to one type.
My only thoughts are this: A hero never destroyed a Citizen, this was my shortest game in which I played with Tempest on Dokthorath (in regards to turns), and Tempest never had his stuff destroyed.
My game i used Leviatation Field to prevent all damage done by environment. I also made sure not to have electrical storm, since I wnated to destroy everything with powers.
I had Shackles and Inducer in play.
I think that's it "Win a game with Tempest in Dok'Thorath with regular tempest, Genebound Shackles and Subwave Inducer must be in play"
Both of them are equipment, are they not?
I did that, it didn't unlock him.
It is true they are his two equipment cards, but I feel like I met that condition in a game before my unlock game.
Can anyone who is actually good at reading through logs check if there’s a commonality within the unlock games in which a hero never destroys a ‘Citizen’ from the Environment?
OK, just got the unlock.
Dok'Thorath, Wraith, Sky-Scraper, Tempest.
Tempest used all three of his damaging powers, had the Shackles and Inducer out. Don't know how much damage he did in total. Defeated Gloomweaver by putting his three Relics in the trash, so it's not about Tempest dealing the final blow to the villain. I think Tempest was the only hero to actually destroy targets.
Edit: He destroyed the civilians as well as the minions. About the only Environment card he didn't destroy at some point in the game was the Rebel HQ.
I think the only trait other than “Subwave and Shackles” my game shares with this one is that Tempest was the only Hero to destroy a target.
My guess:
Win a game using base Tempest in Dok'Thorath. Tempest must have the Elemental Subwave Transducer and the Gene-Bound Shackles in play, and must use all three of his damaging powers to destroy targets during the game.
Just played a second game with a friend and earned an unlock, I think I'm close to the condition.
My guess:
"Win a game with base Tempest in Dok'thorath. Tempest can be the only hero to destroy any non-hero targets. Tempest must end the game with Elemental Subwave Inducer and Gene-Bound Shackles in play."
I never used, nor even played, Localized Hurricane.
I also never used it.
Also I did destroy at least one Civilian target.
So I went through my logs trying to figure out differences.
I also had Tempest do some healing in the failed log, but in my success it was only other people who did healing. In both logs Tempest was the only hero to destroy targets, including the villain.
Tempest did a bunch of healing in my unlock. He was the only hero that destroyed targets in my unlock, but I did have a Raptor Bot destroying itself…
I also just cheked this log:
and it has another Hero destroy targets.
However, I also noticed that Tempest only destroys 9 targets as far as I can see (and one of those was with Flash Flood).
So yeah… this is a really interesting log that we should probably study more.
But it does seem that, while it may not be a requirement, gloom or ambuscade is the best coice for villan.
PS: How do you get logs of games?
I thought we decided that shacles wasn't part of it?
Just tested! One hundred persent worked.
Had in order; Legacy, Team Leader, Normal Argent, Tempest VS Abuscade.
I hope this is it!
I only ever used squall
This would be easy enough to test, if anyone doesn't have the unlock yet. Fight Plague Rat in Dok'Thorath with Visionary and Horus-Ra, maybe TL Tachyon to help them draw cards. Use Twist the Ether and Flesh of the Sun God to turn Plague Rat's damage off, then use Mass Levitation to neuter the environment. Have Tempest destroy exactly one environment target, then win once he has the Inducer and the Shackles in play.
Could the requirement be something like "Tempest destroys more targets than other heroes do"?
I can only speak for Steam, but go to the directory:
C:\Users(your name)\AppData\LocalLow\Handelabra Games Inc_\Sentinels
making sure you replace "(your name)" with your name on the PC. You'll find files called log.txt and log-copy.txt which will have your most recent and next-to-most recent logs in them.
Hm, I thought I had some ideas, but Jeysie's non-unlocks shot them down. Which is good! But now I'm out of ideas. There's a crazy huge non-unlock log on Steam, I'll look at that one when I get some time.
Oh, and the thought on Tempest destroying more stuff than other heroes might be sound, but "no one else can destroy anything" is too Xtreme - I had Haka destroying things and eventually stashing stuff under Savage Mana, that's definitely not it.
Plus in both of my attempts I compared Tempest did all the destruction, but only one of those attempts succeeded.
I feel like Shackles being out in my success and absent in my fail, and Tempest doing in Thorathian Military in my success and none of them in my fail are the most notable differences I can pick out offhand, though I don't know how that compares to other folks' attempts.
Just made the unlock.
Played In Dok'Thorath vs. Gloomweaver.
Team was...
1. America's Greatest Legacy
2. Tempest
3. Visionary
4. Prime Wardens Argent Adept
Tempest had Elemental Subwave Inducer, Gene-bound shackles, and electrical storm in play. Visionary played Twist the Ether on Tempest.
Tempest used his base power and localized hurricane as powers. No Grievous Hailstorm was used at all.
Legacy did KO a couple targets, but the bulk of the KOs were done by Tempest.
Tempest delivered the final blow to Gloomweaver, using a Lightning Slash.
I think Gene-bound being out is important, too. My son tried a couple times last night, but didn't have GBS out for any of them.
I agree with Gene-bound Shackles probably neding to be out. Maybe they just ned make an appearance in the game, not stay out the enitre time? Cold be a possibility for the Sub-Wave Inducer as well.
Where is the directory?
I took some time to complile a lot of succeses logs for expert log readers to find simalarities:

OK, perhaps I should have said 'folder'. I am also assuming Windows as the OS here.
If that is still confusing, then follow the following steps to get there:
Dang. I have mac. ![]()

As far as I can tell, the only thing I did differently than last time, other than a somewhat different team, and perhaps more targets defeated, was getting out Gene-Bound Shackles. I think I specifically avoided them against Ambuscade. Otherwise, lots of lightning damage, lots of targets destroyed.
Did someone actually suggest "Win in Dok'Thorath with standard Tempest, Gene-Bound Shackles and Elemental Subwave Inducer must enter play, Tempest must destroy at least 10 targets" yet? Or perhaps "...must destroy at least 10 targets that hand end-of-turn effects"?
We have a log with fewer than 10 targets now, the one from Steam i mentioned earlier.
And we had reports earlier that people thought they didn't have the Shackles in play, but no proof of such.
Hmm... Looking back over that log, Tempest may not destroy 10 targets, but he does destroy at least 10 cards.
So the unlock could very well be:
Regular Tempest wins a battle in Dok'Thorath Capital. Elemental Subwave Inducer and Gene-Bound Shackles must have been played. Tempest must have destroyed at least 10 cards with his powers and cards.
Maybe it’s instances of damage dealt, tempest can generate a lot of those.
Apparently, due to a post on Steam I just found, your log location might be:
[hard drive]>Users>[your name]>Library>Application Support>unity.Handelabra Games Inc…Sentinels
For some reason (even though I found the file) it wont open. I tried a bunch of different file opening softwares but still. Thanks for the help though! ![]()
Spitballing ideas here. Do any of the logs rule out something simple like "Tempest deals at least 10 instances of damage in a single turn/round" or "Tempest deals lightning damage to at least 10 targets in a single round"?
Ok so I sort of did this and I did get the unlock.
Possible achievement: Base_CumulativeDamage, progress: 100Possible achievement - Pastebin.com
Basically, I made sure Plague Rat couldn't deal damage and Tempest was the ONLY hero to ever kill another target. I had other heroes deal damage, but only tempest ever dealt the killing blow on any target in the game, including Plague Rat himself. I probably did kill more targets than I should have, negating the one kill test, but I think it proves that we are on the right track with only tempest killing targets. If it helps, I don't think it all has to be on one turn either, since I basically killed things as fast as they could and as soon as they came out. I couldn't have killed more than 3-4 targets a turn at most or dealt more than 25 damage in one turn at the absolute highest. Also, I don't think damage type matters, since I mostly had tempest using fire damage to take advantage of Ra's imbued fire.
I'm going to go in ancomptdifferent direction. How many people who unlocked him redirected damage from the refugees? Could it be to destroy them a few times? The kind of opposite of Captain Cosmic?
Though that's a good idea, I don't think it's a part of the unlock. Refugees didn't even make an appearance during my unlock.
Nah. I only saw them once in my unlock.
It's not just Tempest destroying things and we don't need further tests on that. We already have successful logs where other Heroes destroyed things, and even where Tempest did not strike the killing blow.
We also know it is not 10 targets destroyed as there is a log with fewer. It could still be 10 cards destroyed, or it might be something entirely different.
We need some vigorous testing on which cards need to be in play to sort out once and for all if the Shackles and/or Elemental Storm are needed.
We strongly suspect the Inducer (and maybe Shackles) must have been played, but we also need to determine if it/they must be in play at the end of the game.
We are probably very close, but we just haven't nailed down the right combination of factors.
Finally got my unlock on Android. The things that changed: I swapped from Ambuscade to Voss, and I got out Electrical Storm earlier.
I'm wondering if either it has something to do with Tempest destroying a variety of different enemies, destroying minions (of which Voss has more of), or dealing several different types of damage. In my game he dealt lightning, cold, projectile, and energy.
Given the storm theme, maybe just his basic 3? Cold, Projectile, and Lightning? Obviously still in Dok'Tharok.
Never dealt cold damage in mine, though he did take out some zombies via his base power.
EDIT: Wait, strike that, I actually did deal cold damage at least once. So all three show up in mine. Could you be on to something?
Finally did it. I needed both the Shackles and the Inducer (games won with only one didn't unlock). I destroyed targets with everyone, so not only Tempest. I didn't keep track of how many I destroyed, but probably many.
I had both equipment cards at the end (are those the only equipments in his deck? if so, it may be important) but the inducer came really late in the game. Not sure if they need to be there at the end of the game.
I played a game in dok’thorath where Tempest had out subwave inducer and shackles, they were there at the end of the game. Tempest certainly destroyed at least 10 targets including Ambuscade.
The damage was mostly, possibly even entirely, lightning.
I didn’t get the unlock, so the idea of it being Tempest destroying 10 cards isn’t it, and that doesn’t sound particularly “Xtreme” either.
Hmm… mostly if not entirely Lightning? Maybe this would add to the “multiple damage types” theory? I can easily recall 4 different damage types Tempest dealt in the second unlock game I played.
Someone want to try having Tempest deal a bunch of damage types through Twist the Ether? Without playing either Subwave or Shackles? See if that does anything? I know it’s a long shot, but…
It's not the damage types theory. In my unlock I only did base.
Some thing else; it might have something to do with Inducer changing it ti lightning. I did a game with my friend to get it and he got out Inducer on the last turn and didn't use it ti change damage. So that could be something.
EDIT: He didn't get the unlock.
In my Android unlock, I only every changed it to energy.
I suspect the changing damage type isn’t important, as much as just having the inducer in play is needed.
In my unlock I did 2 rounds of projectile damage and the rest of the game was cold damage. If variety is required, it's not very much. 2 energy types, especially on Tempest, hardly seems worth mentioning.
I don't recall having Electrical Storm at all. I made sure to only destroy targets or deal damage using Powers
But I got it with powers & cards; so we know it isn't power exclusive.
I think it is just a matter of tweaking a few numbers.
(I did the requirements for a variant in the card game and handalabra hasn't sent it to me. Why is this?)
I should have elobarated on my point, sorry. I don't recall doing lightning damage. So, it's probably not damage type. Maybe.
Maybe you have to just use it and not necessarily only change it to lightning
Got the unlock as well. I had base Tempest, base Legacy, TLT and base AA in Dok'Thorath against Gloomweaver. I honestly think the key is in the type of damage used in the game as well as dealing it. In my fight, I had Melee, Lightning, Cold, Projectile and Energy and used the Subwave Inducer to have Tempest deal additional Melee and Energy damage (which were otherwise dealt by Legacy and Thorathian Military). Never had Gene-Bound Shackles enter play.
My current guess is: Win a game using base Tempest in Dok'Thorath. Tempest must deal the most damage of each type used in the game
I only had tempest deal his base damages in my unlock even though I had legacy and tachyon dealing sonic & melee.
Also, nice to know shackles are off.
Without proof of a log, I don't want to state that for 100% certain, but I do not believe the shackles ever entered play for me. I am able to find the logs but whatever I am opening the logs with doesn't appear as clean as other logs posted here. Thoughts?
Yeah, I was having a bit of trouble getting the logs to work.
This might work
In the games where someone else got the killing blow, is it possible that Tempest hit some threshold of damage done to the SV, since it doesn't seem to be overall damage or certain types? Maybe that's why it seems like they "need" the shackles when others don't?
I got the unlock, no idea what I did for it though as I just focused on trying to dish out lots of damage with Tempest.
Dok’Thorath against Gloomweaver, I had the subwave inducer and shackles out, Tempest wasn’t the only one to do damage but near enough out of the heroes it was just a brief bit of damage from Visionary otherwise, everyone else was just out to boost Tempest, who was the one to damage and destroy nearly everything and did the killing blow on Gloomy. Tempest did every damage type throughout the game.
We know it's not damage typeing or final blow or shackles. Please keep this in mind when making a theory.
Ok… Wasn’t theorising, just listing what I could think of that happened in the game.
Sorry, didn't mean to direct that at you. I wasn't scolding. I was reminding. Sorry about that.
On logs, I think you have the rightdirectory, but you are looking at the wrong file. You want "log.txt" in that directory, not the "Endgame" files. It may look like it is just named "log" for you.
On the unock condition, we might be onto something. It indeed could be something like "Tempest deals more damage to the Villain than any other Hero/source". This would explain why the Shackles and Electrical Storm feature so much without apparently being required. It's time to check some logs again, but unfortunately I'm way too busy today to do so...
The problem is it is recording engames, not logs. I found two but i don't know why it recorded them, or how I can trigger it myself.
Failed file test
Did we lose? The new one is coming out tonight. Hmm. Well less than a day to get this thing solved. Let's call America's Smartest Legacy!
They have no problem leaving the conditions unsolved for weeks or even months sometimes.
They suggested on their stream that something someone has said about their games was wrong and we should focus on the logs.
Lol. Revealing F6 Bunker's unlock was a stretch goal for the season 2 kickstarter, and he'd been available forever.
Santa Guise took over 3 months for unlock conditions.
In my defense, I asked because John had admitted he was going to give us a hint about XPWAA before we managed to figure it out last minute, so I saw no reason not to capitalize on a possible precedent. :P
I didn't make the stream tonight (baseball game, curiously enough) but if there was someone who said something wrong, I think it was me. My unlock game's log is gone but I found that in the endgame DAT file for my unlock, I did indeed have both the Elemental Subwave Inducer and Genebound Shackles. I apologize for the wild goose chase and will be better about saving/posting my logs in the future.
You aren't the only one that mentioned lack of Shackles, but the other reports with lack of Shackles were also unclear. So I do think both of his Equipment need to be present.
I wish I had time to trawl though some of the logs to check for consistencies.
I was the other, and I’m thinking I may have had them after all.
We now know from the XPW Fanatic unlock that the effect might have something specific to do with the environment too. There were reports from people that said they thought they didn't kill certain types of Environment targets, for example. We should probably have a look thorugh some logs specifically at the environment cards, especially that Steam log with only 9 targets destroyed...
It would be nice to have some statistics on counts of each environment target destroyed as well counts of damage done by Tempest to Environment tagets compared to damage done by environment targets, etc.
Checking my own log, I did a total of 11 damage to Environment targets, destroying 3 (two Gene-Bound Ravager and a Thorathian Military). None of the Civilians even entered play (unless you include the Rebel HQ).
It surely can't juest be ensuring that at least one Ravager and one Military is in Tepest's kills?
Can't be just that; I had that happen in one of my fail logs and still no unlock.
I don't have the log anymore, but in my unlock, I never got the subwave inducer in play. I had the shackles out for most of the game but never found the inducer. I was vs Infinitor at Dok Thorath.
How do you use the Endgame dat files?
I tried and the endgame files won't work.
Also, if you can get the logs to prove you didn't get the inducer that would be big news. Everyone has always thought that the inducer was necissary. maybe we had the right thing just no inducer.
They suggested on their stream that something someone has said about their games was wrong and we should focus on the logs.
MigrantP posted on Steam to remind us that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," in response to someone there saying "hey, I didn't ever have the Elemental Subwave Inducer in play and I got the unlock," which (as I said over there) is a pretty clear "logs or it didn't happen." So I'm calling the Inducer and Shackles as necessary until I get a log proving otherwise:
Win a game in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Tempest on the team. Elemental Subwave Inducer and Genebound Shackles must enter play. Tempest must destroy at least ten targets with damage from cards or powers.
(Probably not right, but a start.)
Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to this treasure hunt for the unlock conditions so thank you all for having provided the unlocks of previous variants.
Reading previous post and thinking of XPWAA and XPWCC unlock conditions being somewhat related to the new power, an idea I don't recall having read is that the unlock conditions could be something related to killing a number a targets with "end of turn" effects, since XPWT's power prevent EoT effects.
I got the unlock on my first try that I based on this hunch of EoT targets. I don't have the log (since I don't know how to get it...) but it was a very short game against Gloomweaver (for the numerous zombies with an EoT) and if memory serves vanilla Tempest killed 7 zombies, Ophidia, 1 civilian trooper, and 1 chosen disciple. Plus dealt the final blow to Gloomweaver. I remember varying the elemental type and source (power vs one-shot) on purpose (at least one victim was through a one-shot and Gloom was downed by projectile).
Elemental Subwave Inducer was played in the last 2 turns (so not much element fiddling).
So the condition would be Win a game in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Tempest on the team. Tempest must destroy 10 targets with "end of turn" effect.
Just a wild guess though.
Hope it helps.
Maybe it's "at least 10"?
I would make it
Win a game in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Tempest on the team. Tempest must destroy 10 targets with "end of turn" effect. Elemental Subwave Inducer and Genebound Shackles must enter play.
Escher said that in his unlock, he never got Inducer in play, but I like the idea of killing targets with "end of turn" effects. That would make a lot of sense thematically.
Here are a pair of recent failures - the first was just a game with tempest where he didn't do much besides heal.
The second was an attempt to get Tempest to destroy as many targets as possible. Shackles were in play, Transducer was not.
But they've said that somebody had misreported something. This could be it.
I dunno, I tried very hard to make my two games as similar as possible except for playing the Inducer in the last round. I'm sure there were other differences, but if the Inducer isn't required then there's another subtle but important difference between the two logs I posted.
Keep in mind, I fought The Matriarch, who has very few End of Turn effects.
Maybe, like Fanatic, you have to take a certain amount of damage or less? Everyone was around 20 hp when I finished my game.
Yeah, that was me on the Steam boards. As I just posted over there, if Migrant is jumping in, I must somehow be misremembering. I know I never got to USE the Inducer, but it's just possible I got it out using out-of-turn card play and then killed Infinitor with another hero. I don't recall doing that, but since it seems like it's important in everyone else's unlock, I'll bow to the possibility of faulty memory.
The inducer doesn't trigger until the start of your next turn. So if you play it and then win in the same round, you'll never see its effects.
Here's a successful unlock. I intentionally avoided Tempest destroying any Civilians in Dok, so, that might have something to do with it.
Dondolo's log on the first page proves this theory incorrect, unfortunately. Tempest destroyed Abject Refugees at some point. I suppose I might search a few more logs to see if the other Civilian cards are also represented.
Edit: MindWanderer had Tempest destry some Freedom Fighters. I'm not going to bother searching for Defiant Looters, but I doubt keeping them safe is the key.
Well, I got it on my first try and I haven't been following the discussions too closely other than the Dok'Thorath thing. Here's my log for comparison's sake.
I let Tempest do the most damage, but wasn't particularly careful to rule out certain combinations. The one thing I did, which I don't know if it's something that anybody else had cared about, was that I had him avoid attacking the one Civilian card that came up. So, the best guess I can make based on that data point is:
Regular Tempest wins in Dok'Thorath. Tempest destroys more Minions/Thorathians than Civilians.
What if it is like With regular Tempest on the team win a game in Dok. At least one of his equepment must go into play. Etc
Can it be with the sattelite blowing up the Headquarters? I tried but no unlock.
Attached Log.
Tried again with tempest destroying all environment targets.
No inducer in play.
Shackles in play
The community has discovered the official unlock condition for Xtreme Prime Wardens Tempest:
Win a game in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Tempest on the team. Tempest must deal at least 1 damage on each of Tempest’s turns. At the end of the game, both Gene-Bound Shackles and Elemental Subwave Inducer must be in play.
Huh. Ok.
Yeah. o.O Huh.
Who guessed that and where?
Epiku (and Carmilla), here
