With a Rebel Yell, we cry, more, more, more ideas! Over on Steam, the thread is here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/337150/discussions/0/1473096599326763810/

When it comes to the XPW, our primary source of information is the Time V. Time cover: https://sentinelswiki.com/images/f/f5/Timevtime.jpg

Notes I see:

1) The Prime Wardens fought, and lost to, Progeny.

2) Then, they regrouped in Atlantis.

3) They had "recently fought" Biomancer.

4) They returned to the place where they lost to Progeny, and there they met their counterparts.

So, my first guess would be, lose to Progeny with the five Wardens, then win in Atlantis against a team that includes Biomancer. And then maybe something else, too.

The X-Treme Prime Wardens also appear on the cover of Prime Wardens 1, which is included as part of the challenge mode document, if anyone can do anything with that.

Tried the following and no unlock:

1) Lose to Progeny in Tomb of Anubis (sand was mentioned). Using Prime Wardens.

2) Beat a team that has Biomancer with the Prime Wardens. I chose temple of Zhu long.

3) Returned to Tomb of Anubis and beat Kisnet. bio says they returned only to find a crater and  no progeny.

Revising and expanding my above: if I were designing this unlock series (and no, this isn't me admitting I'm MigrantP or anything!), I'd use the existing Prime Wardens as a template. To review, here's PWAA's unlock condition:

Lose a game to Akash’bhuta with the regular Argent Adept on the team. Then, defeat Akash’bhuta with the regular Argent Adept as the first hero; the rest of the team must be regular Haka, regular Captain Cosmic, regular Tempest, and Redeemer Fanatic (in any order). Each of the Argent Adept’s instruments must enter play during the game.

In short, "play out the formation of the Prime Wardens as a team": Akash-bhuta tears Argent Adept a new, ahem, whole note, and in response, he teams up with the rest of the Wardens and pulls out all the stops (so to speak), making sure all of the instruments he has collected enter play.

So what would be the equivalent of "play out the appearance of the Xtreme Prime Wardens"?

Easy first change: they need to lose to Progeny, not Akash'bhuta.

Easy second change: they all need to be the Prime Warden versions, and all five need to be in both fights.

Third change, not so easy: since unlike Akash'bhuta, they didn't go back and beat Progeny, but they had just fought Biomancer, make the refight a team fight including Biomancer (and, as I said above, probably put it in Atlantis, though I'm not willing to insist on that).

Fourth change, and this one is the great unknown: what is the last condition? On Steam, Feral Yoda suggests that AA needs to destroy all his instruments, leaving the Adept with only his voice--which would also fit the early-to-mid-'90s "Dark Age of Comics" feel of the whole endeavor, "I need to destroy these important things!" Alternately, maybe AA needs to injure his teammates, since that's what XPWAA does. So this leaves us with:

Lose a game to Progeny with the five Prime Wardens and Prime Wardens Argent Adept as the first hero. Then, defeat a Villain team including Biomancer with the five Prime Wardens and Prime Wardens Argent Adept as the first hero [in the Ruins of Atlantis]; [each of the Argent Adept’s instruments must be destroyed during the game].

(Brackets on that last clause because it could be something else.)

I haven't been able to try it yet, though.

I wonder if it's more along the lines of one of my favorite tactics: Using Syncopated Onslaught to trigger Dynamic Siphon. (Well OK my true fave tactic is using Scherzo to trigger Siphon, but Onslaught fits better here.)

After having Team Prime Wardens lose to Progeny and beat Biomancer, I tried setting up a scenario in which PW AA would have the opportunity to deal a whole ton of sonic damage.  I wasn't counting, but he was the main damage dealer in a fight against Challenge Akash'Bhuta, and it was mostly sonic damage.  He did deal the finishing blow.  The other Prime Wardens were not on the team.  No unlock.

My attempts, which have not been successful, went as follows.

First, I lost against Progeny, with the normal Prime Wardens team (vanilla characters, no variants.) and then, just to be safe, I did the same with the Prime Wardens variants.

Then, I had the team beat up some Villains (Biomancer, Greazer, Miss Information, Operative, and Bugbear; the ones that has their nemeses in them. Biomancer was chosen because he was explicitly mentioned in their bio).

Then they defeated Progeny, again in their Prime Wardens variants, in Atlantis. I’ve been trying to beat Biomancer et. al. At Atlantis, but have not been successful thus far.

After the above, fought Progeny in the Temple of Zhu Long with PW AA and no other Prime Wardens.  Although instruments came into play (by means of Conduct), the only power I ever had AA use was Conduct.  Finished Progeny off with a massively boosted Syncopated Onslaught.  No unlock.

So one of the things I noticed in the description of the order of the events on the Time v time cover is that it implies that they went to fight progeny, returned to Atlantis to regroup, then immediately after returned too look for progeny. Nowhere in there does it state that they fought progeny then biomancer. In fact, from what I understand of the time line of events, progeny happens after the Vengeance story meaning you probably need to fight Biomancer first, then lose to Progeny in a particular environment (probably somewhere on earth mostly abandoned, but not Atlantis because that’s where they went to regroup) then play in that same environment against a different villain right after. Probably have to do all of this with the while Prime Wardens team.

Just a wild guess really.

MC

No, they definitely did. They lost to Progeny, then went to Atlantis to recover. Then they went back, “weakened from a recent encounter with Biomancer.”

Another failure: took the vanilla Prime Wardens up against Akash'Bhuta in which AA used Vocalize every turn, and no other powers.  He sang every song except Counterpoint Bulwark (which he never drew) at least once.

Using only Vocalize to sing all 9 Performs in one game didn't do it.  All 9 songs were in play when I won.

Next attempt: with the help of Parse and Prime Wardens Haka, deal 100 damage with a single Syncopated Onslaught.  That's "extreme," right?

I don't want to send folks off on wild goose chases, but here is what I did over the last couple days. Keep in mind that I always, always used the PW variants rather than the base versions and I always had all 5 PWs with me and PWAA in the lead.

Basically, I assumed there would be prerequisite games and I knocked out a Progeny loss in Magmaria, a 5v5 Villains win in Atlantis with all the PWs below 10 HP ("weakened by a battle with Biomancer"), then a Progeny win in Magmaria.

the achievement popped when I was in the middle of a "try everything" game where I had Haka lock down Gloomweaver and Final Wasteland so I could just play around doing crazy megaturns with PWAA.

Yeah, I was abusing Dynamic Siphons and passing powers and card plays all over the place.

I forgot, I also did another early game of "PWAA in the lead, and he is the only survivor in a Progeny win" since the story says Progeny "left after making short work of most of the team". That was also in Magmaria.

But again, I wouldn't worry too much about all the stuff I threw against the wall until we figure out if I just bugged into it somehow.

I was just reading that line and it doesn't say weakened:

"Already on edge from a recent alteraction with the villainous Biomancer, the heroes launched an attack on the newcomers, who retaliated in kind."

This wording doesn't give a strong timeline as to the Biomancer fight in relation to the Progeny fight. A month ago could be a recent altercation.

A few more thoughts: The dark path that Sentinels Tactics timeline takes sounds like it could very easily be applied to Xtreme Prime Wardens.

Who is the guy on the Xtreme Prime Wardens: Argent Adept Incap side?

That's a good point. The idea is more that they reacted negatively to "other versions of themselves" because they knew Biomancer was out there somewhere, not that they had literally just come off of a Biomancer fight.

I don’t know if this is going to be a story unlock or a “crazy mechanics” unlock.

Looking at the cards in the Progeny deck, the art all shows basic AA. Maybe it needs to be the primary versions of the Prime Wardens who lose.

If it’s crazy mechanics, it could be “use X powers in one turn,” or maybe all instruments, or maybe play a whole lot of polyphoric flares (it would fit with extrteme AA’s base power.)

Tried losing vs. Progeny in the tomb, then winning against a Villain team that included Biomancer in the Time Cataclysm. Made sure to see and defeat Carbon Adept and Tempersonation in the process. Used all 5 Wardens in their PW variants for both games.

No unlock, but some more experimenting.

Tried losing to Progeny, normal, and Ultimate, in Magmaria and the Time Cataclysm. In case. Those seemed most fitting.

Have beaten multiple teams including Biomancer in different environments.

Also tried having Argent Adept give every character 2 sonic damage, a card play, and a power use during a game. Tried that both with an all PW team, and with Nightmist replacing Captain Cosmic.

Unlocked

Team: AA (original), Nightmist, Scholar, TL Tachyon.

Location: Insula Primalis

Villain: Ambuscade

Special things: I had one copy of each of the AA's songs out. Sang each song during the course of the game, some multiple times. Played 1 instrument, which I destroyed to get rid of a Cloaking Device.

I tried the above setup (AA, Nightmist, Scholar, Tachyon against Ambuscade on IP) with no luck. Some notes:

  • Had every song in play and played each one at least once (either perform or accompany). I used diverse powers for this.
  • Had Nightmist play Mists of Time (may be important, given the story)
  • Tachyon died pretty early. Also, it was SS Tachyon.

I haven't done the last Weekly (started it but never finished). It may be related to the unlock condition, as it features the PW.

I managed an unlock with AA, FS Parse, Hunted Naturalist, and The Sentinels versus Akash'Bhuta in Insula Primalis. I only did Perform on every song at least once; nuked a lot of things with Cedistic Dissonant though. (I think this actually the first time I ever used that Perform... I should use it more often, it's kinda fun.)

I did have a previous game where all five of the PWs lost to Progeny in the Tomb of Anubis, FWIW.

Clearly you don’t need to win, as it unlocks during your turn. (Or A turn, anyway.)

You don’t need NightMist or Ambuscade.

But just doing all the performs isn’t enough, as I did that against Ambuscade on Mars, and it didn’t work.

I think the conditions are as follows:

“Play a game with Argent Adept on the team (in the lead position?) against any enemy in Insula Primalis. Argent Adept must activate all perform texts at least once each, using no powers other than Vocalize.”

Using Silver Shadow is optional, as is actually destroying an instrument.

I'm pretty sure that a win is required, since each time I've done it, it was at the moment of the win. I think it is:

I did the same as Braithwhite and I also got the unlock at win time. I don't think there is any pre-condition.

The only thing that may be relaxed is that the songs may be destroyed after using (I haven't tried this) as long as each one is performed at least once.

Got it in Insula Primalis.  Each song performed exactly once using vocalize, no other powers used.  Accompany on Inspring Supertonic performed twice.

Looking at everything:

No unlocks outside of Insula Primalis.

I see screenshots of  3 different villians.

(Has anyone unlocked with AA not in the first position?)

My Hypothesis:

Win a game in Insula Primalis with Argent Adept in the first position.  Each Song's Perform must be triggered at least once. An insturment must be destroyed by Cedistic Dissonance.

My guess is:

Win a game in Insula Primalis with AA with all of his Ongoings in play. Each song has to have been Vocalized at least once.

May or may not need "No heroes incapacitated".

I can certify that:

  • No need for Mists of Time (no need for Nightmist)

Just unlocked on Steam.... here's my log:

Got him. Probably not adding much info.

Used AA, Greatest Legacy,  F6 Tachyon, Haka in that order, vs. Ambuscade in Insula Primalis. Used vocalize to trigger each perform effect at least once, sometimes out of turn. Unlock came on the win, which was on Haka's turn.

Everyone took fire damage from the river of lava.

OK, I confirm it must be Vocalise, not just Perform.

I used the team of Argent Adept (leading), Dark Visionary, Super Scientific Tachyon, Grandpa Legacy, Ra in Insula Primalis vs. Ambuscade.

I Vocalised everything except for Inspiring Supertonic and specifically only Performed with the Harp.  No Unlock.

Same team, Vocalised everything. Unlock.

Other notes:  I had an incap in my successful unlock.

As far as I can tell from this and the prior tests by others, the necessary conditions appear to be something like:

  • Argent Adept Vocalises all 9 of his Melodies, Harmonies and Rhythms (or perhaps just his 3 Harmonies?)
  • You win the battle
  • Insula Primalis (although not 100% guaranteed yet)
  • AA does not need to lead
  • Rest of team and Villain can be anybody
  • You do NOT need to lose to Progeny (I specifically have avoided fighting him since last week)

What we need to test:

  • Is Insula Primalis absolutely necessary?
  • Is it only a subset of the songs, such as just the Harmonies, or the Harmonies and Rhythms?
  • Do the songs need to be in play at the end of the match?
  • Can Argent Adept be incapped?
  • Is it OK to use a Power of an instrument?

I've attached my successful unlock.  Unfortunately, I didn't grab the log of the unsuccessful one in time.

For now, my guess is:

Normal Argent Adept is on the team and not incapacitated when you win in Insula Primalis.  Argent Adept must have used Vocalise to Perform all 9 of his Harmonies, Melodies and Rhythms throughout the fight.

Unlocked, Insula, Ambuscade, AA, Tachyon, Expat, Tempest.

Played every song, vocalized every song, destroyed only Xu's bell, never played Silver Shadow (so no accompaniments).

Played and performed every song exactly once.

Cheers, I've updated with a few more things we can test.

I'm about to check if I used the Power on an instrument in my log (I definitely played the card for several of them, but not all) - Edit: I did not use any other Powers.

We really should get one where somebody Vocalises everything but also uses the Power of an instrument as well.

I think the second thing will be to see if it's OK for AA to be incapped at the end.

No Unlock

AA, Tachyon, Ra, Tempest, Ambuscade, Magmaria

Vocalized every song at least once, never used any isntruments, sacrificed Bell to Concordant.

Other than using Magmaria instead of Insula, this was pretty identical to my last unlock, so I'm leaning towards Insula being required.

(In case anyone is curious, the first unlock was Steam, this attempt was Android).

OK, so I'm going to update my list with some of the info from the Steam thread...

As far as I can tell from this and the prior tests by others, the necessary conditions appear to be something like:

  • Argent Adept Vocalises all 9 of his Melodies, Harmonies and Rhythms (or perhaps just his 3 Harmonies?)
  • You win the battle
  • Insula Primalis
  • AA does not need to lead
  • Rest of team and Villain can be anybody
  • Instruments can be used
  • You do NOT need to lose to Progeny (I specifically have avoided fighting him since last week)

What we need to test:

  • Can Argent Adept be incapped?
  • Do the songs need to be in play at the end of the match?
  • Is it only a subset of the songs, such as just the Harmonies, or the Harmonies and Rhythms?
  • Is there any other card we might need to play, such as Vernal Sonata?
  • Does AA need to destroy a target?

Steam seems to be onto the idea that AA needs to destroy targets.  In my successful unlock, I did Cedistic Dissonant the Personal Cloaking Device, so maybe so.  The only other card I destroyed was with Sarabande of Destruction, so I kind of doubt the targets are necessary at all.

Unlocked. Ambuscade, Insula, all nine songs in play and Performed with Vocalize, no Accompaniments (though I can’t swear I’m not forgetting something).

I did destroy things with the Sarabande, but not with the Cedistic–it fizzled when I Performed it.

Oh, and I had previously lost to Progeny, if it matters.

I go play a squash match and you folks get everything figured out while I'm on the court!

The community has discovered the official unlock condition for Xtreme Prime Wardens Argent Adept:

Win a game in Insula Primalis with the regular Argent Adept on the team. The Argent Adept must use his Vocalize power to activate each of his unique Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm cards at least once each.

I'm kind of relieved, honestly.

Collective unlocks aren't a big deal when the entire team is available at once, but I could see needing to do two unlock games every single new time getting a little wearying.

Although… I'm wondering if maybe the Insula Primalis bit is the collective unlock part instead, corresponding to the warm place our PWs stumbled upon Progeny before meeting their doubles? Either that or our punk bard just never lost a boyhood fascination with dinosaurs…

Oh, I’d been assuming that because of the way they set up the Fall of the Variants, you only needed to do the prerequisite once

Though come to think, the precondition for the other Prime Wardens is just “PWAA must be unlocked.” It may still be that the rest of the XPW start with “XPWAA must be unlocked.”

If I'm remembering right, prerequisites don't count until after a variant becomes unlocked for discovery.

So if stuff like "first lose to Progeny" was a collective prerequisite like we'd wondered, if the variants were all unlocked at once you'd only have to do it once, but since they're being unlocked one at a time you'd have to do it every single time.

But like I said, I'm now wondering if Insula Primalis being a part of the conditions is a simpler collective prerequisite instead, since IMHO it feels kind of out of place otherwise.

Well, yes. But given that it seems we only needed to do one update/download to get the code for all the variants, my guess had been that the system would be able to track those details and simply wouldn't let the final unlock happen…eh. Never mind, irrelevant.

Though I have just now noticed someting–there don't seem to be Android achievements for the XPW, or at least, there isn't one for XPWAA. Steam has them, but Android…not.

My guess is that it will be in the order that the members joined Argent Adept in the fight against Akash. According to the SC Wiki, Captain Cosmic was the first to join Argent Adept and Fanatic was the last. I am not sure about the order with Haka and Tempest.

Unlocked XPW Cosmic!

I tried to do as little as possible to do so. I went with Cosmic, Gramps Legacy, Tempest and XPW Adept vs Ambuscade in Enclave. Cosmic ONLY played Constructs (12 total, I think, maybe 13), and I didn't even play one of each. 1 of the constructs got destroyed early (thanks Grenade Launcher), but I used Cataclysm to deal Ambuscade 13 damage. This did not incap him. Later that turn (because Adept is awesome) Tempest got the win and I unlocked him then.

In summary, there are no non-construct cards that need to be played, Enclave likely is the place to be, the unlock most likely is solely about destroying constructs.

My guess: Win a game with Captain Cosmic on the team in Enclave of the Endlings where Captain Cosmic destroys 10 or more constructs (in a single turn, perhaps?).

So the other day the question of Argent's eventual Dark Conductor variant came up, with the question of "So what should SFX for evil blood magic symphony conducting even sound like?" XD

Also part of me kinda hopes the background portrait has that creepy grin from the variant's incap, akin to Dark Visionary's portrait.
