Hi guys,

I got Season Pass 2 from the Kickstarter and I just noticed (due to looking at the latest One-Shots) that I'm missing the Vengeance DLC. I appear to have all the others but not that one.

Steam support unfortunately does not appear to have the right options for this as I didn't actually purchase the season pass on Steam. Help?

That would be a question for MigrantP, wen he's about. Have you sent a message to Handelabra through any of the channels?

This was my first thought on where to come for help when Steam support looked less than helpful, so no, I haven't. I'll check in on their forums now.

We have some steps to try on our FAQ:

The first thing to check is whether you’ve disabled the expansion packs using the Decks button in the New Game screen. It can be easy to forget!

If you’re on iOS or Android, open the Get Expansion Packs screen and make sure you’ve downloaded the DLC pack.

On Steam, there is an issue with Steam itself where this can occur. Quitting and restarting Steam fixes the problem in most cases. You can also try these steps:

  • Restart your computer.
  • Right click the game in Steam, click Properties, click Local Files, then click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
  • If you are playing offline, use the “Go Offline” feature of Steam.

You may also try contacting Steam support here: https://support.steampowered.com

Note that when you buy the season passes it won't show you as owning the individual expansions - make sure to look for the season pass (these are the first two items in the expansions list)  and download those.  You'll have to redownload when there are substantial updates (e.g. when Vengeance released,  when the Termi-Nation variants released), so if you downloaded the Preview pack but didn't redownload the Season pass after Vengeance came out that could be why you can't access that content!

I found what the problem was.

I apparently never activated my steam key for Season Pass 2. Whoops.

Got it now, the DLC is downloading.

Is it plugged in?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Reminds me of the time I thought I'd lost a deck of Yugioh cards and searched all over for them. Turned out they were in my pocket, was before I got a smartphone so I never really had anything in my pockets back then, thus never thought to check them. I always kept my wallet and phone in my jacket, backpack, or lunchbox.

In my industry, we say PEBKAC.

Problem exists between keyboard and chair.

I'm well aware of that acronym, as well as ID10T error.

I'm a database adminstrator myself. I don't use those terms where I work but the organization I work for deals with a lot of not very tech savvy people.

I'm going to chalk this one up to having gotten so many of those kickstarter e-mails I just never realized one of them would have said something about a steam key.

Yeah this is lesson number one in IT. Treat everyone as if they were your great grandmother. Assume they’ve never touched one before, and make sure you repeat everything twice.

Personally, I’m of the “Where are my sunglasses?” type of idiot. “Oh. I’m already wearing them.”

Granted, this can cause headaches for anyone who already knows pretty well what they're doing, as I only call tech support when I've already run through the standard checklist of options but then they still want me to run through the standard checklist of options and refuse to accept I already did that. :P

My other least favorite phrase is "we can't reproduce the problem on our end". (Guess my local newspaper isn't getting a renewal from me, then, as I still have no way to pay for it.)

The problem is that for every 1 of you, there are 10 others who claim they already did it, but actually didn't, and it's likely to solve the problem.

Not to mention that people who think they can do the basic tech support checklist in a week are often the ones who miss out a step.

For example the gaming/coffee shop I work at recently switched internet providers and couldn't get the public wifi connection to work, turned out that they had not connected the wireless router to the modem and I spent an hour trying to track down the issue with the wireless router because they'd definitely plugged everything back in right.

Maybe, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

I only contact tech support when something is absolutely broken in a show-stopping way that I can't find a solution to in the help files or online, so it's pretty frustrating when I have to waste time doing what I already did, even when I painstakingly described the exact steps I took and what the result was. So a lot of times I just lie that I tried it again (and then report the same results I already reported) to push things along faster. Or honestly at this point I've been trained to just chuck the broken thing and replace it with the competitor's product precisely because I don't want to go through the headache.

As someone who is an IT person and in other contexts generally considers himself to be quite tech savvy, but has had to ask migrantp for help on many occassions when trying to figure out how to get to playtester content in Steam and/or Android, I think we should give ourselves a bit of a break when dealing with technologies/areas infrequently. I only have one other android game on my phone and no other ones on Steam. I usually have to relearn the interface for doing anything on these platforms when the SotM content needs to be updated, and I find the Steam interfaces particularly challenging to navigate. First I have to get past the fact that there is both an application interface and a web interface, then I find the series of menu options and popups byzantine, and all of this is in the context of not being familiar with the lingo and tasks. If the steps I need to take aren't laid out in precise detail, I find it very easy to get lost.

I think the problem with Android and Steam specifically are that they're designed mostly by geeks.

Totally serious. I find that geeks have a really bad time with both providing sparse inadequate documentation and creating confusing UIs because they/we forget that not everyone has every programming language/shortcut/way of doing things memorized.

Yes, I obviously say this self-depreciatingly AS a geek myself, but I've spent my whole life basically in a blue-collar culture area and around people who don't really understand tech so I have a foot in both worlds. Don't get me started on the jargon we geeks think up, either. I've had so many non-geeks go "OH, is it really that simple? I never realized," regards geek concepts whenever I take the time to translate from Geek to English.
