I usually use the Sentinels Randomizer app to create a random game, because it ostensibly can be customized for how difficult a game you want.
Does the in-game randomizer (i.e., when you go to the "New Game" screen and hit "Randomize") take difficulty level into account at all, or is it truly random, e.g., it decides on a completely random hero team, villain, and environment?

It's about as random as a computer program can be.

It decides on a completely random hero team, villain, and environment.
If you partially set up a game and press Randomize, it will generate enough to make a playable game without changing what you have.

So the in-game randomizer could produce a total walk in the park, or a nigh-impossible challenge; no way of knowing which until you play it. Got it -- thanks!

There is a way to launch Sentinels with a particular game setup from an external app, if you have the developer of the randomizer get in touch with me I could give them the details.
