Just making this thread here so we have a place to discuss the unlock conditions for K The Naturalist’s variant.

Ooh, the wiki now has a longer bio of this variant:

Those hunting Michael have drawn ever closer. It's only a matter of time before they catch him. Cornered as he is, the Naturalist has been losing his grasp on humanity, struggling to maintain focus and keep a single, stable form. The Argent Adept found Michael Conteh once again in an inhuman state, but this time, the Naturalist was not a specific animal. Instead, he had the characteristics of several different animals, including animals he had never taken form of before. The musical magician helped his old ally calm and focus his mind, but his form continued shifting. Now, the Naturalist fights those who hunt him, though his powers are in continual flux.

His nemesis, Deadline, doesn't seem to be "hunting" him, per se.  The Naturalist is going after Deadline to protect Earth.  The same seems to apply to the Naturalist's mini-nemeses.  The only one mentioned as actively hunting the Naturalist is Ambuscade, but that's in his Vengeance incarnation.  So, not sure what to make of this.

Well, it mentions "Cornered" so wouldn't be surprised if Cornered Beast came into play.  I'd also suggest trying to pull off one of the "super" Bestial Shift turns.

Things I have tried:

Beating Ambuscade without ever having a form card in play

Beating ambsucade, with the naturalist as the only one incapped.

I tried having Naturalist defeat Ambuscade with all his forms, and a whole bunch of cards, in play - including two active Cornered Beasts. AA and Parse on the team.

No luck, but it is fun getting to activate two full Natural Form Powers on his turn, then dropping a Bestial Shift for another two on AAs.

I tried Baron Blade in Freedom Tower vs Grandpa Legacy, Argent Adept (Regular), Naturalist, Haka (Regular), and Visionary.

I shape shifted every turn and ended the game with At least one Cornered Beast, and Two Natural Form's Power in play. No luck with the unlock.

"struggling to maintain focus and keep a single, stable form. "

What about having all three form cards in play during a single turn? Something like start with Gazelle, play Rhino, then "transform" to Crocodile?

Tried that, Schoop. Also tried having all three forms in play at once.

intresting things to note

-Neither baron blade nor the enclave of the endlings have any plot conection to naturalist, so villain and enivonrment likely do not matter.

-It happened outside of the naturalist turn, so it is not entirely based on his power use or card play, and it occured during a resolution of knyfe's For the Greater good, before another cards is played by it, so I suspect it has a damage component

The current speculation on the Steam thread is that the requirements are something like:

1. The naturalist needs to get the finishing blow on multiple villain character cards.  (which, in the case of the unlock show, was allowed by Rogue Agent KNYFE playing the bottom card of the Naturalist's deck, which finished off the baron)

2. The Naturalist may need to be in a different form each time the finishing blow is struck (so you need to get X villian character kills as the rhino, X as the gazelle, X as the crocodile)

3. Cornered Beast may need to be in play.

4. My personal theory (that I am testing now) is that the Naturalist needs to get 1 villain kill in each form, with cornered beast in play.

4(a). I'm kind of curious is members of the V5 would count towards this goal. Seems like they should.

I think I should excuse myself from the thread cause I keep missing crucial details, like that it was rogue knyfe, not base

No, please stay!

Every thought is useful, and even if you overlook something, you might clue into something even more important. Right now, all we have is a single unlock, and some very vague ideas about what might (possibly) be required.  So try weird stuff, do things that you'd never regularly do (like never do damage as Knyfe, or never play a form as the Naturalist, or put together a team devoted to making him change forms every single turn) because we still have no real idea what is going to be the way to unlock it.

I just unlocked it on my phone.

Here is how I did it:

Have the Naturalist deal the finishing blow on 3 villains, using a different form each time (so 1 finishing blow with each form).

Cornered beast was in play (I used cards to deal the finishing blow, not Cornered Beast).

The naturalist was in the lead position.

I will attempt to re-create it in the Steam version and see if the same methods work.

You got robbed on another one with a very similar situation.  It also wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

I didn't "get robbed".  The person who claimed it for Haka was extremely polite, and mentioned that they wouldn't have found it without my work.  I didn't mind.

As for this case, I wouldn't have found it without the person on Steam.  So I'd prefer if they got the credit, and if they choose not to, then I'm OK with someone else getting it.

Fair enough.  I would just like to see you get credit since I felt you lost out on Haka only due to forgetting a screenshot.

Just a note, I thought I would game the system, and via Fixed Point and out of power shenanigans, I had all 3 forms out and defeated Ambuscade, no unlock.  So, either there's a restriction that you're ONLY in one form when you complete the objective, or the unlock doesn't know how to handle multiple forms (or we're still missing something).

Now, here’s the question. Is it win, or “deal the killing blow?” Because if it’s the latter, you could absolutely cheese this with the Dreamer

Can confirm that cheesing it with Dreamer does NOT work. I killed her 3 times, with Cornered Beast and a different Form each time. He was in the third spot, with Legacy and Argent Adept helping out. No luck.

So I think you have to WIN.

Just got the unlock on both Steam and Android using the same basic formula.  Get the killing blow (to win) against 3 different villains, being in a different form each time, and having Cornered Beast out each time (though I know someone got the unlock without it).  In the final game, I had NOTHING out but Cornered Beast.  I'll also add that I always made sure to use Bestial Shift at least once, just cuz.

Edit: Oh, and in case it turns out to matter, my team for all 6 games was Naturalist, Parse, AA, TLT, and Grandpa Legacy.

Here's the logs in case there's a piece we're missing.

The official unlock condition for the Hunted Naturalist has been discovered by the community:

Win three games where regular The Naturalist deals the final blow to the villain. Each different villain must be defeated while The Naturalist is in a different form.

Ok, just had to share this.

Going for Naturalist unlock. Already defeated Baron Blade in crocodile form so I wanna try gazelle.

I play PW AA, Legacy, F6 Wraith and Naturalist vs Deadline in DokThorath. Should be easy, right?

So Round 1 he has two catastrophies.

Round 2 he plays Pandemonium Key and a third catastrophe.  Wraith has no weapons out and I'm keeping Naturalist in Gazelle just to see how he is (only my second game with Naturalist).  So can't kill the key yet.

So that environment turn, a target is played and Deadline plays Unnatural Disaster playing 3 more Catastrophies.

Start of Villain turn, Calculated Orogenesis plays an Environment target which makes Deadline play a second Unnatural Disaster. Deadline's play phase - that is correct, the third Unnatural disaster. That's twelve catastrophies that Deadline destroys the environment with.

Good news? Legacy had played Heroic Interception. So no one took damage other than Legacy who gets incapped.  But I'm not gonna win right? Deadline still has 73 HP. I've never heard/seen the Deadline destroys the environment lose screen so at least I'll get that.

Wraith has Ordinance but that's it so still can't kill the key. Environment plays a target playing a catastrope.

Round 4 Deadline stays flipped, plays a catastrophe, destroys two leaving just one environment card left (Rebels).  Wraith got Microtargetting and Belt so can do a bit more. AA only has Supertonic, Bulwark and Lyre. I'm still keeping Naturalist in gazelle - I just wanna see the defeat screen.

Next round, Deadline unflips, plays two catastrophies has 50 HP. I'm dead right? Wraith got some Throwing Knives but no Sarabande or Grappling hook at all.

Next round, Deadline plays Auto-Armor Castor so still alive! But that's 10 more HP to kill and the third catastrophy is played. I'm dead right? But Naturalist got Craft Assault - hooray for Gazelle! Castor gets destroyed, Deadline at around 24 HP.

Next round Deadline plays last two cards in his deck so three catastrophies on the board. AA and then incapped Legacy each let Wraith Ordinance for 10 damage. Wraith Inventory Barrages for 10 more and Last Stand brings Deadline to 3 HP.   Naturalist, still in Gazelle plays Threatening Stomp for the victory!

So that was my very long winded story of Naturalist dealing the finishing blow to Deadline in Gazelle form. One mor game for the unlock!

I know - on the second last round, there was only a 1 in 4 chance of Deadline playing Auto-Armor Castor which kept the game alive.

Ironically, I hand-picked that team because I just wanted a quick 5 min game for one of the Naturalist unlock games and I assumed AA and Wraith would have plenty of Ongoing destruction and who loses with Legacy on their team?

Got it, and KNYFE, in the same game. I had previously won two games with Naturalist (Ambuscade with Rhino, Blade with Gazelle) so I made this one Voss at the Block. Took care of both requirements at once. Easy.

When I started reading this thread, I thought the 3 different villains could be 3 Vengeance-style villains. So, technically my 3 were Fright Train/Friction/Baron Blade with Rhino Form, Ambuscade with Croc form, and Baron Blade with Gazelle form, and got the unlock.

I went for easy win, but I wanted to see if Fixed Point shenanigans would confuse the trigger. Good news is it doesnt.

I won games agains Chokepoint, Kismet and Baron Blade with all forms out in each. My team was Naturalist, AA and Greatest Legacy to give more Power uses to Naturalist and Sentinels because I like playing with them.

So, apparently using Cornered Beast to win doesn't count.

I beat Baron Blade with the Crocodile.

I beat Voss with the Rhino using Cornered Beast while he was at 3hp (with 13 minions from Forced Deployment out).

I beat Ambuscade with the Gazelle

then I beat Plague Rat with the Rhino by deaing damage and got the unlock.

Yeah.  The wording of the unlock doesn't preclude Cornered Beast, because it's still a killing blow, but even if it didn't count towards the unlock, it felt awesome.

Hrm, no unlock. Easy games Ambuscade vs Legacy, TLT, Haka, Naturalist, and Wraith in Insula. Figure 3 up 3 down. Won with Antalope using Crafty Assualt, then Rhino and Croc both with stomp. Didn't proc the unlock. I'll speed through again just to be sure.

Did you beat Ambuscade three times?   If so, the requirement is for defeating three different villains with a different form out when you deal the final blow.

I recommend Baron Blade and Plague Rat. Blade is easy, and Rat has no ongoing destruction at all, like Ambuscade.
