Just tried:

Win against Akash (insula Primalis) with AA incapped, CC on team (no other prime wardens)

Win against infinitor in Dok'thorath.  CC in lead position.  all other wardens on team, only AA in prime warden variant.

No unlock.

It is entirely possible that you need to play Conservation of Energy at least once.  Or that you need to unlock the members of the wardens in a specific order.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I was about to try.

If you do need to unlock them in a particular order, it should be the order they joined, which would put CC next.

If you need to unlock them in a specific order, PW CC is the natural first- he’s explicitly the first person recruited to the team.

No unlock:. Won against Akash with AA incapped and CC in the team. Won against Akash again with PW AA and the other prime wardens. Won against infinitor in Dok’Thorath with CC , PW AA and the other wardens. Also tried that against Heroic infinitor. Infinitor did not flip in either fight.

Won against Akash with AA incapped, CC on team, no other Prime Wardens. Then won against Infinitor in the Enclave of the Endlings. Team was CC, PW AA, Tempest, Haka, Fanatic. Finishing blow was Construct Cataclysm on Infinitor’s flip side. I’m pretty sure I managed to play every one of CC’s cards at least once. No unlock.

Here is how I got it. it was accidental.

I had 12 Constructs in play.

Villain: Ambuscade

Environment: Dok'Thorath Capital

AA: Dynamic Siphon

Captain Cosmic: 2 x Automatous Blade, Cosmic Crest

Fanatic: Cosmic Weapon

Haka: Wounding Buffer, 2 x Vitality Conduit, Energy bracer, Augmented Ally, Wounding Buffer

Tempest: Augmented Ally

I got it on the environment Turn. The orbital laser came out, and hit all 12 constructs (for 0 because of Energy immunity). I got it unlocked after the final construct was targeted.

I believe it has to be to have all the types different constructs in play, and survive a hit to all of them.

That's pretty crazy!  Ambuscade in Dok'Thorath might actually be the easiest way to do it--Orbital Bombardment and that one soldier guy do energy damage to all targets, and Ambuscade doesn't have much that will take them out any other way.  Well, I can stop fighting Infinitor now.

I wonder if you could just have Sky Scraper's Huge form do 0 sonic damage to all of them, or if it needs to be all the Prime Wardens on the team.

When he's invisible he deals energy damage, and with cosmic crest, he is a push over. He damages the lwoest HP target with energy damage (which is typically a construct).

It just shows that infinitor is NOT required. May still work with infinitor though!

Maybe? I think they are all Prime Warden based, so you might need to use the PW team.

I am using Prime Warden Argent Adept.

I can confirm this is not enough.

I had all Construct types in play and Gene-Bound Ravagers hit them all (going from 4 HP to 2 HP) with no unlock.

I used PW AA but I purposefully left Redeemer Fanatic off the team.

So you probably need the full team.  I'm going to keep trying in the current game state I'm in to get a round where all the Constructs are attacked, but with Energy damage this time, but I doubt that'll be it.

Edit: Confirmed that Energy damage is not the trigger.  An Unavoidable Explosive came up and I still got no unlock.

It's not "Have one of each construct out and survive an attack/prevent damage to all of them" because I just did that, exactly one copy of each, and no dice.  Ambuscade in Dok'Thorath, with vanilla Tempest, Haka, and Cosmic, Redeemer Fanatic, and PW AA.  It might have to do with reducing/preventing damage by using constructs.  Perhaps a total amount of prevention/reduction during one battle?  I'll try to drag out the battle I'm in now, but Ambuscade is on the verge of death....

Just unlocked. Had an autonomous blade hit AA who reduced the damage with a bracer, and it unlocked after. Wounding buffer attacked and destroyed the autonomous blade as a result. Maybe it has something to do with a certain number of construct activations?

Just got it myself.  The triggering event was the first blow of Snatch and Grab that did a total of 2 damage to Haka (+1 Nemesis, -1 Ta Moko, -1 Energy Bracer).  So the damage wasn't entirely prevented, just reduced.  There was a whole ton of damage prevention, though--among other things, two Orbital Bombardments with Cosmic Crest and, respectively, 7 and 11 other constructs out.  Unfortunately, I was trying a whole lot of different things in this match, so I don't know if there were other criteria--I put out and used every type of construct, had 13 in play at the time of unlock, and had just spent a whole environment turn triggering and chaining a huge number of construct effects.

I wish I had logs on mobile...

Unlocked. Prime Wardens Argent Adept, Captain Cosmic, Fanatic, Haka, and Tempest, in that order, versus Ambuscade in Dok’thorath Capital. The Constructs in play are Augmented Ally x2, Autonomous Weapon x2, Cosmic Weapon x2, Dynamic Siphon, and Energy Bracer x2. I never got to use the Cosmic Weapons, so I don’t think using Constructs is part of it, though every other card. The unlock triggered during the environment phase, while Rebel Headquarters, Abject Refugees, and Thorathian Military were in play. Thorathian Military was trying to damage several Constructs, but failing because Haka had up Enduring Intercession, Ta Moko, and two Energy Bracers, redirecting all damage harmlessly to him. I think the key is to redirect damage from a minimum number of Constructs at once, because the unlock triggered before the Thorathian Military was done trying to damage all the Constructs in play.

I'm certain you have to make the Energy Bracer take a certain amount of damage. I've had Enduring Intercession out for a while, tanking all environment damage and nothing happened, until finally the Gene Bound Ravagers triggered the unlock. I used the prime wardens against Ambuscade in the Capital as others did.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say 10 damage has to be reduced by the bracers.

I had Energy Bracers absorb way more than 10 before mine unlocked. mine happened during an orbital bombardment.

Since PW CC's power is called "absorption," I'll bet the Energy Bracers have to reduce 30 or more Energy damage to trigger the unlock. And I think it specifically has to be energy damage that is reduced, not just any damage.

I just got it.  Energy Bracer reduced a self-targeted Syncopated Onslaught from PW AA to 0.  I had wailed on my Energy Braced heroes a lot by this point.  I'm going to get the log and figure out exactly how much damage was reduced by Energy Bracers, along with some other statistics...

JO
jorgenp

OK, so the absorption amounts are as follows:

Energy Bracers absorbed some damage: 14

Energy Bracers absorbed all damage: 4

Energy Bracers abosorbed some damage causing zero damage from other source (Undaunted): 2

Cosmic Crest ignored damage: 34 times (107 HP!)

The best number I can see here is that 20 total damage was reduced by Energy Bracers (14+4+2).

So my guess for the main condition is:

Captain Cosmic's Energy Bracers must reduce damage taken by 20 HP total throughout a fight.

The rest of the condition is probably something like:

Prime Wardens Argent Adept must be on the team (perhaps as Leader).

Can someone try a team without all the Prime Wardens on it to see how that goes?  I think we're pretty close here.

Okay, I'm definitely missing something.

PW AA, Cap'n Cosmic, Redeemer Fanatic, Haka, Tempest in that order vs. Ambuscade at Wagner Mars Base.

Energy Bracers blocked at least 40 damage (and probably closer to 60 - I stopped counting after a while) over the course of the fight. Some of it was further reduced to zero by other effects -- Ta Moko, Undaunted.

Are y'all reducing damage to just one target or spreading out the reduction to the whole team?

Sadly, the log disappears once I win the game.

Unlocked this morning!  Fought Ambuscade in the Dok'Thorath capital with PW AA, all the rest of the PW non-variant.  Haka had his Ta'Moko,  and Tempest had his otherworldly resiliance.  Both had energy bracers,  and the unlock happened when I hit Haka (wearing the bracer) with Redeemer's base power.  Nobody was incapped - I ended up getting the Flawless victory since I was healing so hard to buy time - I discovered if you put Dynamic Siphon on Tempest with Cleansing Downpour you heal back that damage and get a free heal on everyone else.  Had the Cosmic Crest out when an orbital bombardment hit everyone which absorbed tons of damage near the beginning,  but that doesn't seem to be important based on the other reports.  PW AA was the leader.

I spread my bracers around on heroes that had other damage reduction, so maybe it's counting the number of times heroes with an Energy Bracer get hit?  I had the prime wardens around and used the PW AA that I just unlocked. Fanatic doesn't have to be Redeemer - does AA have to be PW?  Maybe it's something like:

Energy Bracers reduce damage 20 times. (Edit: 20 times from jorgenp's log)

The rest of the prime wardens must be on the team (PW AA must be leader?)

That might make thematic sense, since the prime wardens showed up in Dok'Thorath at some point (to help Sky Scraper?) - and actually PW Cap Cosmic is on the Abject Refugees (who were out and had plenty of damage redirected away from in mine,  but the log showed a game where Haka Crushes them haha).  Ambuscade might be the optional bit.

Energy Bracers reduce damage 20 times.

PW AA (as lead?)  with regular Cap Cosmic, Haka, Tempest, Redeemer fighting in Dok'Thorath Capital.

Parsing the game log with liberal use of ctrl-f:

Friendly sources reduced damage 34 times:

7 from Otherworldly Resilience, 6 from Ta'Moko, 1 from Shielding Winds and…

20 from Energy Bracer

Cosmic Crest's Energy immunity kicked in 34 times.

Seems like 20 pts of reduction from bracers is at least one key component

Things to test now:

  1. do you need the full PW lineup?

  2. do you have to be in Dok'Thorath?

Just unlocked it in Dok'Thorath - used Prime Warden AA, Captain Cosmic, Legacy, Tempest, Haka in that order.  So, I can confirm that you don't need the full PW lineup.  i'm almost 100% certain Ambuscade isn't vital, we just use him as a guinea pig since he's the easiest villian.

MVP - Lead from the Front + Fortitude + Energy Bracer.

One small thing of note - in that game I had Fortitude out on Legacy before he got the Energy Bracer.  I'd dinged legacy enough times that it had to have been 20 pts reduced.  The trigger event for the unlock was a dead Sonic Mine, which deals 1 damage.  So Fortitude should've been enough to zero out the damage since it was played first but I got the unlock all the same.

Sonic Mine does 2 usually, so Energy Bracer would have been counting.

For those on Steam, you can usually find your log file at:

There's also a log-copy.txt for your second-most recent session.

If you post those, it can help us narrow down these conditions.

Seems like:

a) EDIT Be on Dok'Thorath  b) Perform 20 pts of damage reduction  c) obviously you have to have Capt Cosmic, but we know you don't need the full PW lineup - maybe you do need PW Argent though?  Since unlocking him is tied to unlocking the others?

PW AA is probably not needed as I just confirmed you don't need him for Tempest.  My current thinking is it is either:

Captain Cosmic in Dok'Thorath uses Energy Bracers to reduce damage 20 times throughout the fight.

or

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Captain Cosmic in Dok'Thorath uses Energy Bracers to reduce damage 20 times throughout the fight.

Edit: Scratch the above.  Dandolo had 22 damage reduction, it seems...  Hmm...

I have all the constructs out.  I have Energy Bracer out on Haka and Captain Cosmic.  Haka has Ta Moko and Enduring Intercession out.  All environment targets attacked and redirected to Haka.  With all of the DR, he is not taking much damage.

In my game, I blocked some of just about everything (all but Infernal, Psychic, and Toxic)

The one that triggered it was energy, but Being Ambuscade, we had taken plenty of it already. (Also, I only ever got 1 bracer that entire game. So Argent Adept had to bite the bullet a LOT for the good of the group. Got Cosmic and Tempest that game, though!)

OK, so I had 6 Energy damag and 14 other damage and Dandolo had 4 Energy damage and 18 other damage.  No patterns there, unless it's at least 4 Energy damage amongst the 20 must be Energy, which sounds absurd.

I thought I might have been onto something else as well given that our Energy Bracers were being destroyed throughout the battle, or how much is reduced for an individual hero, but that seems to not be the case either.

In both our logs, Prime Wardens Argent Adept was the primary recipient of Energy Bracer reductions.  I had 15 reductions on the unlock while Dandolo had 14, so that doesn't seem to be it.  Dandolo did have three more on a prior Energy Bracer attached to PWAA while I had two, but I doubt the condition involves the number 17.

Just in case, I guess we should posit:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Energy Bracers attached to a single Hero reduce 17 damage that would have been taken by that Hero in the same fight.

with perhaps the added conditions that the hero must be Prime Wardens Argent Adept and he may need to lead.

For my unlock, I used PW AA, TL Tachyon, Captain Cosmic, Haka, and Tempest.  I was greedy and got Tempest's unlock too.

I played against Ambuscade in Dok'tharok Capitol.

For the record, I had Augmented Ally, Cosmic Weapon, Cosmic Crest, Energy Braccer x2, Wounding Buffer, and Autonomous Blade in play.

Also, Dynamic Siphon and Vitality Conduit never saw play.  Cosmic Weapon was never used.

Like most, I got it while the constructs were applying DR.  Specifically, Ambuscade shot Haka which with Nemesis bonus was enough to trigger Shielding Winds, which was then reduced by Energy Bracer x2 + Ta Moko for a grand total of 0.

I'm curious if maybe the trigger has something to do with constructs reducing damage specifically to 0.  Has anyone gotten it on a hit that allowed damage through?

I'm beginning to think maybe it has to be Dok'Thorath.  I was on Wagner Moon Base, and I put out Enduring Intercession.  Haka took about 23 points of fire damage from Fire in the Biosphere after damage reduction from Ta Moko and Energy Bracer.

I'll try again on Dok'Thorath.

Hopefully we can get another log file soon to do some more comparisons.

The Dok'Thorath Capital idea is a good one, as PWCC is on Abject Refugees as pointed out earlier, and his bio mentions his fights on far-flung worlds too.  In addition, the quote on Energy Bracers is from Tempest's Thorathian War One-Shot.

So the closest we can seem to make it so far is:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Captain Cosmic fights in Dok'Thorath Capital using Energy Bracers to reduce 17 damage to the same Hero.

WA
WarrenAC

I checked the logs for things like:

  • All the constructs have to be put out (nope - no autonomous blade in jorgenp's log)
  • damage has to be negated (nope - Dandalo's unlock was after being dealt 1 damage)
  • final damage type (jorgenp's unlock was after being blockling sonic damage from argent, and dandalo's unlock was after blocking energy damage)
  • final damage source (while mine and jorgenp's unlock was off a hero source,  dandalo's was via Thorathian military)
  • final damage amounts are different (mine and jorgenp's unlock were off 1 damage source, dandalo's was via a 2 damage)

It could be something to do with it all happening to the same ally/by the same bracer - there are 17 instances of blocking to Argent Adept including the unlocking block in both jorgenp and Dandalo's log, but mine was off Haka.  So not necessarily Argent,  but maybe 17(?  that's a weird number)  blocks by an energy bracer to one target?  Maybe it has to be the same bracer - the bracer on Argent blocks 15 times in jorgenp's log.  It only blocks 14 times in Dandalo's log, but that's after sustained influence puts it into play.  Counting is tricky though so maybe I'm missing or double conting something...

All those counts match what I counted, so you weren't missing anything, I think.

We really need a third log so that we can figure out the common thread.  I haven't tried counting the effect triggers of all Constructs yet.  Maybe it's just coincidence that Energy Bracers was the final one.

There goes the theory of 17 damage reduced to a single target.  It took 20 for you, TakeWalker.

That means both you and I are on 20 reductions, but Dandolo still has that 22.  If not for the 22, it would seem so easy to make the condition be to unlock PWAA then have 20 Energy Bracer reductions in Dok'Thorath Capital over the course of one fight.

Perhaps I can get to taht tally of all usages soon, though...

JO

Total tallies don't seem to help unless the unlock is somehting like:

Unlock PWAA.  Then, Captain Cosmic in Dok'Thorath Capital has Construct abilities activate at least 30 times with at least 20 of those being Energy Bracers reducing damage.

Part of the problem there is I only tallied 29 uses of Constructs for Dandolo.  I just assume I miscounted by 1.

We need more logs.  If we can get anyone else getting the unlock on the 20th damage reduction, I think we can lock that in as a major cause and we then just need to figure out why Dandolo's unlock is different.

Wait, I think I have it!  Dandolo's first Energy Bracer was attached to Captain Cosmic and reduced damage twice...  So I'm fairly sure this is either it or very close:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept.  Then fight in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Captain Cosmic on the team.  Captain Cosmic's Energy Bracers must reduce damage taken by heroes other than Captain Cosmic 20 times.

If anyone wants to do further tests, please try it in other environments.

Edit: If you try it in a different environment and it still fails, then please try in Dok'Thorath Capital, but attach Energy Bracers on Captain Cosmic in addition to other heroes.  Another data point to show that it's 20 absorptions from heroes other than CC would be nice.

Edit 2: For completeness, the hero teams used in our unlocks were:

jorgenp: Prime Wardens Argent Adept, Captain Cosmic, Redeemer Fanatic, Haka, Tempest.

Dandolo: Prime Wardens Argent Adept, Captain Cosmic, Freedom 6 Tachyon, The Visionary.

TakeWalker: America's Greatest Legacy, Captain Cosmic, Freedom 6 Tachyon, The Visionary, Haka.

UXM266: Prime Wardens Argent Adept, Captain Cosmic, Fanatic, Haka, Tempest.

It's clear from the above that team make-up doesn't count (unless we need to add that CC isn't leader, but that seems silly).

Hey, folks! I've been brainstorming about the unlocking stuff over on Reddit, but I also seem to be the only person ON Reddit, so, I bit the bullet and created an account over here. >_>;

Regards this, I made this post there:

And based on convos, I have another guess for /u/MigrantP for Captain Cosmic's unlock:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Captain Cosmic fights in Dok'Thorath Capital using Energy Bracers to reduce 20 damage to heroes other than himself.

(Also could be "reduce damage 20 times" instead of "reduce 20 damage".)

That last at least seems to be a key point; over on the GTG forums Jorgen missed that in Dandolo's log with 22 damage blocked, 2 of the damage blocked was to Cosmic himself. So take away that and the "reduce 20 to allies" lines up again.
And got this in response from the Head Dude:
There are some other logs you should look at too.
Because over at this link on Steam, there's a dude who very definitely had only 16 Energy Bracer blocks.

So after looking at their logs and going through the other logs there and here and mine, I guessed this:
Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Captain Cosmic fights in Dok'Thorath Capital with Energy Bracers reducing damage to heroes other than himself and/or Wounding Buffers and/or Autonomous Blades dealing damage while equipped on allies, a total of 25 times between all the options.

Or I guess a less convoluted wording:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept, then Captain Cosmic fights in Dok'Thorath Capital with constructs either dealing damage or reducing damage a total of 25 times while equipped on allies.
But that didn't seem to be right either.

Here's my own log FWIW: http://pastebin.com/LkH5FpKd

Thank you, Jeysie.  I studied your log and noticed 20 damage reduction too.  No other combination of Construct usages seem to add up to the same value for all of us.   You are indeed correct that the Steam log only has 16 reductions from Energy Bracer.  I went searching through his log trying to find something that would provide the remaining 4 things that the rest of us didn't do.

I think the missing link is that he made heavy use of Argent Adept's Counterpoint Bulwark.  He uses it on a lot of things, heroes, Constructs and so on.  He just so happens to use it on Energy Bracers exactly 4 times.

Yes, the Steam one unlocks after an instance of Wounding Buffer, but the damage that triggered Wounding Buffer was reduced by Energy Bracer, so it kind of has the same timing as Wounding Buffer, which could explain things.  This is worth thinking about, though.  And I may do some more searching of the logs later.

For now, the following would match all the logs I have seen (I will try to check some more Steam logs now to see if it follows, though):

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept.  Then fight in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Captain Cosmic on the team.  Captain Cosmic's Energy Bracers must reduce damage dealt to heroes other than Captain Cosmic and/or other effects reduce damage dealt to Energy Bracers 20 times total.

This is indeed a little weirdly worded.  Perhaps there is a better explanation.  But there are a LOT of us that had exactly 20 Energy Bracer reductions, so it seems to be key.  I refuse to believe it's coincidence for now.

One more log for the pile!

I cut the log at the promo unlock; I can provide the after-effects, but they aren't interesting. But here's the kicker: I got the unlock off of Cosmic Crest preventing one of my Wounding Buffers from hitting the other Wounding Buffer. It was also my 20th Energy Bracer reduction in the middle of the chain, but the chain continued after the unlock concluded, so... maybe Cosmic Crest is a key component somehow? Is it the first time a Cosmic Crest is used post-20 reductions?

My Energy Bracers prevented damage 20 times, and my Cosmic Crest prevented damage (I think) 51 times?

Maybe it's something as simple as:

Unlock Prime Warden Argent Adept. Then play a game with Captain Cosmic, blocking 20 instances of energy damage with constructs.

Or maybe this:

Unlock Prime Warden Argent Adept. Then play a game with Captain Cosmic, reducing 20 instances of damage with constructs.

Or I could be totally wrong. :P

FrivYeti, thanks.  Your log is... very interesting.

You have 20 instances of Energy Bracers reducing damage to PWAA. You also appear to have 2 Wounding Buffers and an Autonomous Blade attached to AA and Legacy's Inspiring Presence is in play.  This means the sequence of actions near your unlock (using -- marks to space out interrupt levels) is:

PWAA initiates 1 Cold damage to PWAA and deals 1+1-1=1 damage. (19th reduction)

--Wounding Buffer A reacts, initiates 2 Energy damage to PWAA and deals 2+1-1=2 damage. (20th reduction)

----Wounding Buffer A reacts, initiates 2 Energy damage to Wounding Buffer A, which is blocked by Cosmic Crest.

----PWCC unlocks

----Wounding Buffer B reacts, initiates 2 Energy Damage to Wounding Buffer A, which is blocked by Cosmic Crest.

--Wounding Buffer B reacts, initiates 2 Energy damage to PWAA and deals 2+1-1=2 damage.

----Wounding Buffer A reacts, initiates 2 Energy damage to Wounding Buffer B, which is blocked by Cosmic Crest.

----Wounding Buffer B reacts, initiates 2 Energy Damage to Wounding Buffer B, which is blocked by Cosmic Crest.

--Autonomous Blade A reacts and hits something

--Autonomous Blade B reacts and hits something

PWAA initiates 1 Fire damage to something

The position of the unlock seems to indicate it cannot be coming from the Energy reduction, but instead from the Wounding Buffer, secifically the time it interrupted to attack itself.  This implies that the trigger can indeed be Wounding Buffer.

It seems unlikely to be Cosmic Crest related, as Dandolo only had it trigger 4 times (he had very few Constructs in play apart from the Energy Bracers).

We need someone to do a test that just uses Wounding Buffers and doesn't use Energy Bracers.  It seems these two Constructs are now key.  Perhaps it is an either/or type situation as posited in the team thread linked earlier.

I remembered that oh yeah, I still had my old tablet around, so I reinstalled the game and played a test game. I played against Baron Blade, in the Capital, with Grandpa Legacy, Team Leader Tachyon, regular Tempest, regular Scholar, and Cosmic. I went and made it so Energy Bracer was absolutely the only type of Construct played, always on allies. And it seems to have once again activated on the 20th instance of blocking damage.

Log: http://pastebin.com/Axd0hNYA

If you still need more, I can wipe my game and try it again with just the Buffers, though it'll take me some time to re-unlock PW Argent again first. (Mainly because I was reminded of how slow my old tablet is, which is why I got a new one in the first place...)

Yes, but I reasoned above that for that one, it was triggered by the attack doing damage too, so it was possible for the unlock to be delayed until after Wounding Buffer resolved.

In the new Wounding Buffer case, this theory is thrown out the window, as the first Wounding Buffer is still resolving and then another trigger of Wounding Buffer starts (which also triggers Wounding Buffer B) yet the unlock happens in-between.  It does not follow a delayed same-time incident situation and hence is probably actually triggerdd by the Wounding Buffer.

I kind of wish it had happened prior to the 20th damage reduction so we could be sure, though.

Phantom5613, your log is very interesting.  You only reduced 18 HP of damage with Energy Bracers.  Your unlock was upon redirecting Energy damage targeted at Abject Refugees to Captain Cosmic which was then blocked by Cosmic Crest immunity.  This was an instance of 2 damage.  And the Steam log had 4 HP worth of damage redirected the same way (although Captain Cosmic did not discard the card for Abject Refugees).

So yes, I think we have the key to solving this.  May I posit the following condition:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept.  Then fight in Dok'Thorath Capital with regular Captain Cosmic on the team.  20 total HP of damage initiated against non-Captain Cosmic cards must either be redirected to Captain Cosmic or reduced by Energy Bracer.

Please just pay this one if Captain Cosmic must also be immune to the redirected damage...  although I guess we should test it.  He was immune in both the logs so far.

If anyone hasn't unlocked yet, would you please try some other methods that would redirect to CC?  Wraith's Smoke Bombs seem like a good candidate, although you'll need Hero targets with fewer HP than the Constructs too to get it to work, so perhaps bring in Unity to drop some Bots.  I doubt redirecting from the Constructs to Captain Cosmic counts, given that Energy Bracer attached to Captain Cosmic does nothing.

If the above isn't it, I'm close to giving up.  I think it pretty much has to be it, though.  It sounds so right!

I know this could be silly, but could we check to make sure the condition isn't:

Unlock Prime Wardens Argent Adept. Then play a game in Dok'Thorath with Captain Cosmic on the team, and redirect damage from Abject Refugees to Captain Cosmic.

The Steam unlock did the Abject Refgee redirect twice, so it's not just that.  The combined values do add up, though.  Further testing done with other ways to redirect damage to Captain Cosmic would help discover if the Abject Refugees are explaining the discrepancy in Bracer reduction, or it's just coincidence.

I suppose the part my most recent theory ignores is also the apparent Wounding Buffer unlocks.  I'm not sure how they factor in.

Could it be related to damage reduced to 0?  like prevention by crest or reduce to 0 by bracers?  Or maybe just preventing damage dealt to contstructs?

Maybe it's based on something like "20 activations due to damage to heroes",  which would cover Wounding Buffer,  Energy Bracer and Cosmic Crest. Most people don't put the Energy Bracer on Captain Cosmic so it's tough to check whether the "not Cap Cosmic" is really a thing.  It's definitely not just damage reduced to zero, since some unlocks have happened after non-zero damage was dealt,  and it's not all redirected damage, since a lot of the unlocks happen after direct unredircted damage.  Most of the logs don't have the unlock after Refugees redirecting damage - my unlock was with Fanatic pounding Haka (with bracers) directly with her base power - so it doesn't have to be the unlocking damage.

JO

The issue with counting activations is that neither Autonomous Blade nor Wounding Buffer seem to affect the 20-count for Energy Bracer.

It could be a race condition...  e.g., either 20 total reduced/redirected damage or activations of Wounding Buffer etc, whichever happens first.

I'm really somewhat burned out on this one.  We have a guaranteed way to get the unlock, but we're either adding something extra or missing something else that can trigger the unlock.

I suppose the first thing we need to figure out is whether Dok'Thorath Capital is actually needed.  Can somebody without the unlock please test.

It doesn’t involve Cosmic taking damage. In my run, only Argent ever had the Bracer, ads therefore we only redirected damage aimed at Refugees to him.

While they aren't necessary, they can help.   Phantom5613's unlock happened on a redirection of Abject Refugees damage that did not involve any form of Energy Bracer reduction at all, so there are clearly other paths to the unlock apart from Energy Bracer.

We need another datapoint for the Abject Refugee redirection.  It could be coincidence that the log with 18 reduction had 2 HP redirection and that the log with 16 reduction had 4 HP redirection, but we can only know if we get logs with other cases of redirection to Captain Cosmic, both with and without Cosmic Crest in play.

It's kind of annoying that we have a way to guarantee you unlock PWCC, but it is just missing other paths to the same goal.  We need more people that haven't unlocked it that are willing to test for us.

I never redirected from Abject Refugees.

Maybe it's something like "On Dok'thorath, use Constructs to reduce or prevent a total of 20 energy damage to cards other than Captain Cosmic"? So redirecting from the Refugees counts because you're preventing that from getting hit.

I apologize for the length of the txt file, but I was also trying for Tempest's unlock at the time.

Team was PWAA, CC, Tempest, Wraith. I had three Megacomputers in play most game, so the environment was swinging for nothing, but it wasn't until I blew them up and got one out that the order of operations changed to the Energy Bracers reducing first... mostly. The final unlock came when a Genebound Ravager's hit agains Wraith was reduced first by the computer, then by the bracer.

Abject Refugees was in play at the time.

Hope that helps.

This is VERY helpful.

You have 24 instances of Energy Bracers reducing damage.  7 of those are to Captain Comsic.  So that leaves 17 to others.  However, 3 of the 7 were instances of 1 damage targeted at Abject Refugees redirected to Captain Cosmic.  In all three cases, this was an instance of 1 damage each and it was reduced by Captain Cosmic to 0 via an Energy Bracer.

So this matches my unlock condition proposed above.  It doesn't tell us if the redirected damage must also be reduced/or ignored, but we will get to that.

That's what I proposed in my last try above, except it includes the concept that Captain Cosmic must be immune to the redirected damage, whereas I mentioned it as a 'please pay this' comment afterwards which was perhaps ignored.  This is why we also need some tests with other methods of redirecting to Captain Cosmic, such as Smoke Bombs.

If anyone hasn't gotten the unlock yet, please try getting Abject Refugees to redirect an instance of 2 or more damage to Captain Cosmic when Captain Cosmic has Energy Bracer attached to himself several times.  Then attach other Energy Bracers to other heroes and hit them as much as possible unitl you get the unlock.  Then please send us the log file.  That should help us get the final piece of the puzzle (as to whether the redirection or reduction after redirection is important).

For the phone unlock, perhaps just prove for us whether or not Dok'Thorath is needed first.  Remember to unlock PW AA first.  Just focus on getting Energy Bracer onto heroes other than Captain Cosmic and tally how many times they reduce damage.  If it doesn't unlock at 20, try a few more times just to make sure you didn't miscount, and let us know.  Then repeat in Dok'Thorath.

We'll use other logs to try to figure out the intracacies of the redirecting mechanic.

If anyone on Steam hasn't unlocked and is willing to help, please let us know and we can come up with a sequence of steps explaining how you can do so.

I feel really silly for forgetting to save the log right after I explained how to do it :P , but I wiped my old tablet's game install and set it up again, and using the same setup and methology I had the last time in this thread except switching out the Capital for Realm of Discord did not result in an unlock. I also remember someone on Steam saying that they too tried swapping the environment and only got the unlock when they changed back to the Capital.

Anything else you would like me to try? I had been thinking of trying to go for having Wounding Buffer be the only construct I play, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Captain Cosmic's new bio mentions "the very foreign soil of far-fling [sic] worlds."  That could mean Dok'Thorath, certainly, but it could mean the Enclave of the Endlings or potentially even Wagner Mars Base.

I think that's enough to prove the Environment is necessary.  Perhaps try the Enclave, but that would be really annoying if we have to figure out exactly which subset of Environments work.  Let's continue to assume Dok'Thorath is the only one for now.

Things we need to try:

  • Requires a log: Redirect damage to Captain Cosmic from Abject Refugees so that Captain Cosmic reduces some of the damage, but not all of it (with Energy Bracer).  Do this a few times before using Energy Bracers on other heroes to get the unlock.
  • Requires a log and a complicated setup: Bring Tachyon to the fight. Use Synaptic Interruption to redirect a damage source of 3 or more to Captain Cosmic while he has an Energy Bracer attached.  Then go to town on your other heroes that have Energy Bracers attached until you get the unlock.
  • Requires a log: Redirect Energy damage from Abject Refugees to a Construct while Cosmic Crest is in play.  Then go to town on your other heroes that have Energy Bracers attached until you get the unlock.
  • Dosn't require a log, but it would help, and it may not work: Don't play Energy Bracers on anyone except Captain Cosmic.  Try to get an unlock via Wounding Buffers and other constructs.

The first and second will nail down if it is redirection or reduction/immunity post-redirection that is being counted.  The third tests whether the damage must be redirected to Captain Cosmic or whether a Construct is fine (this is probably the least important test).  The fourth will try to figure out whether there is an alternate path we are missing.

Edit note: I modified the second test to make it easier to set up.  It used to be a Smoke Bombs/Mechanical Golem combo.

There's nothing special about that one.  The final two Energy Bracers triggered at the same time, so the 20th and 21st reductions were simultaneous.  The unlock couldn't come between them as it's not a valid time for the card unlock to pop up.

In that case, for those that are following Steam and Reddit, is there anything that has been mentioned there that we have missed here?

Every log and dsecription so far seems to follow the pattern of a total of 20HP either reduced by Energy Bracer or redirected from non-CC targets to CC.  We also have confirmation that Environments other than Dok'Thorath don't work and it seems logical that PW AA needs to be unlocked first, given PW Tempest's conditions.

However, the above is not enough.  Things we don't know yet include:

  • When using redirected damage to make up the 20HP, the logs we have reduce the damage to Captain Cosmic to 0.  Would they still count if the damage were reduced but not totally?
  • Could redirection to Captain Cosmic's Constructs work in addition to redirecting to Captain Cosmic?
  • Do methods of redirection apart from Abject Refugees work?
  • Why do some of the logs wait until a few Wounding Buffers have triggered before the unlock occurs?  Those logs still follow the 20HP reduced or redirected clause, with the Wounding Buffers triggered by the same damage that should trigger the unlock, so is this just weird timing of simultaneous effects or are we missing something?

We really need a test that determines some of this for us.  I think this test would be great to help us tie up the loose threads:

Use Tachyon's Synaptic Interruption to redirect damage to Captain Cosmic and/or his Constructs.  Have some but not all of it reduced by Energy Bracer attached to Captain Cosmic.  Get the rest of the 20HP total by attaching Energy Bracer to other heroes (probably best to have only one each per hero).

That methods easier than the Smoke Bombs test I mentioned earlier.

This is an interesting one.

  • A total of 13 unreduced damage is redirected Captain Cosmic's way in three separate occasions.
  • 3 of the Energy Bracer reductions were from damage initiated against Captain Cosmic, but then redirected via Alchemical Redirection to The Scholar.
  • The final unlock comes from damage initiated against an Energy Bracer redirected to The Scholar and then reduced, so these instances definitely count.

I can't get the numbers to add up, so there must be something else I'm missing.  If the unlock had happened one reduction later, we'd perhaps have most things solved, as we could say the damage initiated against Captain Cosmic and redirected away doesn't count and the redirects to Captain Cosmic weren't counted due to it not being reduced/made immune.  Those descriptions only put the log at 19 reductions, though.

Man, we are so close to this condition, but yet so far...

But yeah, this is weird. We know that "Unlock PW Argent, then while using Cosmic in the Capital, block damage to other heroes using Bracers 20 times" works, but it obviously is not the whole premise.

Two of the blockings are double counted due to an undo of the end of Dok'Thorath environment turn,  so this has 19 blocks against the bracer on The Scholar,  and one against the one on Freedom Six Tachyon = our classic 20 blocks.

So, I've got two devices that haven't unlocked Captain Cosmic yet (PC, Android), so I'm willing to try a couple tests.

Can someone point which things you'd specifically like to be tested?

Oh right, duh! I forgot I undid a second time because I wanted to try to rearrange steps to keep more damage sources alive to speed things up. >_<

Well, now I'm stumped again. What are we missing? Is it because I didn't put Cosmic Crest on Cosmic? I was trying to take on the variables one at a time.

Do you still have the log in unedited form?  I'd like to check it with the undo information properly removed.

That is the unedited log. I simply forgot there were two undo points when I did my own count of 22 blocks. The second undo is line 669.

Oh, I guess this log version uses a different undo style to Steam…  I'll get back to you soon on my thoughts.

Here's a few tests that can be done:

Test 1: Finalise whether redirection with reduction works -

  • Unlock PW AA
  • Start a fight in Dok'Thorath with Tachyon and Captain Cosmic on the team.
  • Have Energy Bracers attached to Captain Cosmic and at least one other Hero.
  • Have Tachyon play Synaptic Interruption.
  • Deal Tachyon 3 or more damage and redirect to Captain Cosmic with Synaptic Interruption so that it is reduced via Energy Bracer.
  • Deal damage to the Hero/es with Energy Bracers (not Captain Cosmic) until you get the unlock.  We will need to know how many times this happened.

Test 2: See if redirecting into immune Constructs works -

  • Unlock PW AA
  • Start a fight in Dok'Thorath with Captain Cosmic on the team.
  • Have Captain Cosmic play Cosmic Crest.
  • Wait until Abject Refugees are in play.  At some point, redirect Energy damage targeted at them to Cosmic Crest or another Construct.  Note that it must be Energy damage.
  • Attach Energy Bracers to Heroes other than Captain Cosmic and deal damage to them until you get the unlock.  We will need to know how many times this happened.

OK, new thoughts on your log, Jeysie:

  • You've shown that redirection either requires reduction/immunity, or that the only redirection that counts is Abject Refugees itself.
  • It seems that damage initiated against Captain Cosmic and redirected elsewhere does count towards the total of 20, despite the damage reduced by Energy Bracers attached to Captain Cosmic not seeming to count.  Alchemical Redirection was a useful card to have in these tests.

Given these, the unlock condition might be something along the lines of:

Prime Wardens Argent Adet must be unlocked.  Then in the Dok'Thortah Capital with Captain Cosmic, the total of damage redirected from Abject Refugees to Captain Cosmic and damage reduced by Captain Cosmic's Energy Bracers to other Heroes must be at least 20.

I suppose I still haven't figured out what's up with the Wounding Buffer delay to the unlock, though...  Perhaps it's just a weird quirk in the timing?

The refugees appreciate your help! The community has discovered the official unlock conditions for Prime Wardens Argent Adept:

Prime Wardens Argent Adept must be unlocked. Then, in a game in Dok’Thorath Capital, standard Captain Cosmic must prevent a total of 20 damage that would be dealt to other heroes or refugees. The prevention must be accomplished with Energy Bracers or by redirecting damage from Abject Refugees to Captain Cosmic.

Yay for us solving the puzzle!

Boo for me having the answer 5 days ago and just assuming it was all 'non-Captain Cosmic cards' instead of going directly to just Abject Refugees first.

I suppose this may be my comeuppance for Haka Crushing the Abject Refugees to get them under Savage Mana in my unlock!

Thanks for the help Jeysie, although I had previously thought it might just be Abject Refugees only, I needed your log to have enough info to actually suggest it might just be them.

MigrantP, how did it feel watching us squirm for so long on this one being so very close?  Also, I guess we have no more need for a hint on Monday…  unless we cash it in on Santa Guise…

You have all the information you need to solve Santa Guise, but nobody has done so.

Happy to help!

Sorry it took so long, in fact, but doing PW Argent's unlock repeatedly on an old slow tablet was… well… slow. (Also, why is it that I have had my fair share of times I've almost lost to Akash while legitimately playing, but when I'm actively trying to lose it takes forever?)

The good news is I can help with Santa Guise testing a lot more easily.

P.S. Honestly I feel kind of silly I never picked up on the Refugees bit myself, but I frequently had Refugees either never show up or it wasn't Cosmic I redirected the damage to.

Easy trick: Fight Ambuscade (low damage output) and put an Energy Bracer on Fanatic. Then, have Fanatic pop a Sonic Mine with Divine Sacrifice. With enough targets in play, that'll make for a TON of reduced damage.

You might wanna have a second Bracer, or Undaunted just to make sure Fanatic doesn't get too much damage piled up on her.

Wow. That's a crazy unlock. I know I never redirected from the refugees, so lots of false positives in there! :O

The easiest way I found to unlock it was to use PW Tempest, pile all the Energy Bracers on him, and then use his power as often as possible.
