Fanatic, Absolute Zero, Ra: Horus of Two Horizons and Tempest battle Citizen Dawn in Megalopolis.

I got Mint, but with Fanatic at 1 HP and all other heroes incapped.  There are certainly some fun surprises in these deck orderings...  Have fun!

Took too long for Absolute Zero to get a Fueled Freeze, and after he went down, everyone followed soon after.

I hate Citizen Dawn. :/

Near Mint.  First game was lost through a combination of bad luck (Close Quarters Combat when I was counting on bouncing some fire damage to kill Hammer) and stupidity (Using AZ's power while Close Quarters Combat was in play)

Second game I mostly ignored the citizens and focused fire on Dawn.  It was still very close, but we AZ was the only one knocked out, and we ended the game with a clear field - no Citizens, and now Environment targets, due to Ra and Tempest's AOE attacks.

Mint, and oh boy was that a fun, very fragile game.

I used Consecrated Ground to get rid of the first Return With The Dawn, but then couldn't deal with the later Channel The Eclipse, so I had to weather that storm. I chose to destroy all four of the initial Citizens because they all suck. I slowly got Absolute Zero setup pretty well with the Modules, Focused Apertures, and Impale, and Fanatic held on to her Wrathful Retribution until the last round. Then I WR'd Dawn for 20-1 damage, Impaled & Fueled Freeze & Modularly Realigned Thermodynamics for 9-3 damage, and Fire Blasted & Blazing Tornadoed for 8-2 damage for the win.

Easy Mint, with everyone at 6 or 7 hp. Flesh of the Sun God was huge this game, as was AZ; she kept bringing back Hammer. Summer would hit AZ and Ra. AZ would heal, and Ra would laugh. Then Hammer would hit AZ, and AZ would kill him, saving everyone else.

Another game-saver was using Fanatic to play Zealous Offense first turn, and figuring out how to maintain it no matter what. First turn it was hitting herself, with Dare’s buff, for 4 with her power. Turn 2 it was blowing up Return with the Dawn, and hitting herself and Ra (then the highest) with the splash from that, and skipping her power. One turn it was using Holy Nova, which only actually hit the environment target (the “can’t draw” one, I think) and then using her power on it for the last 2. She only ever let it drop when she got down to Prayer, Wrathful Retribution, and another copy of Zealous Offense. She chose to draw the cards instead. This was also the turn Dawn flipped, and the turn right before Blood came out. (leave Spring alive, btw. It will make her flip back that much faster)

Once she flipped and flipped back, I tore into her. Fanatic took a turn to set up Absolution and Zealous Offense again, but then dropped Retribution with 6 hp, dealing 24 damage.

AZ only ever used his power to heal, once he got the card, but Cold Snap and Impale really helped. A well-timed Hoarfire (immediately the turn you first draw it, and after Apertures) took out an early environment threat, and a lot of his health, but he was never really at risk. Just as long as you get rid of every environment card ASAP. Except the good one.

Ra got to use a lot of his powers; I discarded Drawn to the Flame, Fire Blast, Scorched Earth x2, Imbued Fire, and Excavation (in no particular order) over the course of the game. I did use a Flame Spike, though, to clear out Blood and a Monorail.

For Tempest, ignore his defensive cards, except his Fortitude clone. Start with Hail Storm, then do Lightning Slash next. Then Chain Lightning a couple times, and eventually Localized Hurricane for better damage and card draw. A late game Electrical Storm is pretty great too.

Here is a picture. Interestingly, all of my Sentinels pics are dated 12/31/1969. I wonder if that’s in any way significant?

Mint.

Flesh of the Sun God FTW.

I used that power as much as possible, and it really saved me. Sort of nerfed Absoulte Zero, but he still had an Impale going, and he lasted long enough to get out a Fueled Freeze that was really hlepful.

Absolute Zero was incapped on the last turn (Citizen Blood took him out). It was also the turn that Dawn flipped and immediately flipped back, thanks to Spring and Tears sticking around from the previous turn. At this point, Dawn was at 23 HP. Paparazzi came out on the environment turn, so no powers.

Fanatic was at 8 HP, and used Wrathful Retribution for 22, leaving Dawn with 1 HP.

So I was able to win on Absolute Zero's incap turn with the ability "Destroy a target with 1 HP"!

That's something you don't see every day!

Nice, Pete!

I just got my mint cover, with all the heroes standing (barely). Zealous Offense was the star of my game, letting me focus fire on Dawn while ignoring her underlings, after I cleared out the two Return with the Dawns and a Channel the Eclipse on a Fueled Freeze.

I won by doing 5 melee damage to her in cramped quarters with the Staff of Ra.

Fairly comfortable Mint here with only Ra dropping down into single digits. As with others, Flesh of the Sun God was the card of the game, as Citizen Hammer kept coming back again and again and again. I had Fanatic sacrifice her entire opening hand to drop Citizen Anvil on her first turn with Wrathful Retribution and that gambit definitely paid off.

Dawn flipped with around 35 HP left, but flipped right back the following turn due to Spring and Blood and after that it was just a matter of focusing her down. Fun game though! :)

Mint.

I burned Wrathful Retribution on the first turn to take out Anvil, and that served me pretty well, considering she drew Prayer of Desperation immediately after. Imagine that. After that, it was touch and go, with me taking out citizens, and Hammer REPEATEDLY being resummoned by Return with the Dawn only to be immediately killed when he tapped AZ with fire damage. AZ ended up dropping to almost 2 HP, but when I finally drew Fueled Freeze, I knew it was over. Max damage meant I could take Dawn down from her 20 remaining health in a single turn (which was fortunate, because Fueled Freeze also added the 5th+ citizen to the trash).

Only Fine for me this time. Dawn has never given me that much trouble before, but between Hammer Time and all the discards I just couldn’t get rolling. I tried it a couple different ways but settled on this method, as told through the eyes of our heroes… at their summer jobs!

Fanatic - Traffic Cop: Who’s responsible for this mess? You there! I know you! Good thing Anvils are for striking Thonk! Now let’s clear this up. You just back this truck up, then you and you get outa here. Hold that thought, I gotta catch a train. No. No pictures please, ma’am!

Absolute Zero - Relief Tent Volunteer: It’s a scorcher out there folks! You need to cool down. And you need to cool down. And YOU need to cool down! Looks like we’re over capacity, I’m going to have to call a halt to that bringing bad guys back to life thing you have going on. Gosh I am working up a sweat. Hey Dawn, I’m just gonna put this big AC unit right here, so you can stay cool all summer long! What, you guys want some too? Time for a brief Cold Snap!

Ra - Firefighter: Hey man, like, I know I have just that one job, but Tempest is gonna fill in for me, man. I’m just gonna hang back and put out the flames for once, ya know? Like a temp job, man. If ya need me to burn somethin’ here or there I can do it, ya know? But it’s, like, totally hot enough out here, man, I’m gonna try this protection gig.

Tempest - Hitman: Alrighty! knuckles cracking Time for some Hail! And lightning. And more hail. And more lightning! I really love the weather here. What say we do that number again? Awwww all fall down? Well I’m gonna do it anyway!

Mint.  Played this one side-by-side with a coworker who recently picked it up on the phone.  We took different approaches from the beginning and he ended up with Near Mint instead.  I spent a long time staring at the board at the start before enacting my plan...

Fanatic - I'd never burned Wrathful Retribution in round 1 before, but it was really tempting with Anvil on the board.  I went ahead and did it and was rewarded with her first draw being Prayer of Desperation (apt!).  From then on, Fanatic dealt damage where she could (Final Dive, Absolution, Smite the Transgressor were all helpful) and also came back from the dead thanks to Aegis.  Definitely wouldn't have won without that resurrect.  Finished with all of 3 HP.

Absolute Zero - Poor guy had literally nothing to do for the first half of the fight, but he took over when Ra went down.  He was consistently at or near the highest HP because I kept healing for 2 HP per round (Null-Point + Focused Apertures).  Fueled Freeze came up just in time to wipe all three of Dawn's Ongoings at the time (Return / Return / Channel the Eclipse), then AZ kept healing up until he got Thermal Shockwave to go along with a hilariously-timed CQC. Why, yes, I would love to smack you all around and not kill myself, thank you.  Finished with 4 HP.

Ra - Only used his base power once thanks to Flame Spike.  Otherwise, I kept spamming Flesh of the Sun God every round.  It burned me in round 1 (*thanks*, CQC) but otherwise was a total lifesaver.  On one hand, it prevented AZ's usual shenanigans; on the other hand, there's no way I would have survived without it, because Hammer Returned with the Dawn at least 3 times.  Ra went down about 2/3 of the way through the match after being quite helpful (Scorched Earth in particular was a nice couple of 3 damage AOE hits).  His incap power to put a Villain card from the trash back on top of the deck sounded great until I looked at Dawn's 11 cards in the trash and realized I didn't want her to play any of them!  Instead, I blew up an ongoing, then Luminous Leadership came out, so I cycled that one a couple times.  I could live with her regaining 1 HP a round given most of her alternatives.

Tempest - Consistent damage from Grievous Hailstorm and one-shots.  Shielding Winds saved us from at least 6 damage from the Plummeting Monorails, while allowing them to stay alive to smack Dawn around.  A++, would use again.  Finished with 1 HP.

Environment - This environment spread wasn't as bad as "When it Rains", but it was still pretty bad.  Back to back Hostage Situations came up right around when I got hit with a Blinding Blast and Dawn flipped, bringing out Blood & Tears, so for a couple turns, Fanatic was the only one with any cards in hand, and I felt pretty helpless.  Things turned around after that, though.  I won on the turn when Targeting Innocents came out – had just enough damage to finish Dawn off before it triggered.

Dawn - Even without ever seeing That Card, this was really tough.  I can't imagine what would have happened had I not had Hammer come back repeatedly - if Truth or Dare had been cycling in and out like for my coworker, I would have been toast.  I was trying not to flip Dawn, but it happened when she had 36 HP, and it was horrible - she got out Channel the Eclipse and two Return with the Dawns, which made her go from 0 minions in play up to 4.  :\  Luckily I still had some sweet AOE damage from Tempest and I could soak Hammer's damage for a round.  Once she flipped back and I was able to blow up Ongoings, her deck slowed down considerably and I chipped her down from 36 to 0 without taking significant damage (though I would have been in serious trouble if a Plummeting Monorail hadn't been in a position to hit itself).

Thanks everybody, I finally got FINE on this one.  I hate Dawn.  I never would have thought of using Wrathful Retribution on turn 1, but that helped immensely, getting rid of Anvil.  I also got luckier this time with Hammer coming out more than Truth/Dare and Anvil.  I didn't use Ra to block fire that much, I let Zero bounce it back to Hammer more often.  Of course he ended up sacrificing himself in the meantime.  The other 3 survived, barely.  I was even able to keep Dawn from flipping by having Tempest ease off a bit one round.  Glad to have that one behind me!

TL;DR  I used tips on this board to get FINE

Is it just me, or are Dawn's weekly one-shots the most consistent PITA's?

I skipped the first one, tried the second twice and failed both times. Wondering if I should bother with this one.

Dawn is always a rough matchup but at least in this case you don't have to worry about that one card which drives people up the wall more than anything.

I got both those cards out (they come out in order!), then the deck reshuffled, she played five more cards, and I won.

Tempest, with his one mighty HP left.

Near Mint.  First time around, floundered too much between deciding to focus fire on Dawn or kill Citizens and ended up doing neither very well.

Second time around, focused on Dawn better.  Double skipping AZ once (twice maybe?) to get Fueled Freeze a round (or two?) earlier helped a fair bit.

Minted this one, with all heroes at 6 hp or under. Only mistak in hindsight was killing Bloody instead of Tears. Couldn't keep enough to cards to take out Tears and keep up the damage on Dawn.
