Data Back-up?

I play Sentinels on an iPad given to me by my employer.  I just got an email that we are moving to a new management system, so they will need to remotely erase all data on our iPads.  Is there anyway for me to back up my game data (i.e., variant unlocks and weekly one shot covers)?  I hope it's as simple as just syncing my iPad with my iTunes, but I fear it isn't.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about the weekly one-shots but if you use the same apple account associated with Game Center those achievements/unlocks should come up when you open it up on the new device.

When I upgraded my ipad, I did a device backup through itunes, and then restored it to the new device. I had to redownload the software but my weekly one-shot collection reappeared. It was quite painless.

So my employer finally moved to the new management system and my iPad was wiped and I have an issue that I hope can be resolved.

The story thus far:

1)  I did a data backup for my iPad before it was wiped by my employer.

2)  I restored the backup and all of my Weekly One-Shot covers were right where I left them.

3)  My iPad was having issues and after discussing with the IT department at work, it was decided that it was because my backup restoration reverted the changes made by moving to a new managament system.  My iPad would need to be wiped again and I would not be able to restore from the backup.

4)  I redownloaded the SotM app from the cloud, restored purchases, and as I feared, there is no Weekly One-Shot collection to be found.

Does anyone have any idea if and how I can restore it?  I still have the original backup that I restored in Step 2 so the data is stored somewhere.  I can also still restore that backup if there's something special I need to do with the game data before I wipe.

I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I might have start from scratch, but I'm really hoping that's not the case.   Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Full disclosure, I also contacted tech support at Handelabra, but I wanted to cast a wide net because this problem is bothering me probably way more than something like this should bother a grown man.

I'd wait to hear back from the Handelabra team but I'm afraid it may be lost unless you can keep your prior restore up.

I am reminded of the incap of Completionist Guise from the foil collection.

Hahaha.  I know you're joking, but you're not all that far from the truth.  I've actually never liked the Weekly One-Shots.  I appreciate the work the team does on them and it's a great idea in theory, but I hate the way that it "punishes" (I admit that's an overly strong word, but bear with me) those who try to figure out the solutions for themselves and rewards those (like me) who wait for someone to figure it out and copy it.  I know in my heart that this is not something that should bother an adult, but I'm a lifelong comic collector and video gamer and "completionist" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Maybe I can explain my feelings better by way of an analogy:  I love Zelda games.  I've beaten almost every Zelda game released to 100% completion.  My goal is to beat each game 100% without using a game guide, but when I've done as much as I can and I feel like I can't find anything else, I'll check a guide for the last few items that I missed.  When it no longer feels like fun and just feels like labor, I throw in the towel, but I still want that 100% on the front screen.  Now, although I just said I don't like using guides, the first thing I do when I get a new Zelda game is Google "[Zelda Game Name] Missable Items" and, although it can sometimes be a bit spoiler-y, this helps me be on the lookout for any items that one can miss if they don't get them the first time through, usually due to a glitch or a designer oversight.  Every Weekly One-Shot feels like a "missable item" to me, so I feel that my best chance for getting a Mint is to at least read some tips from a few others who have already done it.

Awhile back, I posted a SotM puzzle on this forum.  It was a description of a set-up and I challenged forum-goers to try to determine the best way to win the scenario.  I had also written most of another one and never got around to posting it.   If I had more time, I would take pictures of the set-up instead of the description (with permission of course) and post that instead.  I really enjoyed the mental exercise of working backwards from the solution and I think the few people that checked it out enjoyed solving it as well.  In my perfect world, the Weekly One-Shot would be more like that.  Or something like "Win the following challenging scenario" and you would get a rating of Mint, Near Mint, etc. depending on certain restrictions like finishing with all heroes above or below a certain health or something like that.  You would be able to play it over and over to try to meet the criteria so that it was always possible to get a mint with logic, practice, and perseverance.  Of course I realize that wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea either.

I just realized that I got a little carried away explaining that lol.  To get back to my original topic, I heard back from Handelabra customer support today and there is indeed no way to restore my cover collection on my current device without restoring the full back up which I cannot do.  It's actually the only app I have that I was not able to restore from a Facebook back-up or through a game server.  I'm a little disappointed, but I'll get over it.  The silver lining is that I think I can now break the cycle of feeling compelled to do the Weekly One-Shot and instead try to find some enjoyment in it.  There's no point in sweating what rating I get on it, if it's just going to disappear when I get a new iPad in the future anyway.

One last thing I'd like to say:  I hope this post doesn't come across as overly critical.  I think that the Handelabra team does an amazing job in implementing an already amazing game and the Weekly One-Shot is a really cool addition that they didn't need to do, but that a lot of people appreciate.  I can even say that I appreciate the effort they put into it, even if it's just not my cup of tea.  I wish it was more to my liking and I'm bummed that I have nothing to show for the time and effort that I put into completing them since the beginning.

Edit:  Fixed some bad grammar and altered a few word choices to underscore that I'm not mad at Handelabra  :slightly_smiling_face:

It did not seem overly critical to me. Interesting perspective.

Chromium_Man,  I very much agree with you.

I actually find myself playing less Sentinels now that there are weekly one shots.  I think "I would like to play some Sentinels.  Well if I'm going to play some Sentinels I should get that one shot out of the way.  Hmmm... I don't really feel like playing that one shot.  I guess I'll play something else..." and then cheat and cram on Sunday just to get my "Mint" solo and multiplayer.  Then I'm too burnt to play for fun.

I agree, this shouldn't bother a grown man as much as it does, but I can't help that this is how I feel when I think about playing a game I use to just like to pick and play for fun.

Maybe Handelabra could add an option to hide the Weekly One-Shots?  An "out of sight, out of mind" sort of thing?

I want to buy a copy for steam so I can play on my computer when I go places that make it illegal to use wifi so it becomes difficult to play on ipad with people. Wonder if they will do a game + season pass 1 + season pass 2 bundle for steam

I like them, but I’m not sure i like how punishing Mint is. Like, first try I get, but maybe if you just can’t rewind more than a certain number of times? Because sometimes I just accidentally click “choose for me” when I mean Confirm, and I’d like to be able to take that back.

Maybe if there was a way to know when hidden information was being revealed, and only prevent rewinds then?

Or just, you can’t rewind more than 2 phases back at any given time.

You should not expect to get mint every time. It requires skill, care, and luck. Not getting mint is not a failure.

If you really want it.. then just be more careful =)

But my collection! I mean, I can usually pull off Near Mint easily enough.

Frankly, if you make a mistake in a One-Shot, the onus is on you for having made that mistake, not on Handelabra for their conditions for getting Mint. I have played the One-Shots since the beginning, and I have made very few instinctive-clicks that ended up costing me. Granted, I generally play these much more carefully than an average game due to the higher stakes, but that's what makes them more fun.
