Wraith, Legacy, Zero vs. ADVANCED Spite in Rook city
GO!
Got the mint, but I still hate Spite.
Smoke Bombs and stun bolts carry the day. Set it up so Legacy was taking the brunt of the damage, but reducing it with Fortitude. Never found a utility belt, so Wraith was just firing the stun bolt every turn. Finished with an Impale/Hoarfire/Thermodynamics combo from zero.
Mint count 8/9
Mint!
At least this is one of the better teams that can handle Spite.
As long as you get Stun Bolt and Smoke Bombs out in time it shouldn't be too bad. Fortitude and Inspiring Prescence come quickly enough as well.
Lead from the Front and Next Evolution are the other good Legacy shenanigans that work well vs. Spite.
Once you stop taking damage from Spite the win becomes inevitable.
For the record I saved 3 bystanders! (including the Sidekick!)
Sadly, my first failure to get mint. I ... I can't speak about it.
I couldn't get it either. My obsession with taking Spite out with a Razor Ordnance shot may have contributed.
Not to be a jerk, but it's kind of funny considering this one shot is based on your story.
If I had let it go one more round, I could have taken him out with an Inventory Barrage, but didn't want to risk the mint if something unexpected came out of the environment deck.
MINT
AZ and Wraith died
Legacy had the avst majority of his ongoings out, until i was able to get next evolution, danger sense, legacy ring and motivational charge,
Became immune to toxic. And used their incaps to either paly more cards, and heal him. I absically gained an HP each round.
Mint, with everyone alive. (Wraith 8, Legacy 3, AZ fluctuating rapidly)
Lead from the Front + Smoke Bombs to funnel all the damage to AZ, who could heal everything with his +3 cold damage. A few Stun Bolts, Next Evolution set to Toxic (probably not necessary, but it made me feel better) and a Legacy Ring so that Legacy could shield and galvanize at the same time.
Once AZ brought Spite down to 3, I held off on killing him, so that I could let Wraith deal the finishing blow. Then he got crushed by Falling Statuary instead, which I decided was good enough. Or at least, flat enough.
Bah. My first miss at Mint.
Somehow I never got a Stun Bolt or Fortitude, meaning that I couldn't mitigate the constant flow of damage. I got Smoke Bombs eventually, but by then I was hemmoraging and the loss was only a matter of time. Hate Spite so much. Just a frustrating villain.
That said, I LOVE that this one was based on a forum story. Nice choice!
I got Near Mint, but was disconnect at the beginning screen of my first game, so I was cheated out of my Mint. Curse you!!!!

Mint for me. Was able to get The Wraith and Legacy to match health and use smoke bombs to redirect all the damage to AZ who just kept regaining HP. (Coupled that with double stun bolts) Then started with the inspiring presence recycling trick and ended with a pretty smooth ride.
(youhou, my first time on the video game!)
Mint. Everybody between 11 and 16.
Like waedens above:
First stage with the infra red to help the flip.
Double stunbolts, smoke redirecting all damage to AZ with full set up. 4 victims saved.
I was lucky with the cards, I must say.
Is this one a fixed or random seed?
It didn't say, so I would guess that it was fixed, but because the "put 5 cards in your trash when you use a power" drug came out almost immediately, there would be a high rate of divergence in the hero draws.
Mint, thanks to double Stun Bolt, Next Evolution, and Lead from the Front, along with a bunch of Absolute Zero shenanigans. 'twas pretty fun, I have to say (though I generally don't like games against Spite).
Yeah, I get that a lot too - if I'm the game leader I usually ask if anyone has a preference for villain - most of the time no one does but I've gotten more "No Spite, please" than anyone else with only Miss Info being even close.
The deck-milling drug adds some interesting variance to this one and it can get hairy, especially if you don't do Absolute Zero math correctly. The two mistakes I made but overcame were a) playing Wraith's Combat Stance first turn, thinking it'd be helpful. It's not - Spite heals away the crackback damage in phase 1 and in phase 2 if you're playing your cards right, Wraith shouldn't be taking damage at all - she can hardly afford to, and b) getting cute with Hoarfire one turn to the point where I couldn't use Thermal Shockwave - not healing that turn had a snowball effect (pardon the pun) of getting Zero's HP dangerously low. On my second play-through, I didn't get either Fortitude or Thermal Shockwave but it really feels like only two cards that really matter in this one-shot are Stun Bolt and Smoke Bombs.
3 heroes against spite is generally a good game. If you go up against him with 5 heroes his damage reduction gets really hard to overcome. I think that is where he gets a bad rap. 3 hero games against him are generally enjoyable. And if there is any Villian that is "good" to fight in Rook City, Spike is the one.
The first go was rough. I didn't find any Stun Bolts, Fortitudes or LEad from the Fronts or Smoke Bombs. (I blame the lack of deck-milling, due to my refusal to use powers when that toxic drug is out). So that one didn't go so well. I think SPite was down to about 35 hp when I busted out.
Second time, I chose to use Wraith's Eyepiece first turn, which then let me draw a Stun Bolt!
Yay!
Then I won.
This. Combat Stance is mostly worthless. As others have said, Smoke Bombs and Stun Bolt won me my mints. For any who need help, if you use Legacy's power on turn 1, you'll immediately draw a Fortitude after the mill, and that helps immensely.
Mint, took me a while to get set up. I only ever got 1 stun bolt. For me the key was using that plus smoke bombs and lead from the front to make sure all villain damage went to and then was redirected from Legacy. Actually a pretty fun game, but then again I actually generally enjoy Spite.
Mint for me. Stun Bolts and Smoke Bombs along with Lead from the Front and Next Evolution won the first time in the deck. Took forever though. Wraith would not draw Utility Belt, Micro-Targeting Computer, or Impromptu Invention so her damage was rather low and Absolute Zero wasn't getting his damage cards. Eventually found a Cold Snap and Impale along with a Hoarfire to get some damage down and finished with Wraith taking Spite out with an Inventory Barrage.
And thanks to Infrared Eyepiece managed to saved 5 bystanders. Also learned with the girl, if the damage is redirected it doesn't count for her condition, always be sure to read the card closely.
Unfortunately I did not get a stun bolt until my 2nd to last turn. This game did not go my way.
Failed my first attempt. This is my first time not getting Mint. I am not surprised.
Also, Spite sucks. *ahem*
Easy mint. I didn't even notice it was on advanced until I came to this thread, in fact.
Legacy had 3 Heroic Interceptions in-hand pretty early. Combined with Smoke Bombs (which I pulled with Invention), that meant three rounds of no damage to any heroes before he flipped - I used those turns just setting up, mostly not even using powers.
Once he flipped, he was down in two rounds. Everyone still alive, although Legacy was on 1HP.
Easy mint. Found stun bolt x2 / fortitude + lead from the front and a couple take downs fairly early on, which led to the decision to eyepiece drugs to the bottom instead of rushing the flip like I normally do on advanced spite. Chipped away at him with thermal shockwaves, threw away forced entries, and bided my time so I could entertain myself with him punching himself to incapacitation with safehouse damage once the last drug finally surfaced.
Dr. Tremata and our private eye friend were a great help and stayed in play for most of the game.
Got my backside handed to me first time through. Got a near mint thanks to Smoke Bombs, Stun Bolt, Motivational Charge and AZ continually hitting himself with cold damage. It got very repetitive after I flipped Spite.
Played once, got 3 turns in, realized it's Spite and I would actually rather offer myself as one of Spite's victims than play against Spite, quit game. No mint for me this week.
Seriously, that one deck actively makes me hate playing Sentinels, which is saying something since it's my favorite game
That's some intense hatred. I realize most folks aren't fond of Spite but this was a fairly good matchup.
Good matchup or not, I just find everything about his deck, his mechanics, his drugs just anti-fun. Miss Info is annoying but at least isn't so thematically dissonant
Then why did you even start it if you can't stand playing against him that much?
Huh. I never saw hide nor hair of either of them.
Probably a competionist like me. Must have all the mints!
Near Mint in Local (sob), Mint in Online mode. I've mastered this One-Shot, and it only takes 7 rounds of set-up and calculated power-skipping and double drawing to get it. I got my revenge on him in Multiplayer, and that's fine with me.
I like having the mints and thought I could get through it better in digital form. Did not happen that way
I never thought I would get Mint as I hate fighting Spite, but I managed to get it. Lead to the Front, two Stun Bolts, Cold Snap with Absolute Zero and everytime I had to return a card to hand because of flipped Spite I just picked Inspiring Presence so I kept healing.
Never saw Stunbolt or Smoke Bombs, so I dunno about relying on those cards to carry me. Forgot how much of a jerk Spite can be on Advanced.
Mine was a slow victory. Got 1 early stun bolt then didn't get the other or an impromptu invention or trust fund until after Spite flipped. Didn't get Next Evolution, but I got Inspiring Presence and smoke bombs. Combined with AZ getting all the things, AZ tanked for Legacy and Wraith while Wraith and AZ dealt damage. Legacy healed with returning and re-playing Inspiring Presence.
My first ever mint, but only just.
Used Wraith with eyepiece and stun bolt early on with Legacy tanking until Spit flipped while AZ got set up. After the flip, Wraith and Legs were swiftly batttered down (I completely forgot to use smoke bombs!) and AZ slowly....slowly heal\damaged his way through to the win.
Final healths... Wraith 0 , Legacy 0 , AZ 7
For a Spite game, it was rather fun. For a Spite game :D
Got mint on this, thanks mainly to 2xstun bolt + smoke grenades. A few turns all of my heroes were at 7 hp, so everything got redirected back to Legacy, who took the damage down to nothing. I made a couple of mistakes, but once the second stun bolt was out everything went smoothly.
I was expecting to have a harder time, really.
Got a near mint. Pretty much had to lose Wraith's first 5 cards to draw a stun bolt. If you don't get a Stun Bolt against Spite, you can't beat him with that team. Beating him all comes down to damage reduction.
I replayed it a couple of times after I got a MINT.
Best thing I did was skip twice with Legs and Wraith, to get two cards until i got the damage reduction cards, and on the rare occasion ONLY play a card with Legacy.
No mint. Didn't get stun bolt, so that was part of it. I just really hate this setup, given the shallow hero choices. Might not even attempt it again. That was a crushing defeat.
I actually had so much fun with it that I played it again in normal game mode. Got the win again, but it was a much harder game as I never was able to get out smoke bombs.
Stun Bolt isn't required, I never used it when I beat it.
I personally always require Stun Bolt, but there are other ways to get the needed damage reduction against Spite.
I used Stun Bolt, but Heroic Interception/Smoke Bombs and Throat Jabs were my MVPs.
I never saw a Throat Jab or Heroic Interception. I did get out an early Stun Bolt and Smoke bombs though. Those along with recycling Inspiring Presence and AZ being AZ made this one a cake walk.
If not for the video game, I never would have realized just how much of a beast AZ actually is.
I played too many real life board games this week and had to play this one last minute.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE ABSOLUTE ZERO. but I got the mint once he died.
He is by far my worst hero and I just never get all his cards going - even when he starts with 2 of them in hand. Because Spite was hitting me too hard everytime I used a power, I used no powers till he flipped - just setting up Wraith really. An oopsy with the environment deck (the thugs who up villain damge by 1 but you can play cards of v+e decks to destroy them - but flipped Spite doesn't play cards and the environment buildup does damage) led to some brutality which eventually left me at Wraith 1, Legacy 5, Absolute Zero 1 by the time I got Stun Bolt + Smoke Bombs + Fortitude going to make myself damage immune. Trying to heal AZ got him killed when the environemnt buffed Spite for a turn, but him being dead just let Wraith do 3+6+5 damage per round which was enough to drop Spite.
https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/heros-guide-absolute-zero
This is a pretty good guide on how to use AZ
Zero is tricky to use, but if you get him going, he has some of the best damage output in the game. My run-through on this one shot had Zero doing 20+ damage to Spite each turn at the end of the game.
Galvanize used, Inspiring presence in Play
Start of turn - Impale for 4 to Spite (-2 from the drug)
Hoarfire: 4 cold to Spite, 4 fire to Zero, transducer reacts so 6 cold to spite. 3 cold to zero for heals, 3 fire to zero, transducer reacts for 5 more cold to spite.
Power: thermodynamics for 3 fire to zero, transducer reacts for 5 more cold to Spite.
Was able to do that two turns in a row.
When we first got the game we said he was called Absolute Zero because he did absolutely nothing. We then figured out how he could tank so he became a damage sponge. Then we figured out how to manage his damage out put coupling him with Ra. From there it became more and more clear how to make him a beast. Obviously he is better against Villians that don't have much equipment distruction and he hates the red dust, but is still a fun character to play in any circumstance.
