As has been much observed lately, Matriarch can be super-annoying to deal with in the App, due to the vast number of clicks resulting from her retaliation damage. I've given the matter some thought, and have a possible way of addressing the issue. Of course, the App devs have likely given it more thought than I have, but perhaps we can collectively come up with some useful improvements.
Here's my first cut:
Any binary choice menu (mostly Yes/No, but also Matriarch's retaliation and Twist the Ether's damage) comes with a checkbox "Always make this choice the same way".
Having made some choices automatic, you need a way for the player to override that choice at will. The simplest way I can think of is to put an "toggle auto-choice" button somewhere (perhaps the lower right corner, which doesn't see much use, but is easy to click on). This button should toggle between letting auto-choices proceed or not. Thus, when a player sees an exceptional situation coming up (or has just rewound to before one), she can click that button to resume manual control (and, if desired, uncheck the relevant auto-choice box). Tapping it again should reinstate any auto-choices that have been set.
Ideally (though perhaps not on first implementation), this auto-choice should apply to all cards of matching name. If I've decided that I like Obsidian Field, or that I'm never going to put Good Samaritan in the Safehouse, that is unlikely to vary between instances of the card. -- Oh wait, that doesn't work for Hero cards, as 2 copies of Twist the Ether may well want to act differently...
I think auto-choice decisions should NOT persist between games, however, as these matters are often highly situational. Also, one of the *good* things about seeing semi-frequent prompts is that it reminds you that there *is* a choice here, which is sometimes valid to make in a non-default way. For that purpose, however, once per *game* should more than suffice, as opposed to the once per *turn* we have now.
Once you have the concept of auto-choices that can be overriden at will, the idea could be extended to make more complex types of choice automatic (e.g. TtE's Damage Type).
