Here are the accessories I use to enhance my SotM gaming experience. If you’d like, you can print them out and use them too. They can be found at:

http://www.spiffworld.com/sotm

1) Card Boxes

Card boxes for all the environments, all the villains, and all the heroes for both the core set and Rook City expansions.

The Environment and Villain boxes are 1/2" deep and will fit both the thinner core set cards as well as the thicker cards that came with the expansions and the Expanded Edition, so you won’t need to print new boxes if you plan on upgrading to the Expanded Edition. However, because there are so many more cards in a hero deck, those thicker decks will require thicker boxes. Expatriette and Mr. Fixer both already have the 3/4" boxes to accommodate their thicker cards, but once the Expanded Edition comes out, I’ll update this collection to include 3/4" deep boxes that will fit all of the new, thicker hero decks. I’ll also post a separate .zip file containing the older, thinner boxes for people who are still using the original core set.

2) Card-sized Health Trackers

These hp trackers utilize a dual-spinner design and are small enough to fit in a card box along with each hero/villain’s cards, making them a good, portable alternative to using dice or whatever to track hero & villain health. Trackers for all of the heroes and villains in both the core set and Rook City are included.

3) Oversized Hero Cards/HP Trackers

These are 4x6 oversized hero cards that include an integrated hp tracker. All the heroes from the core set and Rook City are included, as well as the Young Legacy and Rook City Wraith alternate hero versions.

4) Oversized Villain Cards + Advanced Mode Cards

These are 8x6 oversized villains card. All villains from the core set and Rook City expansion are included. They combine the two separate villain cards that come with each villain deck into a single, giant target for your heroes to focus on. I’ve made a couple of modifications to the cards which I think are improvements:

To save room on the card, and since you don’t always need the Advanced Mode rules, I’ve broken Advanced Modes out into their own normal-sized cards. If you are fighting the villain’s Advanced Mode, you just lay out the Advanced card and follow the rules as shown. But if you’re not fighting the Advanced Mode, the Advanced Mode text isn’t on the villain card and you can completely ignore it.

I’ve made other small changes to the layout of the card to improve readability and flow when quickly scanning the card, including the use of an “SV” and “EV” icon to replace the verbose text “at the start of the villain turn” or “at the end of the villain turn”. This saves space on the card, improves readability, and the icons are colored to make it easy to quickly see what needs doing at what points during the villain phase.

Also, the rules on the Omnitron villain card are a little different than the ones on the normal villain card. I incorporated a suggestion made by someone here on the forums that lets Omnitron get devices out a little bit more regularly, which makes him a bit more interesting and challenging as a villain, IMO.

5) Oversized Environment Cards

These are 8x6 cards that have a place to put the environment deck and discards (kind of like a placemat for the environment). They aren’t necessary in any way, but I think having them laid out on the table next to the villain cards gives extra color and flavor to the game. Feel free to ignore these if you don’t have the room when playing, or if you just don’t think they’re something you’d like to use. All core set and Rook City environments are included.

If you find any mistakes or problems with the files, please let me know so I can correct them.

This is awesome!!! I think I’m most tempted by the big villain cards, but i’ve played a few times where space was already limited…I’ll probably make them anyway.

As promised, I’ve added a link in the original post to card boxes for every environment, villain, and hero. As usual, if you see anything that needs fixing with the files, please let me know.

I’ve also added a link to oversized cards I use when playing to represent the environments. They’re by no means necessary to the game, but I like them.

There’s one more set of files I’d like to post up, the oversized hero cards with built-in spinners that I use while playing. I’m going to have to go through the files and simplify them before they’ll be ready for outside consumption though, so stay tuned for those.

I’ve updated the original post to include a link to the oversized hero cards with integrated hp tracker spinners that I use while playing. That’s my last group of accessories to post, so enjoy. When Rook City comes out and I hopefully get my hands on the art from that expansion, I’ll post files for all that new stuff too.

I noticed something when I tried putting together one of the card boxes, the top and bottom’s depth is less than the sides, thus making them not able to fit correctly unless you fold past the line to make more space. Also, the Rook City Hero boxes seem a tad small, it looks like you made all card boxes the same size, while the decks in Rook City are bigger than the core set.

  1. I’ve printed out every one of the card boxes I’ve Photoshopped up, and I never noticed that the tops/bottoms of the card boxes are indeed about 1/16" smaller than the sides. I’ll update that and post a new .zip collection. In fact, it will be a good excuse to do something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, which is to include the new art from the hp trackers that went out to the Kickstarters on the back of the hero boxes.

  2. Before I actually got my hands on the Rook City expansion, I had posted up a .zip file containing new card boxes, because I figured that since I already had the art there was no reason to not just slap it on my card box template and share it early. Once I actually got the cards though, I saw that their new thickness would require a thicker box, so I reworked my template for Expatriette and Mr. Fixer, and that’s what’s posted up currently. I just downloaded the .zip that is posted here to double-check, and both Mr. Fixer and Expatriette do indeed use a 3/4-inch box template compared to the 1/2-inch template that all the other boxes use.

If you’re seeing something else, maybe you’re still pulling down the old .zip that doesn’t include the full Rook City set of accessories? You should be getting a .zip that includes card boxes, oversized hero and villain cards, etc. whereas the old .zip (which has the same filename as the new one) only had stuff I could make before I’d actually gotten the expansion.

The card boxes have been updated. The same links in the original post will now get you boxes with the following changes:

  1. I’ve fixed the problem Koga pointed out, so the tops/bottoms of the boxes now match the sides.

  2. I’ve lengthened the tuck panel so that there’s now more to tuck in when the box is closed. It was too short before and the boxes had a hard time staying closed, but now they’re much better.

  3. All of the hero boxes now have their new art from the Kickstarter hp trackers on the back of the boxes (so, different art front and back now).

  4. While I was at it, I updated Bunker’s logo, since I never really liked the one I’d given him before.

The Rook City .zip file now contains updated versions of the card boxes as well (the two Rook City hero boxes didn’t need updating).

I printed out one of the boxes and put it together to make sure I’d fixed the sizing problem, and then I went through and updated every other box in a big batch. So if you told me there was something I’d overlooked in there somewhere, I’d believe you. However, I think everything’s good to go. If you find any further problems, please let me know.

Same here, almost done putting them all together too. Mine get used at my game club so wanted something nice to put them in. Using Kodak photo paper with a Kodak printer so I don’t need to mess with any settings. and they all fit nicely into one of my big cardboxes, just printed out a logo for SotM and put that on the big box. Plan to use my Dominion: Alchemy box once more expansions come out, just cover it up with wrapping paper and put the SotM box art on the front, unless they make a better storage solution themselves.

Doesn’t the photo paper get a little tacky on the photo side? Are you worried that if two boxes touch each other, they could stick together? I haven’t printed photos in years, and maybe photo paper is much better now than I remember it being.

Doesn’t seem to be tacky at all, and I think I’d be aware if it was going to be by now considering all the folding and applying pressure involved in their construction. I bought a pack of HP Everyday Photo Paper (or something like that), and it was around $11 for 50 sheets. So all said and done, the cases cost about $6, and I still have paper for more in the future.

I’ll update this if they get tacky over time, but so far I think photo paper has been improved upon since you (and I) last used it.

UPDATE: I use and enjoy the oversized hero hp trackers that I link to in the original post, but their design has always had one flaw that irritated me – the head of the metal fastener sticks out of the back of the tracker so that when you’ve got a stack of the trackers, they get caught on each other and are hard to stack neatly. I’ve come up with a solution though which really seems to work well. In the new design, the metal fastener attaches the spinner to a third piece of paper which gets sandwiched between the front and back of the tracker. This extra layer adds some stiffness to the tracker which I like, and now, the head of the metal fastener is safely tucked away inside the tracker so that stacked trackers can slide over each other in your storage box the way Jeebus intended.

I’ve updated the file that the original post links to, so if you’re interested, you can get these new oversized hero hp trackers with the new design just by following that link. I’ve also updated the Rook City .zip file so that Expatriette, Mr. Fixer, and the Alt. Wraith trackers utilize the new design as well.

Also, the Incapacitated side of the cards now show the new hero art (still in black and white), if available.

I’ve made a couple of updates to the files. The card-sized hp trackers have had the following changes:

  1. I updated the hero trackers to include their alternative art (from the official hp trackers that came out with the Rook City Kickstarter) so that they have different art on the front and back.

  2. I improved the tracker’s dials. It was always a stupid design flaw that I didn’t space the numbers properly around the dial. When counting down the ones dial, you’d go clockwise through 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… then have to walk the dial back counter-clockwise to 9, 8, 7 etc. every time you dropped down to the next lowest tens digit. Lame. Now the dials have all ten digits repeated all the way around the dial so that you never have to reverse the direction you move it while counting. You can now count down through 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, 9, 8, 7 etc. without having to reverse the direction you’re moving the dial.

  3. My daughter has been forever irritated with the Omnitron tracker. There are only two dials, so it could only ever show 99 or zero, not 100 which is the amount of hp Omnitron has. And with Akash’bhuta coming up (200 hp), that was a design problem I’d need to tackle eventually. Rather than add a third dial, which would have made the whole thing either unusable or require that it be increased in size so that it no longer fit inside a card box, I opted to add a pull-out strip that shows “+100” to keep track of the hundreds digit. Akash’bhuta’s tracker will be able to show multiple "+100"s on her pull-out strip. That was the least terrible idea I could come up with to manage these ultra high-hp villains.

Also, I’ve removed the link to the star-design hp trackers (although I still have them in case anyone cares). I don’t think that dual-star design ended up being better than the card-sized trackers, and with the advent of 100+ hp villains, it wasn’t sustainable. So I’m not planning on making any more of those for future expansions.

Lastly, I originally posted all the Rook City accessories in their own .zip file so that someone who had previously downloaded the accessories didn’t need to re-download everything just to get the Rook City stuff. I’ll do that again when I post the Infernal Relics files, but Rook City has been out long enough that I decided to fold all of the Rook City files into the core set .zip files, meaning that the card boxes .zip file now contains card boxes for both the core set and Rook City. That’s easier for me to maintain whenever I make changes to the files.

I made a couple of updates to the accessories. These include:

  1. The location of the files has changed. The original post has the correct link. Rather than linking directly to the many individual files, I’m just going to point people at a single landing page that I can more easily keep up-to-date.

  2. Updates to the oversized hero hp trackers. I’ve increased the awesomeness of Bunker’s and Ra’s trackers by adding some camo patterns and flames, respectively. I also updated Young Legacy’s logo to actually say “Young”, and have updated the rules on Rook City Wraith’s tracker to follow a suggestion made by someone here on the forums which I thought was a good one. The tracker now states that RC Wraith can reveal the top card of the environment deck and either discard it, play it, or (the new part) put it back on top of the deck. If you don’t want to play with this new rule, which seems to make her power actually useful now, then you can use the old tracker if you’d prefer.

  3. Because I updated Young Legacy’s logo on her oversized hero card, I also updated the logo on her card-sized hp tracker to match. I also updated RC Wraith’s logo on her small hp tracker.

  4. I updated the Advanced Mode cards for the villains, though it’s such a small update it’s probably not worth re-printing them. I just removed the text I had originally put on there that showed the “issue title” for each villain. My original thinking was that as new alt versions of villains came out, you’d need to be able to tell which Advanced card went with which villain, so I added the matching issue title to do that. But I see now that the alternate versions of villains will have their own new art too, so there’s no chance you’d mistake which Advanced card went with which villain, and that issue title text is unneeded. So I removed it.

  5. I play against the Chairman and the Operative so infrequently that I had never noticed how half-assed I’d done the Operative’s character card. I updated it so that now her incapacitated side is grayed-out like all the hero’s incapacitated sides are on my oversized hero cards. Plus, I changed the color of the hp tracker spinner and fixed the interior piece that you attach it to so that it looks and works better.

I don’t sleeve my cards, so I’ve never checked, however it’s an easy enough experiment. Give me the dimensions of of a pile of 40, 25, and 15 cards when sleeved, and I can see if they fit their respective boxes. Alternately, you can download the .zip file, print out a single box on regular printer paper, cut and fold it into the right shape and hold it together with simple tape, and then plop in your sleeved cards to see how it fits.

ACCESSORY UPDATES!

I've posted updates to as many of my accessories as I can without actually having received any of the new cards.  As always, you can find them on my site www.spiffworld.com/sotm .  The updates include:

  • Card boxes:  includes updates to the hero boxes (more space to accomodate the new thicker card stock, updated art), updates to villain boxes (new art), updates to environment boxes (new art), and all the boxes for Infernal Relics heroes/villains/environments.  A separate file containing hero boxes that fit the first edition printing is available in case you don't have the Enhanced Edition.
  • Oversized hero hp trackers: core heroes have been updated to use new art (nothing new for Tempest, sadly).  There have been some cosmetic updates to the Rook City trackers as well.  There were minor EE rules changes for Legacy, Tempest, and Wraith.  No IR heroes are available yet.
  • Card-sized hp trackers: core hero/villains updated to use new art.  No IR stuff yet.
  • Oversized environments: New art for all four core environments (the older core environments are still included as alts if you prefer them).  Includes IR environments.

I haven't finished updating the Advanced rules cards for villains yet, so the oversized villains file hasn't been changed.  I'll get to that soon.

As you can see, some Infernal Relics stuff is included in this update, but not all.  I hate the idea of posting accessories and then later finding out that the text on some cards changed last minute, causing people to lose money on paper and ink.  So I'm holding off on posting anything from IR or the Kickstarter until I can be 100% sure it's correct.

So let the downloads begin.  If you start printing now, maybe you'll be finished cutting, pasting, and assembling everything before your Kickstarter shipment finally arrives in the mail. ;)

That's true. The updated Absolute Zero pic is less colorful than the old one, with him against a grey swirling background of snow. It's kind of bland, IMO. I went back and forth between the new and old pic and finally decided I should go with the one that looked better rather than using the new one just because it's new. I could make another version with the new art if people just loved the grey art best, but I don't know if that's the case.

New files have been posted.  Each file (oversized hero hp trackers, small hp trackers, card boxes) includes both an "absolute zero" and an "absolute zero - classic art" option.  That should hopefully keep everyone in the 'verse happy.

I've also updated the villain file.  No Infernal Relics stuff yet, but the oversized villain cards have been updated to include each one's difficulty rating from the EE rules book, and the core villains have been updated with their new EE rules (no new rules for Omnitron).  Also, I've shrunk The Operative's mini-boss card down so that all the pieces fit onto one page and so it takes up less room on the table.  All of the Ennead mini-bosses will use this new format, when they come out.

Hey Spiff, I finaly got around to printing off a set of the card boxes and put them together. They're great now that I have them put together but there is a problem with the Ennead, since they have more cards in their deck than your average villain they don't fit into the box. I tend to play almost exclusively at home, so my storage solution isn't particularly travel-oriented.  The few times I've had to take my kit on the road, I've transfered it to a cardboard box, to maximize durability over convenience and to minimize space.

Everything for my game is housed in a single plastic storage container I got from Target.  The cards in their boxes are arrayed on the bottom of the container standing up (so I can read the names of each box on their top ends).  This takes up about 2/3 of the container's floor space.  The remaining 1/3 is where I put the oversized hero and mini-boss cards, standing on their edges so that I can flip through them like a rolodex when I'm looking for heroes at the start of a game.

I use small colored plastic nuggets (similar to the glass beads everyone uses as markers in games, but plastic, smaller, and kind of jaggedey like a gold nugget) as markers for in-game effects.  I lay out a red one when someone gets +1 to damage, a green one when damage to them is reduced by 1, etc.  These all fit in a small plastic box about the size of a card box.  I also use a set of 10 dice to keep track of hp (villain and environment targets only since I've got the other trackers for heroes and villains), which also fit into a small plastic box about the size of a card box.

For the oversized villain cards and the oversized environment cards, each gets its own manila folder which has one edge taped shut.  This forms a kind of pocket I can slip the oversized cards into which keeps them together and protected.  Then I just lay the two manila folders on top of the card boxes.

The storage container fits onto my bookshelf with the other boardgames and works well for me.  Let me know if a pic would help make my explanation more comprehensible.

Self-critiquing my new Ennead mini-boss accessories after having used them in a game finally: they take up an awful lot of table space, seeing as how each one is the size of two normal cards side by side. However, the oversized symbol on each one makes it super easy to instantly see which mini-bosses are activated whenever a card with a particular symbol goes into the trash.  IMO, I think the bonus of the easy viewing far outweighs the size issue.

You're right of course, but when I tried to find the problem, I couldn't figure out what was wrong.  I was staring at the updated file right there on my screen.  And no matter how many times I posted the file to my site, the link never seemed to update to the new file.

But of course, it helps if the filename is spelled correctly, and "stom rules and clarifications" doesn't work as well as "sotm rules and clarifications" does...

You should be able to get to the updated version now.

A player contacted me today to ask why my oversized hero cards didn't use the actual incapacitated art on their backsides.  I told him the only reason was because I wasn't a huge fan of most of the incapacitated art and preferred to see the more heroic art I was using, even if it was grayed-out to indicate that the hero had been beaten.  He said he prefers to see the bloody and beaten pix when the hero had been knocked out of a fight, and since I have that art but just wasn't using it, I told him I'd be happy to make a set using the real flip side art.

I did, and I have to admit that most of them look better using that art (there are still some I'm not a fan of, but not many).  So I've updated the file on my site to the new one, since I'm guessing that most people would probably prefer to use the official art too.

I also tossed a Dark Visionary oversized card up on my site for anyone who wants to use that alt character early.  Since we don't yet know her incapacitated abilities, I'm just using Visionary's standard ones for now.

I was thinking this morning, since with the new expansion and a lot of people sleeving their cards, its going to be hard for them all to fit in the EE box - perhaps you could throw up some of the box art work to be printed off so people can use it on their other boxes they may be using to hold their cards? I have no idea of the legality, or if you have access to any of that art, but would be kind of cool

And thanks, too. Though I haven't personally printed out any of these, my buddy has and man they are a lot of fun to use.

Here's some box art I put together myself, I use it for those white card boxes.

Updated my doc to add:

1) while you can't be made to discard more cards than you have, if you have to discard your entire hand and you have no cards in your hand, you CAN discard a hand of zero cards.

2) revealing cards will not trigger a reshuffle, so if you want to reveal 5 cards and there are only 3 cards in the deck, you only get to reveal 3.

3) you can't usually put villain character cards under Haka's "Savage Mana" for reasons I lay out in the doc, with the exception of The Chairman.

4) even though any card with a nemesis icon is the nemesis of any other card that shares that icon, no card can be the nemesis of itself, so damage it deals that gets redirected to it is not increased.

5) clarified that Ambuscade's "Charged Attacks" does indeed damage Ambuscade and other devices, potentially setting off a chain reaction of damage.

6) I reorganized the "other" section to pull out a related group of rulings into a "decks and hands" section.

I think I'd rephrase point 1).  You CAN be "made" to discard more cards than you have.  If you have 1 card, and a card "makes" you discard 2 cards, I'm pretty sure you still discard one.  However, you cannot ELECT to discard more cards than you have (for instance) to get rid of an environment card.

You can place Omnitron under the card as well, as his deck still plays even when he's gone if the right cards are out.

I updated the oversized villain cards file to include a tougher version of Gloomweaver that my family has played with and found to be satisfyingly tough (compared to the lovable pushover Gloomweaver is now).  I added the following text to the front and back of the card:

Pinned:  Heroes with one or more Voodoo Pins in play next to them may not deal damage to any other targets than one of their Voodoo Pins.

Necrotic Resilience: Zombie Servants come into play with (H) + 2 hp, instead of 2.

I put an asterisk on each side as well to make it clear that these are a variant and not the official card's rules.  I left the version with the official card's rules in the .zip file, so people can choose which one they prefer to play with.

Sorry for the double post, but I made a couple more updates tonight:

1) There have been other people posting about cards they've made to track universal modifiers like +damage for all villains, or reduced damage dealt by all heroes, etc..  I love that idea, so I made one that's sized to fit the width of an EE token and the height of one of my oversized villain cards (6-in.) so as not to take up too much room on the table.  The card is broken into four sections (heroes, villains, environment, universal) with each section being color-coded so you can tell at a glance who each token applies to.  I added a link on my accessories page and linked a pic to this post.

2) I was embarassed to realize that while I had posted an oversized hero card for Dark Visionary, I hadn't yet posted oversized cards for the Freedom Six.  I made them a while ago and have been playing with them for weeks (they're fun).  Sorry 'bout that.  They're posted to my site now.

3) I've been using my 3D tokens for weeks have have really liked them, but I've been finding that I almost never use the purple cog token and I've been wishing I had one specifically to indicate reduced damage dealt by a target.  So I swapped out the purple cog tokens for a dark red down-arrow, and while I was at it I added a second row of nemesis skull tokens (three was never enough for an Ennead fight, and with Angry Legacy on the horizon, I figured I should add more).

As always, www.spiffworld.com/sotm

With invaluable help from UXM266, I've got my first crop of boxes for penny sleeved cards posted to my site.  Heroes only so far.  I'll post a note when villains and environments are available.

The process of converting the boxes to the new size went pretty smoothly, so I think making a third set for Dragon Shield sleeves shouldn't be too tough, once I'm done converting the full set of boxes to penny sleeves.  So stay tuned for that.

btw for anybody who is thinking of printing smaller versions on a regular deck of cards, or creating drawstring bags etc, Artscow have 25% off and free shipping using code 25OFFTHINGS (valid until 6th Dec.) So a deck of 54 cards, printed front and back, is $8.25 delivered anywhere in the world. There is also 10OFFORDERS valid till the 4th for a flat $10 off, but with the shipping a 54 deck comes to $9.98 so it's not as good overall. I have previously made playmats for Arkham Horror and RftG on mousemats, I'm thinking there might be something similar that could be done for Sentinels?

An update to the Rules and Clarifications PDF:

1) noted that incapacitated heroes do have turns which can be skipped, they do have a usual start-of-turn and end-of-turn phase, but do not have power/play/draw phases and so can't choose to skip those.

2) reiterated that Performs and Accompanies (Argent Adept) are not powers and so can be activated multiple times during a turn if you can manage it.  It's in the IR rule book but is easy to miss.

3) noted that incapacitated heroes cannot do a discard action because they have nothing to discard (which is different from having a hand with zero cards in it)

4) first damage dealt = the very first damage dealt, so when Fanatic deals 1 melee and 1 radiant damage, effects which trigger on the first damage dealt will only trigger off of the melee damage, not the radiant damage.

5) Rook City errata: all references to "the villain character card" should be read to refer to "the villain character card with the most hp"

I've got the hero-sized boxes posted, and have the villains and environments ready to go.  We're just waiting to confirm that the Ennead will fit into the villain box as it is now before I post the full set to my site.

I've been working with another forumgoer on boxes that fit premium sleeves.  We're still testing out various sizes, and once we've settled on that, I can get to work putting out the boxes.

Finally, Christopher says that Adam is still putting the final touches on some of the art before I can get my hands on it, so things like the oversized Greatest Legacy and Eternal Haka are still pending.

question about your randomizer… does it treat each promo hero as it’s own entity, or does it select say, randomly legacy then random pick a promo legacy so that heroes with promos don’t come up more often?

SP
Spiff
2012-12-10 19:32 UTC

It's been a while since I made it so I may be remembering it incorrectly, but I'm pretty sure I built it so that it selects between the base cards, then checks to see if there is an alt for the one that was chosen and then randomly decides whether to use the base one or the alt.  That way if you've got 5 Wraith alts, you won't get Wraith more often than any other hero.

However, I can't remember at the moment how I determine between base and alt cards, so I should double-check that that's the case.  That's how I want it to work.

SP
Spiff

I checked on the Randomizer code, and it is not currently working as intended.  Looks like I built it to only be able to choose between two versions of a card at a time, something that's been broken by Wraith and now Legacy (I shouldn't have built it to be so restrictive, but it seemed reasonable at the time).  Also, the way I have it determining which is the base card and which is the alt card used a manual process that I haven't kept updated over time.

I won't have time to sit down and fix it until the weekend.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Going over the Enhanced Edition card inserts, there are a few typos I've noticed with the Environment cards.

  1. Volcanic Eruption - Spelled as Volcanic Erruption
  2. V.E. Flavor text, line 2 start "the volacno"
  3. While not a typo per se (and I don't know if it changed in EE or not), line 3 of V.E.'s flavor text should read "burning across the island as the lava", whereas it currently reads "burning across the island and lava"
  4. Primordial Plant Life Flavor text, line 1 reads as "The clinging vines trapped tighter and", but (and again, don't know if changed in EE) should probably be "The clinging vines wrapped tighter and"
  5. Pterodactyl Thief Flavor text, line 1 has "With a screch"

I know I'm probably being a stickler with most of these, since it's flavor text (aside from Volcanic Eruption), but chances are you'd want to know and fix that.

Also, if I may ask, would it be possible to re-do the oversized villain cards, but with the actual nemesis icons? There's quite a few redone heroes with more coming, and while it's nice to have the actual art of each hero the villain has as a nemesis, it just seems like there'd end up with a bit of clutter of the card. Iron Legacy comes to mind specifically when thinking about this, since you'd have to have 13(!) faces on there, as opposed to the 6 icons.

SP
Spiff

1) The EE card inserts are just me copy/pasting the information that >G made public when the EE came out.  I can't edit the images themselves, so that's not something I can change.

2) I've thought about reconsidering the decision (which seemed a good one at the time) to use the hero's faces instead of their icons, because of the problem you say -- as we get more alt heroes, the way I made my oversized villain cards could make things less clear, not more. It's still a toss-up for me, however.  I don't prefer using the icons because then you have to mentally translate the icon in your head into which hero it represents (or worse, look it up), while with a face you can immediately understand who it is.  It's really only an issue with Legacy, since his alts are different people, as opposed to everyone else whose alts are just different versions of the same people.  That means that with Spite, I can use the base Wraith's face and not have to put Rook City Wraith or F6 Wraith on there too.  But I've put both Daddy and Baby Legacy on Baron Blade's oversized card, and now I guess I'd have to put Grandpa Legacy's face too?  I agree it's not elegant.

At this point, I don't think I'll be changing them to use the icons instead of faces, because of the preference against it I mentioned above.  Iron Legacy isn't his own nemesis, so I won't have to put a row of Legacy faces on there anyway.  It'll still just be Baron Blade that I'll have to figure out what to do with.

UPDATE: oops, I just remembered that F6 Bunker is a different person than regular Bunker, so I'll have to figure out what to do about that now too. :(

I've gotten my hands on some of the new art, so I've posted a few updates.  The file on my site that used to include oversized hp trackers for just Dark Visionary and the Freedom Six now also includes Eternal Haka (same deal as the others - the front of the card has new art and rules, back of the card is Haka's old art and rules, which I'll update once the promo cards are actually available).  I've also updated the oversized villain cards for Omnitron, Cosmic Omnitron, and Plague Rat so they now show the faces of their nemeses, replacing the "?" they used to have.

I still don't have Greatest Legacy's art, but when I get it, I'll post an oversized promo card for that as well.

Updates to my files today:

1) I finally got ahold of Greatest Legacy art, so now he's got an oversized hero card on my site along with the Freedom Six, Eternal Haka, and Dark Visionary promos.

2) Christopher says he's fine with with my posting these promo cards before the actual cards are available as long as people don't get confused by them (remember, since the actual cards aren't available yet, I'm using the core hero's art/rules on the backs for now, and will update them with the actual stuff when it's available).  So to avoid any confusion, I've added a watermark of sorts on each making it clear that the art/rules on the back aren't actually the art/rules for that promo.

3) When I first started making these accessories, I didn't have the actual font used by the SotM cards so I used a generic comic sans font.  Each new round of accessories I've made has used one of the older ones as a template, so even though I've actually got the real font now, they all use that lame font.  I finally decided that I've had enough of that, so today I went back through every one of my oversized hero and villain cards and updated the fonts to use the one the real cards use.  They look much better now, but even I won't be re-printing every one of them immediately (there are quite a few of them).  I'll probably print a couple every now and then until I've updated everything.

4) I've removed the quarter-sized hp trackers from my site.  I never particularly loved them, and I know of no one who does.  I've recently tried to make an improved version of them, and even the improved version isn't significantly better than just using dice (primary problem: you can change a dice with one hand but manipulating any kind of a spinner takes both hands).  So, since they suck, they are now gone.

5) Finally, just a note to say that I'm making pretty good progress on the new batch of accessories for Shattered Timeline and expect to have everything ready by March if it turns out that we get it that early (fingers crossed).  I'll post the new card boxes (both unsleeved and penny sleeved versions) as soon as they're ready so people can start printing and assembling them early.  The other stuff will be posted when the expansion has shipping.

Spiff, I would like to make a request.

For us obsessive, neurotic completionists, would you be willing to make custom dividers, in the same style as the official >G-issued ones, for the promo versions of each hero?

I'm guessing that you use your custom tuckboxes for your SotM decks, but I (and others, I'm sure) like and use the pretty pretty dividers >G provides.  I'm considerings ordering duplicates of the decks for Legacy and Bunker, since their promos represent completely different people.  Given the "time as a ball of yarn" plot device of the Shattered Timelines story arc, having different versions of each hero fighting side by side is very plausible and interesting, and I really want to have a "Family Reunion" battle of Finest Legacy, Newest Legacy, and Greatest Legacy versus Iron Legacy.

I imagine you're busy with developing your own ideas, but you ever have some downtime, please consider this.

For anyone who wants to get printing and assembling early, I've updated my site with a link to a .zip file containing all the card boxes for the Shattered Timelines expansion, including the promo decks.  It contains just the no-sleeve-cards size right now, but I should be able to get the penny-sleeve-size done and posted soon.

I've got the rest of the accessories ready to go, though I won't be posting those until I get my hands on my ST shipment so I can verify the info I've got on them matches what's on the actual cards.

Once I've verified the info, my plan is to post a single .zip file that contains all the different accessories for everything in Shattered Timelines so that you don't have to re-download all the other stuff to get at the new stuff.  At some point in the future, I'll merge the ST stuff in with the rest of the normal .zip files.

Small update to the Shattered Timelines card boxes on my site - once I'd printed them all out and put them together, I decided I didn't like the way the Scholar's box looked (his picture wasn't balanced well on the front of the box).  So I adjusted his box so he's more centered.  I also decided that the logos on the tops of the boxes would look better if they were more centered, so I adjusted those too.

If you've already printed the boxes, these changes are not that big of a deal.  I'll probably re-print the Scholar's box but leave the others as they were.  But since it wasn't perfect, I figured I should make the changes for anyone who comes along later.

Posted an update to my Rules and Clarifications doc:

1) The Toxic Sludge clarification (it's not that each player discards 1 card so one environment card total may be destroyed, it's that each player may discard 1 card, and anyone who does may destroy one environment card).

2) Added a clarification about how when a card says "if you take X damage, you deal X damage to another target", it's not the same thing as redirecting damage.

3) Citizen Dawn clarification (she is a Citizen, and so should be counted when you're determining if she should flip from her back side, but since she's not a card that can be revealed from the deck when you're initially laying out Citizens during setup, she won't count there).

4) I included a few links where I had them, to back up the claims made in the doc.  Going forward, I'm going to try to include those whenever I can.

I got to use the counters Mk 2 last night and I prefer them to the original quarter counters.  They worked well enough that one of our first time players, a youngish person, decided that handling all the villians targets counters were her job.

Thanks so much for putting new  counters out there.  I prefer them to any method of HP tracking I've tried for tracking small targets.

Big change to my site today.  Since I now have a guest on spiffworld.com/sotm (see below), I figured I should clean the place up a bit.  So I completely changed the look/feel of the site to match the main Spiffworld site I have for my videos.  The print & play accessories are on their own page now, and there's a new page where you can find accessories made by people other than me.

The first addition to the non-Spiff page are the great accessories made by our fellow forum-goer jagarciao.  Look there to get his hp tracker mat, his alt hero divider cards, and the hero icon .png files he made.  If there are other accessories around the Internets that people find indispensible, l'd be happy to link to them as well.

I still don't have my ST cards, so I haven't posted the ST updates yet, but that shouldn't be too long now, so expect another announcement soon.

It's come to my understanding that not everyone knows that I have an alternate oversized card for Mr. Fixer (Stance Shifting Master) on my site.  It was (and still is) part of the general oversized hero hp tracker .zip file, but I've pulled it out into its own entry on the printable accessories page now to increase its discoverability.

I play with it every time I play Fixer, and it really makes him more fun to play.  It encourages you to play new styles and tools to get a bonus to damage.  The constant shift between styles and tools throughout the game feels like exactly the kind of thing a Zen martial arts mechanic master would do to keep his enemies off balance.

All it does is boost his damage by 1 if you've played a Style or Tool card that turn. If you prefer to use additional house rules about returning cards to your hand, you can, of course, play however you like, but there's nothing about that on the card.

Jagarciao has done it again, with a new set of card dividers oriented vertically rather than horizontally, perfect if you store your cards on their ends instead of their sides.  The dividers use the official art, have icons to show which expansion they're from, and even have numbers on them to show the complexity or difficulty of the hero or villain.  You can find these dividers on the "non-spiff" page of my site.

I just wanted to say that I put together all of the oversized Hero HP trackers, as well as 30 of the Mk 2 quarter-sized trackers, and I'm absolutely loving them.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought of this, but I used a glue stick in addition to tape, on the oversized HP trackers, to help hold them all together firmly.  For the little guys, I only needed a small bit of tape.

Thanks for all your hard work, Spiff!

Nice.  For the oversized trackers, I use tape to keep the inside piece/spinner in place, then just put 8 pieces of tape around the outside to secure the front to the back.  Using a gluestick would probably help keep them looking nicer since you wouldn't have to see the tape.

Clarification doc has been updated:

  • added clarification about how a target can enter/exit play even if the card itself doesn't.
  • added a note that Legacy will usually (though not always) not benefit from his own "Galvanize" power since it will usually be activated during his Power phase (after any damaging one-shots) and will de-activate at his start-of-turn phase (before he gets a chance to play cards or use powers).
  • notes that hero cards under La Capitan or Savage Mana go away when the hero in question is incapacitated.

I also made some minor fixes to the Card List (added hp totals to cards where I'd forgotten to do that previously.  The list of cards itself is still the same).

Last night, we played a game of SotM with a truly epic table bump, sending the dice we were using to track hp of each of Citizen Dawn's minions flying.  This morning, I vowed to start using the tiny hp trackers I have on my site instead of dice, but I still don't love them enough to use them.  They're too complicated.

So I iterated again and came up with a third version of them that I think gets it right.  They're easy to assemble, simple to use, and while you do still need to use both hands to hold it while adjusting the spinner, I think the advantages are strong enough that I'm finally going to start using them instead of dice to track minion hp.

The new file is on my site if you're interested in checking it out.

Updates to my site tonight:

  • I've rolled the Shattered Timelines accessories in with all the others accessories, so now you'll get them along with each type of accessory rather than in a .zip of just ST stuff.
  • I've taken all non-standard oversized character cards out of the regular .zip files and now have a "custom characters" section in which you can find anything I've made changes to which make them different from the approved versions.  Currently in that section are:

  • Akash'bhuta: Nature's Fury. Akash'bhuta starts with a few Primeval Limbs in play at the start of the game, which makes the game a bit more action-packed from the get-go.
  • Ambuscade: Trapmaster. Changes the way trap cards work (they trigger immediately when revealed rather than being buried back in the deck) and puts traps into play face-down at the start of the game, waiting to be revealed when Devices are destroyed. Changes Ambuscade from a faceroll to a fun challenge.
  • Gloomweaver: Extra Gloom. Increases the challenge of Gloomweaver quite a bit by making zombies much tougher and making it so that heroes who are pinned can't deal damage to anything but their pin until it's been destroyed. This version feels more like a "3" difficulty villain than his normal version does.
  • Mr. Fixer: Stance-Shifting Master. Changes Fixer's base power so that if a stance or tool was played that turn, his Strike ability does one extra damage. This encourages the player to continually swap out stances and tools like a good martial arts mechanic would, but doesn't penalize you if you want to keep the stance/tool you have in play.
  • Wraith: Rook City Detective. This changes Rook City Wraith's base power by just a bit, allowing Wraith to not only discard or play a revealed environment card, put also put it back on top of the deck if you want. This increases the amount of deck control the power provides to make it feel more right to me.

Just purchased the Enhanced Edition last week and now my gaming group and I are hooked!  Your print and play accessories look fantastic and based on this forum, you've really done a lot to support this game.  First, thanks for taking time out to make these available for fans of the game.  Second, unfortunately, when I go to the page, the only links that are "live" to me are the Universal Effects Tracker and everything below that.  Every link above that point does not work for me.  Anyway, I definitely appreciate the links I can use and my gaming group and I thank you!

So, I decided to see what everyone was talking about with the site being messed up, and, while using Internet Explorer, I didn't see anything at all messed up or out of place or broken with the website.  Then I noticed people mentioning Internet Explorer 9, while I was using Internet Explorer 10. I hit the "Compatibility View" button, then the website dramatically changed and the first paragraph was horribly broken (the rest was just fine, though in a much different layout).  So, definately there is no need to make the site Internet Explorer compatible, as Microsoft is already doing that (though at a slower rate as it releases at major release points, as opposed to the nearly daily updates that other browsers tend to have).

On a different topic regarding my site, I had thought last month that I was going to start regularly going over my bandwidth limits for my webhost, which would mean that I'd have to start paying more for making my accessories available to the netterwebs.  I thought that my stuff was just that popular.  However, after looking into it, it turns out that 90% of that bandwidth was coming from spambots who were posting thousands of posts on a blog I hadn't touched since 2010.  I deleted all traces of the blog from my site and now my bandwidth is back to normal, sustainable levels.  Turns out, my stuff isn't as popular as I thought, which is a good thing. :)

The ONLY complaint I have about this game is that table real estate by the end of games gets a little chaotic.   I love the oversized villain cards, but it exacerbates the problem.

Does anyone know  something that can be used for card stands?  I'm thinking something along the lines of Scrabble tile holders.  Something we can stick on the far edge of the table and prop the card upright in.  I don't actually own a copy of Scrabble, so I can't test out those specifically, but I'm guessing they won't work because I don't think they have a proper groove and probably not enough weight.

There are probably some desk accessories at Office Depot or Staples that are bottom-heavy enough and have something to hold notes or paper. Or maybe even countertop business card or flyer holders.  A bit more pricey and bulky than I'd like, but I think anyone in this thread is all about going the deluxe route for presenting and playing this game!

I just had another idea.  I'm going to try to convert a couple of cardboard trading card boxes (the ones that hold a thousand cards) into something that looks exactly like a mini comic book longbox.

Memoir 44 has stands that click together that hold the cards upright. It is not worth buying the game just for the stands (unless you want it anyways), but if someone in your group has it, just ask him to bring the stands.

Yeah, those are exactly what I'm talking about.  However it doesn't look like DoW or anyone sells them standalone (that's the first time I've ever typed that word and it literally meant stand alone).

I've been playing around with the office supplies I have lying around, and binder clips seem to work pretty well in a ghetto pinch.  Two ways.  One is to clamp the clip on the extreme edge of the bottom of the card and fold out the 'handles' to act as a kind of base.  I'm using the super-mini binder clips and they aren't leaving any indentations on the sides of the cards, but I also have them in sleeves so indentations should never be a problem.  An alternate way is to just place the card in between the clip and the folded back handle (I'll post pics later).  It's a bit more of an extreme angle, but still takes up a lot less room than laying them flat.

I'm having a hard time envisioning what you want to do. You want the card (which card?) to stand up so only you can see its face and everyone else can only see its back?

No.  Like for the villain cards (especially oversized cards) or when a table setup makes it easier to place all hero cards to the edges of the table (like when each player is playing more than one hero).  Prop up the cards where everyone can see them easily.  It doesn't save THAT much space, but when the table is cramped, it's nice to have a villain card propped up with the deck/tokens in front of it.  Plus it makes for a more dramatic presentation of the villain.    I'll put together a sample layout and snap a few photos of it (but not tonight).

I follow you. Have you actually tried scrabble stands? You mentioned them and it seems like they might work. In fact you could probably play with the environment deck that way. We never seem to have more than a few environment cards out at one time. Except in the Tomb of Anubis.

Exactly.  Propping up everything with HP will let them stand out from effects-only cards and give us a bit more room.  I don't have a scrabble game, but I wonder if I don't put a groove in there if the cards will just slide forward or tip over backwards.  I'll go check my local thrift stores tomorrow to see if there happen to be any Scrabble games available.  Plus Hobby Lobby seems likely to have SOMEthing that accomplishes the same goal.

You could make the same folds on a piece of paper that's the same width as a single card, or cut up a full-sized one once it's folded.

A simpler one with a single pleat is also a possibility - if it's of interest to anyone, I can have a go at figuring that out and post it here?

... it confuses my poor tired brain that the Start symbol is red and the End symbol is green, the opposite of the official tokens (and my own homemade ones).

How much trauma would it be to switch the colours round on the villain cards?

I'm interested in how you came to the decision to use red for start and green for end - to me green means go and red means stop, so the "official" colours feel much more natural to me.

I can't say it was a well-thought out process.  In fact, had I considered the choice better, I would never have used those colors at all since they're the worst possible choices for colorblind people.  Maybe blue and yellow (or something else) would be even better.  But if I stick with red and green, you're right that green for start and red for stop makes more sense.

However, you're the first person to express dissatisfaction with the color choice, so I don't know if that means that everyone else agrees with you but never bothered to say anything, or if it means that everyone else likes it the way it is and they'd become irate if I changed things.  I'm not adverse to changing things, but I have a bias towards inaction unless I'm sure the change is both necessary and helpful.

Well there are three main types of colourblindness and for one of them distinguishing between yellow and blue is difficult so it's a tricky one. But since you have the SV and EV letters that means everyone can distinguish the two, even if the colours aren't the most colourblind-friendly.

It's quite likely that I'm being more picky than the average person would be - I'm an artist and so spend half my life obsessing about the exact colour I want to use and how I'm going to create it, so it's something I can't help but see.

And not that I'm trying to be critical, you understand, it's just that I love those cards but I know if I print them the "wrongness" will drive me crazy. Feel free to tell me to get over it, especially if everyone else is happy. ;)

What are we actually proposing here?  Just swapping the red and green, or accepting that red and green aren't good choices and we need to use something else entirely?  I imagine you'd say we just need to swap the red and green because the fact that they don't match the tokens is your main issue, but that doesn't feel like a full solution perhaps.

BTW, I never noticed the discrepancy between the official tokens and my icons because I use my 3D pyramid tokens rather than those tokens, and the pyramid colors match the villain icon colors perfectly.  That's my preferred solution of course - everyone should use the 3D tokens instead!

If you were to swap red and green round but also wanted to make it colour-blind friendly, you could always make it white letters in a red box and black letters in a green box (or red letters in a white box and green letters in a black box) or vice versa.

For me there are two issues: matching my existing tokens, and the whole red=stop psychology thing. It's why I chose to make stop/start tokens myself rather than using your 3D tokens, to be honest, as much as I like the look of them otherwise.

I just ran a small clipping of Dawn's card through a colourblindness simulator.

As you can see, the red and green are actually distinguishable for two of the three main types of colourblindness, and with a little bit of extra contrast (e.g. by darkening the red a bit) or outlining the coloured text in, say, black for one colour and white for the other, it'd be fine for the third type too.

Not that it's strictly necessary for colourblindfriendliness since the text is different, but we're talking perfect world here, right?

As to the swapping of colours, maybe you could have two versions available - the existing one that matches your 3D tokens, and a swapped one that matches the official tokens. Of course it would be completely unreasonable for me to ask you to use up your precious time, effort and bandwidth for my pickiness…

I think I might have a go at editing them myself when I get time.

I'm interested in the design being correct too, so while it will be a chunk of work, the OCD program manager in me doesn't mind that kind of thing.  I'll take a look at it this weekend and see what I can do.

I'm guessing that what I'll end up with will be (a) swapping red and green but probably not changing the hue of either, (b) looking for a different shape to enclose one of the two icons so that, for example, the "SV" was inside a box but the "EV" was inside a circle, and (c) swapping the colors of the matching "S" and "E" 3D pyramid tokens so that everything is in alignment.  If I can do that, I think this will address the main concerns.  People who have been using the accessories as they are (like me) will have to decide if these changes are a big enough deal to require reprinting the accessories.

If I can't find a second enclosing shape for the "EV" that I like, I'll just stick with the box.  It's not like you can't tell the two apart as they are (one has an "S" and one has an "E" after all), so that's a priority-2 concern, I think.

I've looked into things, and it looks like the 100% solution I wanted will be a bigger pain in the butt than I anticipated.  Here are the issues and my proposed plan:

1) My icons aren't really icons.  In the case of the "SV" and "EV" icons, they're just the letters "SV" or "EV" alongside the letter "c" using the Webdings font ("c" displays as a hollow box), with the kerning between the two parts adjusted so that they overlap, making it look like it's a single icon of letters inside a box.  This works well because it allows me to have the "icon" be in-line with the rest of the text, so that as I adjust the text, the "icon" adjusts along with everything else.  If I used an image for the icon instead, every time I adjusted the text a little, I'd have to manually change things so the text flowed properly around the image, which would be a lot of extra work.

2) Why is this a problem?  Because if you click that link for the Webdings font, you'll see that for jeebus-only-knows-why reason, there is a hollow-box webding but not a hollow-circle webding, and certainly no hollow-hexagon.  It's the same for the Symbols font and every other font that I have that uses symbols.  That means unless I want to do a TON of extra work (spoiler: I don't), we're stuck with using the same box shape for "start" and "end".  No stop signs for "stop" and no circles for "start".

3) There are other symbols in that Webdings chart that I could use instead of the hollow-box, and I played around with a couple.  The one that interested me the most was the jaggy speech bubble symbol that maps to the "}" key (very comixy).  However, every one I tried, most especially the jaggy speech bubble, looked too cartoony in the end, and I decided I preferred the simplicity of the box.

So the upshot is what you see in the attached image.  All I'm planning on doing is swapping the colors, making "start" green and "end" red.  Please think that over, and if that won't be enough to make you want to use the villain cards, then there's no point in me even putting in that much effort, and I'll just leave things as they are now.

I have recently gotten involved with this game and then found your website. I must say Spiff great job on all the accessories. I absolutely love them all. I would be more then happy with the change of [SV] and [EV] colors changing. That is about the only thing i wanted changed. I must say that your over sized Ennead are the best things ever. the fact that you can easily read what each one does and what symbols they react to is awesome. Your mat for global effects is another item that just screams must have.

so all in all i must say thanks again.

I also (just now) added a whole new accessory.  Our gaming group has found that even with decks we're familiar with, when we play a card that lets you search your deck for a certain type of card, there's often a lull in the action as the player picks through every card in the deck looking at all of their choices. A better solution would be to have a quick-reference sheet listing the possible options for each of the search cards so that you could choose the card you wanted before you even picked up the deck to find it.  For example, there's a sheet listing of all of Omnitron-X's platings and components, with each card's text displayed, for when you play his "Technological Advancement" card.  This set of sheets has 4" x 5" sections, one for each search card, which you cut out and keep handy whenever you need to find that perfect card.  Available now on the "printable" page on my site.

Full disclosure: a fellow on BGG posted a version of this information a few weeks ago, and I liked the idea enough that I thought I'd take a shot at prettying it up with some art and standard page sizes and such.  I tried finding the post again so I could give him credit by name, but I can't find it.  In any case, I think it's a great idea, and was not originally mine.

Also, technically Ra has a search card, but it only lets him find his Staff of Ra, so I didn't bother with that one.

The user's name is Eeeville.

Those search sheets look better than the plain ones Eeville put up and the inclusion of the Argent's instrument activations is just what I need, I'm always forgetting what I need from his deck.

However, you've made the same mistake Eeeville did, and as I pointed it out to him I feel I should be the one to point it out to you too, Unity can also get Equipment cards with Flash Forge (I feel like I'm simultaneously existing in multiple 'verses!)

It's meant to be an aid, not a replacement right? I think I'd have just summaries for the cards rather than the whole text.

Bee Bot (x3) 1 HP

Destroys Ongoing/Environments when destroyed

Raptor Bot (x3) 2 HP

Deal damage at the end of your turn

Platform Bot (x3) 2 HP

Deal damage at the end of your turn

Stealth Bot (x1) 5 HP

Redirects and reduces damage

Swift Bot (x1) 6 HP

Play 2 cards and Draw 2 card each turn

Cryo Bot (x1) 7 HP

Deals damage when attacked

Champion Bot (x1) 8 HP

increase damage you and your bots deal

Turret Bot (x1) 9 HP

Do damage at the start of your turn

Construction Pylon (x3)

Play 2 Bots

Modular Workbench(x3)

Discard a card, play a Bot

Scrap Metal (x2)

Remove a Bot at the end of your turn, play a Bot at the start of your turn

Supply Crate (x3)

Draw a card, draw 2 cards at the start of your turn

Volitile Parts (x2)

Deal damage when a Bot is destroyed

One sentence per card reduces the amount of space without losing anything vital to the search cards. (plus I personally feel real iffy about putting out the cards word for word)

I've updated the FAQ with the rulings Ronway recently reported.  I also updated the penny-sleeve card boxes file.  A long-suffering SotM fan informed me that I'd made a mistake with the Iron Legacy, Kismet, and La Capitan penny-sleeve boxes.  They were accidentally made using the 3/4-inch template (hero sized) rather than the 5/8-inch template (villain sized), which resulted in lots of extra room in those boxes.  I've updated them to use the proper template.  All the other villain boxes are (as far as I know) correctly sized.

Also, I've made a couple of updates to the FAQ.  I've been dribbling in updates over the past couple of weeks, so I don't actually remember all of what's been updated.  The most major things are adding a bit about how the damage boost from Explosive Wagon is still in effect when Explosive Wagon itself deals damage when it's destroyed, and trying (I hope correctly) to describe why infinitely redirecting damage to stack beneficial effects along the way won't actually work.

Any chance of doing a supplemental AA table that summarizes which songs are melodies, harmonies, rhythms?

EN
Envisioner
2013-11-10 04:52 UTC
#218

Here's how I memorize them:

  • Harmonies have the most powerful Perform effects - "you or anyone else may play a card", "you or anyone else may use a power", and "blow up any non-character card at the cost of an Instrument" (the latter is not necessarily always useful, but "powerful" certainly fits, given that it can one-shot things up to and including Gloomweaver's 25-HP relics).  Not coincidentally, they are the hardest to Perform - only two of the six Instruments (both of them stringed, if that makes it easier to remember) can activate one of these effects plus an Accompany…of these, only the Harp can Accompany the same card it Performs, which can be important on turn 2 or if you have poor luck acquiring Songs.

  • Melodies have only Perform effects, not Accompanies.  Three Instruments can Perform a Melody, one of them being able to do two at once, and another being able to Accompany a Rhythm first (otherwise, Accompanies always happen second).  Keep in mind that songs are not Limited, so using Drake's Pipes to play two Rhapsodies of Vigor or two Scherzos of Frost and Flame can be highly impressive under the right circumstances (it's a rare day when AA ends up being the party's primary damage dealer, but it can happen).

  • Rhythms can loosely be categorized as the weakest set of songs, with one exception - the single best Accompany under average circumstances belongs to Inventive Preparation.  With an ideal chain setup, you may be able to get several instances of this Accompany, letting your allies play a blitz of extra cards…however, outside of Cloud Cuckooland, Rhythms are generally less likely to have a powerful, instant effect than the other songs (Rhapsody of Vigor is also kind of weak, but it can definitely save your bacon in some games, and we've already mentioned Cedistic Dissonant's extreme-if-highly-situational potency).  Instead, they tend to eke out incremental advantages over time.  If you have Xu's Bell in your hand, you probably want to play a Rhythm, as it's the only Instrument which can Perform a Rhythm (you can always Vocalize them of course, but then that's your whole Power phase, unless you chain into it with one of the two best Harmonies).  Uniquely, the Bell also gives you the ability to Accompany any card which has an Accompany text…it's among no less than four three Instruments which offer access to Rhythm Accompanies, so handing out extra card draws, card plays, and bits of sonic damage is fairly easy to do once or even several times during your turn, if you have a Rhythm and any Instrument other than the Pipes or Harp (you can regard these all as percussion instruments, if you imagine that AA occasionally thumps the Lyra on the side like a drum, instead of or in addition to strumming the strings to Harmonize).

Now, what AA could do if he had a piano, we can only speculate…

Maybe it's a very tiny piano ;).

If you play the Adept enough, you should hopefully come to learn his deck like everyone else's - it took me a while too. There are three different songs of each type, and two copies of each song.

The Harmonies are…

Inspiring Supertonic (One hero use a power now/Adept regains 2hp)

Alacritous Subdominant (One hero play a card now/Adept use a power now then destroy this card)

Cedistic Dissonant (Destroy an instrument then destroy any non-character card in play/Adept discard two then draw three)

The Melodies are…

Rhapsody of Vigour (Up to five targets get +1hp)

Sarabande of Destruction (Destroy an ongoing or environment card)

Scherzo of Frost and Flame (Deal one target one fire damage, then deal one target one cold damage…or the other way around, I forget)

The Rhythms are…

Counterpoint Bulwark (Up to two targets gain +1 soak/One player draw a card now)

Syncopated Onslaught (Up to two targets gain +1 damage dealt/Deal one target one sonic damage)

Inventive Preparation (Each player may look at their top card, then either replace or discard it/One player who isn't the Adept play a card now)

Phew, I'm glad I was able to remember them all :). And of course, bear in mind that as mentioned above, songs are not Limited. Also, their effects aren't powers (the instruments are), so you can use a song's effect twice in a turn if you want, for example using the Harp to activate Inspiring Supertonic to let you use the Lyra to activate Inspiring Supertonic again to let you use another instrument (my usual combo once I get those cards out). The only time having two copies of the csame song out is necessary is when using the Pipes, since you can only activate two different cards with them and not the same one twice - if you have two copies of Sarabande out, you can activate both and destroy two things as a result, but if you only had one you couldn't activate it twice because the Pipes specify two different Melody cards. If one of those cards happens to look exactly the same as the other one, that's fine :).

I don't yet have art for any of the new stuff, but once I get it I'll post up oversized versions of the Dark Watch heroes to my site, using their original version's backsides.  That way we can play with them before the stuff on the backs has been made public.  We'll just have to wait to use the alt villains though, since they're not much use without their rules.

I've posted a new file to my site.  It's the oversized cards for the promos we got in Dec.: the Dark Watch crew, Skinwalker Gloomweaver, and Agent of Gloom Spite.  I'm keeping the in a separate .zip file for now to make them easy to get, but once Vengeance comes out I'll just roll them in with all the other new stuff.

One of the things that's got me excited about these new files is the new icons on the villain oversized cards.  I found a website which allows you to create a custom font just by downloading their template, putting whatever you want in the spaces on the template, and uploading it back to their site.  It's frickin' magic, and it's allowed me to now use the "H" icon as I would any other letter as long as I've set it to be that font.  Even better, I was able to add the "SV" and "EV" icons to that font, and in the process, spruce them up.  If you'll recall, we've had a discussion about how in a perfect world, those icons would not only be different colors but different shapes too.  Well now they are, and I think they look great.  Because Skinwalker Gloomweaver has a "start of each hero turn" effect, I even added "SH" icons to the mix.  Fun!

I plan on going back through all of my oversized villain cards (which is quite a pile) and swapping in the new icons.  I'll post here when that project is done and the new stuff is ready to download, although I don't expect too many people will want to re-print all of the villain cards just for the new icons.  Even I'm not planning on doing that (and I'm crazy).

Right, Spite's got that start-of-hero-turn effect.

I've attached the font (.zipped because it won't let me attach a .ttf file).  There are only a couple of letters which are active in the font:

  • uppercase H = "H" icon
  • uppercase S = "SV" icon
  • uppercase E = "EV" icon
  • lowercase s = "SH" icon
  • lowercase e = "EH" icon
  • 9 = background for rectangular end-of-turn icons
  • 0 = background for circular start-of-turn icons

Most of that should be self-explanatory, but the backgrounds work like this in Photoshop:

For an end-of-villain-turn icon, you'll type "9", then you type "E".  You'll now have a black rectangle sitting next to the "EV" icon, which is not yet what you want.  You highlight the black rectangle and change its color (red, for example), then insert the cursor between the rectangle and the "EV" and change the kerning between the two so that the "EV" moves to the left, on top of the background (I used -800 kerning).  Now what you have is an "EV" with a red background which you can copy/paste to use wherever you want, and which will stay inline with the rest of your text so you don't have to reposition images every time you move things around.  Magic!

I've posted the updated villain card files, and in the process decided that the way I organize my files needed to be updated as well.  Since the beginnning, I've kept file types grouped together into .zip files (all the oversized villain cards in one .zip file, all the card boxes in another, etc.).  But that means that someone who buys just a single set has to download everything I've got even though they won't use the items for expansions they don't own.  That's not great.

Now, each expansion has its own .zip file, and in that zip file are all the file types.  So, when you download the Shattered Timelines file, you'll get all the boxes, oversized cards, trackers, etc. for Shattered Timelines content and not for other stuff you don't care about.  Since all the file types are included, you'll be downloading card boxes even if all you wanted was villain cards, but I can't see a way around that.

Promos and alt cards (which have grown surprisingly bountiful over the years) have their own .zip file to keep them separate from the expansions themselves.  So forget what I said a few posts back about the Dark Watch and villain promos being in their own .zip file for now. Since promos and alts have their own home now, I've just put the new stuff in there.

Last update in today's marathon session -- two things:

1) I've reformatted the FAQ so that the important stuff about timing of effects, when to reshuffle decks, damage, etc., which used to be at the end of the doc, is now at the beginning.  It was always kind of dumb that a reader could get halfway through the doc, and if they stopped reading, they would have never gotten to some of the most important info.  That has now been rectified.

2) I've removed the doc with the bios of all the characters from my site.  That thing was always just a duplicate of the info available on the SotM Multiverse page, and as I contemplated updating the doc for Vengeance I realized that it was too much of a pain.  Sorry if you loved that doc, but it's gone now.

I admit, I'm not in a hurry to add a new box template to the lineup, especially one that may not be useful to the majority of people (at least, that's my assumption).  It is just a single box though, so I won't say no, but I'm not saying yes.  I'm just about to start putting together the large pile of Vegeance accessories, so my workload will be full for a while, which probably reduces the chances of it happening soon, at least.

If I were to make a box for oversized villain cards, would I also need to make one for people who sleeve their cards?  If so, what size would that be?

I think you're missing the following: The fifth Vengeance villain and the promo Dark Watch villains: Spite and Gloomweaver. Also, the promo villains are two cards each. Total should be 1779.

EE - 578 (41x10 + 27x4 + 15x4 = 410 + 108 + 60)

RC - 222 (41x2 + 27x4 + 2, Operative + 15x2 = 82 + 108 + 2 + 30)

IR - 228  (41x2 + 27x4 + 8, Ennead + 15x2 = 82 + 108 + 8 + 30)

ST - 220  (41x2 + 27x4 + 15x2 = 82 + 108 + 30)

Mini-expansions - 166 (41x2 + 27x2 + 15x2 = 82 + 54 + 30)

Promo Heroes - 18 (YL-1, RCW-1, Ra-1, Fanatic-1, DV-1, EH-1, F6-6, DWatch-4, GIL/B-2)

Promo Villains - 8 (Omni, BB, Spite, Gloom, 2 each)

Vengeance - 339 (41x5 + 4, Sentinels +20x5 + 15x2 = 205 + 4 +100 + 30)

Updates:

1) I've updated the Card List to include Andy's correct card count (thanks, Andy).

2) I've updated the FAQ to include the most recent K.N.Y.F.E. rulings.  The FAQ now also includes a copy of the Vengeance rulebook along with the Enhanced Edition rules it's always had.

3) I've updated the Randomizer to include the two Vengeance environments.  Also, all Vengeance heroes, villains, and environments are now included in the randomizer by default (as always, you can uncheck the ones you don't want to include, run the randomizer, and bookmark the resulting URL if you don't want to include the new stuff in your random games).

It will also now randomly choose a line-up of Vengeful Five villains for you if the V5 is the villain which was chosen.  There is also a checkbox in the options area where you can indicate if you want it to always include Baron Blade each time you fight the V5 like the Vengeance rulebook suggests, or you can leave it unchecked if you'd rather roll the dice and maybe fight a group of V5 villains that doesn't include the Baron.  Of course, the Baron may still come up if you've told it to not always include the Baron, because he's still one of the five villains it has to choose from.

Please let me know if you see that I've screwed anything up in all of these updates.  Thanks.

Everything will get updated.  The update should include:

  • Randomizer (done, although I may go back and spruce up some of the pix)
  • FAQ (done, though I'll continue adding stuff as we get new rulings)
  • Card List (done)
  • Vengeance accessories
  • Deck Search Sheets (adding a page for Sentinels and Naturalist)
  • Quick Reference Sheet
  • Greatest Legacy and G.I. Bunker oversized cards
The Vengeance accessories will have:
  • boxes for no-sleeves and penny-sleeved cards for all new enviros, heroes, and each of the V5 villains
  • oversized hero trackers, with a single tracker for the Sentinels which has four integrated hp spinners on it.
  • oversized villain cards. Each of the V5 has a mini-villain-sized card like the members of the Ennead have.
  • oversized mats for the two new environments
  • card-sized hp trackers for each new character.  The Sentinels each get their own, as do each of the V5 villains and each of the other heroes.
Setback's oversized hero tracker is a normal one for now, but I really want to make a version that has an additional smaller tracker wheel to track his Unlucky pool.  If that interests you, you may want to hold off printing out the Setback tracker that will be included with the update until I can put that together.

Yes and no.  I should remove that from the instructions since that same instructions file is in every expansion, and why would you care about RC Wraith if you'd only downloaded Shattered Timelines (for example).  Further, the version of RC Wraith that's in the Promos & Alts pack is the non-modified version anyway.  I do have a modified version of RC Wraith, but it's posted separately in a pack of my own customizations.

The Randomizer now has links you can click to check/uncheck all of the items in a set.  I debated whether or not to have a single link toggle all of the heroes/villains/enviros in an entire expansion at once, but decided against it because in general, it's not a good idea to have a button manipulate things off screen (when the user scrolls down and sees that things have changed, they may or may not associate the change with the action they took farther up the page).  So for now, if you want to toggle everything for a set, you'll do it independently for the heroes, villains, and enviros.  If that turns out to be a gigantic pain, let me know and I'll revisit my decision.

After using your Setback 'unlucky pool counters' i thought - how cool would it be to have a counter like that for Tachyon's burst cards?

I thought about maybe a counter for keeping track of damage on Absolute Zero with all the math needed, but that seem's overly much, and no other heroes really need it.

Another request? I found that its so much easier to just cut them out as one big panel, front and back, and fold the two sides over. It gives great stability to them, especially for Setback's counter, and since I glue them (i hate tape :P) it makes it much much more secure. All the heroes are very possible for this except The Sentinels.  - They are just aligned wrong due to their unique nature. I wonder if it would be possible to flip the right panel over so the two bottom edges are lined up that would be awesome!

But those are just for my personal requests. No need to do anything just for me :)

As always, great work. thanks a bunch.

I have all 3 generations in the ziplock (tm) bag of counters. For the most part, the first generation stay there. I haven't made any new first and second generation counters, but I actually sorta prefer the fussy second gens. I'm pretty sure I have the PDFs on my laptop so I can build more if I need to, but I find it unlikely since I have a baggie of counters.

I understand why the third gens were designed, but with the thin card stock I used the extra material in the seconds have held up well.

For the record, the tuckboxes on BGG that say they fit Dragon Shield sleeved cards......they don't, not even close.  Glad I only printed one of each type of box as a test.  So my search continues for tuckboxes for Dragon Shielded cards.  Preferably with the hero complexity printed on the sides and top as well as a bio or just overview of the hero on the back for new players.

That would be awesome, the front could have the character card art, the back a short bio, like the "file" on the back of the old GI Joe figures that you cut out.

Something like:

Codename:  Absolute Zero         (3)  {just over in the corner signifying complexity}

Aliases: Ryan Frost

Powers:  Fire and Ice.

Power Source: Science

Group Affiliation: The Freedom Five

Occupation: Adventurer, Former Janitor

Just that much would give players a good start choosing a hero to play.

Or even the....oh I can't remember what they are called, but on BGG there is a file with the how far a certain carhacter leans to certain traits on a kite sort of grid....if that makes sense.  I just wish I was better at PS so I could just make them myself.

That's why I'd do an abbreviated version of the official Bio, with maybe a Power category added, that would be very basic for characters where the other info gives no clue as to what powers they have.

I'm using empty Dragonshield sleeve boxes as the "tuck boxes" for the hero decks.  Just putting a label on the top and side to identify which hero deck is in the box.  The villains and environments are in the RC/IR expansion box since that box does fit Dragon Shield sleeved cards.

Small update to the FAQ:

1) added note that Forced Deployment puts minions into play in the top-to-bottom order they are in the trash.

2) added note that you can't rearrange the order of a trash pile

3) added note about what happens if you use SST's "Experiment" on a deck that only has one card in it.

4) fixed an error where I'd said Final Wasteland was from Shattered Timelines rather than being a Promo deck.

I saw a file link on BoardGameGeek for boxes for the base set and at least one of the expansions that were sized for premium sleeves.

I'm using Dragonshields and found that those box dimensions were just a mite too tight for my sleeved cards.  So I'm still using re-purposed empty Dragonshield sleeve boxes for heroes and keeping most of the villains and environments in the RC/IR box - which fits premium sleeved cards well.

Files have been updated. We've got the usual stuff:

  • card boxes, both for penny-sleeved and unsleeved cards
  • environment mats
  • oversized hero and villains
  • card box-sized hp trackers

for all WotC heroes, villains, and environments, plus Guise, Wager Master, and Omnitron-IV, as well as oversized hero cards for the new alts - the Prime Wardens, KNYFE: Rogue Agent, and Argent Adept: Kvothe Sixstrings.

I'm excited to say that Sky-Scraper comes with three different sizes of oversized hero cards - one is about the size of a regular card, one is the normal 4"x6" oversized size, and one is a gigantic 8"x6"-ish.  I love the giant one especially.

I've also updated the quick-reference sheet (the sheet with all the heroes/villains/enviros to help you pick who you want to play) to include the new stuff, and have updated the Search Sheet (the pages you can look through when deciding what card to search for, like if you had an Impromptu Invention) to include Sky-Scraper's equipment cards.

I have not yet updated the Card List as it's getting late, but I'll do that tomorrow.

If you find any problems or errors with the files, please let me know so I can fix them.

I just downloaded the new .zip file from my site (so I was sure I was looking at the same thing you would be looking at) and I compared the non-sleeved version against the sleeved version of the Captain Cosmic boxes.  The sleeved versions are definitely larger, so it's not that they've been transposed.  Then I downloaded the Rook City boxes (which haven't changed in years) and compared Expatriette's box with Captain Cosmic - they're the same size.  Lastly, I've printed each of the new boxes for my own use, and looking at them sitting there in my storage box next to all the other boxes, they look to be the same size as all the other non-sleeve boxes.

So, I've tested all the ways I know how, and it looks like they're right to me.  If you've got something specific I should be looking at that I didn't mention, please let me know so I can check things out further.

hey spiff,

I was messing around with your stuff today and saw the enviornment maps. I actually like the idea especially since my group plays on a circular table and its difficult to keep things organized. Do you think this could eventually spread to havning single tyles for the villians? where you can have a spot for the villian deck and discard pile and possibly the character cards? maybe even the hero cards as well. I know this wouldnt work for the all the ongoing or equipment but could help organize the table a bit.

I know greater than games has the play map for this but again that only works on certain size table or more and typically for me anyways we either play at something circular or I play by myself on a smaller table.

I don't think I'd make tiles for the villains with spaces for decks and discards.  The oversized villain cards are already pretty big and it's easy enough to put the deck and discard piles next to the oversized villain card.  So, it's not a terrible idea, but I don't think I'll do it.

I don't know if the boxes fit in the enhanced box, but I'd be surprised if they did.  Maybe someone else has tried it.

So, Spiff accessories are the best. The expanded villain cards, environment backgrounds, all the extra goodies; I love it all.

Except for the HP trackers.

I could never make the double-dial trackers work properly, and the numbers were definitely on the small side for easy viewing across a table. So I designed my own. They're about as long as a card, so they can easily be tucked into the box. There's just one generic design for heroes and villains, so you should be able to get by with six or seven dials (the Ennead and the Sentinels being the exceptions, of course). I fastened mine with 3/16" paper eyelets.

Do you guys use HP dials? Any other sweet accessorizing tips?

I received my copy of VotM today and have updated the card list on my site to include the new stuff plus the promos.  I broke the file into two - there's one for the card list itself and a second for the old info on what changed in the EE and RC updates.  The two bits used to be combined but I figured that the update info is becoming less relevant to people who buy the game nowadays so there's no point to bloating the card list with it, though it's still available if anyone wants it.

Still no art from GtG though, so still no VotM accessories.  I'm missing the card boxes big time. :(

I spent some time cleaning up the Randomizer so it's now back up to fighting strength, more or less.  I've included placeholder art taken from the web for all the new stuff, have added in all the new decks and promos, and have made it more multi-villain friendly than before.  In the Options section, it's just a one-button click to toggle between randomizing normal games and multi-villain ones.  You'll only be shown villains of the type you choose to make the choices easier, and if you choose multi-villain, it'll show full-size pix of all the villains you'll be facing down rather than the weird way I was doing it before when Vengeance was the only multi-villain game in town.

I have managed to put together three things using just art I can get off the web - environment mats for Madame M, Magmaria, and Court of Blood, and the card boxes for those three environments.  For anything else, I'm going to need the real thing.

It's not that hard to crash - if you tell it you want a multi-villain game but don't check enough villains to include in the selection, it'll complain.  I've got some basic error checking in there but it's not bullet-proof because I haven't invested the time to make it bullet-proof.

For anyone interested in news like this: I've gone back and reworked all of my oversized villain cards to remove the bit of flavor text they had and replaced it with the villain's Advanced rules. This means that if you play with Advanced rules, you don't need to lay out an additional card showing those rules - it's all on one oversized card now.

I initially included that flavor text back when the game first came out because I felt more should be done to share the story of what was happening when you fought a villain, but since then the story embedded in the game has grown immensely and it hasn't felt necessary (if it ever was) for a long time.

Mini-bosses with their own advanced rules, like the Vengeful Five and the Operative, still need an Advanced card because there's not enough room on the smaller mini-boss cards for everything.

Have you not been following the ARG/Whose Tim Cosing thread?

Wager Master made an apperiance in the game and his "regular" clue led to the next part of the game but there was a "supplemental" clue that led to that JPG, it looks like it was a joke of Wager Master's.

In any case (back to the subject of the thread), it's an official promo that will never be printed or have an incap side, but that doesn't mean people can't use it with Legacy's regular incap side if they want, which is why I added it to the Randomizer.

Bored on a Saturday and still without any VotM art to play with, I've added a new file to my site which has eight character hp trackers in various colors and with various combinations of characters on them.  They're more generic than the hp trackers I make for each individual character in the game, and this dial design is easier to manipulate than the overlapping dials in the other kind of tracker.  The trackers are card-sized, so are easy to store with your decks.

If you've been wishing for something like this, today's your lucky day.  It's available on my site now (www.spiffworld.com/sotm).

A blue-bearded angel has answered my prayers and unblocked the flow of delicious VotM art from GtG, which means I'm back in business!  Woo!  In a cruel trick of fate, this happened on the day I had planned on mainlining Daredevil season 2 episodes for 48 hours straight, but we'll see if I can rearrange that schedule to get at least a little bit of SotM accessory work done over the weekend.

Thanks, blue-bearded angel!  You made me believe in miracles again.

Turns out, I got almost no Daredevil watching done this weekend (no spoilers!), but I did get quite a bit of accessory work completed.  I've updated the file on my site which contains promos and alts to include oversized cards for all the promo stuff that came out around VotM (listed below).  It doesn't say anywhere on my site that the file's been updated because I haven't actually finished everything that's supposed to be in there yet, but I thought that since I was at a good stopping point, I'd post what I had in case anyone wanted to get started with the printing.

The file: www.spiffworld.com/sotm/files/00_promos_and_alts.zip

It now contains oversized cards for:

  • Chrono-Ranger: Best of Times
  • Scholar of the Infinite
  • Hunted Naturalist
  • Adamant Sentinels
  • Termi-nation Unity
  • Termi-nation Bunker
  • Termi-nation Abs Zero
  • Santa Guise
  • Cleverest Legacy
  • Tormented Ally Infinitor
  • Trickster Kismet
  • Chokepoint

Don't go looking for anything besides just the oversized cards at this point (no card boxes, etc.)  This stuff takes time, man! I'll get to those soon.

The "promos and alts" file on my site now includes everything having to do with the promos and alts, like boxes for Chokepoint, an environment mat for Celestial Tribunal, etc. plus all the alt hero stuff I mentioned above.  That file is now complete.

Next up is to actually do the villains from Villains.

MigrantP has shown me how to make it so you can launch a SotM: The Video Game game directly from my Randomizer on an iOS device using the Randomizer's results, so I added that capability to the Randomizer.  Get a great Randomizer match-up that you just gotta play in the video game now?  Click the link and get your game on, man!

All you have to do to enable this in the Randomizer is click the "include only decks from SotM: The Video Game" box in the options area.  That will make sure the Randomizer only chooses from decks which are actually in the video game now, and will display a link below the results to open the app and start a game using the Randomizer's results.

I've (finally) added deck boxes to the VotM collection on my site, both unsleeved and penny-sleeved.

Now that there are so many multi-villain villains, some with the same name as their non-multi-villain selves, I decided there should be a way to distinguish which are for the multi-villain format and which aren't just by looking at the boxes.  To that end, I put a white box around the "V" and the word "Villain" on the multi-villain boxes, making them easy to tell apart.  I likewise went back and added the same marking to the Vengeance villains so all multi-villain deck boxes now have the same identifier.  If you're so inclined, you can go back and reprint the V5 decks, but of course you don't have to.

The full set of VotM accessories isn't complete yet, unfortunately.  I still need to make the small hp trackers and the Advanced cards for the VotM villains.

I love these. I've done a fair amount of papercraft and am kind of looking foraward to making these, But I have a question.

I stopped using the boxes a while ago because, while convenient (and pretty), they took up too much space.  I've been using a standard four-row white baseball card box with vertical dividers to keep everything separated.  I'm not sure what I'll do when the Big Box becomes available, but it probably won't involve my custom card boxes.

They're there already.  All the new heroes, variants, and environments are in the randomizer already.  There's nothing for OblivAeon itself because I haven't been able to get that art from GtG.

EDIT:  ohhh, I see.  I added the new stuff but failed to update the selection list so you can't actually select them.  I'll do that tonight after work.  Sorry.

If anyone uses it, they'll appear in my randomizer as soon as they're in the statistics data set.  For the physical game, that'll be the next morning after someone reports a game with them and Lynkfox kicks the Google form to update the datapase.  For the digital game, it'll be on about the 2nd or 3rd of the month after the content appears.

It's ok, I figured that might be the case,

either way I'd like to thank you for your work in maintaining the randomiser throughout the entirity of Sentinels of the Multiverse, it's a great resource and I'm sure many others appreciate it as well.

EDIT: For those who want it in the meantime I edited the link to to randomise using everything including the missing 3 environments for a solo villain game game, click here for it.

This will stop working if you change the options for what's there however, but you can add &enviros25&enviros26&enviros27 to the end of the link to re add them.

And because I know people will ask, 25 is Maeyrian Refuge, 26 is Mordengrad and 27 is Fort Adamant.

I've posted all the new stuff for OblivAeon to my site, including a new file with printable hero standups to move between battle zones instead of the flat hero markers that came with the expansion.  Unfortunately, GtG has been too busy to get me the art for OblivAeon or the Scions, so those use crappy playtest art (the heroes look great, it's just the Scions that look bad).  If/When I get the real art, I'll update the file.

That's a shame, as I abosutley love your oversized hero and small villain hp trackers and was hoping to get oversized hero HP trackers for Void Guard, Stuntman, Benchmark and the new variants that came with the kickstarter. I can live without the variants, but I'd love the get trackers for the new decks.

I also couldn't find the sheet you referred to with the hero standups. Can I just check I went to the right place, Spiff's SotM Resources | Print & Play Accessories

The oversized hero hp trackers are there for VG, Stuntman, Benchmark and every variant that exists to date in the "Promos and alts" set (check again because I originally posted the file using the wrong filename so the link didn't go to the newest upload, but that's been fixed).

The Oblivaeon hero standups are there on the printables page, right below the Quick Reference Sheet.

Also, I guess I lied about not having anything else to post because I've been spending the weekend making an updated set of vertical card dividers since that's how I store my cards.  When it's done, I'll post that too.

Oh, vertical dividers could be super-helpful down the road. I have everything in the original boxes right now (all but 5 heroes in one box, all solo villains, environments, common tokens, and the other five heroes in the other box, and OblivAeon, the team villains, and the oversized cards in a third box), but that won’t work when Earth-Prime comes out. I couldn’t find a good horizontal storage solution, but there are a lot more vertical ones.

I use a four-column standard white trading card box and the entire Multiverse fits in there perfectly — heroes in two columns, villains in one, environments and multi-villain decks in the fourth. No room for SoEP though, unfortunately.

That’s all unsleeved, of course. Only a crazy person would sleeve a 3200 card game. ;)

I also sleeve character cards because they're foil and nice, but also makes it easy to tell character cards apart from the deck so people don't accidentally shuffle a variant in with their cards (I keep hero character cards/variants with their decks, as opposed to a separate tab/box)

Wait.

This comment makes me feel like I am buying SotM wrong - I can sleeve the entire 3200 cards for around $30, while a quick browse through the GtG online store seems to indicate it would cost me north of $300 to “buy a second copy of everything” - and that’s assuming I can actually even get everything (I’ve been waiting the better part of a year for my Complete Hero Variant Collection, with no end yet in sight…)

Are you guys paying ridiculous amounts for sleeves (I can get them for less than a penny per sleeve if I purchase wisely), or am I missing some super-secret discount for buying the entire SotM?

GtG has come through with the remainder of the Oblivaeon art (thanks, guys!) so I was able to finish off my set of accessories.  I have just updated the files on my site to include:

  • Card boxes (for both no-sleeve and penny sleeve) for the three Oblivaeon decks
  • Vertical dividers for the Oblivaeon decks, for people who store their cards that way like I do
  • Full color stand-ups for the Scions plus three different Oblivaeon stand-ups, one for each of his forms.

If anyone finds any problems with the files, please contact me directly at spiffworld@gmail.com and I'll fix them straight away.  I don't check these forums as much as I used to, so posting something here may not catch my eye for quite a while.  Thanks!
