Okay, so this is just me being way too much of a nerd. But I figure I’m going to sort of try to figure out what’s coming up for Definitive Edition, based on the few hints that we’ve gotten. Here is what we know; please correct me if I’m wrong!

  1. There will be a total of six sets, include the core and whatever the Oblivaeon finale ends up looking like. There will not be single decks released the way that there were for EE. Not clear on whether more hero variants will appear as a separate thing, or as part of future sets.

  2. Every deck that’s in Enhanced Edition will be receiving a Definitive Edition update. I think there might have been a vague hint that there may be a few new decks appearing, but maybe not?

  3. The second expansion is Rook City Renegades.

  4. The Scholar is not in either Rook City Renegades or the Oblivaeon expansion.

Based on this, I broke down how many decks there are to update, and then guessed how they might be thematically linked to create six expansions. Just for fun, I thought I would put my predictions here, and then after each set comes out we can see how dramatically wrong I am. So here goes:

Core Set (already published)

  • 12 Heroes [Freedom Five, Prime Wardens, Unity, Ra]
  • 6 Villains [Blade, Dawn, Voss, Omnitron, Matriarch, Akash’Bhuta]
  • 6 Environments [Megalopolis, Atlantis, Mars, Insula Primalis, Freedom Tower, Magmaria]

Expansion 1: Rook City Renegades (name confirmed)

  • 6 Heroes [Nightmist, Fixer, Expatriette, Setback, Harpy, Parse]
  • 6 Villains [Plague Rat, Spite, Chairman, Gloomweaver, Kismet, Ambuscade]
  • 4 Environments [Rook City, Pike Industrial, Realm of Discord, Madame Mittermeier’s]

I collected all of the Rook City heroes and villains and their locations, plus a couple of nemeses. Ambuscade sort of ended up here by default, but he mainly fits. Madame M’s fits the vibe, although it’s not primarily a Rook City location.

Expansion 2: Tome of the Bizarre

  • 6 Heroes [Visionary, Omnitron-X, Chrono-Ranger, Scholar, The Naturalist, The Sentinels]
  • 6 Villains [Dreamer, La Capitan, Miss Information, Iron Legacy, The Ennead, Apostate]
  • 4 Environments [Tomb of Anubis, Time Cataclysm, The Block, Silver Gulch]

This ended up as a catch-all expansion. I wanted the time travellers in a set together, I wanted the Sentinels to appear before Void Guard, and I tossed the last couple magic heroes here to round it out.

Expansion 3: Cosmic Tales

  • 6 Heroes [Idealist, Mainstay, Writhe, Doctor Medico, Sky-Scraper, Guise]
  • 6 Villains [Infinitor, Deadline, Kaargra, Progeny, Wager Master, Chokepoint]
  • 4 Environments [Dok’Thorath, Maerynian Refuge, Enclave of the Endlings, Fort Adamant]

This set ended up with the space and cosmic heroes, their enemies, and the Fort Adamant storyline for the Void Guard’s creation. I could see flipping Guise and KNYFE, but since I had Wager Master here it fit best.

Expansion 4: Revocorp Presents

  • 3 Heroes [Benchmark, Stuntman, KNYFE]
  • All 15 Team Villain Decks
  • 4 Environments [Celestial Tribunal, Court of Blood, Temple of Zhu Long, Omnitron-IV]

Team villain decks are smaller, so they can probably fit them all in if there are fewer hero decks. This set includes three heroes who either were villains or were working for them, four environments that are kind of villains in their own right, and the team villains.

Final Expansion: Oblivaeon

  • 4 Heroes [Luminary, Akash’Thriya, Lifeline, La Comodora]
  • 4 Oblivaeon Decks: Oblivaeon, Scions, Aeon Men, Missions
  • 5 Environments [Champion Studios, Nexus of the Void, Mobile Defense Platform, Mordengrad, Final Wasteland]
  • Hero variant cards.

The final set includes the four villains who became heroes specifically to fight Oblivaeon, the main four decks for the big guy himself, and all the environments that didn’t fit elsewhere, most of which were Obliveaon decks last time around. Not sure about those environments, and it feels late to have hero variants pop up here, but I’m not sure where else they would go.

I heard that RCR has 9 villains and that one of the heroes is completely new, but I don’t know how accurate that is.

Oh, well, that throws absolutely everything on my predictions into highly-anticipated chaos!

That is so many more villains that I expected. I wonder whether that means two team villain expansions, or whether it means a bunch of new villains?

Yeah, they have said there’s definitely going to be new heroes (Alpha the werewolf hero lady is a popular guess for the sixth hero in RCR, as a result), and I wager there will be new villains and environments here and there, too.

They’re clearly enamored of Fashion as a hero, so she’s probably getting a deck eventually.

I wonder if they’ll ever cave to pressure and make Multiverse decks for RPG era content. Aeon Girl deck would kinda be neat for OblivAeon, while the rest of Daybreak could be a mini expansion as Void Guard were.

They’ve said every deck will be part of a box and they won’t be doing miniexpansions. So while I don’t know if those RPG era heroes might happen or not, it would have to be part of a full expansion.

Had some speculation of my own a while back. Reposted and edited:

My old 90s Wheel of Time theorycrafting mindset has come into play. Hopefully, Adam and Christopher won’t pull a Jordan and change stuff because someone guessed correctly. From the response I got when I asked about Harpy on the podcast, I don’t think they are.

Original thoughts:
-Dark Watch will include Harpy. Since the themes of Dark Watch are “urban” and “horror” (kind of), it could be both an “urban heroes” set, and include the Southwest Sentinels, and/or a “mystic/horror” with the Enead and Gloomweaver. Could be both.
-One expansion will be a “Time and Space” set, so SkySkraper, Onmitron X, Iron Legacy, and such. Will also include updated versions of the Freedom Six variants.
-Since I don’t think that they will introduce a villain and their hero type, or two versions of a villain, I think that the penultimate will be harbingers, or “Signs and Portents” as Babylon 5 fans might put it. So Deadline and Progeny would be here.

New thoughts:
-I suspect that there are a number of concepts they weren’t able to get to work right that they might redo, like maybe Zhu Long as a full deck (either regular villain or team), or a full Biomancer deck.
-Similar to Harpy being in RCR (seems a safe assumption at this point), I wonder if La Commadora is going to be in a set prior to Oblivaeon. Same with Akash’Thriya. Lifeline and Luminary are probably still with the Oblivaeon set, because those two characters didn’t exist before O’s rampage (Stuntman will be back in there, I bet), but with how Akash and Maria Helena were introduced earlier as C&A nailed down timelines.
-I think, while the various expansions might be smaller in terms of hero/villain comp, I think variants of prior heroes will be in each. Probably depending on the theme of the set (so the F5 Freedom Five suits will be in the O, and the “Dark Watch” version of DW will be in whichever set has Zhu Long). They’ll probably continue the “first appearance” variants when the heroes are introduced.
-I wonder if SouthWest Sentinels will be the combo deck, again, or if they’ll just be individual like their Void Guard versions.
-New hero decks: Alpha and Fashion are likely, given how they’ve been getting put into the lore.

I’m all for Fashion, but I don’t remember where she would fit in the Multiverse era. Wasn’t she S’sdari in the Bloodsworn Colosseum all the way up to the OblivAeon event? Her original book was like early Silver Age, right? That’s about the time of America’s Finest Legacy, IIRC. I didn’t think she was established very well then, and her new book isn’t until the SCU era so that’s out of the card game.

I just double-checked on Fashion, because I was also uncertain. She escaped from the Coliseum during a storyline in 2013, had some guest appearances and occasional solos in the anthology comics during 2013-2016 (including the Cosmic Tales issue that C&A did for her), took part in Oblivaeon in some small way, and then got her own comic again afterwards.

So there’s definitely room for a Fashion deck, although it would also not be a surprise for her to not be there.

The original version was just a fashion comic, so there isn’t much chance of her showing up, just like there’d be no reason to make a Jim Brooks deck that has no access to Chrono-Ranger’s technology. Most likely, if we do see her, it’ll be in the cosmic set; her First Appearance variant would represent Ssdari (“Power: Deal 1 energy and 1 sonic damage” perhaps), and the regular version would be her short-lived presence in the 2014 and 2015 comics.

I’m still a little unclear how they’re defining “First Appearance” variants. It seems like it’s the first time that a particular person shows up under a specific name. Otherwise wouldn’t we have PP7 Legacy, Vernon Carter Bunker, and Henry Goodman Absolute Zero? I hope it’s not consistently that way, because I definitely want to see Black Fist, Grandmaster of the Streets! :fist_right:t6::boom:

Don’t forget that Fashion actually had a short period as a superhero before being caught up in the arena. (She wasn’t very popular at the time, though.) So her First Appearance would likely be pre-arena, which would be from way back…

They said that he could work as one, but it just wasn’t quite right. They could certainly change their minds.

My hope is that he would be one of those villains who frequently doesn’t flip, like Matriarch or Gloomweaver, so that his “True Form” is an ace in the hole which he usually won’t bother to deploy, possibly accepting a game loss rather than trying too hard to win a battle that is ultimately a passing phase of his long existence. There are several villains who aren’t as tough as they probably should be (looking at you again, Gloomy), and the best reason for why they don’t just win is that they aren’t really trying.

Christopher has publicly announced that the second expansion (third box) will be titled “Disparation.” However, everything that’s likely to go in such a box is already in your “Tome of the Bizarre” suggestion.

First Appearance variants are always going to be that character’s first appearance as a hero. That’s why First Appearance Legacy is Paul VIII and not Paul VII, and not Paul VIII as a newborn baby. That doesn’t mean Greatest Legacy won’t be back as well!

And yes, Fashion existed as a hero before being lost in space. (In fact, this happened long before Stylin’ Shirley was canceled, resulting in a canon disconnect.)

Hmm, under the title “Disparation,” I agree that Omnitron-X, Visionary, and Chrono-Ranger are likely choices, but after that group I would start reaching right for the villains-turned-hero. Most especially La Comodora, seeing as how she was co-star of that book with Chrono-Ranger. Stuntman and Luminary also seem likely (and hooray for Realm of Discord First Appearance Luminary)!

I don’t think La Comodora will come out until after La Capitan. And she, Stuntman, and Luminary were all very late heroes that I think will be saved for OblivAeon (along with Benchmark and Deadline).

I’ll throw my hat in the ring, and try to guess the Rook City Renegades contents. Assuming that the 6 heroes, 9 villains and an unknown number of environments is still correct.

We know the heroes are the 5 members of Dark Watch + 1 more. I’m pretty confident the +1 is going to be Alpha as a brand new hero, for the reasons other posts have stated.

For the villains, we’ll include the other Rook City villains and the nemeses of Dark Watch members: Spite, Plague Rat, Chairman, Gloomweaver, Kismet. I also feel comfortable throwing in Ambuscade, as a popular, street-level villain who has some association with Expat.

That leaves 3 more villains, for which I see a couple possibilities:

  • If we get Alpha, I firmly believe we’ll get Apex the Wolf King as her nemesis, especially since C&A have said he leads a huge werewolf event in the early 2000s, so he sounds big enough to get a villain deck.
  • Apostate and The Ennead are both pretty isolated, mostly only caring about their nemeses, who are both in the base game. They don’t really fit in here, but they fit less in a Disparation or Cosmic expansion, so they may wind up here by default.
  • Zhu Long is a huge Dark Watch villain, and they may have decided he’s worthy of his own villain deck.
  • All the way back in the original DE bullpen, I believe they said Harpy would get her own Nemesis symbol, instead of just the OblivAeon one, so perhaps we’ll get a new villain to be Harpy’s nemesis like Rose Griggs. Though of course she could remain without a main nemesis, like Unity.

Any 3 of those I think could fill out the remaining villains.

For the environments, we don’t know how many we’ll get, which makes it tough to speculate if we’ll get any new ones.
The existing ones I’m sure we’ll get are Rook City, Pike Industrial, The Realm of Discord, and the Temple of Zhu Long.
The Court of Blood and/or Madam Mittermeier’s are also quite likely, being evil magic places seems just up Dark Watch’s alley. If we get the Ennead, we’ll certainly also get The Tomb of Anubis to complete the set.

5 to 7 is probably more than enough environments for one set, honestly (though that’s still at most only 22 decks total, compared to 24 in the base game, and way fewer total cards since there’s fewer 40-card hero decks). But I’ll throw in a couple ideas for new environments for fun:

  • The Citadel of the Sun adds more to the Expat - Dawn connection and serves as another villain HQ to fight in. I mean, Blade already gets 2, why should Dawn not get one.
  • The Fae Court has been mentioned in several recent episodes of the podcast, including the big Fae vs the world event in the Christmas episode, so I could easily see this showing up.
  • Any of the dimensions for the Underworlds Creative Process.
  • Diamond Manor as an HQ for Dark Watch, and the magic swamp environment we all need.

Thank you for reading through my overthought ramblings and speculation. I’m probably putting a bit too much stock in them creating many new decks, but the confirmed in that Bullpen there would be some, so…

Alright, here are my predictions for what’ll be in Sentinels of the Multiverse: Definite Edition: Disparation:

Heroes:

  • Chrono-Ranger
  • La Comodora
  • Omnitron-X
  • Visionary
  • KNYFE

Villains:

  • Dreamer
  • Iron Legacy
  • La Capitan
  • Miss Information
  • Sergeant Steel

Environments:

  • The Block
  • Final Wasteland
  • Time Cataclysm
  • Silver Gulch
  • Hopefully we’ll also get some Environments for a couple of alternate realities (X-Tremeverse, Animal-Verse, etc.).

Variants:
And, of course, since this is Disparation, there will most likely be several variants. Then again, none of these variants really have significant amounts of story regarding them, so maybe it’s not so likely they’d be included.

  • Chrono-Ranger: The Chronoist
  • Chrono-Ranger: Wind-Walker
  • Fanatic: Seraph
  • Haka: Arataki
  • “Be the Gate” Tempest
  • Cursor
  • Young Legacy (Because she’s important to the Iron Legacy Event.)
  • America’s Cleverest Legacy
  • Legacy: El Mejor Legado
  • Bunker: Cold War
  • “Be the Gate” Wraith
  • Omni-Unity
  • The Freedom Six
  • The Freedom Five and Dark Watch from the ¿Quando? & ¡Ahora! universes
  • Magical Freedom Five
  • Freedom Five: 1776
  • X-Tremeverse Variants (Almost certainly for the Prime Wardens, potentially for other characters as well.)
  • Manga-Verse Variants

Just me being OCD. I like nice round numbers, multiples of 4 or 5 generally. Having 37 heroes and 27 environments feels weird, like they stopped short of the “intended” 40 or 30. I’m okay with the 24 villains though, particularly given how neat the 6x4 grid looks on the app screen.

(Hopefully in DE we get Alpha, Fashion, and exactly one more new hero while reproducing all existing ones…)

I have fingers crossed for Young Legacy getting her own deck at some point. That or possibly the Shrieker. It might be interesting having a hero deck of exclusively Gold and Silver age artwork.

Speaking of deck counting, Rook City Renegades will have 6 heroes and 9 villains. If we say it’ll have 9 environments too (the maximum guess I’m comfortable taking), that would be 24 decks total (same as the base game) and 600 cards (compared to 720 in the base game). Given that they’ve stated each expansion will be the same price as the base game (I think), that seems like a reasonable assumption (to me anyway). The loss in cards should be made up in additional variant and event cards.

Of course, there’s more to pricing than material costs, but it’s a quick way to estimate things, and shows that an equal number of environments to villains isn’t totally unreasonable.

From the most recent kickstarter update, we know that each new hero will have 4 character cards to choose from: their standard card, their 1st App. variant, and 2 more.

Those 2 more will probably consist of their old Dark Watch variant plus 1 new one (except for Hero 6). (If you’re wondering how this fits in with what they said about Mr. Fixer in his update, apparently Christopher clarified that the “Sifu Walker” variant would be his 1st App.)

So, I’ll try to take a guess at what the 1 new variant for each character will be:

Expatriette: Eclipse
Mr. Fixer: Blackfist
(we already knew these 2 from their updates)

Setback: Faye Cursed (from the St. Patricks Writer’s Room)
Nightmist: Uncursed Faye Diamond
Harpy: Blood Mage (from Episode 158)

and if the 6th is Alpha, we know it’ll be Alpha 2000 for her variant.

psst, that should be Fey Cursed Setback, not Faye Diamond Cursed.

And if this edition is all about giving every hero 4 variants…then what will happen to Bunker, who already had 5? (Legacy too, if you count America’s Cleverest.) Will Bunker end up with six versions, or will he be the one hero who doesn’t get a new variant?

The Core Set has 12 heroes, 6 villains, and 6 environments. Rook City Renegades has 6 heroes (1 new), 9 villains (3 new), and 5 environments (1 new). Also confirmed: one of the expansions will be named “Disparation.” Finally, I think we have heard that the Definitive Edition is a six-year plan, with one product per year, but I am struggling to confirm whether that is Core Set + 6 expansions or 6 products total as I look back through things.

If we imagine that the 6/9/5 count from RCR continues, the first thing to note is that the remaining 12 standard villains are not divisible by 9; assuming that no existing villains would be removed then they would have to introduce 6 new villains in 2 total expansions. This fits with RCR in introducing 3 new standard villains per expansion. My thought is, then, that there would be 2 more “standard” expansions, one team-villain expansion, and OblivAeon, bringing the Definitive Edition to 6 products total.

The Core Set and RCR each followed a pattern of including 5-hero teams plus one hero associated with that team, as well as each team HQ. But the only team left is Void Guard. So it’s hard to continue that pattern, though one set could have Void Guard plus a friend and Fort Adamant together.

I think “Disparation” is mostly straightforward to predict:

Heroes - Everybody who originated outside Universe 1/present timeline!

  • Visionary
  • Chrono-Ranger
  • La Comodora
  • Omnitron-X
  • KNYFE
  • new

Villains

  • La Capitan
  • Miss Information
  • Iron Legacy
  • The Dreamer
  • Wager Master ?
  • I’m not sure about this one
  • 3x new - maybe Voidsoul, or that thing that mind-melded everybody into a collective

Environments

  • Time Cataclysm
  • Silver Gulch
  • The Final Wasteland
  • The Block ? I’m skeptical because it’s a pocket dimension, like the Enclave, not an alternate reality or a different time
  • new

For the other “standard” expansion, I get fuzzier. I can come up with stuff to fill out either a “Cosmic Tales” or a “Tome of the Bizarre” type theme. It’s pretty quick to fill out 4 known environments for each! I have an easier time coming up with Tome of the Bizarre villains and heroes, but I think two likely new appearances will be Galactra as a villain and Fashion as a hero, which are both more Cosmic Tales. So perhaps this expansion would be a combination of both?

That leaves 10 known heroes and 9 known environments to split up among the team villain expansion and the OblivAeon expansion. Lifeline, Luminary, and the Void Guard make sense to appear with OblivAeon, as they specifically appeared and/or powered up to deal with that threat.

I’m also a little skeptical that they would lump all 15 team villains into a single expansion, and maintain the number of heroes and environments in that one. I wonder how much, if any, the team format will be changing in Definitive Edition and whether that will influence what appears in each set. I don’t play that format, but I know some people like it; only GtG really knows how popular Villains is compared to the other expansions! Anyway, whether or how that format persists will influence the composition of the post-Disparation, pre-OblivAeon expansions.

I’m focusing my math only on the expected Team Villains expansion. RCR gives us a 6/9/5 count for Heroes/Villains/Environments.
6x40 = 240
9x25 = 225
5x15 = 75
240+225+75 = 540 standard sized cards
540/60 = 9 sheets of cards for the printing machine.

So 540 standard sized cards is our ballpark limit for a Team Villain expansion. Let’s math it out!

Team Villain decks are currently 20 cards. 15 Team Villains in current existence.
15x20 = 300 cards

That leaves us 240 cards to play with. That could easily be 6 heroes, and no environments. Could also go 3 heroes (120), 3 new Team Villains (60), and 4 environments (60). So while the possibilities are unpredictable, the capacity is there as far as a print run is concerned.

**please double check my math, my kids are being kids.

Parse is confirmed for Disparation (which you could have seen by scrolling up). Visionary, Chrono-Ranger, and Omnitron-X are no-brainers. There will almost certainly be one new hero. There are arguments to be made about the sixth slot, assuming 6 heroes are in it. My personal guess is the Southwest Sentinels, partly because they’re La Capitan’s nemesis, partially so that Void Guard can appear in box 4 (Cosmic-themed).

For Environments, we certainly have Time Cataclysm, Silver Gulch, and The Final Wasteland. For Villains, definitely La Capitan, Miss Information, Iron Legacy and The Dreamer. This leaves as many as two more environments and 5 more villains.

However, there will probably be a lot of hero variants in this box. Far more than the 6 we’re getting in RCR just with known content, and there are a ton of other options out there. There will likely also be new Events for old Villains. This may come at the cost of one or more new Environment or Villain decks. Probably Villain deck(s), since we need 5 environments per box just to finish out all the old content.

That said, I do expect some new villains. There will certainly be a nemesis for any new hero. There may be a nemesis for one or more old heroes that didn’t have one of their own (i.e. Benchmark, Stuntman, Void Guard, Luminary, Lifeline, La Comodora, or possibly even Bunker, Absolute Zero, Unity, or the Scholar).

Alright, new prediction! It will be a while before we get to find out, but I’m curious to see how I’ll do.

We’ve already got everyone in the core set and Rook City Renegades. I’m fixating on synchronicity here, because we have exactly enough heroes, villains, and environments to match Rook City Renegades’ numbers in each expansion, aside from some serious weirdness for the team decks. So I’m going to predict that they’re going to make the team decks smaller and tighter, rather than predicting that there will be fewer than 15 of them.

I’m not sure about variants. In theory, DE is going with “Normal, First Appearance, Two Variants” for the heroes. This works for every hero that’ll be introduced in expansions, and it works for Unity and Ra, but the Freedom Five and Prime Wardens each have either three or four variants outside of their core and First Appearance selves.

At the same time, six variants per set is enough to give two variants to each core hero over the course of the four sets between core and Oblivaeon. So my theory is that this is what we’ll get, with Oblivaeon giving us the Freedom Five and Prime Wardens variants. At that point the only problem is Bunker, who still has three variants left to give.

I’m going to need to wait to see what the Rook City Renegades variants are before I make predictions there, I think.

With that in mind, here are my predictions:

Set #3 - Disparation

  • 6 Heroes [Visionary, Omnitron-X, Chrono-Ranger, Parse, Naturalist, New Hero]
  • 9 Villains [The Dreamer, La Capitan, Miss Information, Iron Legacy, The Ennead, Apostate, Three new]
  • 5 Environments [Tomb of Anubis, Time Cataclysm, Silver Gulch, Final Wasteland, New]

This set is where all four of our time-travellers go, alongside Parse and the Naturalist. Parse is here because of her being touched by Cosmic Omnitron, and the Naturalist is here mostly because I’m not sure where else he would go in my theories.

For villains, I’m including our time travel and multiversal villains, plus two of our remaining magic folk - each of whom represents a cataclysmic shift for heroes, and thus I think fits in here. New villains will likely include at least one nemesis for Absolute Zero or Bunker, someone connected to Unity, and someone for our new hero.

For environments, we’re looking at a mixture of time nonsense and dead gods, all gateways into other worlds. I expect the final environment will be connected to one of our new villains.

Set #4 - Cosmic Tales

  • 6 Heroes [KNYFE, Guise, Scholar, Sky-Scraper, The Southwest Sentinels, New Hero]
  • 9 Villains [Infinitor, Deadline, Kaargra, Progeny, Chokepoint, Wager Master, Three New]
  • 5 Environments [Dok’Thorath, Enclave of the Endlings, Omnitron-IV, Celestial Tribunal, The Block]

I’m pulling Guise and the Scholar into here because of their galactic travels together, and to tie them to the broader cosmic stuff going on. Sky-Scraper and KNYFE are there for space stuff and FILTER stuff, and the Sentinels are here for 90s action heroing.

For villains, I’ve got the various space villains, Chokepoint to get the Termi-Nation stuff rolling, and Wager Master to be a cosmic nuisance. Our new villains include someone for Bunker or Absolute Zero (whichever wasn’t there before), someone for Sky-Scraper, and someone for our new hero.

For environments, we’re looking at the space and technology environments. The Block squeaks in here because of its use by FILTER. It’s possible that we see Fort Adamant here, and Omnitron-IV below.

Set #5 - Revocorp Presents

  • 6 Heroes [Akash’Thriya, Benchmark, Lifeline, La Comodora, Stuntman, Fashion]
  • 15 Team Villains
  • 5 Environments [Fort Adamant, Court of Blood, Madame Mittermeir’s, Mordengrad, new]

This is a set for reformed villains and vengeance-style enemies. A lot of our previous Oblivaeon heroes end up here, as they try to be better. I’m predicting that if Fashion shows up, it’ll be here, right before the end.

For villains, I’m predicting streamlined team villain decks that don’t have as high a card count and thus can fill in completely. Maybe 15 cards each, plus a handful of special cards that don’t count towards the total.

Environments here are the ‘bad guy’ environments that haven’t already been grabbed. Our new environment… no idea. I’ll ponder that.

Set #6 - Oblivaeon

  • 6 Heroes [Luminary, Idealist, Mainstay, Writhe, Doctor Medico, New Hero]
  • Oblivaeon, Scions, Aeon Men
  • 5 Environments [Champion Studios, Nexus of the Void, Maerynian Refuge, Mobile Defense Platform, New]

We bring out Luminary and the Void Guard for the end of days, alongside most of the environments that were in the previous Oblivaeon set plus a new one. Honestly, I expect that this set’s going to have a few revisions to how everything operates to make it run faster, so I’m not sure what the villains will look like.

I dunno. At this point, I would lay even money on both appearing in the same box. It would fit both that LC and CR had an entire Dispiration volume devoted to their travels, and it would show just how screwy time shenanigans can get.

I was, however, thinking about Variants. Seems like every box is going to have more and more, as more heroes get released and prior heroes get stuff themed for each box. So Dispiration, as a box set, would probably have long-time favorites like the Freedom 6 and the Xtreen Prime Wardens. I suspect after this one, we won’t be seeing new variants for every hero. Harpy, for instance, probably doesn’t have many variants after RCR is done (maybe Vampire Harpy gets its own variant?). Or it could mean that heroes with fewer variants might have later release dates (less likely, I think).

Okay, I really want to throw my hat into the ring, so here are my predictions:

(I agree with FrivYeti on the expansion names, but not their contents. And some of these I threw in just because I’d like to see them. New guesses have *'s.)

Set #3 - Disparation

  • 7 Heroes [Chrono-Ranger, Guise, K.N.Y.F.E., Omnitron-X, Parse, Southwest Sentinels, Visionary]
  • 8 Villains [Apostate, The Dreamer, La Capitan, Chokepoint, The Ennead, Iron Legacy, Miss Information, Wager Master]
  • 6 Environments [The Block, The Final Wasteland, Silver Gulch, Time Cataclysm, Tomb of Anubis, Xtremeverse]
  • Lots of Variants

[K.N.Y.F.E. is from another universe, and Guise is affected by Wager Master (single Entity). I also threw stuff from the Egyptian gods and the Host in here, because that’s where they seem to fit most.]

Set #4 - Cosmic Tales

  • 6 Heroes [Doctor Medico, Fashion, The Idealist, Mainstay, Sky-Scraper, Writhe]
  • 9 Villains [*Celestial Tribunal, Deadline, Infinitor, Kaarga Warfang, *Leviathan, Progeny, *Schema, *Sever, Other new]
  • 5 Environments [*Darzon 7/Mosaic, Dok’Thorath Capital, Fort Adamant, The Enclave of the Endlings, Maerynian Refuge]

[Void Guard is a space team, so this is where they fit. I also think the Celestial Tribunal will become a villain, because that makes much more sense. And I think Mosaic would be a sweet environment.]

Set #5 - Revocorp Presents

  • 5 Heroes [Akash’Thriya, Benchmark, Naturalist, Scholar, Stuntman]
  • 15+ Team Villains
  • 5 Environments [MMFFCC, Mobile Defense Platform, Mordengrad, Omnitron IV, Other new]

[Basically the people that would fight Revocorp, along with the people that benefit from its tech, in the environments that I think the Vengeance events took place (plus extras). If Scholar were to come time-wise, he would have shown up in the Core Set, but I think this works - I believe he mostly just pops up occasionally until near the end.]

Set #6 - OblivAeon

  • 4 Heroes [La Comodora, Lifeline, Luminary, Other new]
  • OblivAeon and more Scions than EE
  • 5 Environments [Champion Studios, The Court of Blood, Nexus of the Void, 2 other new]

[I know La Comodora could be in Disparation, but she is one of the Heroes that has the biggest focus on OblivAeon. Lifeline and Luminary only became heroes because of OblivAeon. And Christopher and Adam have mentioned there are other Scions, so I expect more to show up. I also think this might work like the Events and Critical Events, where each Scion fight can be its own thing, split up into a campaign.]

I agree, I think it is crazy that a box called “Disparation” wouldn’t have La Comodora in it, when she

  1. is a time traveler and universe-hopper,
  2. prominently manipulates the multiverse, including erasing entire timelines, and
  3. is the co-star of the book with that name!

So far I don’t think the DE expansion contents are tied to chronological appearance order, so I don’t really buy that Disparation is “too early” for her to appear. Terrorform seems like a fairly late first appearance, after all, and we have events that appear fairly late in the core set.

I do like the idea that Disparation would be packed with variants. ¡Viva El Mejor Legado!

Speaking of Terrorform, I have absolutely no idea why that villain fits into Rook City Renegades. It seems like a much better fit for Megalopolis/RevoCorp stuff. Which is relevant here, because it gives us wiggle-room to allocate items to expansions with tenuous or no connection to the name.

I should probably point out I meant too early in real-world time. Part of it might be me being too used to her being in the last set, but I also know one of her main focuses was OblivAeon. And I like separating character that are multiple things into separate boxes (even if they do weird time stuff).

Yeah, was wondering that, especially since the Dark Watch are noticeably NOT in the cards shown. But it could be intended as a more technological counter to Gloomweaver (big, and scary), or it fits the themes of villains that you can’t face head-on, but have to work around the stuff in their decks (cultists and relics, bystanders, Ambuscade’s hit-and-run flipping).

Yeah, maybe. I suppose it could fit into Rook City Renegades because it’s actually a corporate fraud/greed story about RevoCorp. But, for that to be the angle, the RevoCorp connection would have to be really apparent in the deck, and it seems like neither the heroes nor civilians have any idea that RevoCorp was behind Terrorform. If that’s not the connection, I don’t know why it’s in there! Like you said, it doesn’t seem linked to Dark Watch or the settings.

I think he was in this set simply because they needed a new villain to announce as the first new villain ever to appear in DE, and he fit the bill better than Fey Court or Apex, who both needed to be saved for later.

Oh, right. I keep forgetting that because it seems impossible! It only gives a total of five years for them to act as a trio, pick up a fourth member, fight La Capitan multiple times as well as at least three other villains, become the Adamant Sentinels, have their fight with Chokepoint, get beamed into space, become the Void Guard, fight the Bloodsworn Coliseum, return to Earth, fight Gloomweaver, get changed by the experience, and then deal with Oblivaeon in 2016.

That’s basically a costume and complete state change every fifteen issues.

My guesses for the hero variants we’ll see on Wednesday, it’s either going to be Rook City Wraith + The Prime Wardens, or it’ll be Rook City Wraith and Super Science Tachyon + 4 new variants. I’m leaning more towards the later.

While the base game heroes have a lot of variants, most of them are related to their teams or alternate versions of those teams. Disparation can cover the Freedom 6, Xtreme Prime Wardens, WWII Legacy and Bunker, and Eternal Haka. OblivAeon contains the Freedom 5, Requital CC, and Setting Sun Ra. TermiNation is tied to Chokepoint. Redeemer Fanatic and Horus Ra are tied to their nemeses. Dark Argent Adept is tied to Cosmic Contest and Visionary.

That leaves the normal Prime Wardens, Rook City Wraith, Scientific Tachyon, and Young Legacy. RC Wraith is kinda a gimme (we even see her on one of Ambuscade’s cards), but the other 5 are up in the air for me. While Young Legacy could appear, due to her connection with Expat, I think it’s more likely she eventually gets her own hero deck, since she has her own comic line, villains and stories (I think we might get her with OblivAeon).

I also doubt the Team Villain expansion will be called Revocorp Presents. Vengeance is a very important event in Sentinel Comics, and the original basis for the team villain mode, so I think it might just be called Vengeance, or more likely Vengeance Returned, since that’s still the name of a comic line and differentiates it from the product in the old game.

I’m too tired to do more than nod along with a lot of these theories, but I wanted to pull this out.

Christopher and Adam have specifically said that they do not want “useless cards” in the expansions. They want you to be able to buy the Core Game and any possible expansion and be able to play with every card in that set. Which means that they actively want to avoid putting variants for an expansion hero in a different expansion. Events are debatable, I remember them saying, but absolutely not variants.

So, I suspect we are never getting more variants for Darkwatch or Alpha, what we have is it. That way someone doesn’t buy Disaparation then feel like they are compelled to buy Rook City Renegades because they have this “Alpha Pack Leader” Variant that they can’t use unless they buy Rook City Renegades.

This means also that when accounting variants that are going to be in the boxes, we have to account for all the variants of the heroes in that box, but extra’s will only be the Core Heroes.

So… why not throw some extra speculation? Full List

Freedom Five Variants
Freedom Six Variants
Termi-Nation Variants
GI Bunker
Prime Warden Variants
Xtreme Prime Warden Variants
Redeemer Fanatic
Eternal Haka
Greatest Legacy
Young Legacy
Horus of Two Horizons
Setting Sun
Super Scientific Tachyon
Tempest?
Rook City Wraith
Dark Conductor Adept

Okay, so where would I place these? Doing them out of Order.

OblivAeon
Setting Sun Ra
Freedom Five Variants

Obvious things are Obvious, Ra:The Setting Sun is an OblivAeon event, as were the Freedom Five suits.

Cosmic Tales
Termi-Nation Variants

If Chokepoint is here, then that is where Termi-nation has to be.

Disparation
Freedom Six Variants
GI Bunker
Greatest Legacy
Eternal Haka
Xtreme Prime Wardens
Horus of Two Horizons
Prime Wardens Variants
Redeemer Fanatic

Now we are running into problems though, as you can see this list is… too big. It is 20 variants, but Xtreme Prime Wardens and Freedom Six make the most sense here as alternative versions, GI Bunker, Greatest Legacy, and Eternal Haka have to be here for the same reason. If The Ennead are here, then we need Horus. And we have to have the regular Prime Wardens before the Xtreme Prime Wardens right?

Well maybe not. But let me finish this out.

Rook City Renegades
Rook City Wraith
Dark Conductor Adept
Young Legacy
Super Scientific Tachyon
Haunted Fanatic
Tempest?

These are kind of what’s left over after covering the other boxes. I’m pretty sure we get Haunted Fanatic and I’m pretty sure we are getting a new variant of Tempest, since he was only defined by teams and that feels strange to me .

But, Disparation is too huge… so why not shift it? Thinking on it, The Extreme Prime Wardens are an OblivAeon event, they come about from Voss’s meddling, and the Prime Warden’s variants are a bit more space focused, and later. So, what about these?

Rook City Renegades
Rook City Wraith
Dark Conductor Adept
Young Legacy
Super Scientific Tachyon
Haunted Fanatic
Tempest?

Disparation
Freedom Six Variants
GI Bunker
Greatest Legacy
Eternal Haka
Horus of Two Horizons
Redeemer Fanatic

Cosmic Tales
Termi-Nation Variants
Prime Wardens Variants

OblivAeon
Setting Sun Ra
Freedom Five Variants
Xtreme Prime Wardens

This gives a much more even distribution of the existing variants for these heroes.

With the mention of Shear Force in the First Appearance Expat art, I’m guessing one of them as the 6th hero in Disparation. Not sure who, though, as Hedgelord was part of the reboot, and he’s the only really notable member.

I really can’t imagine Sheer Force showing up as a deck. They were fairly explicit that Sheer Force was highly disconnected from SoTM mainline comics, only waaaay later getting retconned into Xtremeverse, and only being really brought up in the Multiverse Era (Guise book has two notable Sheer Force characters)

I will say this though, if we are speculating on new heroes/new villains I’d say we will need to start with not only the stuff in the Letter’s Page, but the Critical Events of Rook City and maybe even the Core Game.

The Terrorform is something I never expected, but many people point out that it is in retrospect very obvious from Akash’ Mecha, so when we start seeing what RCR has to offer, we may get hints at the new things.

I’m kind of afraid to speculate about events in future sets. How terrible would it be for the heroes to face Iron Legacy more than once? Kind of holding out hope for a critical event Legacy of Destruction, though.

As far as the Dreamer, was she a more than one-time threat? I don’t recall how many times she had a breakdown that required heroes to intervene. I guess she either got help or was contained, but it took til after the end of the Multiverse for her to take on the role of Muse.

La Capitan should be one of easiest, since she pops up multiple times either as “Ah, my old foes!” or “Sorry, who are you guys?”.

Those seem to be some of the most common picks for Disparation. Will definitely be interesting to see, and maybe we’ll get some Xtremiverse stuff too!

Would make sense? With maybe something about the Cosmic Contest? A number of the critical events are effectively different people with similar (but not identical) powersets (new one with Dr Toxica, but the Voss and Matriarch events from the first set as well). BUT that idea makes me wonder if Dark Visionary is going to be a variant for Visionary. Of course, they have been rather tight lipped about which variants from the old version will carry over, which is why there is so much speculation about Young Legacy being a separate deck (I don’t think so, but it’s not as out-there as other guesses).

    • Environments: Champion Studios, Fort Adamant, Nexus of the Void, Omnitron-IV, Time Cataclysm

I think a lot of these are obvious, but explanations for the odd choices:

  • Apostate and the Ennead go in disparation because there are already 6 good picks for Cosmic Tales.
  • The Sentinels go in Disparation because they need to come before Void Guard, and because La Capitan is there.
  • That said, I’m not sure La Capitan will still be The Sentinels’ nemesis. Their connection was always weak. La Comodora spends most of her story arc hunting Las Capitanas, so she’s a better fit. Whichever one doesn’t have La Capitan as their nemesis will get a new one, probably in Disparation. If I was going to guess a nemesis for La Comodora that we’ve actually heard of before, it would be Dark God Guise, but that doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.
  • Count Barzakh is a minor villain in Universe One, but he’s a major one in Supply & Demand Benchmark’s universe. He was slated to be a playable character in Prime War. And there’s a ton of lore and flavor with him that we don’t know.
  • Borr the Butcher was a fairly minor but established villain—he’s in Tempest’s EE deck—but only appeared as a scion, who was Stuntman’s (and Mainstay’s) nemesis. It’s not the best connection, but for the late-appearing Stuntman to get a nemesis, there aren’t a lot of choices.
  • Maerynian Refuge isn’t in space, but it’s connected to space stories, and the later expansions are packed. Plus Tempest is one of the main stars of the Cosmic Tales book.
  • There are too many possible Cosmic environments to have any confidence here, so I just picked one we know of. If I really wanted to meme, I’d pick Orbo, the Living Planet. Maybe, just maybe, Christopher and Adam finally decided to see it as a challenge they’ve left untackled for too long.
  • I’m betting on no EE box names being exactly repeated, so no Vengeance or OblivAeon.
  • Æternus, Painstake, and Darkstrife are all guesses with nothing really holding them up. Painstake and Darkstrife were created too late to make it into Disparation, but Æternus goes well with Apostate.
  • I put Omnitron-IV in OblivAeon so it would be after Omni-Blade. It’s not quite that late in the story, but it’s close, and more adventures happened earlier in Mordengrad. Plus, Mordengrad makes sense in Vengeance.
  • Why did I put Time Cataclysm in OblivAeon, of all places? I’m not confident about Time Cataclysm being an environment at all because it always seemed like more of an event than an environment to me. Putting it in at all means having 5 EE environments in one box, which seems unlikely to me—but if there is one box with 5 old environments, it’ll be OblivAeon, because we already know that whole story in detail and there’s not much room for new locations. Plus, putting it in OblivAeon means that it could reference any of the environments that came before. It’s a long shot.
  • Finally, Young Legacy. For a while I was pretty darn sure she wouldn’t get a deck. But then I realized: what new hero could be added to the OblivAeon box? We know that story really well already. It would make no sense to suddenly say “Oh by the way, this brand new hero was there and really important the whole time!” For a hero who we know was there, not a random Mist Gate throwaway, and doesn’t already have a deck, I can’t think of another choice.

One thing I know is totally missing is new nemeses for the new heroes in the last two boxes. There’s just no room for them. But then, we don’t have unique solo nemeses for Bunker, AZ, Unity, or Scholar anyway. So I figure they’ll be covered by new team villains/scions.

That’s the best I’ve got before I have to shut up.

Am I misremembering that Borr the Butcher was a SW Sentinels nemesis? Scion Borr definitely goes to Stuntman, but I don’t know who else if anyone Ansel gets.

Is the Roulette environment the space station casino that Greaser frequents? Was thinking at first it would have to do with Kismet, but she was just in a boring Earth casino and there’s already a character that hijacked an alien spaceship for their own purposes.

I really love the bold predictions, but they’ve very recently said “Tomb of the Bizarre” won’t be an expansion name. And in the very first episode where they announced Definitive Edition, they stated that Vengeance mode will still exist in some form. Some of us still like it!

I guess that could somehow be done with “Team up Events”, but I personally hope it’s real similar to how it was!

Second that! I think Team Mode is a good format that makes you play differently. Just needs an injection of fresh villains for some more variety! They’ve already made a lot more B-tier villains (i.e. somewhat less than world-ending doomsday plots) through the Writer’s Rooms and Creative Processes. And they’ve definitely fleshed out the roster of C- and D-tier goons to serve as Nemeses.

Yes; as far as I remember, Borr never interacted with the Sentinels. He was mainly a Tempest (and other cosmic heroes) villain.

Yes. See: Greazer’s episode. It’s where he met the Pink Lady, the slot machine-guessing robot whom he named his groovy space-car after.

Wait, what are “Principles?” Are they something that was revealed somewhere I haven’t seen? They bring to mind the RPG . . .

Borr is featured on the card Coordinated Strike, and I do think the Scions episode said he was originally a Sentinels foe more than anything, albeit from after the period when they Sentinels were mostly off by themselves. This may have been a retcon; 2011 C&A may very well have thought of the guy on Flash Flood as a Tempest foe, but he might not even have been named at the time.

Maybe I’m mixing him up with the Unstable version that has the Void Guard (and thus SW Sentinels) nemesis icon. I’d have to go back to the OblivAeon episodes for a re-listen, but I assume Void Guard tangled with him there. Obviously at least Mainstay did, right before Stuntman blocked the big explosion.

The Butcher must’ve been a cosmic threat while the Sentinels were still an Earth-based team.

Good catch, I forgot about that one. He might be a candidate for a new SW Sentinels nemesis if La Comodora gets La Capitan. But Stuntman has very few options. Most likely for Stuntman to get a nemesis, they’ll have to tell a whole new story we don’t know about.

Scion-Borr the Unstable gets the Sentinels as a nemesis because it was Mainstay and Stuntman who took him on.

I know, that’s why I stopped predicting Tome of the Bizarre for the Vengeance box. I’m still predicting Tomb of Anubis in Disparation.

I honestly have no idea what they’re going to do with Vengeance mode. It’s a great idea, it just doesn’t play well. My page of predictions is based on them finding a way to fix it. If they completely overhaul it, a lot of my guesses go out the window.

“Scion-Borr the Unstable gets the Sentinels as a nemesis because it was Mainstay and Stuntman who took him on.” I believe on the reverse side where he blows up, he has the OblivAeon icon, partly due to Stuntman, but also perhaps for interesting gameplay reasons, with this allowing him to always do extra damage to his boss if applicable. It won’t be clear what the intent is in all such cases until we have Definitive OblivAeon, in 2027 or whatever.

Also I would disagree that Vengeance doesn’t play well, aside from the number of decks you have to shuffle. I find games against a VOTM team feel more normal than games against single-target foes such as Progeny, as so many cards from core set heroes are dead against them.

Sorry about that, I wasn’t referring to your predictions. I do, however, like yours though. I would (and did) personally pick Darzon 7/Mosaic over The Roulette, but wouldn’t complain if we got them both. Fighting in an alien marketplace sounds like it could make for some cool mechanics though.

Ooh, that’s a good one, too. And they did actually mention that it had been part of multiple stories in Cosmic Concurrence. I don’t see a lot of description of it as an action setting, just a lot of sociopolitical stuff, but they certainly could have done that.

And now that I think of it, Cosmic Concurrence might be a better name for the box. It’s a smaller book, but so is Rook City Renegades, and it’s a more evocative title.
