Hey all was thinking about this today while playing with setting sun ra. He removes cards from game. The issue I see is an Oblivaeon game. Let’s say setting Ra is Incapped and then the player decides to bring ra back using a different variant. Are those cards removed still removed from the game or will a new variant be treated as a completely new deck and all cards will be back.

My thoughts is new deck and all cards are back but it is an interesting rule question when you can bring decks back from the dead by just changing the variant.

This can already be tested in the video game with Setting Sun Ra in the Temple of Zhu Long.  In that case the resurrected Ra comes back with his whole deck.

The rules for a character being incapacitated already state that an all of an incapacitated characters cards except their character card/s are removed from the game ((IIRC the sole exception to this is Captain Cosmic Requital who places all his constructs under his character card), and IIRC (can't actually check since the rulebook has been deleted from dropbox), the Oblivaeon rules state that a player who's hero is incapacitated can bring in another hero from outside the game who hasn't been played and doesn't have a variant already in play.

Yeah, when a hero is incapped, their cards go to the same “removed from the game” pile as any other cards from their deck that were removed from the game. At that point there’s no distinction about how they were removed from the game.
