After reading the transcript of yesterday's Q&A it sounds like the last stretch goal is 6 cards.  I've got my guess as to what they are and have seen a few others guess as well in a other threads.  Thought it might be fun to have a single thread for everyone to channel thier inner Vanessa Long.

My guess (psychic vision): the 6 cards are promo hero character cards for Ra, NightMIst, Mr. Fixer, Expatriette, Setback, and KNYFE.

103K left until we find out!

Why those six?  No love for the Naturalst, the Scholar, or Chrono-Ranger?

I think it will go back to the beginning and be variants for the Freedom Five (plus Unity).

Lots of love for all 3 of those heroes plus Sky-Scraper, Omnitron-X, the Southwest Sentinels and Parse (my favorite hero.)  I picked these 6 because:

  1. Ra is the only hero from the base game with only 1 promo, he is central to the OblivAeon story and Christopher answered to a question in the Q&A about Ra promo in the Q&A with " Perhaps. If you're good."

  2. The Dark Watch Heroes because giving each of them a promo would mean each hero from Infernal Relics or earlier would have 2. Setback's only current promo was released before his deck and I'm guessing Christopher might want to make a new one now that he has the deck to go with. Plus Setback's mechanic is so unique and awesome if I were a game designer I'd want to find a fun way to change his game up (same holds true for NightMist and Mr. Fixer).

  3. That leaves KNYFE which is basicly a shot in the dark. My reasoning was she's the hero whose goal was the most closely tied to stopping OblivAeon (other than Lifeline but he's 1. new and 2. already getting a promo with this expansion.

  4. The heroes you listed all got promo's with Villains. Chrono's sparked lots of debate and its pretty hard to come up with another idea for what a Nataralist power could be be thats not similar to his existing 2.

Of course, I would never have guessed additional Prime Wardens promos or a Heroic Akash'bhuta so psychic powers aside I don't really put too much stock in my own insites into the mad genius that is Christopher.

edit: Also I would love those "Be The Gate" Heroes but there are 7 of them which makes them seem less likely to me.

Scholar seems unlikely based on Scholar of the Infinite incap side unless he figured someway to rematerialize.  Game wise I'm not sure how a new promo for the Naturalist would work.  Story wise I'm sure something could be figured out.  A Chrono-Ranger would have to be right before he renamed himself Renegade since his only promo looks like it would leave him in the condition we've seen for Renegade art.  Otherwise it would have to be CR from an alternate universe.

Thinking of that my guess for the promos would be some alternate universe versions of the heroes if they are promo heroes.

Eight, if you count ColdWaЯ.

Those are sound reasons.  I guess I get more caught up in total number of promos than the timing of their release.

(EDIT: It's only tangential to the thread, but I don't really think it deserves one of its own, so I am putting this here - my friends and I have been calling that batch of alternate heroes "The Gatewatch," as a silly Magic the Gathering reference, and named them individually as Akash'RoseBush, Redeemer Apostate, The Masked Mink, Spatial Scout, Breakthrough, Sky-Fire, and Cosmic Compiler.  Those last three in particular I felt the need to share.)

This is what my guess is (read: what I'm hoping). Especially since Legacy- who is practically the poster boy for the series- still doesn't have any promos that are actually Paul Parsons. Yes, some characters suchas Bunker and Argent Adept have had alternates that represented other characters, but they each have at least one that's still them. Legacy is the only one that doesn't have an alternate to show how he's learned, grown, or adapated to situations as a character. And the Freedom Five are the only major team that doesn't have a set of cards specifically dedicated to them as a team.

An additional six cards for OblivAeon, either

a) giving alternate setups for the game, or

b) creating a 16-stage final boss battle…the real Sentinels starts here?

What kind of HP & Power would you give Iron Legacy reformed?

I'd give him:

34hp

Iron Justice

Power:  Deal up to 3 targets 1 melee damage each.

Because with that deck it would get really good.  I know it is one more than F6 Wraith has, but Legacy base powers are those kind of powers.

My guesses (and secret fantasies):

  1. Variant card for Ra: Leader of the Pantheon.

  2. Special card for Ennead, to be placed alongside Ra when his variant form is used. Essentially an extra hero target providing more powers for Ra’s player turn.

  3. Alternate card for Anubis, to substitute his card in the Tomb when the environment is played in Oblivaeon mode.

  4. New instrument for Xtreme Argent Adept to replace his pipes: Drake’s Electric Six-string.

5&6. ColdWar + special setup card, standalone hero created by mixing specific cards from Bunker and AZ’s deck.

It's 6 new heroes yall, boom bam.

Alright so outside of crazy person dreams I think expanding base set characters more seems logical for the end but we already have Visonary, Tempest, Haka

and Fantatic with brand new promos (Tempest and Fantatic in the xtream primewardens).  Zero, Bunker, Ra, Legecy, Wraith, Tachycon, and I guess Unity

Glad to hear it!

Even Iron Legacy has 32 HP - why change it upon going Good?

I do like the power - an area damage Legacy could get pretty nasty.

This is the best thing I've ever heard.

Really, ending the line with new promos of the Freedom Five (plus either Ra or Unity, depending) does seem the most likely.  But where's the fun in likely guesses?

I think be the gate is still a good option for promos. While there's eight characters on that cover, two aren't hero decks right? So we'd have lady Chrono, akash, nightmist, guy fanatic (prob apostate), sky scraper and setback. Though an alternate freedom six is also likely except for bunker so maybe slipping in someone else.

OK, I'm going to take a different approach here; I think the 6 will be "What If" style promos, letting you play particular decks as other heroes.

A Ra promo which is Helena, whose visions came from the Egyptian Pantheon and led her to the fabled staff, alongside a Fanatic promo of Blake Washington, who came across the sword Absolution while excavating some European ruins. A Tachyon promo of Pauline Parsons', America's Fastest Legacy, who's added super-speed to her family line's powers... Finally, we can play as two generations of Parsons without needing a new deck. (Or maybe three; perhaps this Chrono Ranger is Jo Parsons, a quiet gunslinger who has developed a supernatural sense of impending danger, giving him the edge as he is sucked through time).

Etc etc, I dare say some of you can come up with some much smarter crossovers!

Even though their base cards already depict them as Freedom Five members, I'd still like for them to get a special set that specifically denote them as members, with their team name at the top of the card like the Prime Wardens and Dark Watch have. Given that they're the flagship team, I think it'd be fitting that the final tier of the kickstarter feature them.

And of course, the sixth card be Freedom Five Intern Unity.

Unity should have Bot cards for all the Heroes.

Then she'll need a Set-Up card:

SET-UP
Search Unity's deck for all of the Hero Bots. Shuffle them and deal five of them face down. Place the remaining Hero Bot cards aside without looking at them. Shuffle the five dealt Hero Bot cards into your deck. Draw 4 cards.

GAME PLAY
Any time a Hero Bot card would go into the trash, remove it from the game instead. Then place the top card of the unused Hero Bot deck into the trash in its place.

This would be really, really cool.

And if we're going to go this route, there are all sorts of decks that could use this sort of "variant." New guns/ammo for ExPat! New Constructs for Captain Cosmic.

I am hoping, in fact, that the Mission Deck will have just these sorts of things, (we already know there is a card that will have the keyword "Gun") So maybe there will also be some "Mechanical Golem" cards or Construct Cards, etc.

But, maybe we should start an official BGG Variant thread with this idea.

That's kinda why I think it's plausible; SotM has a history of finding new ways to play with the format and introducing new concepts. A few ideas off the top of my head (please correct me if I'm wrong about when these were introduced, but fairly sure they all came in after the base game):

  • Ambuscade added face-up trap cards.
  • The Ennead added villains with multiple character cards.
  • The Sentinels added Heroes with multiple character cards.
  • Vengeance added a whole playstyle.
  • Villains added a bunch of stuff, which I'll totally get around to trying out one day.
  • Setback added their own token pool.
  • The Tomb of Anubis added the prizes to give players extra abilities from outside their deck.
  • Khagraa added a whole extra deck outside the usual Environments/Heroes/Villains types. (I don't know if the Title Deck technically counts as a villain deck, but still, you get the point.)
  • Spite added the Safehouse and Drugs.
  • Sky Scraper added swapping character cards.
  • Unity added a hero based around cards she couldn't directly play.
  • Chrono-Ranger and Captain Cosmic both added Heroes based primarily around playing cards into other areas (bounties for CR, constructs for CC).
  • The Temple of Zhu Long added the idea of an environment hiding cards in your deck.
  • Celestrial Tribunal added bringing in cards from the box to the current game.
  • Completionist Guise in the box looks like adding specialist tokens, along with whatever the heck they're used for.
  • As for Oblivaeon itself, it's already giving us a third (final?) playstyle, and the first full new decks for existing heroes (Void Guard).
  • Oh, and going way back; America's Newest Legacy gave us alternate character cards for decks.
That last one is key here, because swapping cards within a deck is basically promos plus. It's one of the few mechanics they haven't toyed with yet.

(Update: trimmed this down a little because, daaaaamn. I got carried away!)

I'm not sure how a list of new mechanics previously introduced implies that any particular other new mechanic will be introduced. There are an infinite number of possible new mechanics, not a few...

It wasn’t meant to imply that it would be introduced, just to respond to the implication that, because it had never been done before, it couldn’t be; we’ve had a continual stream of things that had never been done before. It’s one of the things that’s kept the game so fresh, to me at least… Nothing’s ever felt like filler.

That's a false equivalency. With the exception of promos, which were introduced four years ago back when the game was still young, every single thing you listed was, at least, a deck of its own. New decks or new expansions play with new concepts, and that's great. Maybe one of the new heroes will have cards they can swap in and out of their deck. I don't think they will, but if you want to take that position then I won't argue.

But the fact that because new decks explore new possibility spaces absolutely does not imply that they're just going to start dropping huge new concepts on existing decks. Because half the things you listed are not hugely innovative, or entirely new, and half of the rest have those things as focal points, for decks or even expansions. Something as massive as customising an already existing deck is not going to happen with six cards for a single hero as an afterthought. It just isn't.

I think you’re taking it as trying to be equivalent to a thing I didn’t intend. Yes, it’s a complete new mechanic they’ve not done before, not like the others. My point is that, at their times, the others were complete new mechanics unlike the others. If Khagraa wasn’t out yet and had instead been an announced for Oblivaeon, and speculation had been it would include a complete new deck, people may have felt “it hasn’t been done before, why would they start adding decks that aren’t heroes, villains or environments this late? Won’t happen”.

Yes, most of those have been their own, isolated decks (which I personally don’t see as a problem here… Again, new mechanics do new things, of course there’s an aspect of it that hasn’t been done before, that’s what new means), and I know you’ve said “excepting promos”, but if we don’t except promos, we have examples of cards from already-released heros getting replacements down the line that you swap in and out.

Ultimately, it’s a judgement call on if that’s close enough to make it plausible (if not particularly likely). Although it’s rather academic if MatchStickMan is right and they’ve said they’ll never do it… that’s the nail in this particular coffin.

So, how 'bout that Kickstarter?

Oh! I know! Wouldn't that, even with a Ra promo, just be 5 cards? The four of Dark Watch and Ra?

I just noticed the Prime Wardens thing today, also.

I really like the idea of actual Freedom "Five" promos, with Unity finally making it up to the varsity team. It would be a nice way to round out the Freedom Five's story. I think, however, that this is probably unlikely given the previous stance about each Legacy promo being a different Legacy. I guess you could get around this by saying that the "main" Legacy does not actually have a promo of his own, but still …

P.S. I know Unity plus the original Five is Six, but I wanted to avoid confusion with the alternate timeline Freedom Six.

Think alternative Dark Watch promos may be likely. Both the Freedom 5/6 and Prime Wardens have alternate universe promos so feels like that would add good symmetry.

Otherwise, actual Freedom 5 promos would be good too. Issue with that being yet another Bunker promo and breaking the each Legacy being a different Legacy trend. Though, having one of the final promos being Legacy would make good "bookends" with the first promo being Young Legacy.

And either way, am pretty sure the 6th card will be Ra. Think that was kind of confirmed.

Maia's belt is a utility belt, and has nothing to do with holding up her clothes--it's there to hold gadgets.

To me it looks the same shade as her neck and arms, and I agree that she needs more sun (unless it's the lighting of that cemetery?) If so, I personally feel like that's a pretty funny take on boob windows.

I’m not sure where people are getting Maia’s hip patches are white from. They’re clearly a pale flesh tone, the same as her neck/cleavage and her bare arms… They’re definitely holes, and I was quite disappointed to see them especially after all the debates going on here surrounding Mindphyre’s design and her (admittedly far more gratuitous) costume gap.

Did someone cast Summon Silverleaf?

Oh. It seems like I have to be disappointed again. :frowning:

Wraith's hip holes (yes, that looks like skin to me too) make me sad. It's not that I have anything against skin - it isn't skin itself that is a problem, and of course regular Wraith has much more on show, and I'm good with that.

It's just that this costume makes it very clear that Maia's gone commando. I mean it's impossible for her to be wearing underwear with those holes in the position they are.

Again, I have no problem with people not wearing underwear. No problem there at all. My problem is with a costume that looks like it was designed to show off a lack of underwear. Whether it's intended or not, the costume practically screams at you that Wraith chose to go knickerless today, and is that really an appropriate thing to be telling the whole world while you're doing your day job?

Personally I don't fancy Lycra/Spandex directly in contact with my genitals anyway. That sounds sweaty and uncomfortable and an interesting way to get yourself a UTI.

Put some panties on, Wraith. Or at least stop making it absolutely clear to everyone that you aren't wearing any, because at least some of us really don't want to know.

Again don't seem like they are skin tones and if you look at the wrinkles in them it matches up with the costume which should not be the case if it was intended to be skin.   I think the coloring could be made more apparent but it is not skin by my viewpoint.

Edit: If we get confirmation that it is hip windows then I would agree that it seems out of place.

Comparing the art in the digital game to the card art it looks like Wraith's skin is darker than the skin-like tone used on the Freedom Five variant. We know from the streams that Adam uses the palette from earlier cards to draw the newer cards, but he typically refers to the previous version of the same card (Redeemer Fanatic for Redeemer Fanatic, for example).

Anyway, even if it doesn't match it looks a lot like skin, so a different color would probably work better if it's not intended to be skin. I can't tell either way which means I am pretty much in agreement with Silverleaf atm.

Wow.  That would make Dual Crowbars insane.  Have Fixer deal himself 3 damage (bumped to 4 thanks to Crowbars), deal 5 damage to a target.  Then deal 2 damage to a target, deal 3 damage to another target, and repeat three more times.  Basically, deal himself 4 damage to spread 25 damage among enemy targets, as long as there are three or more enemies in play.  This would let him easily clear mob-heavy decks like Voss, Matriarch, Dreamer, and Final Wasteland.  Also would make him pretty dominating in Vengeance/Villains style play.  Add a Greased Monkey Fist or other damage boost and he gets even more crazy.  Interestingly, it does not break Jack Handle as much, since he doesn't actually hit himself, so he only gets one shot of damage off; though it does let him deal 3 damage to everything for free, which is still kinda ridiculous.

I'm okay with this.

It is hard to tell but I think Wraith's arms and hips are costume, while what we can see of her neck and chest are skin - they just look a little bit more sort of pinkish than her arms/hips, which look more sort of grey. Maybe they need to be darkened a bit so they're more obviously grey or something.

I have some good news and some bad news.  The bad news is, after taking a VERY close look at the pixels, the hips sections and arm sections use the same color palette - all indications are that those are intended to be skin.

The good news is that I took that look whilst changing things slightly.

And, yes, of course I actually did this with the full image.  This is just showing a zoom in on Maia herself, because in order to get it under 500kb to upload it here, I needed to do that or compress it down it hideousness (that version is also attached, below).  I really need to track down some image hosting somewhere, now that I am apparently learning digital art exclusively to give pants to female Sentinels.

White or skin, I shall never want patches there, since they break what are otherwise really slick lines on that outfit.

However!  If you want a FV Wraith who looks less like Rook City Mk. II and more like she's sporting the red white and blue, here's something I just mocked up:

With the full art at a reasonable file size.  Slowly but surely, I'm getting the hang of this.

The blue I used here is so faded because, frankly, that was a lot faster than getting everything down as deep as Legacy's blue.  I could fix that with a bit of drudge work, but it's actually kind of growing on me.  Even when she's using his basic boots/gloves/cape colour scheme, Thw Wraith just isn't going to look at bright and clear-cut as Legacy.

I don't like this any more or less than the purple, but the purple does throw back to her Rook City outfit, which I think is nice. However, I am becoming increasingly convinced that it looks way better without the side holes/patches. You did a nice job, I have to look really closely to find where you filled in the holes, and if I didn't know they were there I probably wouldn't notice at all.
