Simple question: Is our friendly neighborhood puzzle maker/ hero aide actually the hero Parse in the Net?

In the art livestream, Christopher made an interesting comment about Parse along the lines of: "People who are interested in Parse should look at her backstory, then look at her incap art, then look at her back story and incap art again

So in the interest of more story I did just that and here's what I found:

Parse worked on the Omnitron Core Project with RevoCorp after its original iteration had been defeated. With the "cosmic entity" we now know as Oblivaeon affected Omnitron to give us Cosmic Omnitron, Parse was in the same room, and saw the "overflow of information." This overflow also gave Parse enhanced mental capabilities. It also seems that Kim was "updated" in order to accept some sort of code into her system.

The implication (and the explicit statement =P) being that Parse's natural powers were amplified by OblivAeon to get her superpowers.

That's cool enough on its own.

On her incap?  Well it shows Kim's Glowing eyes and glasses, with a blank expression. There sees to be code running across her eyes. Both her eyes and her glasses (which are on top of her head) emit some pale blueish light. The code in Kim's eyes also looks like it is flowing through/from her rather than something that Kim/Parse is staring at.

So, is the implication that Kim has gone even more digital? Enough that she is now able to become data?

Going one step further. Does this mean that she can now communicate to others through code and data?  If she can, that brings me to my final thought:

Was Parse Tim Cosing/the Scion?

Parse had a noticeable absence in the ARG comics, being one of 3 heroes not mentioned (the others being the naturalist and guise).

In the second-to-last comic in the ARG, the Scion pretty much owned up to giving the Heroes messages and clues to lead them to the Scion.

The heroes's describe the voice of the Scion as "not-unfamiliar but unrecognizable" Could this be a way of point us to look at some one we already know as the Scion?

Depending on how the Power-Granting of OblivAeon works, does that mean that OblivAeon took control over Parse at some point becuase of her power? The scion says that it met OblivAeon "outside space and time"; Could this be Parse's subtle nod to being data? Outside normal space and time in the net? In the art that Adam drew of her recently, she also has a distictive circlet on her head, and the scion mentioned being granted a collar in exchange for the power given by Oblivaeon; this could also help tie the two together.

So can our friendly neighborhood Parse be a unwitting villain in OblivAeon? Is this just a way to give her a fancy promo? Who knows? Christopher knows. I guess we all will Feb. 9th

Sorry, I specifically meant her being the scion wasn't that interesting. The first half of your post struck me as pretty cool, but having Parse be a villain just bothers me.

More specifically, the scion in Scion's Aid doesn't sound like someone who would normally be an ally, and it seems to me that said scion is more likely to turn out to be an adversary in the future, or simply become irrelevant to the Sentinels franchise if the scion does indeed absorb Oblivaeon's power. There's pretty much no risk in allying with the scion if the scion turns out to be a hero, and I don't want to see Parse become irrelevant to the franchise.

But Parse does show up with Chrono-Ranger and KNYFE, Chorno portal them all in.

I also belive Parse has some cosmic powers as well. We now need to decode the numbers in her eyes and look for sign language. . .

Baron Blade a Villian, yeah sure. But in the Obliveaon pic he was pink power lines, those that mostly relate to Unity, the shirt and gogglw scream Unity. Is that a Baron Blade form a diffent world, A Unity-Blade?

Also that we decided the enviroment thing. very interesting. A vote going to be part of the kick starter?

I don't think she necessarily becomes a villian either. I think if she is the Scion, she's starting to break whatever control OblivAeon has over her, hence the calling together of heroes, and saying that she'll join them eventually. She wants OblivAeon not to suspect some sort of outside help.

Even if Parse is not the Scion, I still think that was the Scion's purpose, helping the heroes in a way that OblivAeon didn't notice

The Scion comes across as kind of dodgy. The comment about the heroes not being as dense as they seem suggests arrogance (as does its smugly satisfied comment later. The voice having a "dangerous, threatening" edge suggests some antagonism. The desire for the entity's power is pretty classically villainous. That is, pretty much everything the voice says suggests that it is a villain or at least has an adversarial relationship with the heroes.

The comment about being found beyond space and time leaves us with basically one Sentinels character we're familiar with - Voss. Parse's incap art doesn't suggest that Parse herself is beyond space and time. IIRC Nightmist pulled Voss out of this universe with the mist. That's the art on Mistbound, after all.

I would argue that Voss is more likely than Parse, as he would certainly fit the voice's attitude toward the heroes as well as his own lust for power. Is it Voss? I don't know, that's just my best guess.

Ah good catch, I completely missed this. I don't know. After this she isn't spoken of again, however. If I am correct, her "Reveal the Flaws" card shows her in her original outfit. Maybe something happened in the fight against Progeny? The comics did say how most of the heroes got beaten against him (maybe this is her incap art).

frankly who knows. Apostate is the only villain we know exactly nothing about. Motives, where he came from, relation to fanatic, what the "host" is, why or what he is an "emissary" to, why his card art back has a globe on it.

Iv said it for years. But the reason we know none of those answers is bc it is too critical to the end story and big bad. Look at Fanatic in tactics and tell me something big doesn't happen here.

I'm betting that the scion's "not-unfamiliar yet unrecognizable" voice belongs to Baron Blade.  It would make sense for him to be giving backhanded compliments to the heroes in a smirking tone and also refer to Setback as Mr. Riske.  Also, the idea that this scion wants to steal the cosmic entity's power for themselves plays directly into the idea I posted in December (https://greaterthangames.com/comment/122180#comment-122180) about a cosmic powered Baron Blade returning in the finale (which is very much in keeping with the comic book tropes of Doctor Doom stealing the Silver Surfer's power).

My #2 guess is Scholar (Look at his promo through this lens and you can see this possibly making sense)

Also what Christopher said during Friday's Q&A implies it pretty strongly.

  1. DWSetback: Will Baron Blade really be a playable hero?
  2. GTGChristopher: @Dwsetback It seems like Baron Blade has finally found a enemy so strong that he's willing to work with the likes of Legacy!

The Scion calls them "little heroes of earth", to me that implies the scion is not from earth.

Voss is still my #1 guess.

I really like the theories put forth about Apostate and could see him being my #2 guess, since we know nothing about his backstory. Also more of his back story would mean more of Fanatic's too.

I can't really see it being Scholor or any other Hero.

I seem to remember an old quote saying that Voss wont return in SotM but will in Tactics, though unreconizable. I'll try and find it but I don't think we will see Voss make his return just yet from where ever he was banished to.

Edit: https://greaterthangames.com/comment/90365#comment-90365

Here we go. The question was if Voss will ever be in Tactics. The response was yes and that he would be unrecognizable. I guess that doesn't rule him out of SotM persay, but I'd but a hefty wager on the bet that we will not see him.

Australian Aborigine on top of that, IIRC.

That's actually one of the things I love - the diversity of hero backgrounds. We've also got a Maori, Baron Blade is definitely Baltic (I think I remember Lithuanian, but it might be Latvian), a core set that's almost half female (one of whom is lesbian), at least one Jewish girl in an expansion…

I wasn't saying that Blade won't be a Hero deck in the next expansion, I just think that he's also the Scion that turns against OblivAeon.  I think the fact that the Scion refers to Setback as "Mr. Riske" is the telling clue here.  Why would another character bother with that particular name?

There's evidence that there are multiple Scions.  Perhaps part of how the heroes defeat OblivAeon is by finding ways to turn them against their master.

If anyone is interested I pushed the code together from Parse's incap art. Maybe someone smarter than me can do something with it. I merged the left and right sides as I think that the 1V in the third combines with the 1V on the other side, and the same applies to the R: on the next row.

There are a handful of possible characters who would say "Mr. Riske" outside of Baron Blade, I don't think it is unique feature of his.

It could be someone else from that RevoCorp project.

If my hunches are correct, it could be Scholar.

I'm just pointing out that there are other interesting options. Plus, if Baron was given the power of Oblivaeon, wouldnt he be…like…REALLY powerful in Tactics? Just a thought.

My first guess would have been the Shcolar too. I mean, he's one of the most mysterious character. No one really knows where he comes from and why he aids the heroes… What he can do with this philosopher stone is… quite interesting to say the least, transforming his body into pure energy for instance…!

I made a couple of observation that could point to the Scholar for a potential Scion. I'll try to gather all of it in one place…

the biggest thing that makes me think its not the scholar is the fact the scion is has a strong arrogance and condescension to the heroes while based upon his cards and other bits of flavor, the scholar's been more of a zen-like kind mentor figure, and even if he faded out due to the events of his promo, I don't think his personality would do a near 180.

It's hard to say what being the gateway between here and the infinite void will do to a person.

It's also no small coincidence that Guise is shown A LOT in artwork with our gateway Scholar including that crazy incap art…Lets work backwards for a second here:

Guise came into being because he is connected to Wager Master. Now, Wager Master represents all of the "impossible possibilities" of reality when "The Wager" was lost (see his bio for a stronger sense of what I'm talking about). If Wager Master (and what comes from him) represents all of the "impossible possibilities", then what represents all of the "Possible Possibilities"? The Multiverse. The Wager that nothing would happen was lost and it created the Multiverse at the begining of known time. Someone won that bet. I know because Christopher said it (sorry the link to that is in the playtester forum somewhere). Wanna know who I think won that bet? Our big bad cosmic entity. (As an aside, I still firmly believe that it was Jansa from the Enclave of Endlings who lost that initial bet. OblivAeon having a very "Endling"-like visual design doesn't help disprove that theory. There is also a comic series called Terminarc which takes place toward the end of the comic run. Coincidence?).

Ok, so I'm playing a little 6-degrees-of-kevin-bacon here with connecting Scholar to OblivAeon (if that is even his proper name), but where else exactly do you suppose a gate to the infinite void would lead if not to oblivaeon?

With that said, my money is still on Apostate (though I reserve the right to hedge any and all bets), but this is just a little something to chew on.

I still strongly believe that the someone who won the bet is some kind of meta thing and points to Christopher and Adam. On a certain level, they are the creators of the whole multiverse. They are the ones who took a bet and pitched their idea into the world to see if it would take off. They kinda won that bet…! Another point of interest: Guise. Guise got his powers from a contact with Wager Master (who was created when the bet that nothing would happen was lost) and he is now able to break the fourth wall; Interacting with the "real world", the world where the creators of the multiverse hail from…

I might be wrong too, but I kinda like the metaphor…

I think this is the case. Someone asked during the last Q&A if the fact that the game "Sentinels Tactics" has a name that doesn't contain "…of the Multiverse" was telling of something, and Christopher confirmed it was (in his mysterious way, of course).

I don't know if the Multiverse is collapsing down into a single universe, or if the main storyline's universe is somehow permanently and forever cordened off from the other planes of existence… but I strongly suspect that what we'll be left with moving forward (into the Tactics timeline) is the only universe we'll have to play in.

The Multiverse collapse was a theory that I postited waaaay back when Tactics was first coming out (thread is here somewhere but I can't find it). Getting "confirmation" that "of the Multiverse" is important is interesting but I didn't post because of Christopher's ambiguous answer, it could be important just as an identifier to separate products for us, here in the real world.
