So, the new cards plus the ARG plus proctoring leaving me super bored plus an abundance of post its... I decided to try and categorize the heroes.  Many can fit into multiple categories, but I think these more or less fit:

Swiss Army Knife: This category of character can do a bit of everything. They kill ongoings, do lowish steady damage, and just generally fill needs on the team.

The characters: Omnitron X, Tempest, Wraith (all versions), Fanatic, Dark Watch NightMist, Tachyon

Superior Support:  These guys don’t damage much, but they make the game easier by making other hero’s jobs easier.

The Characters: Visionary (both), Parse, Captain Cosmic, Team Leader Tachyon, Argent Adept (normal and Prime Wardens), Bunker (Engine of War and GI)

Solo Tier:  These are guys with a bit longer set up who do a lot to support a team, like the Swiss Army Knife class, but they tend to have a semi-ultimate set up where if they’re the last hero, the game is still very often in your hands.  These guys can support, but also benefit a ton from any extra support.  This is my favorite group.

The Characters: Nightmist, Scholar, Legacy (any), Nightmist, Hunted Naturalist, Sky Skraper.

Glass Cannons:  Fairly self-explanatory.  These guys deal damage and lots of it, early and often.  There are some of these that just crush face.

The Characters: Chrono Ranger, Knyfe, DW Fixer, Expatriette (Both), Sentinels, Absolute Zero (Termination and F6), Prime Wardens Tempest, Golem Unity, Ra

Long Term Reward:  These are your builders.  They tend to look for power combos. They can work otherwise, but they’re really about a giant attack down the line while they do whatever else early.

The Characters: Absolute Zero, Eternal Haka, Redeemer Fanatic, Super Scientific Tachyon, Bunker, Termi-Nation Unity, Horus Ra

Combo:  These are similar to long term reward, except they don’t want a super combo or uber set up, but they need a few different combos that they can set up for themselves and others.

Characters: Mr. Fixer, Kvothe, Setback, Guise (and Santa Guise) Prime Wardens Fanatic, Prime Wardens Haka, Scholar of the Infinite, Unity, Prime Wardens Captain Cosmic, Chrono Ranger Best of Times, Rogue Agent Knyfe, Admant Sentinels, Naturalist

So, I know people can fit more than one place, but, in general, agree or disagree with the categories and placement? Other thoughts?

I feel like The Naturalist could also be a swiss army knife character. He has some support, some damage, some tanking, and deck manipulation/ongoing destruction

I would class the Adept as a Swiss Army Knife too - he can do pretty much anything, including hefty amounts of damage if suitably buffed (wheter by himself or external sources). Been there, done that ;).

AA is also Long-Term Reward: things happen quite early, but it's later in the game where he really shines.

Thinking about it, he's also "Combo", because with pretty much any collection of any number of songs (with or without at least one instrument) he can do stuff - I recall a game versus Dawn where I never managed to get out more than one instrument and two songs but I managed just fine :D.
