This may be spoilers for those who haven't gotten VotM or seen the cards.

Why is Ambuscade's face not horribly scarred, unless he's so vain he thinks that little scratch is "horribly disfigured"?

Is there somewhere that explains this?

I think it's been touched on earlier, but it could be that his vanity is so great that even the slightest blemish "ruins" his complection. Kind of an interesting reveal, I think :)

It's also what Jack Kirby had in mind for Dr Doom. That the original scar was tiny but it horribly marred his flawless countenance in his own mind. Later artists have gone for a more literal reading of Doom's words.

Doom was so upset about his scar that he put his mask on before it finished cooling from the forge, thereby completely wrecking his face. Doom has never been a patient person....

I recall a Batman villain from the animated series that wore a mask and didn't want anyone to see her face.  When the mask fell off it revealed a face with no blemishes.   Apparently she had become obsessed with perfection from modeling days and she could still see flaws in her face.

That's what I thought. He seemed to be a Dr. Doom/Vega (from Street Fighter) kind of attitude.

Thanks!

I remember that episode. I think her problem was also that she thought she was getting old – so one or two wrinkles were horrible disfigurements to her.

See also Shadow from the first Freedom Force game (for hideous scarring), it's a pretty common comic book trope.

I was aware of the trope, but not sure if this was the reason. that's what i suspected to begin with
