Is there any plan to make more villain variant cards? Or has VotM more or less supplanted that concept?

There is at least two new villain variants in the new Oversized Villain pack. They are for Kismet and Infinitor.
But those will be the last of them since SotM is rapidly approaching the end point with just a final mega expansion on the horizon
I would be interested in A Akash Bhuta promo card, of course I'm pretty sure someone will fan create one if they don't after the storyline is over. Akash Dhartha may even be a great source of inspiration to make such a promo card.
I thought one of them was chokepoint
Chokepoint is a standard villain. No promos for her have been announced, also seems unlikely she will have any as the oversized character card pack is supposed to have all character cards that are not innately oversized.
Chokepoint would seem to come along pretty late in the SotM storyline so a variant wouldn't make much sense in that regard.
The store page (https://greaterthangames.com/store/oversized-villain-character-cards) says both that the oversized card pack contains all non-Vengeance-style villains and promos up through Wrath of the Cosmos, and that it contains all non-Vengeance-style villains ever. Those statements suggest that there actually won’t be any other non-Vengeance villains after Villains.
It could be argued Chokepoint's entire deck is actually a massive variant of her original Choke card…
Quite true.
It says "This set contains an oversized card for every villain which will ever be printed (other than those which come with their own oversized cards, such as the Vengeance villains)." Emphasis mine. I see no mention of "contains all non-Vengeance-style villains". To me, that suggests the final expansion will have its own Oversized cards, not necessarily that it will be Vengeace style.
We also know that the final expansion, like Vengeance did, will introduce different play style to the game. We have no idea how though.
We know that every hero will have a variant character card, but that not all villains will.
Campaign/story mode?
Please?
I would suggest staying tuned for the Sentinels RPG.
Mmmmmm....okay.
That’s a fair interpretation, too. I hope so, as I strongly prefer standard format villains to Vengeance style villains.
Does anyone have any information links on this last expansion? I've heard nothing about it, and would love to see what might be speculated or hinted at.
I'm presuming it'll have that cosmic end-boss villain that's been alluded to in other villains (like Cosmic Omnitron and Deadline).
I've assumed its going to basically be a Coming of Galactus homage. The main thing I wonder about is the hinted at "new play mode". Maybe the ability to swap out fallen heroes? Perhaps a 3+ "sided" villain?
Or possibly facing two villains at the same time (i.e. Galactus and his Herald) - Not just two character cards sharing a deck (like The Chairman & Operative) or mini-decks (like Vengance), but two full villain decks.
I could see their gameplay working like Challenge Mode Agent of Gloom Spite. Face the herald and then immediately fight the Cosmic Entity.
A villain with multiple modes in a game would be awesome.
What I think would be neat is some kind of mechanic for some of the previous villains to help you in some way. It fits with the comic book storyline -- like how the Justice League and Legion of Doom team up in the last episode of JLU.
I want a villain that comes on a mobius strip.
Or have villain cubes.
If you're going to go in that direction, we might as well just go right to villain orbs.
Isn't Progeny the "herald"?
Yup. I expect that the Cosmic Entity will probably have lesser versions of Progeny as minion cards.
I would hope not. I don't want more of what we have already seen.
Personally, I'm hoping to see a new version of Baron Blade involved in the finale. I could totally see Blade seizing some cosmic power or artifac for himself and becoming a much bigger threat than we've ever seen him as before, and it's got great comic book parallels to Doom stealing the power from the Silver Surfer and the Beyonder (I think Lex has occassionally attempted it as well). Plus, it'd be great for the signature villian of the game to turn into something really, really tough.
A more dangerous Baron Blade would be a fantastic idea!
YEEEEAAAAAAAAH
That would be awesome. Could also explain younger Blade from Tactics.
Search the forums for any of my "Footenotes" threads. The majority of them are longform considerations and theories I have had over the years that tie into who the "big bad" might be
Following our recent patterns with Wrath of the Cosmos/Villains of the Multiverse, I think it's safe to say we'll find out more in January.
Maybe the Super bad will be like the video varient unlocks, you have to defeat each stage of the super villian in a special way. Also has anyone considered the special play style is maybe more than 5 hero's? A supervillian that you need 8 to 10 hero's to have a chance at.
At some point, they just have to stay within the confines of the game they defined. Part of the great thing about Sentinels is that - even without Vengeance style - it allows tremendous variety within its set format. The more any particular villain deviates from that format, the more that villain might as well just be part of a different game entirely. So I don’t see the final villain requiring tons of heroes or anything like that.
EDIT: In the interest of contributing something more substantive and fun to the discussion, what about a villain that acts like a more extreme version of Plague Rat? Say, the villain deck has a few of these in it:
TURN
Ongoing
When this card enters play, select a player through some largely random mechanism.Treat all of that player’s cards as if they have the keyword Villain.
Treat all other players’ cards as Hero cards.
That player would then face a dilemma…continue to help the heroes, even as they take damage as part of “all villain targets,” or try to force a condition that causes the heroes to lose, thus winning themselves.
I will call this hypothetical villain “Palpatine.”
Bringing this thread back to the original topic of Villain variants, I know that we're not likely to see more, but I'd love it if the final expansion would include variants for Voss and Dawn so that all of the original four villains from the basic set have variants.
