Unity vs Apostate in the Wagner Mars Base
Things got a little dicey at first. Meteor Storm was the first environment card out, so I figured I'd let it stay out until Unity built up. Because of Tome of the Unknowable, Apostate was playing a card every time I drew, but I figured so what? When all of Unity's bots were out I'd bring down Meteor Storm and get in enough damage against the relics that I'd be way ahead.
What I failed to account for, though, was Apocalypse. Apostate had been building up faster than Unity and all of a sudden I was faced with losing everything I'd built, AND losing the protection of the Meteor Storm.
I was able to find a way out, though. One of the other heroes sacrificed their turn to bring down the Meteor Storm, Unity used a Brainstorm to take out Bee Bot in order to destroy Apocalypse, and also hit Cryo Bot to do a triple-boosted (Galvanize, Inspiring Prescence, Champion Bot) hit against all the other relics and Imps. By ordering hits carefully, I was able to take out most of Apostate's cards and then rely on an environment card (Fire in the Biosphere, I think) to take out everything else that mattered, keeping all of those relics from chaining themselves back out of the trash. At the same time a Mega Computer and Stealth Bot kept any damage from hitting the heroes.
From there it was a walkover. Apostate got in a couple of licks and I had to work around the Orb, but in the remaining two or three rounds Unity got out virtually every one of her bots and destroyed Apostate while the heroes were all at 20+ HP. Legacy used Take Down to slow Apostate. Visionary used Mass Levitation to neuter the environment. Wraith used Infrared Eyepiece to reduce Apostate's damage and Stealth to tank. Argent Adept gave Unity out of turn card plays while giving Visionary the ability to give Unity out of turn card draws, AND healing himself so he could also tank.
Look, it's not surprising that this team does well. Wraith is considered overpowered by many amd five heroes usually have a much easier time of it against most villains. Still, I find this a lot of fun. I think it's because I love Unity getting out all of her bots and I love the various shenanigans one can play with all of the support characters working together.
This is mostly a pretty slow build team. It might be interesting to see how they do against Mad Bomber Blade ...
