Here is a challenge…
We decide to battle La Capitan in Silver Gulch. This should be a terrific fight with time travel shenanigan themes, right?
The heroes are, in player order, Visionary, Unity, Expatriette, and The Wraith.
Embarrassment number the first: these are terrible choices for battling La Capitan. Visionary’s abilities are nerfed by the timeship, though bots are immune to plunder they can still be stolen by destruction, and the other two are equipment-heavy. On the face of it any of these heroes should be good, but…
Embarrassment number B: La Capitan’s top cards of her deck are, in order:
The Amazing Mable
Raiding Party
Final Breath
Battle Forged
Siege Breaker
So, yes…she will be playing three cards per turn now.
We spent a while losing. The most amazing thing is that we were playing with two beginners, and after beating up Baron Blade shortly before this match, they weren’t put off! They liked that you win some and you lose some. Though my fiancee and I kept apologizing for Maria’s uncharacteristic behavior… (We punished her later, with Legacy, Team Leader Tachyon, the Sentinels, and Ra.)

I'm not sure I would consider that embarrassing. If La Capitan gets rolling I'm not sure there are a lot of times to counter her. Also, Viz is not neutered in this as you can at least determine the first card played and if you can keep the ship out of play then she can setup the one card La Capitan will play.

The trouble with the ship and Visionary is the start-of-turn shuffling, not the extra card play. Anything she sees gets scrambled!

Wasn't thinking about that part. Just more incentive to get rid of the pesky boat.

I wouldn't say it was an embarrassment to get your arse handed to you on a plate by La Capitan - she frequently does that to us, as does Kismet though both are supposedly not overly difficult, lol. That said, we do have times when we beat them fairly easily but those seem to be overshadowed by the times when we, er, don't, lol ;).

Yeah, some of the villains are not really too true to their difficulty. I still have trouble believing Cosmitron is a 2

It's a consistency thing, I think -- the higher difficulty villains seem to have a lot of cards that are moderately bad and a few that are a little worse. The lower difficulty villains mostly have cards that aren't all that rough, but have two or three that are devastating (Technological Singularity, Seditive Darts and Devious Disruption, I'm looking at you and glaring).
Like take The Chairman -- does a lot of damage, mostly. A lot of damage. But that's more or less it -- very little ongoing/equipment destruction, doesn't constrict what you can or can't do. So if you're equipped to deal with the damage in some way, you can handle him. Legacy can single-handedly render the Chairman's entire deck harmless, for instance.
Matriarch is similar -- if you can consistently keep her from doing retribution damage, you've pretty much already won.
Then you have Baron Blade, whose cards are varied -- he does damage, too, but not on the same scale, and has more things constricting you (Ongoings and Targets that redirect or counterattack), and works toward his instant-lose condition. They tend not to build on one another, and you can deal with each as they come up fairly simply. And then he has Devious Disruption, which in my experience might as well read, "Wipe out all your ongoings and equipment, or you lose via TPK."
Omnitron, similarly, splits it up, but takes away the option -- you'll be rebuilding from scratch and probably down a character if he happens to draw up both Seditive Darts and Singularity in one turn -- and I've had Wraith wiped out completely by singularity.

And then, of course, there's the army of citizens backed up by the power of That Card...

I'll have to try this and see the disaster. I'm wanting to do some Time Travel themed games!
