Number of simultaneous games at home

Thought exercise: Using only items you have in your home, how many simultaneous games of Sentinels of the Multiverse could be played in your home?

For the purpose of this exercise, you may not use a writing implement to keep score, so if you don't have tokens, dice, spinners, a collection of pennies, Sentinel Sidekick, or something else, you wouldn't be able to keep score for the game.

You also need to have the physical space to play the game. You can play on the floor if you want to, but you can't significantly rearrange your furniture -- no piling dressers onto beds to make more floor space, for instance, but if you think you can play on the bed, fair enough. I'm sure I wouldn't be comfortable sitting sideways on a bed to play a game, but I'm sure others would be.

I have three copies of the game in the house. Two of them have just the base ten heroes. The other has every hero, plus two spare Legacy decks. (I also have a fourth copy in my car, but I'm not counting that). The two copies that have just the base ten heroes are original edition, not EE, but I'm willing to count them. That makes a total of 48 hero decks. Using three heroes per game would be 16 games. I've also got a laptop and a desktop that both have access to the video game via Steam, so 18 total.

Do I have enough tokens, etc. for that? The video games don't need them. Counting conservatively, I've got enough tokens for two games and enough dice for three. I've got Sidekick on my phone. That leaves ten games that I'd need to come up with a way to count HP, but I've also got a pretty extensive stash of coins. Like, over a hundred dollars in dimes, for instance, so I'm pretty confident that I could count HP for ten more games.

I think the limiting factor is going to be space. Maybe two games at the dining room table and one more at each of the card tables. I'd have to scavenge every chair in the house to do that, plus a gnarly one that's been sitting on the back porch for 15 years. The two computer games don't need much space, but that leaves twelve other card games having to go somewhere. Maybe two on the floor in the living room. One on the floor in the dining room. One in the spare bedroom. Two in the master bedroom. Two on the floor in the loft. That's eight. Four games are left with nowhere to go. 

So, 14 total. That would be 38 people in my house. Whew. Doubt we've ever had more than 20 at a time before.

Um...  Does a computer and a printer count?  I could presumably create a ton of decks by printing them out and then using them...

I've got EE, RC/IR, TC, WCos, and Guise.  That's 17 heroes, for 5 games.  Plus Steam.  Can multiple computers using the same Steam account play the same game at once?  If so, my family has got 3 computers that could play it.  So 8 games total.  Space isn't a problem - my family has an enormous house.  Tokens aren't a problem either - one of my hobbies is making paper stars, and I have over 25,000, in various colors.  

Hm… Legacy doesn't have any deck searchers, and very little card draw.  Pair him with villains and environments that don't mill cards from hero decks and play quickly (for example Iron Legacy and Infinitor), and seperate him from heros that allow him extra card draw (Vis or AA) and you could very easily split his deck in two and have Legacy and Young Legacy playing at the same time without any danger of running out of cards.  So I'm going to bump that to 9 games.

I would say yes, but that you have to proxy them properly using sleeves and cards from some other game.

Of course, if we allow proxies then you could theoretically play an arbitrarily large number of games using spreadsheets and a random number generator.  So maybe we should disallow those.

I don't feel like turning on my Laptop to double check if they were all connected to the internet (I want to say no). However, if all but a maximum of 1 is diconnected, they can certainly run it.

I have the original edition, Enhanced Edition, all expansions, and 2 computers to run the video game. By my calculations, I should be able to run 14 games. The vast majority of the games would be played on the floor. This is assuming I will be the one playing them all solo. It's tempting to do… Though a 5 year old kid coming down here wouldn't be a very good outcome.

Hmm... I've got the EE with all expansions, which gives me 26 heroes, so 8 games using cards. I've been gaming for about 3 decades now, so I've got a ton of dice to use to measure life totals. 

I have the video game on Steam and on my tablet, so two more electronic games. 

Altogether, I can run 10 simultaneous Sentinels games with the materials on hand. However, I think I've only got enough table & floor space to have at most 6 games running at once (2 of which would be on the floor in the spare room), plus couch space for the people playing on my laptop & tablet, so 8 games simultaneously.

I've got EE plus all expansions, plus cauldron experimental, and my own fan made set. So 40 heroes. I also have it on my iPad. That's 14 games at 3 heroes each. I collect dice so I have plenty to cover the games. Space is no longer an issue since I just moved into a new apt which has a rec room that makes up half the apt size. Will have to use the floor since I only currently have 2 tables.

Based on space and what I have only four games could occur at the same time.   Two of the physical game at the same large table we have but they would have to be all playing different heroes/villains/environments.  The third game could be done on my computer and a fourth one on my iPad.  

To maximize games, make each game only 3 heroes (except on the apps).  There are 23 total heroes if you have no extra decks, so one game can have 5 or two can have 4.  That's 7 games (plenty of villains/environments for that).  Add 1 game on Steam and 1 on my iPad.  If I don't print out any more decks, that's 9 games total.

Edit: Oh.  Wait.  I have some promos and an extra Wrath of the Cosmos I am holding on to for a friend.  If I added that, there's 1 more game (Guies, Captain Cosmic, Sky-Scraper).  Though I would feel bad opening stuff I got for them.

Edit 2:  Doh!  I was using Sentinels Sidekick to count the heroes I could choose, and I forgot 3 were already chosen.  So, yeah.  26 heroes.  8 games of 3, 2 heroes left over.  Plust Steam and tablet for 10.  If I added my home-brew heroes, that would go up a bit more.

Ha! I'm so pleased that other people wanted to count the same weird thing I did! I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose, that people who like SotM enjoy counting things.

Also, being a snooty GtG purist, I'd argue against using non-GtG decks. On the other hand, in the spirit of SotM, if it makes you happy, do what you want!

Between various rooms, I've probably got enough table space to fit 5 games (6 or 7 if I clear off my workbench). I could fit one more if I clear off the table that I use to augment my kitchen counter. The last game or two get played on the floor.

Just a question. Why do you keep a legacy deck in you car?

I can see why you read it that way, but Andy meant that he has a fourth set of Sentinels in his car. It's a demo set he takes with him when he's out-and-about, just in case; never know when someone might need to learn about the game.

Chairs, who needs 'em? On the floor with you, chaps! If we deck-share then we can double the number of games (yeah, I know, but it would still be mostly playable at least with most heroes). There are enough promo cards to run the same hero twice after all. Oh, plus I have an extra Legacy deck that I once bought on the whim of trying out a father & daughter game so there's an extra player I can accomodate right there.

HP markers could be a problem unless I raid the cutlery drawer or something. I tried to use cats as HP markers but quickly ran out. Plus, they wouldn't stay put so I got all confused and had to abandon the game. Oho, I can pinch some fo the kids Lego bricks - problem solved!

More importantly though, the missus is going to be royally annoyed when she gets home to find all these people covering every inch of floor space with Sentinels cards and Lego bricks.
