Killing ongoings is a must, as is deck control. For these, either Visionary or Nightmist make for great additions.
One of the easier ways to kill Iron Legacy is through a single "Nova" turn. Fanatic, Tachyon, Haka, and Bunker all have solid "nova" options, with Tachyon's being the most likely to appear.
Damage mitigation is also quite important, as IL hits like a mack-truck. The Scholar and The Naturalist both have great tanking options that can help turn the tide.
A solid 4 man team? Try The Scholar, Fanatic, Chrono Ranger, and Nightmist. The Scholar can spend the majority of the combat in Flesh to Iron, Chrono-Ranger can up your damage output while slowly chipping away at IL's health. Nightmist can focus on deck control and damage redirection using Mistbound and Amulet of the Elder Gods, while Fanatic can be your "wild card", taking out ongoings with Consecrated Ground (and End of Days, perhaps) and dealing damage where possible.
Fanatic can be a major contributory factor in taking down Iron Legacy, though you are sort of reliant on two particular cards. A first-turn (or ASAP if not) End of Days is super-useful (less so if there are any copies of Galvanised out since you can't do anything about them but at least you can take care of everything else), and then once a bit of damage has been done over the next few turns you should be able to one-shot him with Wrathful Retribution. You know, the card Fanatic only has one copy of in her whole deck ;). I have done this (not against the Advanced version, admittedly), with a first-turn EoD and a Wrathful Retribution a couple of turns later and it was most excellent ;).
Parse is gold vs Iron Legacy. She can dodge the indestructible Galvanized with Buffer Overflow and Updated Intel, she can stack his deck with Extrasensory Awareness and she has reliable ongoing destruction with Segmentation Fault + Data-Mining. She can also build up a nuke with Critical Multiplier to take him out in one turn.
Just bring along someone to soak and/or accelerate Parse and you'll be fine.
You should bring women too. And non-gendered aliens.
This is a good rule for every day life.
When I'll do my first Advanced Challenge Mode Iron Legacy I'll bring with me:
TLT: Hypersonic assault: If your not dealing damage they are not irreducible, needed card draw good burst damage as you will want to take him out in one round
Redeemer Fanatic: Gave me my fastest game ever with a round and 2 player turns win wrathfull retribution sure is not reliable but can be turn his greatest strenght in a weakness, you also get nice tools in EoD and Consacrated Grounds in helping getting those pesky ongoings down. The extra draw from your power will be useful to get and fuel your key cards.
Tempest: A card that destroys 2 ongoings, good complementary burst damage, reclaim from the deep can help bring back the cards you needed like Hypersonic assault for a recylcled rerun and if all else fails you can use your incap to give immune melee to your teammates buying precious time
EoW Bunker or Rook City Wraith: You either get 9 cards that can destroy ongoings almost 25% of your deck and the ability to pump out the hurt at once with an omni-cannon, depending on your strategy jamming up the environnment can also be invaluable. Or you get Grappling Hook, the invaluable Throat Jab and a way to cheap out the environnment.
PW:Argent Adept: You will suffer as low hp can hurt but you'll get a reliable ongoing destruction in a power, the ability to play to the strenght of your team-mates and Vernal Sonata to help Tempest on the recylcled rerun of your best cards
When all is said and done the easy fight if you pick your fignting ground is Wagner Mars Base hide behind a meteor storm and one shot iron legacy when ready. RC:Wraith can bring that earlier for you. Iron Legacy can't destroy the environnment so this plan is pretty much the easy sucker punch. If you want more interesting playgrounds you can also go for funky plans like Visionnary and Ra and by combining Twist the Ether and Flesh of the Sun God sing "Dance into the fire" as you safely kick the crap out of him.
Whatever plan you use just know that trying to tank out Iron Legs is an uphill battle and that you can always manage surprinsing strategys with surprising heroes like the time we synchronised 3 rounds of you cannot deal damage on iron legacy so I could use unity<s bot in the fight getting a raptor bot win on iron legacy is it's own kind of satisfying.

Things you want:
1. Ongoing Destruction
2. Damage that is good but not reliant on shots of 5 or higher.
3. Damage Prevention and redirection: these are huge, it's a low total damage race, a swing of 4-6 points of damage can be all you need to win.
4. Ways to get around reduction if you can't clear the field.
5. Card draw/searching.
Heroes that work well:
1. Nightmist. Nightmist is awesome vs. IL, her card draw, ongoing destruction and damage are good, and Amulet is huge if you get it. Mistbound is a great card play as well.
2. Tachyon. The destruction is big and LSB is great if you can get enough cards in your trash. Synaptic is awesome, if you can get it out of the trash and reuse it, the best way to hurt IL is with his own fist. Hypersonic Assault rules if you can get it to deal damage to him. TLT was the pinnacle in this fight, because card draw is so big in a short fight, but SST puts cards in the trash so fast she trumps TLT.
3. Fanatic. So much awesome in her deck, just let it out.
4. Fixer. Yep. I love Fixer vs. IL. Mantis/Tiger/Crane all great vs. IL. he does enough shots of 2 damage that I take Fixer against him on advanced. Also Grease Gun. Because Grease Gun is the bomb. Mantis is actually a great offensive card in this match if you have team mates that have extra pings of damage that need a second target, because you can turn it back on IL to double up damage, and it is awesome with Nightmist and her Oblivions. Bloody Knuckles plus riveting crane is often a great way to set up your team to end the match, usually at the cost of your own life, but hey, it happens.
5. Legacy. Lead from the Front-Next Evolution is amazing in this game. Just stop the melee damage and all he can do is play cards, which you can delay with takedown.
6. Tempest. Ball Lightning loves Iron Legacy. It sits in the box constantly dreaming of the day when it gets to crush Iron Legacy. Shackles, Cyclone, Shielding Winds actually being useful, it is just too much to pass on. Tempest is awesome. He dies fast though, which just lets him make heroes immune to melee damage, which in this fight is Crushing to the Legacy.
7. Wraith: Stun Bolts, Smoke Bombs, Throat Punch, Grappling Hook, combat stance. All great cards.
8. Parse: Destruction and the irreducible damage. Yeah! A good starting hand for Parse crushes IL.
All of the other ones can work too, I've had games where Expat and Adept are the reoason we beat IL, even have beat IL with Unity. Try some of the suggested ones then branch out, just make sure you have the desired abilities on your team.
I actually find Parse is actually much, much less effective than you'd think, because her *real* talent is to completely shut down combo-based villains. Looking at Legacy's deck is almost pointless, because all of his cards are standalone brutal. "Hey guys, would you rather all take five damage and destroy two ongoings, or half of us take damage and everyone discards two?"
She's still good to have around though.
Deck manipulation isn't great against IL, but PArse's ignoring of his reduction, and the destruction of ongoings is no joke. She also has a lot of ongoings to put in play to get ahead of IL's destruction.
I still havent done the 2 hero challenge in the original challenges, i might try it with Iron Legacy with Rook City Wraith and TLT on mars just for the heck of it
The Sentinels are actually surprisingly good against Iron Legacy, because they render the Hero team largely immune to Beat Down.
I will be trying it this evening. We will see how it goes. Sounds like Tempest, Nightmist, Parse and TLT are worthwile attempts.
A team I've had success beating quite a few advanced challenge mode villains (normal Blade, Ennead, Dawn, Apostate) always contains Parse and Chrono-Ranger, with some of the following mixed in depending on the villain: Legacy, TLTachyon, The Scholar, Guise, Sky-Scraper, Ra (for the Ennead), Visionary (for Blade), and Omni-X. I'd recommend Parse, Chrono, TLTachyon, and Legacy as a solid team. Don't feel like participating, but that's a solid suggestion if anyone wants to use it.
Why chrono? He always seems to just do a small amount of damage and not much else.
Because CR becomes crazy with a few damage boosters out there, and Legacy is very good at damage boosting. Throw in Parse's Reveal the Flaws to remove damage reduction, and suddenly every 1 damage ping that Chronoranger does deals 4 or 5 damage, and a good turn can have Chronoranger dealing 4 or 5 pings.
Have you ever PLAYED as Chrono-Ranger, bshugg? In our game with Dawn, he did 40 damage to her in one turn, plus another 24 out of turn in the same round. And Legacy wasn’t even there for that one. That’s just his own buffs (plus a 4-point critical multiplier) at work.
He starts off small, sure, but once he builds up he gets RIDICULOUS.
Certainly agree on that - Jim's damage can get ridiculous once he gets going, even with no outside buffs. The Compounded Bow shooting someone with By Any Means and Ultimate Target on them deals 3+3 damage, and with Ultimate Target you usually get to do that at least a couple of times a round. It's often worth playing any old one-shot just for the damage plink once you're set up, especially if you have your Hat. With the two aforementioned Bounties and Jim's Hat and the Compounded Bow in play, that's 3 damage for the first one-shot, 3 more for the second, then 3+3 from the Bow, making nine points of damage on Jim's turn alone. When he's against Plague Rat it's even better - get him Infected while the Locus is out and you could be doing 5+5 every time you use a power (base damage+By Any Means+Ultimate Target+Nemesis+damage bonus from the Locus while Infected). If he can stay alive long enough, Jim just destroys Rat (as he should!) ;).
I've played him a few times. Usually only ends up doing 2 damage pokes most of the time. Must be doing it wrong I guess.
We didn't end up getting the match up in. Somebody got the Cauldron sets so that dominated the night. Maybe next time. Cauldron is really sweet!
If you want to read through a forum game you can look over here and see Chrono-Ranger and Plague Rat tearing great chunks out of one another in a very short amount of time!
