Not actually for the RPG itself, but this is arguably the most-read board on this site and it is tied to RPG KS fulfillment, so - look what just popped up on DTRPG:

Sentinel Choices: DiskDriver Raid

No preview, which is unhelpful, but at least it’s something. It was mentioned yesterday on the Kickstarter page, but i assume few people check that regularly at this point.

Yeah, hoping to get some time to look at this, but I’ll admit: It’s hard to get over my disappointment it’s not more SCRPG content. :pensive:

(Mind you, I knew what it was, so this isn’t a surprise. I just would have loved and likely used more RPG content, whereas I’m not as likely to use this.)

Not disagreeing, but I have been considering doing more solo roleplaying of late, something I’ve largely ignored since the mid-1980s. So it might be of some use to me, maybe.

There’s a lot of competition out there for quality solos though, so perhaps not. It can wait until I see some proper reviews and people vouching for it.

Yeah, I agree that it’s not as exciting as an actual SCRPG thing, but hey—this still feels a little like something of a momentous milestone, right? When was the last time the Kickstarter actually produced something? It was The Guise Book, right?

There’s little reason, of course, to be particularly optimistic at this point, but hey, maybe this is a sign that there’s more coming.

At any rate—the first question I have is, are DiskDriver, Squeezeplay, Vaporwave, and The Forgotten actual characters in Sentinel Comics? If so, I’d imagine that they’re post-OblivAeon characters. I wonder if any of the heroes are connected to GLOBAL, Freedom Academy, Dark Watch, et cetera…

I think so. The few adventures we’ve seen since then weren’t part of the KS itself, just annual releases to have something new around GenCon IIRC, and the remastered starter set was its own thing.

Not sure, but none of them are familiar to me from the period where I was still listening to their podcasts. Most likely they are, but from the RPG’s post-Oblivaeon era, which hasn’t had much worldbuilding done for it AFAIK.

EDIT: One of the KS backers informs me that the characters all appear to be brand new (no stats for the RPG, just for the “Choices” system), all the art is B&W sketch work, and the adventure is set in the “RPG Era” but has little connection to the overall setting. Not 100% confident in that last bit since they hadn’t read through all the paragraphs yet.

I skimmed the rules; The sketches are a bit… bland?

I was pleased to see something new at all…
but I’m a bit cool towards it…

That’s correct. Apparently this was a conscious choice 1. to make the zine seem more like a fan thing and 2. so more was left to the players’ imagination or something. Iirc Adam himself wasn’t enjoying doing them that much because it was a task wayyyy below his skill level.

I am 100% confused about whether any of this is canon or not.
It looks like a fanzine but C&A stated they wouldn’t do “canonical” Metaverse fanmade content because that’s what irl fans should do. No idea where that leaves this story and its characters.

Cripes. If the cover is any indication, that’s just condescending toward the entire fanzine community. Is that what they think fan product looks like in 2026? When things like Dolmenwood and Mothership and the endless “Mork Game” stuff at least started out as zines that put many professionally published products to shame? There’s a lot of serious creative talent out there these days sticking to zine formats and making it work.

It’s not even an accurate representation of the quality of more run-of-the-mill zines, and it’s real easy to prove that. Go over to DTRGP, set your filters to “mags & zines” (under the “product type” tab) and scroll through the new releases. You’ll find Sentinel Choices there all right - and even digging back for months, I see precious few other things with worse presentation. The unfinished sketch art cover is almost uniquely lazy looking, and even makes zines that just gave up and didn’t have cover art at all look good by comparison.

I can certainly see why. If the assignment was to look painfully amateurish, he succeeded all too well.

They’re not seriously considering doing physical print runs of the zine in its current state, are they? If so, it’s not hard to predict what a sales debacle that will be, especially with much of the target audience already getting theirs free through the KS.

I don’t think it’s supposed to look like zines do today but rather how people remember them from their teenage days. I can’t recall where exactly but I seem to remember them talking about things that got traded on the school yard back in the day.

So far the… interesting art choices have distracted me from the actual product because who knows, maybe there is something interesting in that system they came up with?

I have to admit I am glad they finally published this thing, but not because I am actually interested in it but so they can finally start working on the rest of the Kickstarter products.

And this is from someone who considers themself a Sentinels fan - not sure who else this zine is for tbh but I would genuinely love to hear what people think.
