[Max] and [Min] in dice pools - refer to the number or the polyhedron?

Hi all! I took a look around this forum but couldn't seem to find an answer, so I had to make an account just to get some clarification in advance of me running the SCRPG for the first time tomorrow.

In the Urban Infestation one-shot, referring to Myriad creating minions, his Release the Swarm ability says "create [Max] minions of size [Min]"

If this is done, I assume the following results would be interpreted thus;

Roll of d4=2, d6=3, d12=4* would create 4 minions of size d4

Roll of d6=2, d12 = 3, d4=4 would create 4 minions of size d6

Roll of d12=2, d6=3, d4=4 would create 4 minions of size d12

OR would the [Max] refer to the smallest dice roll that could give that result, so a low-rolling [Max] with a d12 doesn't neccesarily mean the spawning of super-hardcore minions, and all the results above would give 4 minions of size d4? This lines up with Lieutenants having a "value" equal to the maximum size of their dice, double of which is the damage needed to remove them without a save.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not sure it hugely matters as long as it's played consistently, but I am curious what the consensus is.

*Of course, this dice pool was invented to illustrate the example

In this case, the key word is 'size'. Max, Mid, and Min normally are used to refer to which die in the pool is being used for an effect. Since the ability states that it makes Max minions of size Min, we know that it make a number of minions equal to the Max die, determined as normal. Since it specifies the size of the Min die, once you determine the Min die, you use the die size of the Min die as the starting die size for the minions.
