Villain ability rules clarification

This came in a game recently can a villain use "Prey on the Weak" on a minion. The rules text says: "Attack and Hinder using [quality]. If the target has: a d6 or  less
status die, use your Max+Min dice; a d8 status die, use your Max die; larger than a d8, use your Mid die." Since minions don't have status dice can you not target them with this ability? Do you just use the minions die size? 

I'd say you treat their die size as their status for those purposes.
