From the Experimentation Power Source, there is a Yellow Zone Reaction Ability called Misdirection.
Misdirection(R): When a nearby hero in the Yellow or Red zone would take damage, Defend against that damage by rolling your single [power] die, then redirect any remaining damage to a nearby minion of your choice.
If one is to activate Misdirection, does there need to be a minion to redirect the potential remaining damage into?

It's unclear what happens if there is no Minion. I'd rule that it it essentially prevents the damage from an attack on a nearby hero.

I agree. The usual rule in games like these is "follow all the instructions you can." It doesn't say there has to be a minion. If it did, it should have said, "...then choose a nearby minion. Redirect any remaining damage to that minion."
