Hello,

i'm new in this Comic Multiverse, a game master and i played the free to play issues. One of my playergroups (i have 3 at the moment) managed to get stuck into the void with a selfcreated atombomb. The purpouse of the bomb was to destroy the crystal in the second issue, before they entering the portal, so I allowed it (they didn't know about the crystal, but they know about a strong power). They also managed to get Visonary get stucked with them in the void, because of the great succes I allowed that to (They want her to help them there, she attacked everyone because she was furious after this decision). After they destroyed the crystal, without the bomb, I made up a portalstream from the void into the three regions (russia, egypt, isla). The heroes didn't know where this portalstreams are going and just feel the regions temperature (cold, hot, warm). The partymember with the bomb decided it's for the best to activate and throw the bomb into the cold stream. He want to get rid of the bomb, so it can't explode with them. And now the bomb will be explode in russia. I will play the egypt part normaly, but I'm not sure about the rest. Because I think my heroes have to face the consequences, but will I start a nuclear war between russia and america or not? I mean I don't know this gameworld good enought to know what are the consequences of such act. And I know the heroes did'nt intend to do evil. But I think something should happen. I will gladly make my own issues for that, but I want to ask for advice or some references to the world and the worlds behavior. Thank you.

Tl,dr:

My heroes drop accidentally an atombomb into a portal to russia, how to proceed?

Alright, here is how i would do it.

Normally in issue taking place in Russia, there is a chance of a nuclear detonation from the power plant. I would change it so that there is now a chance of nuclear detonation from the bomb coming though the portal.

When the player tossed the about to explode bomb into the portal going to russia, it didn't come out of the portal on the other side right away because the depleted OblivAeon shards is making the portal all weird. But it is going to come out of the portal at some time in the future. And looking though the portal they just came out of, that time is going to be soon, because they can see the bomb following them.

So the players need to get to the OblivAeon shard and deal with it which will let the Visionary or whoever close the portal and have the bomb go off in the Void.

Just a few friendly suggestions on the way I tend to handle things like this:

- The bomb goes through the portal, but nothing happens. The team learns that the bomb definitely ended up in Russia, definitely should have exploded, but they can't find any evidence that it did. They realize that someone stopped the bomb, and now that Someone is very interested in who dropped a bomb in Russia. This could involve the team Perestroika, or just a random Russian villain you invent.

- The bomb goes off in a remote part of Russia. However, since there's no clear source of the bomb - no plane, no missile, etc - the world blames something/someone else - aliens, Oblivaeon, the Citizens of the Sun, etc. The team has to find a way to either keep the world ignorant or inform the world that it was their fault.

- The bomb goes off in a remote part of Russia, creating a super-threat (kaiju!) that is now a new problem for the players. Also, possibly Russia/the world is kind of mad at them for that whole thing.

This isn't really about "the world of Sentinels comics" so much as just how you can avoid worrying about world politics and global nuclear war in a globe-spanning role-playing game involved super-powered people. ;-)

I know that it's probably way too late, but the way I would've handled it was to have them roll an Overcome for disposing of the bomb, with the mandate that any resulting Twist would be a story twist for later.  That way the players feel like they still have agency, and the players (though not the characters) get foreshadowing as far as how annoying the consequences should be.  Plus it gives you some kind of guideline for how annoying to make said consequences!

I think the already mentioned suggestions of having the blast just so happen to further destabalize the russian power plant (again, to what degree being based on Twist severity) is the best way to go here.
