Arc Name: All For One
Style: Four-color, technology-based, investigative
One-Sentence Summary: A chemical sale gone wrong leads to a greater conspiracy, mind-control, and so much worse...
Issue 1 Title: Special Delivery
Issue 1 Plot: The Heroes enter in a stakeout on a Rook City logistics warehouse, where White Rabbit and several of her henchmen await a buyer for several tanks of unlabeled chemicals. However, as a box truck pulls up, it swiftly becomes apparent that these are not the people that White Rabbit had expected; rather, they are a set of hired goons armed with high-tech armor and blasters, led by the known mercenary Jadwiga Madman. Combat ensues, though in the chaos, the box truck speeds off, having stolen the majority of the chemicals.
Issue 1 Antagonists: White Rabbit (post #311); Jadwiga Madman (#540)
Issue 1 Complications: Fire/explosion in the warehouse; collapsing crates providing obstacles/cover; chemical leak with debilitating poison
Issue 2 Title: Missing Pieces
Issue 2 Plot: As the Heroes begin questioning White Rabbit and Jadwiga Madman at Freedom Plaza/their hideout/etc., more questions than answers arrive. Jadwiga Madman claims to have been paid through numerous dummy corporations, while White Rabbit claims that she had initially negotiated the sale of the chemicals to a woman, who was certainly not Jadwiga. Analysis of the chemicals show that it is a liquid carrier for nantites colloquially referred to as Ferrous Atlium. While the tanks had no active nanites in them, the Atlium is still worth millions on its own. However, during the questioning/investigation, an alert goes up: several items are currently missing from the Freedom Plaza vaults. The trio of Masquerade, Eidolon, and Gyges have infiltrated the area, stealing several pieces of alien technology that were currently under study.
Issue 2 Antagonists: Masquerade (#103); Eidolon (#111); Gyges (#289)
Issue 2 Complications: Trainee heroes put in danger due to explosion damage; blackout in Freedom Plaza; hostage situation with support staff
Issue 3 Title: A Cry for Help
Issue 3 Plot: The Heroes receive a frantic communique from a Dr. Julian Osprey, a scientist long-rumored to have shady contacts across the world. However, as the Heroes arrive, they find Osprey very recently dead in his lab, with numerous files and samples missing. The Heroes have arrived just after Ulcer, the size-changing assassin, has slain the doctor and is in the process of collecting his accumulated information. Ulcer takes advantage of the situation and attacks the Heroes from stealth, attempting to leave no witnesses.
Issue 3 Antagonists: Dr. Julian Osprey (#577); Ulcer (#279); Lacquer (#248)
Issue 3 Complications: Ulcer has backup in the form of Lacquer; lab assistants placed in danger; Ulcer improperly activates lab equipment, which goes wild; security robots attack the 'intruders'
Issue 4 Title: Ladies' Night
Issue 4 Plot: As the Heroes begin investigating Osprey's files, it becomes clear that his work on bio-engineering microscopic mites could have ready applications for the dispersal of a nanite load on a wide scale. However, even as the Heroes begin putting together the pieces, their headquarters is smashed open by a group of attackers: the underworld team known as the Circuit Breakers: Fortress, Cherenkov, Strut, Caustic, and Adrenal. The group seems dead set on isolating and eliminating the Heroes, no matter the personal cost or injury. As the fight goes on, it quickly becomes apparent: the group is acting as if part of a hive-mind. Should the villains be defeated, investigation of their bodies demonstrates a large cluster of nanites, akin to a tumor, at the base of each of their skulls, having been initially infected by carrier dust-mites, mentioned numerous times in Osprey's research...which are likely crawling all over the Heroes even as they investigate.
Issue 4 Antagonists: Fortress (#246); Cherenkov (#263); Strut (#266); Caustic (#290); Adrenal (#303)
Issue 4 Complications: Combat with the Circuit Breakers unleashes another captured villain; an explosion puts the base in complete chaos, a gas rupture threatens to blow the building sky-high
Issue 5 Title: Quarantine
Issue 5 Plot: A cursory investigation confirms that the Heroes are now infected by the same nanite-carrying mites as the Circuit Breakers; if left for more than 48 hours, the Heroes will become thrall to the nanites' programming. Pooling their resources, the group garner the attention of Eliot Marklund of Nautilus Industries, who sends a quarantine pod to collect the Heroes and to decontaminate their base. On the Nautilus Island, Marklund works with any tech-based heroes to find a remedy, only for the laboratory to be attacked by several other villains: Erudite, Wrest, Smokescreen, and Grizzly. All four operate similarly to the Circuit-Breakers, acting as a hive mind. The Heroes must stop the attack and find a cure, even as the clock runs out on them...
Issue 5 Antagonists: Erudite (#); Wrest (#379); Smokescreen (#383); Grizzly (#440)
Issue 5 Complications: One of the experiments in Design Bay L breaks free; disrupted lab equipment opens a dimensional portal leading to the Realm of Discord
Issue 6 Title: At the Source
Issue 6 Plot: With a method of innoculating individuals against the nanite-carrying mites created, the Heroes are able to utilize Marklund's technology to trace the past coordinates of the nanites to a singular spot in the Andes Mountains. Upon investigating that 'seemingly-deserted' spot, the Heroes swiftly find a base of nanite-controlled individuals ready to take up arms. Fighting their way through the complex, however, the Heroes find a number of individuals who are not nanite-controlled, most notably, the Wagner Base scientist now known as Backup. Backup calls upon a number of allies in the ensuing fight, including several individuals who seem like Spite-clones. In the end, the Heroes prove triumphant, with a scant handful of clues seeming to indicate that Backup may merely be a piece on some larger group's chessboard.
Issue 6 Antagonists: Backup (#579); Operation Mind-Fire (#455); Torpedo (#471); Shard (#30); The Annihilationists (#116)
Issue 6 Complications: Lab fires, explosions, defensive lockdowns, brownouts, released experiments
