Freedom Five #801: Itsy Bitsy Spider Bots

Megalopolis has seen better days. Quite a few of them. Although the city survived the rampage of OblivAeon, it hasn't escaped unscathed. The area around Freedom Tower, more accurately where Freedom Tower used to be, took the heaviest beating but the rest of the city wasn't left untouched by the cosmic entity.

The government science teams are still picking through the wreckage, searching for anything that might have survived. Still wearing radiation suits against any lingering radiation, they're poring over the rubble.

Over your radios, you hear firefighter chatter as they deal with a still burning building on 5th Street, ambulances wailing as they head to 7th where a family has been pulled from the wreckage.

Still, despite this, the city remains as it always has, locals helping out, digging through shattered homes for survivors, arriving on scene with hot food for the rescue workers and firefighters, or meeting under the titanic boughs of Akash'Flora in what used to be Freedom Park and is now a city block-sized tree that other scientist teams are trying to understand.

RevoCorp has even sent the leader of their new team, the Paradigms, to help. She's due in today and it will be good to meet up with your old intern.

So, heroes, what are you doing?

Tachyon is helping to rescue people from buildings and getting them to proper emergency medical personnel.   She is explaining to them what issues they might have but is talking/moving so fast they have no idea what she said.

Bunker is currently assisting a rescue crew at the moment, either using the instruments of his suit to target weak points of collapsed structures that might break and come crashing down at any moment OR using the strength of his suit to lift heavier slabs of debris that might otherwise need a crane or some other heavy machinery. "This is a mess." he mutters to himself, making sure his mic isn't on.

As he works, he keeps in contact with the other members of the Freedom Five. "I'm almost done with the heavy lifting over on 35th and Lee. How's everyone else doing?"

The Wraith is using the Mega-Computers to try to run data analysis in looking for survivors and potential secondary disaster spots - electrical lines in danger of coming down, undetected gas/water leaks and the like.

"Tyler, it looks like when you're done there we've got a slow leak in a water main up by 9th and Grant. Traffic analysis suggests that the utility company is on it, but extra eyes on the scene might be good since there's a major freeway on-ramp nearby that we don't want to have get sapped by the drainage. Unless you'd rather hop over there, Dr. Stinson?"

Tyler smiles. "Always one step ahead of the game, Doc. I'll still make my way over just in case you need an extra set of hands. Might not get there as fast as you, though." Loading up the last chunk of larger walls onto a dumptruck and leaving a thankful word to the rescue crews, the massive metal suit loads up and starts the trek over to the freeway.

Having made his way to the fire on 5th Absolute Zero heads into the building. He triggers the opening of the aperture on his left hand and with a sharp intake of breath, a beam of cold energy shoots from his hand and puts out some of the smaller fires. Ryan giving his suit a chance to warm up before tackling the larger blaze.

In the apparent solitude of the burning building, Ryan asks over the coms "Meredith did you manage to clear out any of the civilians on 5th. Don't want to have any unseen surprises."

Cycling his coms to a more public frequency. "Cheif Jenkerson do we have any idea of the integrity of this building? Are we looking to save the building or just not let it spread?"

Legacy has been flying around, helping the assorted groups of fiefighters and officials mantain order and rescue people, and generally supervising the help efforts. Legacy thought on this that he had become more and more detached from the action and taken a supervisor's role. Oh well. He would notice the large fire and talk into his com "Frost, you need any help over there?"

"Your help is always appreciated Paul. If this doesn't go to plan I may need you to keep people clear of any debris."

With a few quick finger taps on his suits internal sensor array to do a sharp sudden exposure of Absolute Zero's forearms to allow for rapid fire suppression.

( Overcome using the Principle of Cold, Green Dice, Creativity :  5 Minor twist: Take min dice damage 2 )

With a blast of cold, the fire flares once and dies. However with his focus on the fire, Absolute Zero misses on key structural weakness in the floor beneath him. With the sudden shift in temperature, the weakness caused by the fire expands and the floor collapsing under him.

When the noise stops you hear over the coms "Well that was unpleasant"

Unity turns the corner of 8th and Grant, riding on an saurian robot.  "Whoo!  Sorry I'm late, guys.  GPS is wonky and Mr. Chomps got lost."

"Mr. Chomps" does not resemble any previous incarnation of Raptor Bot, apparently being made out of some mismatched car parts and a broken manhole cover, but it's in the same ballpark.  It steps in a sodden piece of ground and gets stuck.  Unity simply hops off and lets the bot disintegrate.

"Hi, Doc!  Good to see ya again!  Wow, what a mess, huh?  You got this one figured out yet?"

While she's talking and without waiting for a reply, Unity assembles a golem that resembles a centaur/ant with a dump truck for a back, with multiple limbs for assisting in multiple types of repair work.  (Spawn Golem: 4 Robotics, 3 Creativity, 10 Status, mid=4 for a d8 Boost Bot.)

"Frost, you alright?" asks Vance over the coms. "Sounds like you may have had a bit of trouble over there." The Bunker suit walks along whatever is the clearest path, which just so happens to be along the sidewalk at the moment. Realizing how long it will take him to get to the freeway on foot, he spots a large and empty flatbed truck just finishing dropping off suplies to a work crew. "Excuse me," he asks the driver, the suit kneeling down a few feet away from the drivers seat. "If you don't mind sparing fifteen minutes, could I ask for a lift?"

(Overcome to persuade driver to let Bunker catch a ride: Intuition=1, Self Dicipline=5, Status=8; Mid=5)

"Wow, it's Bunker!" the worker exclaims happily, her head leaning out the window, throwing a thumb towards the back of the truck. "You need a lift, I'm your gal! Hop on! You saved my brother's whole unit overseas a few years ago!"

"Glad to be of assistance, ma'am. And thank you." The large metal suit steps onto the truck's flatbed, a loud-SNAP!-heard as it take's Bunker's full weight. Inside the large metal chassi Vance sighs. "Uh-oh..." the driver says. "I think you just killed the suspension."

"Sorry about that. Have your company send the repair bills to the Freedom Five. We'll cover them." With a nod the driver starts the engine up, driving carefully down the street.

"I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, guys, but there's an impromptu Hooverville that's starting to form over by that big tree. Maybe good because it looks like it means we don't have many folks who are stuck inside damaged buildings, but maybe bad because there's a lot of them. Like, maybe as much as a tenth of the city's population, and that's really going to strain the capacity of Freedom Park to be able to shelter everybody and not run into sanitary issues."  The Wraith starts running some analysis patterns on the Mega-Computers, trying to find a set of locations that might be able to break the gathering of the homeless up into manageable pieces and locations.

"I am just fine Tylor. Just decided to take the express elevator down a floor. Could have been worse it's not like it was a trap by Citizen Summer."

Getting up from under his pile of rubble a few superficial scrapes covering his multi-million dollar suit, Absolute Zero takes in his dark surroundings. The only light coming from the sunlight from the hole above Ryan. The piping covering the wall and the boiler off to one side shows he has fallen down into this building's basement. Ryan casts a quick glance at the stairs to see they are fire damaged and wouldn't hold the weight of a chihuahua let alone him and his suit.

"Paul about that assistance. I could do with a lift out of this basement. The fire has made getting out a bit of a challenge."

As Tachyon turns to greet her former intern, the manhole she was investigating clatters open, spilling out half a dozen mailbox sized metallic creatures. Four spindly legs scrabble on the tarmac as they turn unblinking red eyes toward the two heroes. Mandibles clack ominously as they advacne in waves of three.

On trio turns towards Tachyon. The one at hte back clamps its mandibles onto the manhole cover, cutting it in half and plugging the severed metal pieces into the robot ahead of it (Boost Roll 3 for +1). Aided by the influx of metal it opens a small port above its eye and fires a mesh of steel filaments at Tachyon, wrapping around one leg and making it harder to move (Hinder Roll 1+1 for boost and +1 for webbing for -1 penalty to Tachyon’s actions). The final member of the trio scuttles forward, raising its mandables and clamping down on her arm (Attack roll 6, 6 damage).

The others turn their attention to Unity. The first begins chewing on a nearby car to boost its fellow (Boost Roll 4 for +2). Its ally hurls the webbing, wrapping around Unity and Mr Chomps, binding them together as Mr Chomps falls to the ground in the mesh (Hinder Roll 6+2 Boost +1 webs for -3 penalty to Unity). The third advances, mandables biting into Unity’s shoulder (Attack Roll 5 for 5 damage).

Meanwhile, as Absolute Zero pulls himself out of the wreckage, he is confronted by a similar swarm emerging from the sewers. The first scrabbles over the fallen building, chewing brick and concrete to fuel the others (Boost Roll 1 for +1). Steel hard webbing flies out from the second robot to pin his arms to his sides (Hinder Roll 6 +1 for boost and 1 for webs, -3 to AZ). The final robot scuttles forward, sparks flying as it begins to chew on the armoured suit around Zero (Damage Roll 3, 3 damage).

As Legacy soars overhead, approaching his friend anoter trio boils out of the sewers, scrambling up the fre ravaged building towards him. Webbing flies out, round his arm as the robot tries to pull him towards the ground. (Boost Roll 2 for +1. Hinder Roll 3 for total of 5, -2 to Legacy) and the third robot leaps from the building, legs wrapping around Legacy’s chest (Damage roll 1, 1 damagej.

Meanwhile, meanhwile, across town, the truck under Bunker shudders as it rattles through the streets, the suspension complaining with every jolting pothole. Suddenly, the driver slams on the brakes. “What the hell are those?!” Bunker turns his head, sensors picking up three squat metl forms scrabbling towards him. One takes a bite out of the truck with its mandables, feeding the second at it scuttles over the cab. (Boost Roll 4 for +2). Webs  spit out pinning one of the giant suit’s legs to the bed of the truck (Hinder Roll 4 for 7, -3 to Bunker). The third clambers onto the bed of thhe truck itself, mandables digging into the metal armour. (Damage Roll 3, 3 damage)

Finally, the Wraith turns from her mega computer as she hears a metallic clicking behind her, to find herself facing a trio of her own robotic terrors. The first tears up a power cable, sparks crackling as it plugs it into one of the others (Boost Roll 2 for +1). The other spider hurls a web towards the Wraith, tangling her in its mesh. (Hinder Roll 4 +1 for webs for 5, -2 to Wraith). Still dripping sparks and moving faster than expected on its still crackling legs, the last spider rushes forward to bite at the Wraith. (Damage Roll 2 +1 for Boost, 3 damage)

With a slight grinding of servos, Absolute Zero manages to get his hand free for an Ice Blast at the bot that managed to encase him in this infernal webbing.

“Oh no! Help me out, Dump Bot!”

The bot struggles against the webs but makes little headway. (Boost: 2, reduces the Hinder by 1 to -2).

“Dump Bot, silly name. You’ll need a better one if you survive this,” Unity mutters. Glaring at the spider-bots, she puts on her meanest face.

“Let’s see how you feel about this!” Straining against the webs, she uses them as components to construct a new golem. Unfortunately, all she manages to do is tangle the webs up in a ball. It wobbles in place forlornly. Unity glares at it. (Robotics 7, Creativity 1, Status 2, -2 Hinder = 0 for a d4 attack sphere.)

(Health now 23/26; -2 to roll)

Caught by surprise, the Wraith tries to work her way way from the spider bots, flipping off of the one that snared her in the webbing to vault toward the door and land on top of the bot that was charging up the others. Along the way, she retrieves some of her throwing knives from out of the utility belt. (Agility + Close Combat + Green = 1, 4, 8, so net result = 2 after the hinder).

Unfortunately, the spider-bots turn out to have her penned into a corner. Over the comms, she calls out, "Yikes! Is anybody else dealing with these arachnid-looking bits that kind of remind me of Omnitron's old repair drones?"

[Legacy: Green Zone-32/32 HP (Fortitude reduces physical damage by 1)]

"Well, it would be good if one of you guys could save one, because once I get free, I'm taking these things down." Legacy would then get tired of resisting the robots and fly toward the building top they're pulling him into. (Risky Action, hit more than 1 target) He flies down into the two bots that are close enough together to hit easily (Boost and Hinder bots) and accidentally punches through the building they were on top of, interrupting a minor business meeting and embarrasing himself in the process. As he starts to apologize to the confused, but entertained attendees, he doesn't notice the third spider bot dropping a rock. "Ow! Where'd it get that rock from? That hurts..." he said as he flew up to the rooftops to fight the other spider-bot. (And if the other spider-bots survived, of course he's going to fling them back onto the roof before they could harm the innocent bystanders.)

[Roll: 2,4,5. Roll of 4 coming at my Spider-Bot: Boost and Spider-Bot: Hinder. I take 5-1 damage: 28HP left. (Oh, I'm rolling for the bots? If so, Hinder Bot dies and Boost bot is now a d4)]

(All right, one round down!  I'll lead off round 2.  Unity is still at 21 HP.)

Back at the water main, Unity has finally succeeded in goading her animated lump of metallic webbing into action.  It bounces on top of the nearest spider-bot and hops lethargically on top of it a couple of times.  Fortunately, the spider-bot does seem sort of fragile and is not completely unscathed by the experience.  (Attack 2, Resist 5, spider-bot reduced to d4.)

Unity grits her teeth in frustration.  "All right, that's it.  Dump-Bot, charge me up!"  The insectile golem generates a meager arc of electricity between two of its spindly "hands" and holds it up for Unity to manipulate.  (Boost: 3, +1 bonus.)

Unity stretches a hand out over the spark and channels it into the closest spider bot!  (Brain Storm, taking a minor twist to use a Yellow when she's in Green: Electricity 2+1, Technology 2+1, Status 10+1.  Resistances: 4 and 4.)  The electricity misses the critical parts of the one she aimed at, but arcs from it to the one the tumbleweed-bot was attempting to attack, destroying it (and knocking the muddled bot around like a rubber ball).  The shot then continues towards Tachyon!  Alarmed, she throws up her hands defensively, but the electricity dances around her hands, imbuing them with electrical power.  The lightning doesn't stop there, though--it then arcs into a nearby power line, causing it to flare with overflowing electricity and collapse near Unity, creating an electrical hazard she'll have to deal with....

"Oops."

(End result: Unity is now facing only one d4 minion and one d6 minion, but she's sporting a nice Downed Power Line -4 Hinder.  However, Tachyon has a Lightning Gauntlets +4 Boost she can make use of.)

(For the sake of bookkeeping: Round 2, characters remaining: Spider-Bots, Legacy, Wraith, Bunker, Tachyon, Absolute Zero.)

Bunker: The final spiderbot pauses, seeming to weigh its options, before it curls its legs under it and leaps and Bunker, legs scrabbling against his armoured frame (Damage 1)

Absolute Zero and Legacy: One robot scrapes the ice away (Boost 6 +2 to web Robot). The robot so cleared turns to follow Zero and spits webbing from its cracked casing (Hinder: 3 +2 boost +1 web -2 to Absolute Zero) and the final one uses the opportunity to bit into his outstretched arm (Damage: 4)

In the board room, the damaged robots struggle to their feet, sparks flying as they rise, one balancing on three legs, the other belching smoke from its shell as they turn towards Legacy. (Boost: 3 +1, Hinder 1 +1 Boost +1 webs=3 -1 hinder to Legacy). As the businessmen start to panic and run, the last spider-bot drops to the floor, mandables clacking at Legacy. (Damage: 3)

The Wraith: The Bot attacking the Wraith collapses in a shower of sparks after her sudden strike. The one that spun its web tries again, whipping the webbing at the Wraith, catching her cabe in the webbing (Hinder 2, for -1 penalty). The other drops its cables, scuttling forward, mandables clashing like shears as the Wraith steps out of its reach. (Damage: 3-3 defend for 0)

Tachyon and Unity: (As PowerHound  didn't roll the defence die, here they are: 2, 4, 4, 3, 2, so every single bot has failed and been destroyed. You two aren't allowed to team up anymore!!!! You're mean!) As Tachyon races around, the shockwaves send the bots flying, smashing them up against walls and into the power line, reducing them to so much scrap. (AZ starts the round at 18 HP)

As the spider bot bites into Absolutes Zero's arm it also slices through some of the cabling compressing the coolant distribution system allowing for Ryan to exert himself a little bit more.  "Ahhh that's much better" As the sudden drop in temperature makes the remaining webbing brittle allowing Ryan to just step free.

(Modular Realignment: 6-2: Boost +2)

With the coolant flow much improved Ryan feels he can chance a much larger exposure to the air in a hopes to mitigate some of the damage done to his suit as well as deal with most of these pesky robot spiders. "Have I ever told you all how much I hate evil robots? I really hate evil robots."

Extending both his arms at the spider-bots producing the webbing, Ryab triggers the shielding over his hands to withdraw suddenly creating a sudden temperature differential and with it a pressure differential sending out a blast of cold energy at the spiders not gnawing away at his suit.

(Thermal Shockwave: 5,2 on the Minions 4+2 on self. This will cause a minor twist)

The webbing apparently having more insidious effects beyond the basic bindings must have interfered with some of the targeting protocols in the suit as the bot assisting the manages to avoid the brunt of the blow at the expense of its partner. The second bot having already been damaged once is slowed just enough that the targeting protocols not working and is destroyed.

( Bot Resistance:d6:6,d4:3 )

In the bots destruction, its sharp legs fly out and puncture some of the pipes on the wall venting some of the steam from the pipes into the room obscuring vision as well as raising the temperature in the room.

(Scene End AZ HP: 24 under a -2 Hinder from the pipe puncture min+max die used)

The Wraith: Wraith dodges aside as antohe ball of webbing splatters the wall behind her, a few steel strands clinging to her side (Hinder:" , -1 penalty). Meanwhile the robot nearest to her manages to catch her thigh with te edge of its mandables scoring a thing but not deep sgash (Damage: 1)

Tachyon and Unity: Electricity continues to leap from the arcing power line, the twitching remains of the robots littering the ground, their cracked casings exposing their inner workings, smoke or sparks occasionally emerging.

“Uh, Dump-bot? A little help here?”

“A little” is exactly how much help the game but pathetic insectoid is. (1 = Hinder reduced by 1.) The little puffball also attacks one of the power lines, to no effect.

Unity tries her best to make her way to the least-demolished spider-bot to open it up and assist Tachyon with an inspection. Of course, she does it Unity-style, crafting examination tools out of the wreckage. (Hasty Augmentation: Inventions 1, Former Intern 4, Status 4, -3 = 1. [Armor Plating(+1) reduces attack down to 4. Current health: 26-4=22]

The spider-bot's blades catch underneath a plate of armor near the Bunker suit's inner arm and shoulder, catching and slicing a few wires and servos. "Oh come on!" Vance growls, red flashing on his monitors as the damage is automatically analyzed. On reflex he bats the drone away with the side of his blaster. "I just finished replacing those parts this morning!" The Riot Cannon begins to glow with blue energy, then unleashes a thunderous sound as another one of its blasts-

(As a reaction to being hit with the spider bot using modular realignment: Boost:+2, 7-1-2 Starting my turn at 22 HP)

With the repairs being made to his suit not providing as much resistance as he thought the Spiderbot's chaise smash forced the finely tuned sensors in the suit to need to be recalibrated leading to a realignment of some of the vents and coolant flows to optimize performance on his next attack.

Once the HUD in the suit sounded off that the realignment we completed Ryan wary of his earlier mistakes decides to take things one at a time blasting the last remaining webbing bot in hopes to let him devote his full attention on the spider knawing away at his armor.

(Freezer Burn:5+2-2 Bot, 2+2Self)

The steam still flowing forth from the vent aids in keeping the bot mostly intact as absolute zero doesn't aim to destroy it as much encase it in its own block of ice to prevent more explosive detonations leading to even more collateral damage.

(I shall start round 4 before I lose the Galvanize buff. HP:26)

With the encasing of the last bot. Absolute Zero finally turns his attention on to the bot that had been failing to gnaw its way through the ice and steel protecting him from the temperate if now a little humid basement air.

Chuckling to himself Ryan talks to the bot "Now don't take this personally but I think its time for you to cool off" As he places his hand on the back of the Robot and rapidly drains the heat from the spider bot. Once the heat has been absorbed into his suits system Ryan channels the resultant cold energy out to seal up the burst piping trying to mitigate the damage caused by his earlier actions.

(Taking a risky action: Using the principle of Cold to Overcome the issue of the leaking pipe whilst dealing my min dice in damage to the spider bot. Overcome: 10-2=8,2+2=4 Bot Defence: 3)

editors note: To those paying attention this may look similar to when Ryan prevented the Mobile Defense Platform's power core from overheating and dropping a ship full of explosives on to megalopolis whilst securing the entrance to the engineering bays from the incoming blade battalions. That's because he is using the upgrades to his suit from this very adventure now! If you want to relive that epic adventure see FV Annual Omnibus

With a sharp snap, the Spider-bot crystalizes from the inside out after suddenly being shown the wrong side of 3 Kelvin with the sudden influx of heat the suit enhancing Ryans natural talents thanks to Dr. Stinson's brilliance allowing him to create a layer of frost over the steam pipe that should last. At least until an engineer can turn up.

Legacy: The three legged bot spits another strand of steel webbing at Legacy (Hinder 2 for a -1 penalty) while the other bites into his cape, failing utterly to hurt him (Damage 1, -1 for Fortitude, 0 damage)

The Wraith: The lead robot tracks the Wraith’s acrobatics but its targetting sensors cannot quite keep up, its webbing just clipping her arm (Hinder 1 for -1). The other robot scuttles to catch up to her, mandables scraping her back as she tumbles away (Damage 2)

Unity notices that the spider bots contain a lot of Omnitron tech, especially in the chassis and legs armatures, but there's also some servoes from an older version of the Bunker suit, circuits that wouldn't look out of place In Baron Blade's impusion beam, some with a RevoCorp stamp on it and some of it is definitely from the Erskin-Stinson Labs.

However, as she's so engrossed by the technology, she doesn't notice that the fight has damaged one of the nearby buildings. She leaps aside as the wall collapses but flying pieces of masonry still clip the side of her head (Damage. Use Min die, so 1 damage).

As Absolute Zero and Bunker take care of the last of the Spider-Bots, your radios crackle into life with a new voice. "This is the Argent Adept. i am at Akash'Flora. There are spider-like robots swarming out of the sewers. More than I can count. They are snatching people off the streets and I cannot handle..." the transmission cuts off with a scream of pain.

(What? You thought a couple of spider-bots was the extent of my evil scheme?)

(If anyone is concerned with their health, RevoCorp can fix you right up. They've got an emergency medical centre nearby. But doing so will consume your actions for the first round)

As you approach the gigantic flowing boughs of Akash'Flora, you hear the sound of frantic screams and a now familiar whirring and clacking of metal legs on concrete. Rounding the corner into the park, smoke rises up through the green leaves, a shifting carpet of metallic blue bodes confronts you, swarming over the tree like lice, razor sharp mandibles gouging into the wood. There's no sign of the Adept, but numerous webbed cocoons hang from the branches. As you watch, one spider robot in the branches pits its metallic webbing over a policeofficer, pulling them into the trees to hang with the other cocoons.

You can also see cocoons on the sides of buildings, although these look more like hemispheres of webbing, blinking red lights gleaming in holes shot through the webbing.

You also see a giant spidery figure, nearly two storeys tall scuttling behidn Akash'Flora. You see its abdomen pulse, greasy steel eggs dropping to the ground. Legs unfurl from the eggs, new spider-bots joining the horde swrming over the park, shaking the liquid off their limbs.

So, heroes, what are you all going to do?

The horde seems unusually resistant to Tachyon’s hypersonic assault, partly because there are so many, even she can’t strike them all effectively, partly because the people hanging in the trees force her to blunt her efforts for fear of harming the innocent civilians there. There is a -2 hinder on all attempts to overcome the horde while the civillians are webbed up, and the horde itself cannot be effectively attacked. There’s simply too many of them and replacements keep swarming out from the giant robot and the sewers as fast as you can deal with them. Taking in the entire scene, Vance focuses in on what needs handling: First Priority: Hostages? Frost and Legacy are on it. Second Priority: Giant Egg-Layer? Unity and Wraith are prepping. Third Priority: Spider-bot hoard? Growing to a point the Doc can't handle all of them, and they're encroaching on rescue efforts. There's also those cocoons that seem to have taken sniper positions... And what happened to the Argent Adept in all this? Best way to take them down? Take out the Egg-Layer to stop the growing number of bots.

Then the snipers attacked.

[Armor Plating(+1) reduces attack down to 5. Current health: 22-5=17; Status; Yellow]

The laser fire is a bit too much for the armor plating of the Bunker suit, most of the blasts connecting and rattling the inner chamber of the cockpit. Display screens shift from green to yellow, showing the suit's current integrity. Automatic plate repositioning protocols activate in response, shielding poping out to cover more exposed areas and joints. The oncoming flood of Spider-Bot webbing does gum up the suit's legs, but the bots' attacks fail to cause any damage, their bladed legs merely scraping against a harder metal.

[Armor Plating(+2) reduces attack down to 0. Current health: 17]

"I'll see about taking out those snipers," Vance calls into the com-links. "We don't want them taking pot-shots at us!" Typing up a sequence of numbers in a near-by keypad, a magnet icon flashes to life on the Bunker suit hub. "Just let me bring out one of my toys."

[MagnaRail Upgrade roll: Riot Cannon= 9, Ranged Combat= 8, Status= 4; Mid+Min-1= 8+4-1= 11]

A port slides open on the inner forearm of the Bunker suit(which was slightly gummed up by Spider-Bot webbing), a small device sliding to and then attatching to the front end of the Riot Cannon. The device releases several discharges of blue sparks, then opens and widens out to cover all three barrels of the cannon, converging them into one.

[Naming this boost; Focused Riot Barrel, +3 persistant and exclusive Boost to Riot Cannon Ranged Attacks!]

"Just give me a chance to line up a shot. Oh, and keep an eye out for the Adept!"

(Round 2. Unity at 18 HP with a -1 Hinder.)

The Wraith looks up from her work to see her intended target being "menaced" by a gibbering robotic simian smaller than its toenail. "Um, Unity? Why did you make a monkey?"

"Well, duh! It's a spider monkey! You know, to eat spiders!"

"ActuallyUnity theatelesgenus isnamedfortheir longprehensiletails whichmakesthemlook--"

"Blah, blah, blah, not your intern anymore, SUPER MONKEY BOT GO!" With a screech, the monkey jumps on the colossal machine's back and begins leaping around and being generally distracting. It's actually pretty effective at this. (4=-2)

"Yeah, whoo! Take this!" Unity follows the monkey's assault with electricity from her hands, striking the mothership and one of the small spiders. (Electricity 3, Technology 6, Status 4-1=3. Saves 1-2=-1 and 3.) Both spiders begin to smoke and slow down a little. A stray arc of lightning strikes the ground in front of The Wraith, raising up a cloud of dust--a useful cover to hide in or strike out of with the element of surprise.

(Summary: Mothership reduced to d8. One minion in the group it just created is reduced to d4. Wraith has a Dust Screen +2 boost to apply to an attack or something defensive.)

To be swiftly struck by webbing gumming up the movement servos allowing for another spider bot to get his coolant feed. Realising things are rapidly going to spiral out of control if he doesn't act fast Ryan runs into the middle of the melee and shuts down the feedback limiters on his suit rapidly dropping the temperature hoping Tachyons new costumes thermal weaves would work whilst helping him recover.

"I think it's time we take some time to cool off and slow this fight right down"

(Risky Subzero Atmosphere: Hinder with max damage AZ with min cold 9,2 All enemies bots near me hindered by -3, AZ healed by 3, The minor twist advances the scene tracker by 1)

With an audible snap, the temperature around Akash'Flora drops and ice instantly forms over the optical sensors and motion servoes of the spider bots whilst Ryan stands a little taller in this fight given things are operating at much closer to his temperature now.

Meanwhile, a river of ice shoots up the side of Akash'flora weakening the bark and allowing the spider bit horde better purchase and access to the tree.

AZ's com would chirp to life, "Good work slowing them down, Frost. Think you can keep crowd control up long enough for Wraith and Unity to take down Mama Spider?"

Once all the connections are set and targeting systems recalibrate for the new upgrade, Vance takes aim at the first sniper...

[Riot Cannon attack roll: Riot Cannon= 1, Ranged Combat= 3, Status= 4; Mid= 3+3=6]

The Riot Cannon thrums to life, the new barrel condensing all the energy into a single point before letting loose a white-hot blast dead center of one of the sniper cocoons.

[D6 Spider-Bot Sniper defense roll= 3+2= 5; Failure]

The energy blast lances through the cocoon, causing a small explosion within the shell. "That's one," Vance gets the other sniper in his sights. He can't help but smile at how well the new MagnaRail system was working. "Try to keep your heads down until I take down the other, team."

The giant spider scuttles away, Unity's mnkey bot screeching on its back. It stops, laying another set of eggs to join the horde. Three climb up the spider's back, lunging for the monkey (Attacks: 3, 1, 4) tearing it apart with their mandibles.

The horde burrows in, using the frost damaged bark as an entry point. The scene tracker advances again but is still in yellow.

The snipers (all d6) re-aim  and fire. Three fire at Bunker (rolling: 3, 3, 2 for 3, 3 and 2 damage) and two at Legacy (Rolling 2, 3 for 2 and3 damage and proof my dice hate me)

Meanwhile, the spider bots clamber over the remains of their fellows from Tachyon's hypersonic assault, all at d4 from the damage and hindered by the ice sheathing them. One stumbles as Tachyon races away for her next target, mandibles clacking behind her (Roll 1, hinder 3 so no damage). The same applies to Unirty (Damage 3, hinder 3, 0 damage), but one manages to catch AZ (Damage 4, hinder 3 net damage 1)

One steps (d6) between Legacy and the teenager spitting webbing at him (Hinder 4-hinder 3=Hinder 1 net). #2Oh, God! I can't hold on!!!" she screams ad she slips on the ice.

The one fighting Bunker (d6) continues to worry at his leg dealing (2 Hinder 3, for 0 damage) as it fails urtterly to break through his armour.

[Armor Plating(+2) reduces attacks down to 1, 1, 0, and 0. Current health: 17-2=15]

The new plating manages to work wonders, the majority of the attacking onslaught negated easily, merely resulting in some surface level scorch marks.

"Noo!  Super monkey bot!  You sparking spiders!"

Lightning again flares angrily from Unity's hands (Brainstorm: Electricity 4, Technology 4, Yellow 2), arcing squarely into the giant spider's flank.  There's a small explosion and the massive machine lurches heavily to one side, crushing one of the smaller spiders in its wake (saves: 3 and 1, lucky!).

Legacy, unable to act as he is, gets a fine view of the fireworks and a warm feeling spreads through his heart.  Here was his little intern, a full-fledged hero in her own right, kicking butt and taking names.  He'd been worried about her striking out on her own--in charge of her own team, no less--but moments like these reminded him she was fully capable of functioning without the Freedom Five to hide behind.  But meanwhile, he still has a job to do, and another young woman needs his help!  He bursts free of the remaining webs, brimming with heroic inspiration and determined to make a difference while he's still in his prime.

(Results: Spider Mothership is reduced to a d4.  One of the d6 minions is destroyed.  Legacy has an "Inspired Mentor +2" bonus to apply to something heroic.)

[Legacy: Yellow Zone, 24/32 HP. In front of Akash'Flora: Main]

"Ugh. Well that didn't work," Legacy griped as he ripped off the webs while trying to deal with both the bot and the teenager. Then he saw the fireworks.  Not exactly the fireworks you might pull out on the 4th of July, but Legacy saw the mothership take a hit and knew exactly who had done it. He smiled as he thought of how much Devra had grown since she had started out as Meredith's apprentice. (Next part stolen from Mind Wanderer) He'd been worried about her striking out her own--in charge of her own team, no less--but moments like these reminded him she was fully capable of functioning without the Freedom Five to hide behind. But meanwhile, he has a job to do, and another young woman needs his help! (Done) He wondered how he could get rid of the bot while saving the teenager, and came up with an idea.

[Principle of the Hero: Overcome to save teenager. (Risky Action: Also hurt spider-bot with Min die) Roll Strength (10), America's Finest (8), and Yellow (8)

Result: 7, 3, 4. I am boosted by 2. (Love you Unity.) Max=7(+2)=9. Action succeds completely. Also my spider-bot is reduced to a d4 (My roll of 3 vs the bot's 4]

Legacy would pull the teenager up and away from the edge succesfully.,using his other hand to throw the spider bot down where the girl would've fallen. The spider bot is severly hurt by this, but not quite dead. "Ha! That was great. Please be more careful on this ice, miss."  In doing this, however, Legacy attracted the attention of another d4 bot. "These things keep coming out of the woodwork, don't they? Now I'll have to deal with this one as well as finish up that other one."

The Wraith spots some blood spots near the tree. Scouting around she spots the Argent Adept mostly buried under a toppled wall near to the edge of the tree. He doesn't seem conscious and looks pale, his breathing shallow, blood running from his forehead and neck, one arm bent oddly.

As the Wraith gets closer, one of the spider-bots nearby notices her, its mandables clacking closed on her arm, tearing through her skin for 5 damage. (Twist: Damage: Max die: 5).

The Spider-Bot that survived the Tachyon's onslaught reaches feebly at her, catching her a glancing blow as she races past (1 damage).

Against Legacy, the two bots close around him, rushing from both sides. as Legacy, moves the teenager away from the bot's gleaming mandables one manages to grip him across his chest, digging into his skin while the other bounces off. (Damage 4 and 1, reduced to 3 and 0 by Fortitude).

Against Bunker, the bot takes a big chunk out of his leg, damage 5 reduced by 1 by his armour to 4.

The snipers also continue to open up dealing 3 to Unity, 5 to Absolute Zero, 6 to the Wraith, 6 to legacy (5 with Fortitude) and 4 to Bunker.

Despite the loss of the large spider-bot, the horde of bots continues to swarm the tree, tearing into it.

(Unity: 15 HP, Yellow.)

"Nice work, doc!  Now things can't get any worse... I think."  Unity looked around the battlefield, trying to figure out what she could do to help.  Anthony looked in bad shape, but he needed first aid, and Unity was only good at fixing up the mechanical sort of people.  And she didn't have the firepower to clear the tree of its horde of spiders, or the endurance (or, frankly, the bravery) to go toe-to-toe with the snipers, or the speed to flank them.  But what Unity can't do, she can make bots to do instead!

"First things first: keep my friend alive."  Unity made a two-handed gesture, and pink electricity shot from the tip into the fallen fragments of the fallen spider-bots, causing them to assemble themselves into two new machines.{1}  The first appeared standing on a ruined wall on the far side of the clearing, and looked like a diminutive copy of the Argent Adept himself, complete with pipes and cape (though it did have far too many eyes).  It held its pipes up to its "mouth" and trilled a simple square wave, shooting a blast of fire into the sniper nest.  "Let's hope they chew on Tune-Bot there instead of the real deal."

The second, an insectile robot bristling with various medical tools, appeared next to Argent Adept and the Wraith, ready to assist in getting the fallen bard back on his feet.

{1} Hardly the first time she's had to split her focus like this--that would have been in Freedom Five Annual #12, compiled in "Unity - Science & Progress."

(Construction Pylon, invoking her collection to avoid the minor twist that using a Red ability while in the Yellow would normally cause.  Robotics 5, Former Intern 2, Yellow 2, bleargh.  Med-Bot is a d6 boost bot.  Tune-Bot is a d8 boost bot with the Reinforced feature (+1 to minion saves), discarding the unused Dust Screen +2 bonus.  Destroying this bonus triggers Volatile Parts: Robotics 8 (yay!) vs. minion save 6 + 2 (boo!), one sniper is reduced to a d4.)

Amidst the smoke and shrapnel flying from Bunker's assault on the snpers, laser light flashes as the two remaining snipers fire at Bunker. One laser ineffectually scores across his armoured chest, while the other goes wild from the ice defracting its beam, scattering into dozens of laser pointers over the Bunker suit.

"All those spiders sure do work well together.  Better than us today, anyway."  Unity looks over at Med-Bot, which looks forlorn and spins its first-aid implements uselessly, then over at Tune-Bot, which continues to caper with its pipes to draw the fire of snipers that have already been reduced to scrap.

[Legacy: Montage Scene]

Legacy prepared to wind up and give the robots what-for, but they staggered drunkenly into the mob. Apparently either Dr. Stintson-no, she was helping Anthony, okay then, Devra had been able to singlehandedly shut down the robot horde. That girl had grown so much. Anyway, Legacy figured it was about time to get himself bandaged up, he had taken quite a beating in that fight. He headed to the nearest RevoCorp center to heal.

"Woohoo!  Nice shot, Tyler!  Lookit 'em go!"  Unity surveys the robotic carnage and the drunkenly reeling survivors.  "Hmm... maybe you did a little too good a job.  Be nice if we could figure out where the big one was getting its orders from.  There's gotta be something left...." She lets her bots fall to pieces and sits cross-legged in the middle of the wreckage, grabbing chunks of metal with her mental powers, dragging them in front of her for inspection, and sorting them into piles for further study, paying close attention to anything that might tell the team more about the spiders' origins.  And maybe, she considers as an afterthought, something that she might do something useful with for her new bosses at Revocorp....

While she works, she activates her comms.  "Tachy?  How's Double-A holding up?  He gonna be OK?"

Unity finds that the robots are all well-built, highly advanced, even for a world with Omnitron, and clearly amphibious.

As Tachyon is going mad with boredom as the Doctors insist on treating her below supersonic speeds, the Argent Adept recovers consciousness.

"My friend, thank you for rescuing me. How fares the tree?"

After being reassured it survives, although may be a littl pruned, he sinks back into the pillows, "That is well. When the spiders astruck, I was investigating powerful surges of energy within it's heart. But that is something we can discuss later when we have more time to deal with the issue properly, I have need of your aid again. While I was down, I had a vision, a telepathic call for help from our friend Vanessa, pleading for help from across the Void." he looks down at the bandages wrapping his chest, "I am hardly in a position to aid her myself. And since the Wardens separated I cannot even ask my comrades to help. A rift has opened in the Void, near her childhood home in Ravenwood. Can you help her? If the rift opens, it could unleash the Void into the heart of this world. I will continue my investigations into Akash'Flora once I am able to leave."

With help from Tachyon over the comms, Unity recognises two primary design principles seem to be an unholy blend of Omnitron's logical, machine designed and Baron Blade's mad leaps of genius. On the other hand, she does identify that this is made of components and elements from this solar system without extraterrestial involvement, which given K.N.Y.F.E.'s still in space and Captain Cosmic hasn't been seen since the OblivAeon event is probably just as well.

Issue #2: Freedom Five #802: Void If Broken

The Freedom Jet glides smoothly through the skies ove Rook City, past that particular toxic presence on the landscape and towards the snall town of Ravenswood, home of Vanessa Long, the Visionary and Muse. Piercing the clouds, it doesn't look like there's much trouble, certainly not compared to Megalopolis' damaged streets. Main street looks calm and unbothered, the neat rows of suburban homes peaceful. The police frequency shows nothing more than traffic violations disturbing the scene.

Then you all feel a presence in your mind, seeing a familiar angular face, her forehead beasded with sweat. "Hurry." the voice gasps in your minds, "The demons are closing in. I cannot hold them much longer." You get a high level map view of the town, one house on Kirby highlighted in red. Apparently the police don't know everything.

You land the jet in the middle of the quiet street. Children in the gardens behind the picket fences stop playing to stare as you emerge.

"Hey! Look, it's the Freedom Five! What are they doing in Ravenswood?" You can identify the house highlighted on your mental map, but it doesn't look different. It does look a little too small to fit the Bunker suit inside. At least not without removing large portions of the front wall.

"Hurry. They're breaking through." echoes through your minds.

Over to you heroes.

Unity, with her lack of experience working as a team compared to the Freedom Five, leaps straight into action without discussion.

"Don't want to mess up this pretty little neighborhood... I think I have something useful in here."  Unity telekinetically reaches into a storage locker on the Freedom Jet for some scrap metal.

"Let's see... something that won't cause alarm.  How about this?"  (Robotics 7, Creativity 9, Green 1 = a d8 Attack bot.)

A hobbit-sized humanoid emerges from the jet, dressed in a neatly-pressed metal uniform and a jaunty metal cap, carrying a small rack of sealed metal vials.  It marches up to the front door, knocks, and announces in a loud, piping voice, "Hello, residents.  I am the milk-bot.  I have come to deliver the milk."

Firing up the scanners. Infrared reveals 5sources of heat, four slightly fuzzy  but the fifth is clearly humanoid and moving. Audio picks up some snarls and hisses with an odd echo to them, like they’re in a bigger room than could reasonably fit in that house.

You detect intense psionic energies around each of the sources of warmth, especially around the active one, which seems to be the source.

Thereks also a dozen sources of unknown energy around the various psionic hot spots, one near the moving hot spot much more powerful, which also seems to be where the psionic energy is most concentrated.

You all feel a telepathic message echo in yuor heads “Thanks god you’re here. Take out the illusory demons so I can keep the family safe and close down this portal. I don’t have the power to do all three at once. And if you could avoid damaging the house, that would be great.”

Without waiting for a response from his teammates Absolute Zero heads on out to the house opening the front door side-stepping around milk bot to see the mess that is inside.

"Sorry Milk Bot we may need a bit more than your vials in here "

(Plan is to use the principle of Cold to block of hallways and doorways that the bad guys are not in so we can funnel them out of the house but that will change depending on what is actually going on inside)

Vance strokes his chin as he considers the plan, the main cockpit of the Bunker suit open so he can talk to his team face-to-face. "I suppose hearding them out to me is for the best right now. It's not like I can walk this rig through the front door... But if things go south in there just gimme a call and I'll come running, suit or not."

With that last word the hatch closes, and the Bunker suit moves into position. Not wanting to cause property damage, or worse hit someone in the house, it gets into position along the front wall of the building, hunkering down to avoid windows. This way he is hidden and has a clean shot at whatever may exit through the front door. "In position, ready when you are."

As the door swings open, you hear a hissing coming from several of the rooms. Large red eyes peer out of the doorways. Some scuttle forth, looking like someone crossed a portal fiend with a crocodile and then painted them purple. (No, Guise is not involved this time but that shade). Thery open their mouths in a shriek charging down the hallway towards you, more pouring out of the rooms to follow. But only so many can fit in the narrow room. Their drool spatters the carpet, jaws ringed with sharp teeth.

The first one to reach you leaps on Milk Bot. dealing 5 damage as its claws tear at his metal frame and teeth scoring across his face. Another leaps over at Absolute Zero, landing on him in a flurry of six clawed legs and a spike filled tail (4 damage). The remaining two crash into Legacy, one leaping high into his chest, the other crashing agaisnt his legs for 5 and 2 respectively (Before modifiers).

Two stop, sniffing the smoke from the remains. They keep sniffing with their elongated snouts, before turning towards Bunker and charging, claws and teeth raking at the Bunker suit (3 and 4 damage).

One pauses in chasing Tachyon to leer at Unity and pounce. Fortunately she notices and sidesteps only taking a slight cut through her thigh as it tears at the earth besides her. (1 damage)

You step through the portal and into the Void. A purple sky flashes with incandescent lightning overhead, the black rock under your feet crumbling with each step, the shards spiralling down, only to arc up into the air, foriming a halo of black stone chips around the winding stone bridge.

As you advance cautiously some of the chips cackle and leap from the halo, sprouting bat-like wings and tiny claws, flitting around Unity, tugging at her hair. (Environment Effect: Hinder using Min dice: 0, 2, 6. Hinder -1 to Unity's next action)

A shadowy figure appears on the bridge, almost growing out of the stone. It looks a lot like a stoney Bunker suit, purple light glinting in its optical sensors as it blocsk your path. It raises one gauntleted fist, the fingers folding inwards until a swordblade replaces the hand. It points this towards you in silent challenge.

"Ick, ick, ick!  Get 'em off me!" Unity slaps at her hair to try to get all the rock-bat-void things out, then sees the shadowy Bunker doppelganger.  She looks down at the crumbling ground of the bridge, then slides down off the Bunker suit with a sigh, the black gravel crunching beneath her feet but not giving way.

"You got this, Tyler!  Go get 'em!  I'll, er, be back here."  She plucks another winged rock out of her hair and takes a close look at it.  "Hmm... this gives me an idea."

Unity throws her arms wide.  Pink lightning shoots from her fingers into the stone of the bridge and the flying chips, and some of the pebbles begin to transform, growing wings of their own.  (Principle of Levity: Robotics 3, Banter 3, Green 8, -1 = 7, success with a minor twist)

Instead of being bat-like, however, these stone robots resemble black-and-pink flying monkeys, each only a few inches tall.  They scatter in all directions as Unity cackles with over-the-top glee.  "Fly!  Fly, my pretties!  Eh he he he!  Bring me the little girl!  Or whatever's after the little girl!  Or just, y' know, something interesting!  Eh he he... he?"

A bolt of lime-green energy, the exact color opposite of Unity's signature magenta, lances out of the darkness and disintegrates one of the monkeys as it starts to leave.  The source of the energy coalesces into a shadowy copy of Unity herself, floating on a rock that crackles with green lightning and looking very unhappy.

"Oops.  Not that little girl!  Keep going!  Try again!"

Dark Bunker strides forward, raising his arm blade. It plunges it deep into the Bunker suit’s chest cavity, narrowly avoiding Tyler Vance. (Aggressive mode. Damage +2, Save -2. Damage 8+2=10) It draws the sword out, raising it again, purple electricity crackling along the blade and arm, all accompanied by a familiar whine of servo motors.

[Tachyon: Green 27/27]

”SorryGuysIWasFinishingMySnack” Tachyon says as she sees Bunker get sliced into by a dark version of himself?  “I’mNotSureIFullyGraspWhatThisIsButYouNeedToLeaveHimAlone” Tachyon uses her Hypersonic Assault to hit Dark Bunker (Speed: 10 Finesse: 6 Status: 2). With this speedy attack Dark Bunker is taken back and vanishes (rolled a 3 for Defense and with a -2 results in a 1 which doesn’t beat a 2)

[Armor Plating +1 reduces attack down to 9. Current HP= 28-9= 19; Status: Yellow]

"SONOFA-!" Vance shouts, the obsidian-colored blade cutting through his armor and instruments like it was paper, missing his head by mere centimeters. His own massive metal hand pulling his doppelganger's wrist up and the blade out of his armor, a large caliber cannon pops out of the suit's shoulder as heavier armor plates slide into place. "My turn."

[Power Suit attack roll: Power Suit= 5, Ranged Combat= 7, Status= 7; Mid=7]

[Dark Bunker(D10) defence roll= 5-2= 3; Failure]

Leaving itself open to attack, the stoney Bunker takes the large caliber round squarely to it's chest, crumbling into so much gravel as the shell blasts into its chest and out its back.

[End of Round 1]

((Edit: Fixing the math for DB's save. 5-2 does NOT equal 7, it seems.))

Round 2:

Unity's winged monkeys fly back, screeching and chittering, tugging urgently on her arm, pointing towards something off in the distacne to the left, well off the narrow pass. In the distance a city rises from the depths, purple water draining over the side as it flies higher and higher.

A hum passes through the air. You can fell the oneness of the universe, the numinosity of the moemnt bringing you closer to your teammates, helpoing you act as one team (Boosts to help an ally gain +1 to the roll).

A blur of motion races along the bridge, purple light glinting off her goggels, purple energy crackling around her as she barrels into you all.

[Passing to the Dark Tachyon turn]

Tachyon batters Unity aside, knocking her towards the edge of the bridge (Hinder. 2 on the die, so -1) before she pummels Absolute Zero's chestm, tearing at the coolant piping with her bare hands (Damage, 2). As she moves away, the lightning flares, her figure appearing more emaciated as it clears.

[Still to act: Bunker, Tachyon, Unity and Ansolute Zero)

"Whoooah!  Not falling, not falling, not falling!"  Unity pinwheels her arms and narrowly averts a fall.

"Is that the best you can do, Void?  Huh?  Huh?  How about some of this?"  A pulse of pink light envelops Tachyon's feet, and her sneakers transform.  It's a subtle change, but tiny powered actuators put an extra spring in her step.

[Hasty Augmentation: Metal 10, Technology 1, Green 2, -1, +1.  I'm unclear on whether you have to declare what die you're using before rolling, so I'll be honest and stick with the mid die I was planning on, result of 2.  Tachyon gets a Springy Steps +1 persistent bonus (non-exclusive) to use on anything that involves movement.]

[Round 2, remaining: Bunker, Tachyon, Absolute Zero.]

"Oh, there is another one. And she bites. Well, let's see if we can't slow her down."

A beam of cold energy arcs towards Dark Tachyon as she gets ready for another pass at the Freedom 5

(Freezer Burn2,1 vs 2 So she becomes a d4 minion and AZ heals 1 HP)

The energy only manages to wing the evil speedster of the void leaving her right arm encased in a layer of ice. Meanwhile, the holes she made in Absolute Zero's suit have slowly begun to frost over.

[End of Turn: AZ HP -19, Still to act Bunker, Tachyon,]

[Tachyon: Green 27/27]

”Let me scan this clone of mine before you take it out and knowing it’s Energy I can track the larger source”.  Using Principle of Science Tachyon has made a Void energy tracker to try to track the source and points it at her Dark self (Inventions: 5 Science: 1 Status: 4).  This succeeds with a minor twist and the heroes get a hero point.

Bunker goes into defensive mode, using his military experience to set himself on guard. (Veteran, Power Suit Status, 1, 7, 4) for defend 4.

The Void energies seem to arc from Dark Tachyon to the transmitter, energisiing her e(restore DT to a d6 minion). The tracker pings wildiy before pointing towards the distant city as it shimmers, a purple crystal glinting at its hert,. And then the city and crystal are gone, an inverted step pyramid appearing in their place.

Round 3 (Status still green): As you turn to deal with Dark Tachyon, a shadow falls briefly overhead as Dark Legacy drops onto the bridge, his eyes glowing with purple light (d10 minion).

Dark Tachyon races after the original, attempting to hinder her tracking device (Hinder: Roll 2) and then proceeds to punch her in the side as she grabs for the device (2 damage). Dark Tachyon reduced to d4.

“Huh. That’s a whole lot of void between us and there. And there’s not a lot to work with…” Unity looks around, seeing nothing but emptiness to any side, except the ziggurat in the distance. Finally she looks to the bridge under their feet. “Well, I guess there’s that.”

She gestures downward, and the entire section of the bridge is enveloped in pink light. It shudders, then detaches, growing a vaguely avian head, wings, and feet. With a hideous cry, it takes flight, making rapid pace toward the strange structure, with all the heroes and their doppelgangers on its back.

“Woohoo! That worked better than I hoped!” As she turns to grin at her friends, though, the bird’s eyes flicker purple, and the head stretches back and bites her, hard!

“Owwww! Leggo!” Surprisingly, it obeys and continues its flight as though uninterrupted.

“Right, ‘strong mind.’ I guess I have to keep my focus here. Ugh, lesson learned.”

(Principle of the Gearhead: Robotics 3, Creativity 1, Green 6. Pass with a minor twist, which is take 6 damage. Now at 20/26 (yellow).)

Reaction by Tachyon when Dark Tachyon makes her attack:

”AGoodScientistWouldKnowNotToDamageTheEquipment”. Tachyon uses Nimble strike hitting with Speed:3 which takes out Dark Tachyon

[Tachyon: Green 25/27]

”TheGoalIsInSiteLetsGoTeam”.  Tachyon uses Hypersonic Assault as she goes by Dark Legacy (Speed: 8 Finesse: 4 Status: 4).  Damage is a 2 after the hinder so Dark Legacy goes down to D8 after rolling a 5.   Dark Legacy has a -2 hinder.

[DM Intervention. Tachyin's strike on her Dark counterpart is intercepted by LEgacy, so Dark Tachyon is still around and Dark Legacy is down to d6]

Dark Tachyon races for Unity dealing her 3 damage and hindering -1 before she fades into the void energy.

EDIT: Owing to Tachyon’s ability hitting everyone, this does not happen.

Or rather, Tachyons reactive strike is still intercepted,  but her main hit still destroys her coutnerpart before it can harm Unity. So,  o Dark Tachyon, no damage or hinder to Unity and Dark Legacy is still down to d6.
